Owl Knight
Don't let it ruffle your feathers, my liege.
NAME ❧
Mordin Astor
AGE ❧
54
HEIGHT ❧
5' 10"
SKILLS ❧
Broadsword combat, hand to hand combat, wilderness skills
PHYSQUE ❧
Though age is beginning to take its toll on the veteran soldier, Mordin is, nonetheless, still a formidable warrior. His body is lean and tough, with old scars from battles in his youth. His hands though rough and calloused, are dexterous and can be surprisingly gentle. The feature most people note him for are his eyes, piercing and slate grey like the northern sky.
Though he has spent many years in the relatively comfortable position of a captain of the guard, he trains compulsively, knowing that he could easily grow soft in the confines of the castle.
BACKSTORY ❧
Mordin was born on a small farmstead in the north of Bremmerlund, where men worked the hard earth to scrape a living out of the land or worked their fingers raw in the dark of the King's iron mines. His father was a sharecropper on the land of the local Baron. At the age of fifteen Mordin and his father were conscripted into the army in a squabbling conflict with a neighboring Barony. When his father died in combat, Mordin knew that he could not spend the rest of his life scrabbling in the dirt, so he enlisted in the Baron's standing army. The army life was hard, but Mordin was adept on the battlefield, and it was a far sight better than an unceremonious slow death in the mines.
When Mordin was 21, he found himself in the Baron's personal regiment. When the Baron's horse was shot out from beneath him with an arrow, leaving the noble incapacitated, Mordin stood over the spot and fended off the enemy until the second regiment could make their way over the battlefield to encircle the Baron and get him out of danger. For his efforts, Mordin was honored with decorations of bravery and placed in the Baron's castle guard.
Mordin quickly rose through the ranks, until he was serving as a bodyguard to the Baron's family.
During this time, he often served as the personal guard for Elsa, the Baron's eldest daughter. When Elsa was married to the newly crowned King Alvar Wurnol, Mordin was sent with her to join the royal guard. Mordin always harbored a secret love for Elsa, and she often confided in him, though their connection never extended beyond the secret longing they never shared with the other.
Elsa's first son, Ethred, took after his father, he was not always allowed to spend time with his mother and he became just as cruel, abusive, and cunning as the wicked King. It was a great source of pain for Elsa, and for Mordin on her behalf that her son was pulled away from her.
When the Queen conceived a second child, she hoped and prayed for a girl, knowing the King would have little interest in a girl child. The Queen gave birth to a girl, but she only lived long enough to give the child a name. Mordin was devastated, but relived at least, that the child would be left to a wetnurse and tutors and largely be outside of the King's malign influence. Mordin swore an oath to protect the girl no matter the cost and to do what he could to see that she grew up into a mirror of her kind and beneficent mother.
