It goes like this,
The fourth,
The fifth,
A minor fall,
A major lift.
The baffled King composing hallelujah.

Once upon a time, there were two kingdoms that ruled the land of Iricion. They were called Aduvion of the East, and Isetora of the West. These kingdoms, while both ruled by humans, had never been on good terms. There was a long and conflicted tale between the two. One of treachery and murder, all over a battle that took place more than two hundred years ago. This is where it all began.

To shorten history, for your own sake, the Queen of Aduvion was assassinated in a raid of the palace. This destroyed the morale of the Aduvion people, and shaped them into the people that they were today-- heartless. Not in a brutish way, but in a withdrawn way. The Aduvion people are very poised, and intelligent. They carry themselves with such a conceited grace that no other can muster. They live under the grayest of clouds, and are the tallest, palest people you'd ever see. They'll either master you in a battle of wits or impale you with the sharpest, skinniest of rapiers.. and they won't miss your heart. The kingdom is now ruled by king Maldon and queen Juvia. They have two sons, whose names shall not be given.

The kingdom of Isetora, on the other hand, is quite the opposite of their withdrawn intellectual neighbors to the East. The only thing that they share is their pale skin. Their cultures, however, are completely different. The people of Isetora are usually very loud and boisterous, flourishing from their ability to speak their minds and rush into battle unafraid. As you walk through Isetora you will hear laughing and chatter from every direction, whether it be from the open woodland houses or the local tavern. Instead of rapiers, Isetorians commonly fight with spears and axes. While they couldn't recite facts about every type of bird in the forest, they could argue that the sky wasn't blue and convince you to believe them. They are ruled by king Mercutio and queen Ester. They have two daughters, whose names shall not be given.

Since the battle that killed the Aduvion queen, the two had been at war ever since. However, two hundred years was a long time to fight and maintain battles. Supplies were running low on both sides, and so was morale. Both kings were simply baffled. They knew that this fighting had to end, but neither wanted to but their pride aside and surrender. It was then that they realised, that for the first time in history, both kingdoms had children that were of age to marry. After a year of sending messengers back and forth, negotiating a peace treaty, it was decided-- the royal children would be married, and unite the two for good. It would be the last step of their peace process, and it would be irreversible.

We are the royal children, and this is our story.

Keller Sainsbury

Keller drummed his fingers against the warm wooden table to his side. This was taking quite a long time, and he was growing impatient. Surely these women had expected to one day be married off to some nobility, how was this any different? The longer they put this off, the more painfully awkward it would be. Festivities were being put together for them at this very second, where they would spend the evening looking nice to please the people. He himself found the whole thing to be excruciating, but gaining the approval of the Isetorian people was crucial.

He tugged at his formal coat absent-mindedly and adjusted his chestnut hair with a hand. When the princesses did eventually appear, the last thing he wanted was to look like he'd been drug along the ground by the horses the whole journey here.

The air was rather warm, and damp. It confused him greatly, as Aduvion air was thin and cool. Here he felt like it had just rained for an eternity and the water had nowhere to go, so it just lingered in the air. Even in the Isetorian palace's main study, he felt as if he were outside. It'd been over an hour now since he was sat down and told that the princess's would be joining him shortly. Shortly his arse.

His grey stare finally maneuvered from the panelled walls to his younger brother. Surely his sibling wasn't any happier about this. Keller only worried about how Lukas would fare as a king. He'd never really had the same involvement in politics, for he never expected to be put into this position. Ruling a foreign kingdom alone sounded like an especially daunting task-- at least he'd have a pretty wife.

"Make sure you pay close attention tonight, Lukas. Learning the social cues of these people will make very important information for you to know as their king." He said slowly, in the fatherly voice that he'd mastered after years upon years of listening to their father.

The fact that King Charles II had chosen to travel to Isetora the day after his sons was irritating to Keller. How gracious of their father to throw them into the lion's den without any real direction. The weddings were coming up quickly it seemed, with only days left of him being an unmarried man. Even the king was putting off speaking with the Isetorians, which was ridiculous at this point. He was the one who had agreed to the damn treaty, so the least he could do was be present.

Analeise Lockhart

Analeise stared at the stairwell in front of her, silver eyes blinking as they began to water. Crying would do nothing but make her look weak. Which made sense, because she felt weak. She refused to look the part, however. The last thing she wanted was for the enemy to exploit her weaknesses right off the bat- and that's what these men were. The enemy. Father could say whatever consolation phrases he wanted, but she would never see them as any more than what they were. Their men had slaughtered hers in battle for years before she was even born. What would stop them from slaughtering her, too?

It'd been over an hour now since they were informed that the princes had arrived. The study they'd been seated in was only just down the staircase before her, but she was having trouble convincing herself to go down it. After all, once they set eyes on her, it was too late to run back to her room. Which she would have already done, if it weren't for her sister. Analeise couldn't fathom how her older sibling could be so strong and collected. It was a miracle that Ana was even standing at this point. Since she'd woken that morning all she wanted to do was throw up. Or run away. Or sleep for the rest of eternity. Perhaps all three would be her best bet.

"Cory, can't you just marry both of them? I'm sure neither of them are hard on the eyes. You'd be just fine. How cool would it be to rule over two kingdoms? You'd go down in history as the first woman to have two husbands." She joked, looking to her older sibling with pleading eyes. While she'd only really muttered jokes about the situation, she hoped that the sincerity in her expression was enough to hint at how terrified she felt.

Ana knew that it was time to go in, however, and took a slow step forward. She held a tendril of platinum hair between her fingers, twisting it nervously between her pointer finger and thumb. The maids had taken twice as long getting the girls ready for today. This is how it usually was before formal events, however those events were never nearly as nerve wracking as this one was.

It seemed to take her years to descend the stairs, though only a minute had really passed. One small turn into the hallway, and there it was. The door that held her husband behind it. What an odd thought. With one last glance to her beloved sister, she reached out with a pale hand and turned the knob.

Her whole life, Corinne has been trained to one day be a ruler and she'd devoted her life to the people she was born to serve. Except now, in a tiny fraction of time, that'd been thrown out the window. She wasn't going to rule the people of her own kingdom, and the one part of her life that was still her own, her love and ability to marry was stripped away from her for the sake of her people. A few maids flurried around her as they picked out a more casual dress and did her hair and makeup, and once she was ready Corinne headed out to a room situated just a staircase away from where the princes would arrive and wait.

And now they'd been waiting for over an hour. But both Analeise and herself couldn't bring themselves to face their futures, which lie just through those doors. Cory acted more calmly on the outside than her sister, however. That was how Corinne had grown to be, collected, despite her circumstances. That was how a queen should act. Even if she was about to be married off to someone she doesn't love.

Corinne shook her head with a smile, "I don't think I'd be able to manage two men barking in my ear every minute. One is one too much. But hey, at least you've got the better end of the deal." she smiled, trying to reassure her sister despite how unsure she felt herself. "You get to stay here. I have to go rule a different kingdom." And whilst it saddened the female, Corinne knew it was a part of her duty.

With one last glance in the mirror at her presentation, including the simple grey dress chosen for the occasion, Corinne muttered to herself, "We can't have them wait any longer." and turned to see Analeise cautiously moving towards the door.

Corinne moved in between the door and her sister, giving her one last squeeze. "It'll be alright. I promise." Cory told her as she held Ana's shoulders, before spinning around and opening the looming wooden doors open herself. Her blue eyes immediately zoned in on the two men seated in the study, and she could only expect them to train in on herself as well. The girl was impressed, they certainly weren't the worst looking men she'd laid eyes on, and they definitely knew how to dress the part.

She paused for a moment at the top, before starting to move down the stairs with her sister, hopefully not far behind. Once at the bottom, Corinne curtsied in front of the men, "Princess Corinne Rosella Lockhart, eldest daughter in the royal family of Isetora. Pleased to meet you." she rose once her formal introduction was completed. "Sorry for the wait on our arrival."

Lukas had always been spared the training to grow up to be a ruler. He obviously got tid bits here and there, but nothing to make him ready. And so everything his brother had learned over a life time to be able to do was dumped on him in a matter of weeks when plans for the arranged marriage were finalized. He struggled, yet acted as if it were a breeze.

Luke could tell with just a few glances spared towards his older brother, that he had a much different outtake on the situation than Lukas' own. Despite how he would certainly act once the women came out, he was nervous. He was about to meet his future wife and the truth would finally settle in. He was going to be king of another kingdom. And it just had to be Isetora. Everything about this kingdom made him uncomfortable, because everything was almost the opposite to Aduvion. But each minute that passed due to waiting on the princesses, Lukas became more accustomed.

Almost every moment he wasn't spending on observing his brother or having his sharp blue eyes focused on the door knob above the stairs, Lukas was fidgeting. He was adjusting his clothes, running a hand through his hair, and attempting to ensure he looked his best. This was a formal occasion and he usually was able to be prepared, but today, he felt everything but prepared. The silence was allowing him to think, and upon realizing this, Lukas broke it as fast as possible. "I bet my princess will look better than yours. Maybe better looks is just something that just occurs in younger siblings." Luke shot a sideways glance to his brother with a smirk on his lips and shining in his eyes. At least sarcasm always had his back.

The most dreadful part of this day? The celebratory ball to take place in the evening. Lukas wasn't against parties, but from the few Isetorian people he'd interacted with already, he could tell their definition of party was completely different to the uptight Aduvion people. And he just knew he'd find many of the people distasteful to interact with, or even their outfit simply off putting. Of course, Lukas would put them in their place. Hopefully they enjoyed honesty, otherwise he wouldn't win them over to be approved as the future Isetorian king.

"Yeah, thanks Dad." Lukas cooed mockingly, as he could easily identify the similarities between Kel's voice and their own father's usual tone. "Just look at this place. It oozes Isetora. Guess I'll have to get used to architecture this... primitive." His eyes shot back up to the door knob, as he noticed some movement in his peripheral vision. He cocked an eyebrow as the first, dark-haired girl opened the door and descended.

Keller Sainsbury

Keller was surprised as his brother cut into the silence, turning his head to watch his younger sibling. One thing the man could agree with, was that the silence was unbearable. However, he knew they were both stuck in their thoughts over the matter. Hopefully Lukas was looking at this with a relatively similar outlook, and was mentally preparing himself to stay in this place.

A low chuckle escaped him, and he reached over to give his brother a pat on the back. "I highly doubt it. Older means more mature, and I do mean physically of course." He said lightly, a hint of a smile remaining on his face. His brother was in fact the only person that he'd speak so vulgarly towards, or even willingly touch. Whether or not he was ready to admit it, he would miss Lukas's sarcasm and jokes when he took his bride back to Aduvion.

The brunette proceeded to shrug at Lukas's next quip, holding up a hand in surrender. "Fine, father I am then. Don't come crying to me when the Isetorian people plan your assassination." He joked, leaning back in his chair smugly. "Please just be on your best behavior today- and keep your hands to yourself."

Just as he finished that sentence, her heard the click of the doorknob being turned. His back instinctively straightened, and he put on his best poker face. Whatever happened next was only trivial, and he would try his best to remember that through the awkwardness.

The first dark-haired woman to enter looked just like you'd want a queen to look. Beautiful and fair, with a strong stare. She was clearly the oldest of the two, and Keller was more than pleased with her appearance. She was simply stunning, and he found himself glancing at his brother smugly before even studying his bride. As she introduced herself, he gave a small bow. Surely this Corinne was among the most beautiful women he had ever laid eyes on. Which was surprising, for he'd expected the girls in such a primitive country to look far less fragile.

"Prince Keller James Matthew Sainsbury, eldest son and heir of Aduvion." He said stiffly, studying his bride to be as he spoke. He'd hardly spared a glance at the youngest princess, and only fully looked at her when she began to introduce herself. Her words sounded like she was being forced to speak them with a dagger at her throat. She seemed like a good match for his brother already. He found it odd that the both of them were the blonde sibling as well. Perhaps even fate had a few cruel jokes up it's sleeve.

Once introductions had been made, Keller looked passed the princesses to spot the same man who had led them to this room. He assumed it was the king's assistant, as he held a piece of parchment strapped to a slab of wood. He was thin and short with greyed hair and a pair of reading glasses that made his eyes look like that of a fly. "I will escort you to the ballroom, your table is prepared." He said shortly, turning to the girls. "Your father would like me to inform you that he will join you later. You are to remain in the ballroom and get to know your escorts for the time being." He instructed, as if reading a set of instructions from his parchment.

As everyone began to file from the room into the wide palace hallways, Keller fell in step beside his fiance. As they walked, he stared forward almost menacingly. This was the part he was worst at. What was he supposed to say?

♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕
Analeise Lockhart

Analeise released a breath of laughter at her sister's response, watching her older sibling fondly. "You're right, I suppose a queen needs at least one free ear." She said lightly, her nerves relaxing a little. If only her sister didn't have to go to Aduvion. If Corinne was still around, perhaps Analeise would be able to deal with this. That wasn't the case though. Her sister had her own responsibilities, and it was immature of Ana to hope that she would give them up for her sake. Not that her sister had any more choice in the matter.

"It's amazing that I will stay here, I know, but I'll miss you." She said, frowning. Her pout only lasted a moment though, before she pulled herself together again. It was time to stop acting like a child. After all, this wasn't about her. It was about her country and her people. If more lives would be spared for this, then Analeise would go through with anything. That was the true duty of a princess, to put her people first. Her father was right when he said that it was time for the bloodshed to stop.

Receiving
one last squeeze from her sister, Ana pulled all the strength from it that she could. It was time to be a grown up. For now, anyways. Following slowly after her sister, she stepped into the study. She resisted the urge to lower her head and instead clenched a fist behind her back. Her eyes wandered to the two seated men as they arose from their chairs. She had time to study them while Cory introduced herself.

They were both very attractive, as she had guessed. Perhaps even more so. The two were definitely related, though they also shared quite a bit of differences. They were both intimidatingly tall, so she had to look up slightly to really study their faces. Before she could make a guess on which she would be marrying, the brunette began to introduce himself as the oldest.

This automatically sent her stare to the lighter-haired one, who did seem younger now that she really looked. He had a more boyish appearance, rather than the stiff expression that his brother held. Definitely attractive, though exotic looking compared to the men in Isetora. It was probably his light colored hair that made her think so. She avoided meeting eyes with him at all costs. After getting the look at him that she wanted, she set her eyes on the far wall of the study.

"Princess Analeise Elizabeta Lockhart, youngest daughter in the royal family of Isetora." She said slowly, copying her sister's words. She paused for a moment, giving her sister a side glance before begrudgingly adding, "Nice to meet you." Oh how badly she wanted to roll her eyes right now. She resisted the urge.

It was then her fiance's turn to introduce himself, in which she watched him do so with a small set frown. She looked him up and down once more, before turning at the sound of Friedrich, her father's advisor. He rambled his instructions, as she was accustomed to. "Yes, thank you Friedrich. Show us the way." She said, following the short man. She already knew where the ballroom was, but she would humor him anyways.

Corinne laughed lightly along with her beloved sister, knowing she'd be spending less time with her when she moved to Aduvion. She had to enjoy what she could get, and more importantly, ensure her Ana was as happy as possible. Cory wouldn't be able to leave if she didn't know Analeise was at least stable in some sense. "I'll miss you too, Ana." Corinne smiled warmly, attempting to make things as positive as possible.

To her relief, Analeise was indeed following her, and Corinne's final hug seemed to have settled her nerves a little bit. Cory flashed a small grin to her sister, since she'd managed to make it past the introduction. Even though it took copying Corinne exactly, she preferred that over her sister making a fool out of herself. But Analeise had managed to sound as if she was having the worst time of her life. Which was possible. But it made Corinne have a feeling of guilt settle in her stomach that she couldn't make any of this better. It was just how it is.

Keller, she repeated in her head. There was no way on earth she was allowed to forget that. Upon further inspection, Corinne couldn't help but let a small smile play on her lips. Both princes were certainly handsome in their own rights, but Keller was tall, he looked well-built and his features simply played together to make an appearance fit for a king, and possibly fit for her husband. But to her, what really mattered was what sort of man he is. Her attention was quickly directed to Friedrich, her father's assistant, who's monotone voice and slavery-like dedication to the king had always frazzled her. Did the man not have emotions? Let alone a mind of his own? She threw the thought away, knowing it wasn't fair to judge him when, despite him being by her side whilst growing up, she knew hardly anything of him. They all began to follow the short man, due to Analeise's orders that seemed to only be trying to scrape some humor from Friedrich.

Corinne was slightly startled at the eldest prince - Keller, she reminded herself - fell back in line with her and she noticed he was rigid. She'd expected him to strike up a conversation due to his clear effort put into reaching her. He didn't even mumble a word. So instead Corinne took the lead. "What is Aduvion like? I've only ever gotten information from spiteful men in the war." she shook her head in disapproval at the impossibly long years of warfare, "It'd be nice to know what sort of kingdom I will actually be leading." Corinne held out her arm, inviting Keller to latch onto it. "We might as well look as if we're a couple." she said, dread slightly hidden in her tone.

The study wasn't too far away from the ballroom, and from the many people bustling around the two couples in the hallway, it was being repurposed as a sign in area for the guests. Not everyone was happy with the uniting of Aduvion and Isetora, and the event had to go smoothly - which included keeping those people out. Everything had to seem as if it were under control. Friedrich and the newly acquainted couples soon reached the tall doors, which were delicately engraved with patterns, simply to accentuate the importance of the room. "Thank you, Friedrich. Now, if there is nothing else, you are dismissed."

He bowed, "That is all for now, Your Highness." and she gave him a nod as he rose, and as he walked away, she took a few steps forward, pushing the heavy doors open. Corinne immediately entered, and her eyes scanned around the extravagantly done up room. One section was prepared for dancing, and the other had tables laid out for chatter and eating. She found the royals table, which was obvious due to its gold trimming, and went to settle on it.

He was glad Kel responded, it meant he could try clear his mind. Because if Lukas had to be honest, Keller was the one person who he could calm down with. He supposed that was just part of sibling nature. And Lukas was afraid he’d lose that, perhaps forever. But he realised that’s what was needed of a true leader – sacrifice. And that’s exactly what Keller had been doing his whole life, so obviously Lukas could do it better.

Lukas scoffed, though it was playful in intent, "Mature? Please, that's basically a synonym of 'no fun'." A smirk, which seemed permanent for the boy, was paired with a menacing sideways look. "Now, now, let's not jump to... unlikely conclusions. I'd assassinate anyone before they got to me or my wife, obviously." he replied, smug and added, "Oh, are you a little jealous of where my hands might be going tonight?" before falling silent at the two girls coming down the stairs. He did look at the oldest, but his blue eyes mainly studied the younger blonde princess. And she was beautiful. He does prefer himself brunettes, but blonde definitely came in a close second. She was lithe, which appealed to him. It meant he looked stronger and more powerful whenever she was by his side as well. Lukas shot a glance towards his brother, noticing he was doing the same inspection of his own to-be bride. It seemed they were both happy with the appearance of them.

He raised an eyebrow at the younger girl, as he could easily see her inspecting him, however not meeting his eyes. What was so wrong with him? Back home, every lady couldn't feast their eyes on him enough. "Prince Lukas William Augustus Sainsbury, youngest son of Aduvion's royal family." he said, almost mocking the girls for the carbon copy introductions. He bowed to Analeise, "I know it's nice to meet me." And upon rising, he offered his arm for her to grasp onto.

They began walking down the hallway, and Lukas continued to survey the rooms and areas and try to commit them to memory. Whilst he can make a joke out of almost anything, he preferred against making jokes about himself. And he had an inkling of a feeling that he’d have to do that if he got lost in his new kingdom. But he certainly didn’t want this assistant helping him out.

Friedrich was incredibly boring. And there was no way Lukas would be able to survive a week with him by his side, all the time. His first order as a king would be to change his assistant. It seemed Analeise was glad to humor him, but Lukas would prefer someone to create humor with, not just laugh at. “Don’t you get, I don’t know, bored of this guy?” Lukas leaned in to Ana, whispering in her ear to be sure that the assistant wouldn’t hear. He followed in after Corinne, hopefully with his fiance by his side and sat opposite the darker haired princess. Lukas looked over his shoulder and tapped the seat beside him, inviting Analeise to sit. He took the spare moment to take in the ballroom, which was beautifully decorated with many fine details, the idea and designs were certainly growing on the young man. But it was still alien like compared to Aduvion.

Keller Sainsbury

Keller blinked in surprise as Corinne spoke first, and it took him a moment to reply. Perhaps his silence had been more awkward than it was comforting. Whatever the case, he was thankful for the small conversation that she made. Not to mention that he enjoyed her voice, it wasn't nearly as cold and edgy as the voices he was used to hearing. However, he hesitated further as she mentioned leading Aduvion. She didn't really expect to lead his country, did she? It was unheard of really.

His eyes trailed down to her extended arm, and he dutifully slipped his own through hers. She was right about that part, they needed to look the part of their engagement. If they looked unwilling, the people would be more skeptical than they already were.

"War does tend to make a man spiteful." He said finally, giving her a side glance. Much as he hated to admit, what he'd seen of Isetora so far was beautiful. Not nearly as primitive as he or his brother had expected. He was, however, glad that he'd be taking his bride back to the land that he was used to.

After a moment of thought, he continued, "Aduvion is much colder. Even during the summer months you will likely need to wear a light jacket. The air is also much thinner, which will take some getting used to. Besides that, I suppose everything will still be the same for the likes of a woman. You'll still have everything that gold can buy, not to mention a variety of maids and tailors. You won't need to concern yourself with much else- especially the welfare of the country. That will be left up to me."

He said this casually, studying the lavish ballroom as they entered. It was decorated beautifully, and the assortment of lights amazed him. He eyed the dance floor distastefully. At some point tonight he'd probably be expected to dance with Corinne. For now, however, the four of them would probably be using this time to get to know each other.

Keller nearly lunged forward to pull out Corinne's chair before she could seat herself. The last thing he wanted to do was appear rude. Once she had taken her seat, he occupied the chair next to her. The table itself was long and rectangular, with gold trimmings and intricate designs. It was clearly meant for them.

The dark-haired prince watched his brother sit and raised an eyebrow. The younger blonde princess seated herself in the corner of his eye, and he gave Lukas a pointed look. Of course his younger sibling had forgotten. That or he hadn't cared enough to pull out her chair, Keller couldn't decide which was more plausible. He didn't say anything, however, for he was still conversing with Corinne and didn't want to interrupt her.

♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕♕
Analeise Lockhart

A small scoff escaped Analeise. The first words spoken to her by Lukas had been rather obnoxious, and her irritation with him was probably becoming obvious already. Once he had made his first impression, she was no longer intimidated. Her eyes locked onto his for a moment before she rolled them and intertwined her own pale arm with his. This was already exasperating. However, she mentally admitted that his appearance made his obviously cocky attitude easier to deal with. Not that she'd treat him as such, seeing as he was probably used to that.

The blonde was relieved as they began walking. The sooner this evening was over, the sooner she could go to sleep. Wait, would she have to sleep next to her "fiance"? Surely father wouldn't make her do so. If she had it her way, they'd sleep in separate beds for all eternity.

Analeise didn't take much time to study the hallways, as she'd walked them for years. She did nod to many familiar faces that bustled through the hallways, smiling and waving to the nobility. She was quickly pulled from her actions as Lukas leaned down to whisper to her. She had to resist the urge to laugh, partially at what he said, and partially because being whispered to was a ticklish experience. She didn't give him the satisfaction, however, and pressed a frown.

"Friedrich is ancient," She started, giving the prince a quizzical look before she continued. "There was once a time when Friedrich would have to lead me by the hand through these hallways because I was too little to see through the people." A fond smile came to her face. "He looked the same as he does now, however. Which I find a little odd. Certainly not the funniest man I've ever spoken to, but he's served my family well." She finished with an indignant nod.

As they entered the ballroom, Analeise's eyes lit with excitement. Until she realised that this wasn't a normal family party of course. There would be no random dancing and face-stuffing tonight. There would however be awkward silences and the constant feeling of doom.

The blonde raised an eyebrow as Lukas sat, and begrudgingly sat in the seat that he'd motioned to. Sitting across from her sister and ah.. Keller? Yes, that's what it was. Sitting across from her sister and Keller was nice because she got a full view of the both of them. They did look good together, perhaps it was the close hair colors and greyish eyes. Keller seemed rather stiff though. Much more so than his brother. Perhaps she was actually the lucky one in this scenario.
