Fantasy Tell Me the Tales of Old and Those of New

Carmen made her way through the halls of the castle, her lady-in-waiting hot on her heels as they headed back towards the chambers she shared with her husband. As hospitable as the Quinns had been, this wasn't home and she knew all that Aemond wanted to do now was get home. They'd been living in exile for almost a year and it had become tedious. She stepped foot into the room, smiling as she saw Aemond already by the window, "Edith you may leave us, I will call for you before dinner." She told her, waiting til she had left and then stepped over to him, slipping her arms around him tightly, "You smell of salt and dragon my love... I've missed it." He'd been gone a week, taking his dragon on assignments from the king to keep himself occupied.

Joseph sighed quietly, sitting by a tree in the gardens, trying desperately to focus on the papers in his hands but it was becoming difficult after so many hours. He'd heard the roar from the skies a couple of hours ago, signalling Aemond's return and despite getting on well with the foreign prince he was dreading the dinner to come tonight. His father had allowed Aemond in to the highest circles in their kingdom, giving him freedoms that Joe had only ever dreamt of with all the duty placed upon him and the latest, the one he was trying to concentrate on letters for was to find a wife and finally setle down before his father passed. So he would be ready to take on the throne immediately.

Aemond turned gently on his heel when he heard the door open. He gave a small smile before turning back towards the window and giving a small sigh "I've missed you too love." He said quietly before relaxing in her arms "I am ready to go home though...." he said softly as he turned to face her pressing his forehead to hers. The exile had been harsh, he was still very bitter about it and seeked revenge. Though he knew it would need to be low and slow, the king's health was on a rapid decline, everyone knew it. He had hoped to get in with him and Joseph, making allies of them and using their army to overthrow his brother in Westeros.

George, the advisor of the king made his way to the gardens to find Joseph. He'd known the young man since he was a child and liked to think they were somewhat close. He was doing everything he could to try and prepare Joseph for the throne, as well as getting a wife for him. He chuckled some seeing the concentrated face Joseph had on him when he finally found him. "Your face is going to stick like that if you keep it up." He laughed before sitting beside him "Have you thought of a woman yet from the lists?"

She smiled as she reached up slowly to pull the eyepatch off his head and let his hair fall loose. “There is a diner tonight…. For Joseph to find a wife.” She told him quietly. Their own marriage had been loveless in the beginning but as they had spent more time together and learnt each others ways they had become a stronger unit than most has expected. “Perhaps once he has taken over he could be persuaded to help you take back kings landing.” She suggested,

He glanced up and shrugged. “They are all the same with only the names changed. I refuse to believe that a fraction of these letters are honest… I was a second son. I was supposed to be able to choose freely who to marry. It is not my fault that my brother died hunting.l he muttered in annoyance, getting up to go start getting ready for the evening

Aemond sighed heavily and gave a small nod as he watched her "Possibly, but I have a feeling he is not as easily manipulated as his father." He murmured before kissimg her forehead gently. He had sworn to never love a woman, he had only cared about fear and power, but as he began to know Carmen, to figure out her ways, he realized that she had been thing he had been missing for years. He'd never expected to actually love her, but he wasn't upset about it either.

Max stood in the room at the inn they were staying in giving a small sigh. She wanted to look perfect for the dinner tonight, they had been invited last minute and she was excited to possibly see her old friend again. When she was a child, her father had worked closely with the King as one of his Lords. Though when a new land needed ruling, the King had sent them to take it, as a gift to her father. While he had been thrilled, she on the other hand, never truely forgave him for taking her away from home.

She frowned and reached up to grab his chin gently. “Then find a way to make him.” She muttered. Of all the ladies at court back home she was the one who had always been intrigued by aemond. Curious about the rumours surrounding him and when all the others had complained about him not being fixable she would just smile and remind them she didn’t want to fix him. She wanted to stand by his side and watch the world burn with him. If she’d been born a man she would be just as good a swordsman as he by now.

Her father came to collect her once it was time to leave, helping her into the carriage that would take them into the city by the castle, “I hear there is a dragon there now. Belonging to a Targaryen. I would like you to stay away from them tonight.” He told her. “It would not do you or I well to be mixing with them.” He warned her quietly but whatever else he was going to say died in his throat as they approached the gates and looked through the window seeing the giant creature stood behind the outer walls, keeping watch over the surrounding ocean.

Aemond smirked softly down at her and nodded some "But of course." He said a wild look flashing through his eye. He gave her a gentle kiss before pulling away some "Well go on then, get into your dresses. Let me show them that I have the most gorgeous woman in all the kingdoms." He murmured happily.

Max rolled her eyes a bit but nodded some "Yes father." She muttered before going wide eyed when she saw the Dragon behind the gates. They had no such creatures there and to say she was intrigued by it would be a lie, but she also knew of the Targaryens. While most women kept their nose out of politics or the conflicts between kingdoms, she found herself intrigued to learn it all. As they arrived at the front of the castle she got out thanking the guard who helped her down.

She smiled and let her hand linger on his face a moment longer before going to call for Edith, needing the help to pick something out to go with her jewels. All sapphire to match her husbands eye. “If you could have an outfit laid out for the morning before you go tonight that would be wonderful. I will be heading out early. We will be taking w ride on Vhagar.” She explained, finishing getting ready and went out to their living area of their chambers. “I am ready.”

Joseph had been for ready into his military best and was making his way down to the hall, bumping into his father on the way who was stood near a balcony “are you ready for the evening father?”

Stephen looked over at his son and nodded some "Yes, are you?" He asked frowning as he saw his son's displeased face "Joseph, a king needs his queen. You need a strong woman who will stand by your side, and keep you line." He said giving a small chuckle before breaking into a coughing fit "This dinner will help you find her from some of the most noble lines." He said once he gained his composure.

Aemond gave a small smile as Edith got her ready. He looked at Carmen in awe as she came out finally ready "You are such a sight." He said happily before putting his arm out for her to take "Did I hear you say we're taking a ride on Vhagar tomorrow morning? And who approved this little rendezvous?" He teased

He muttered under his breath about how noble were they really but helped his father where necessary into the hall, walking slightly behind him as their entrance was announced, scanning the room to look for any kind of familiar face and found very few.

She smiled and nodded as she looked up at him. “You did… and I believe that was you who promised me that you were going away but when you came back you would take me out on her.” She smiled, making their way into the hall with their names being called as everyone else had as well.

Max smiled happily as she stood near the back of the crowd of girls when she heard Joseph's name called. She gave a small frown though as she overhead some of them saying how his brother had been a much better looking man than him. She shook her head some and sighed softly as her father started to guide her to their placement.

Aemond chuckled quietly and nodded some "Oh right, I did say that." He said before walking out once their names were called. He looked over the women and smirked a bit "Well...if he chooses one of these women we won't have to worry about them advising him; they're all push overs and want to be worn on his arm only." He murmured to his wife quietly

Joseph went to get himself a drink while the women were being sent to him one after the other. It wasn’t long before he was exhausted, wanting to get away to his chambers to get some rest but he knew it would be noticed if he snuck away.

She smiled and turned to face him, leading him to their seats on the head table, “as long as I’m not the one to make such claims.” She murmured, sitting on his left as always. She’s learnt early on that he would only accept those he trusted most to sit on his blind side. It was only the people he felt safe with that were permitted to sit there.

Max waited her turn before going up to him, though she made sure her father was preoccupied before making her way there. She wasn't sure if Joseph would remember her or not, she was only 8 when she left and puberty had definitely struck her hard. She made her way over and gave a curtsey to him as she got close "Good evening Your Grace." She said polietly.

Aemond sat with her and gave her hand a small squeeze as he glanced around at everything. He was getting tired of this place, tired of these people who were not his own. He drank his wine quietly while he watched everything he could but stayed quiet for most of the night

Carmen was more than content to sit back and watch the dancing and the people, not particularly keen on partnering with a stranger but more so not about to leave aemond to brood on his own, taking his hand after a while, discreetly under the table when she spotted a familiar face across the room.

Joseph sighed quietly, nodding to the girl without really looking at her, distracted by now and the faces blurring together but he finally turned to face her and paused for a moment. “Good evening… have we met before?” He asked her after a long pause, seeing there appeared to be no one else currently in line to come pester him now.

Aemond gave her hand a small squeeze and smiled softly at her "Would you like to dance?" He asked quietly not wanting to keep her seated the entire time.

Max gave a soft laugh when she noticed how distracted he had become. She smiled sweetly at him and gave a small shrug deciding to tease him a bit if he didn't remember her "Its a possibility, you've met a lot of women I'm sure in your life time." She teased.

She frowned and glanced across at him. “Aemond one of your brothers kings guard is here.” She told him quietly having spotted him as soon as he walked in seeing as for a time he had been her own personal guard.

He frowned and rolled his eyes, “do I look like that’s amusing right now? If you won’t answer simple questions my lady then our conversation is done.” He told her, much colder than when she had known him or even compared to what his reputation was but the past few years had not been kind and in truth that was partially what had delayed him in findkng a wife in the first place

Aemond frowned deeply and scanned the room again feeling his anger flare when his eyes caught sight of the man in the back. He gave her hand a squeeze and ushered one of the knights over to him "Please escort that man out of here, he is not a welcome guest to the king."

Max frowned gently but gave a small nod. She noticed how tired her looked and it made her heart sink a bit. This definitely wasn't the lively boy she remembered from all those years ago. She looked back at the crowd for a minute before giving a small smile "Would you care to dance your grace?"

She frowned and shook her head. “He wouldn’t… why would he be here? Ser Arryk was always good to me. He wouldn’t come here to harm us.” She muttered.

He wanted to decline. He wanted to get out of there but he looked across the room to the table and sighed at the state his father was in, “why not? My lady.” He told her, taking her hand and taking her for a dance. “You still haven’t answered my question though. Have we met? You seem familiar.”

Aemond frowned deeply and turned to look at his wife now "Whatever he is here for it is not good for us, we need to get out of here." He said quietly as his paranoia started to spike.

Max smiled and took his hand as they made rheir way towards the dancing area. She gave a small laugh but nodded "We have met before, it was many years ago though." She explained as they started to sway across the floor "I must say, your attire tonight is very flattering. Green suits you well."

She frowned and gave his hand a squeeze. “I would like to hear him out…. Love he was the one who snuck me away safely to you.” She reminded him. “He can be trusted.”

He huffed a little “playing games now are we? I’ve been told it brings out my eyes.” He chuckled. She was crrtainy different to the others and he was enjoying it for now

Aemond gave a heavy sigh but nodded "Alright...let us go see what he needs then." He murmured before standing up with her and making their way away from the table.

Max laughed lightly and smiled widely when he mentioned his eyes "Yes it does, like chocolate buttons." She said watching as his face turned into almost anger after she mentioned the nickname his late mother had always called him as a child.

Carmen nodded and stood with him, walking through the crowds and out of the hall

He tensed the moment he heard it. “No. No I don’t think so.” He muttered and pulled away from her “excuse me.” He turned on his heel and walked away to go take a seat, motioning for more wine and turning to his father. “Which house is that?” He asked him, nodding to where he’d seen her go stand with a much older man.

Aemond kept close to her side as they made their way out towards Sir Arryk. He stood as tall as he could to the giant man oncr they were fully away from the crowd "Why are you here Sir Arryk?" He asked seriously.

Stephen looked in the direction that his son was and gave a small laugh "House Wends, surprised you didn't recognize Maxine. You two were practically attached at the hip when she lived here." He said giving a small sigh "They were here to bury her mother, so I invited an old friend to come by and have a good night for him.and his daughter." He explained

He had been arguing with the guards to try and get to aemond in the first place and soon heard the familiar voice, kneeling in front of him. “Your Grace. I bring news from Westeros. And a warning so that you and the lady Carmen may be better prepared. Your nephew was killed your Grace. In an accident that has sparked a war. Your sister Rhaenyra and her husband daemon have declared war against your brother for it though they will not stop until every possible claimant to the throne has been dealt with.” He told him quickly. “You should both try to remain away from Westeros for as long as you can.”

Joseph frowned as he watched her still from across the hall, nodding to him. “Then it is who I thought.” He muttered to himself.

Aemond frowned deeply as he listened to him giving a small nod "I see, thank you for your loyalty." He said before pulling out a handful of gold "Take this to find nicer place to sleep. If you need anything else, let me know immediately." He said before turning towards the guards who were aways away from them now "If you will excuse me, I will make sure the guards know to let you through next time."

Max stood with a few women after her father had practically forced her over there. She sipped at her wine always catching glances back at Joseph "So what would you do for the future king if he were to pick you for his wife?" She asked the ladies.
