Ruby Carmichael is from District 1. She is sixteen years of age and is currently a high school student. Or at least, she was before she was reaped for the next Quarter Quell.

Ruby stands at around 5 feet and 3 inches tall with a slim frame. She doesn’t pack a lot of weight, partially due to inheriting her father’s fast metabolism, and partially due to not being as privileged as those from District 1. She has fair, almost pale skin, and light brown eyes that tend to appear almost like liquid gold when she’s outside in the day time. Ruby inherited the reddish shade of her mother’s hair, which ended up influencing Ruby’s name, at the time of her birth. Her hair is wavy, and reaches below her shoulders a bit.

Ruby’s story is something of a tragic tale. Her mother, Lily, had been a victor. When she was reaped for the games, she came back a winner and the District praised her and spoiled her with money and luxury. However, all Lily could think of were the many people she killed. PTSD haunted her, as did the ghosts of the dead. She found some semblance of peace when she met Ruby’s father, Eli, who was no victor but still came from a rather lavish family, considering District 1’s various occupations. The two fell in love quite quickly and gave birth to Ruby.

Ruby lived under their care for a while but when she turned eight, her father passed away in a terrible car accident, which sent her mother into a downward spiral. George was the only one who could keep Lily calm, keep her sane, and without him, her thoughts and the flashes of the past consumed her.

She tried to keep them at bay with morphling and other addictive drugs but when everything failed, Lily went a darker route: she ended her own life. If that wasn’t enough, ten-year-old Ruby had to come home from school to witness the scene herself.

Not long after that, Ruby was put into foster care, and she became a ward of the state. The foster house wasn’t nearly as luxurious as the houses of all the District 1 residents, but it was where Ruby spent her days for the next six years, feeling disconnected from the world due to her difference from everyone else. It’s not like District 1 had many orphans to begin with, so Ruby never had much company either.

Now, being reaped, things have taken a turn for the worse.
