Most people who see's Tarmid for the first time would describe him as a middle-aged grumpy dwarf. It is true, Tarmid is kinda grumpy with people he doesn't know. It's just some kind of dwarven reflex that is imprinted in him, before he start making jokes with you, you must prove that you are friendly. Tarmid, even when grumpy, likes to help people, and will go all out for the people he loves or his village. He likes to play silly tricks on people, like changing the taste of your food or to use some simple magic spell to surprise you. He does those light-hearted pranks to everyone, but has taken the habit to do them more on non-dwarves. Being the town mayor, he has a great sense of responsibility and trust his fellow citizen. He is loved by the people for his good judgement and his way to solve disputes with some jokes and magic tricks.

Background :

Tarmid was born at Nakasfikuk the 21th of Granite of the 523th year of the Age of Wonders.

His older brother, born 4 years earlier, was a great support for him and taught him many things while his parents were out-working. His father was, and is still to this day, a miner and his mother a fisherwoman.

During his early years, the life was good. Constituted essentially in playing with his brother, cleaning here and there, helping their parents etc.

When Tarmid was 20 (dwarven majority is 40) he was taken as an apprentice by the gnome Rinòwe Ikafidi, who taught him magic as best as he could and travelled across the world with him.

At the age of 45, Tarmid had finished his training and went back to Nakafikuk, and became the town wizard. Thrilled by his return, his family organized a great feast.

He exercised the function of town wizard until he was 72, during that time, he fought against some of the magical wildlife of the Amordatur's forest, but nothing too dangerous... there was that time with that unicorn though... but that's another story.

The second day of the month of Azure of the 595th years of the Age of Wonders, Stingbol the mist cleaver awoke from his long sleep.

That forgotten beast came from the abyss of the nearby sea and appeared before the eyes of Yara Zanegirid, Tarmid's mother.

She was Stingbol's first meal after a long sleep.

Stingbol then carried on his rampage as he attacked the town of Nakasfikuk, killing hundred of dwarves.

Tarmid came home after the battle, he had to resolve some trouble in the forest. When he witnessed the destruction, he grew a intense wrath against forgotten beast and swore to kill Stingbol by his own powers.

He engaged in an organisation called "The silver inquisition" whose goal was to hunt down Stingbol.

After month of research, they managed to find the location of the forgotten beast's lair.

They were fifty trained warriors, priests and spell caster and they were ready to die for their cause.

That's what Tarmid thought too... but he was wrong.

Stingbol manifested himself, he had regain his former glory after those month of eating and showed a strength without precedent.

His tongue flew right and left, catching several member of the inquisition, crushing them in spikes and taking them back to Stingbol where they were eaten.

Tarmid couldn't gather his courage and his spells were worthless against the destructive furry of Stingbol.

He ran away, fearing for his life, abandoning the life of his companions.

He ran as far as he could, as fast as his could, hearing the roar of Stingbol behind him and the cries of his mates.

All the member of the inquisition were eaten by the frog, everyone but Tarmid.

Tarmid was too scared to go back to his village, how could he possibly look the other dwarves after was he had done ?

Still willing to help his village with his limited means, he took shelter in the forest where he continued to protect the village from afar.

When he was 91, he met Olaca, a woman who had lost herself in the forest, she had been stung by a venomous animal and was unconscious.

The dwarf helped her as best as he could, using his spells and potions, he finally healed the woman completely days after.

Olaca convinced Tarmid to go back to the village, explaining that they were no longer as happy as they were before, and that they needed his help.

Tarmid first refused, explaining that he was a coward and that he couldn't stand against dangers.

Olaca went to visit Tarmid everyday for a month, when he finally accepted to go back to the village.

But at one condition.

He married Olaca as soon as they got back to the village.

Tarmid was explained that the new mayor, Kulet Okangenir, made the villager work for his own profit only and used his guards to force people to pay awfully high taxes.

Tarmid used his powers to play the meanest prank he had ever played, involving a pool of acid and a few ropes controled with telekinesis.

Needless to say, Kulet's guard were no match for Tarmid and Kulet soon ran away.

That event made Tarmid regain trust in himself, he was declared the new mayor by the citizens.

He played his role as a mayor nicely, trying to solve disputes by himself and talk face to face with the people.

He later had a daughter who was named Liwa, meaning Joy in gnome.

They also adopted a little human boy named Stavros, whose parents were found dead, poisoned by a very potent toxin. A way to die that Tarmid had already witnessed years earlier...

Stingbol.

When Tarmid was 112, he encountered Stingbol once again

He was terrified but this time he would not run away, he had something to protect.

He tricked Stingbol into his lair where he trapped him in with the help of his father and the village's miners.

The forgotten beast was best forgotten.

Stingbol is probably still alive in the depth of the world.

But if he decide to make surface once again, he knows that there is one dwarf that will try to lead him back to the shadow.
