Fantasy Tales of Raeligard

Arien Bermille
Location: Meeting Room 4 - Kriegslöwe Guildhall, Tylsen

As the group of recruits began to examine their options at the pinboard and discuss among themselves which request they would settle for, Arien was standing idly from afar, his gaze fixated upon the group - observing each and every one of them as if assessing not only their coherency as a group but their potentials as individuals as well.

Thea, the appointed leader, was the one to initiate the discussion and revealed her view on each of the presented options. The sight of such alleviated Arien's worries about the decision to have the leader be randomly chosen from the group, though minuscule they may be. Those who followed afterward expressed their views that aren't necessarily similar to hers, but still landed on the same option - the request regarding the town of Oyten and the supposed beast that plagues its neighboring woods.

From the exchanges between each member, Arien gathered they already had a clear picture of what they planned to do. However, there is always one who will stand against the current, who will choose to walk a different path from their peers. Hysydice, the young beastfolk that was often by her lonesome, was one such person - voicing out her thoughts on the matter. As expected, any opposition to the majority's opinion will spark an inevitable argument, though slowly it may boil.

For a swift moment, Arien's attention was turned to the door, where a small, faint blue glow emerged on its surface as a small figure phased through. The glow faded away as quickly as it appeared, revealing a familiar figure floating, no, flying towards Arien - it was the very same bird that could be found perched on the reception desk at the main lobby. The small feathered creature swiftly perched on Arien's shoulder and took rest there with a short chirp, as if it had returned to the comfort of its nest. A small nod was all that Arien gave as a response before returning his gaze to the group of recruits.

Thea, after listening to the words of her comrades, decided to consult Arien for any advice, perhaps even any extra information, should he be moved to give them any. To Arien, this was something to commend - many recruits have failed to move forward simply because they did not care to learn from the veterans.

"You have brought up some good points, and so have your comrades. These quests, while falling in the F-rank classification, are incomparable to the usual requests posted for that rank. Opportunities like these come rarely, and many consider these as the means for promotion.", he said to Thea, but his words clearly addressed everyone. "To the average F-rank, these quests demand success and it only stands to reason that one would take a request involving skills that one is already experienced at. It would not be of any surprise if you would choose to do the same."

"However, a tree grows not without branches. Succeeding at something you're already skilled with is good, but what will you do when you face a wall you've never scaled before? Confronting an obstacle that you have not trained for is an easy way to put a short end to your journey.", he raised an eyebrow briefly. "A jack of all trades is indeed a master of none, but a master of one easily becomes deadweight in the grand scheme of it all."

"As I have said before, the choice falls unto you. I was advised to not give any excessive assistance, and I believe giving you my opinion should not be considered as such.", Arien added.

"Dhai'Nir is no simple town. Visiting it might help broaden your horizons, and perhaps even lighten the evident tension between certain members of your group. Though their request does not necessarily press urgency, supplies are not so easily found in the mountains."

"As for Oyten, I've visited that town once from what I can recall. Oytenrand is a dense forest, it is home to a great variety of wildlife - if a beast truly plagues the town's logging area, solving the issue before it worsens would be good. Though if the mayor has sent word, it should not be long until a hunter comes to their aid."

"The Aurelian Church is an ally of the guild, maintaining that relationship would be beneficial for both parties - and with an Aurezian diplomat, that bond could become stronger. Perhaps they could even help you resolve the conflicts between your beliefs and ideals."

"Though it has a bit of distance from Tylsen, Lohrof is a long-time trade partner of the city. Aiding the ails of their local market may very well pave the path to better relation between not only Tylsen and Lohrof, but from any other cities who wish to trade with the two cities."

Arien gave a short but sound exhale at the end. "These are my opinions, however. They may not prove to be completely true, but it is what I can gather from what I already know."

Falco listened to the opinions of his would-be comrades. It came as no surprise that Sakura also preferred the beast hunt over the other options offered, but he could not help but smile when Lucia and even Risax agreed. He mistakenly thought the Caskarieth would prefer a comfortable job in a city or town, not trekking through the woods. and Risax, the former merchant, certainly didn't seem like the sort to choose wilderness over civilization.

However, his mood soured when Hyss gave her assessment, particularly when she insinuated that they were choosing this out of a desire for glory or thrill seeking. Everyone had made clear why they chose the hunt over the other quests, so he couldn't understand why she decided to ignore that and accuse them of selfish pursuits. Worse yet, she continued the refrain of 'let someone else do it.' She had said the same of the sheep escort mission a few days ago, leading him to question if she understood the purpose of this guild at all.

But, despite his mild irritation, Falco held his tongue. They were to decide this as a group, so Hyss was certainly free to express her opinion. And, if her tone was anything to go by, she meant no offense. He knew very little about her, but it was becoming clear interactiong with others was not her strong suit. Maybe I can help with that, Falco thought, his good nature winning in the end, though he doubted she would welcome any assistance he could offer. She had spurned his guidance before, but a stubborn refusal to submit to failure was one of his strongest traits. He would try again. He would try until she became sick of him... and then try some more.

But, just as he was on his way to enjoying himself once more, a disgruntled Thea turned upon the snakelike beast girl. Aww, shit... Falco thought with a slow shake of his head as the taller girl gave the small beastfolk a thorough lecturing, which included briefly spraying Falco with friendly fire.

"Actually, I wasn't thinking that at all," Falco murmured, letting his gaze innocently drift aside when she insinuated he thought her legs and figure were a mentionable part of her usable 'skills.' He hadn't been thinking about her legs at all! How conceited of her to say such a thing! "I mean, I am now..." he added, under his breath.

Nevertheless, he was willing to laugh it off and move on to bigger and better things --though few things were bigger or better than Thea's glorious stilts-- until Lucia spoke up, vocalizing her displeasure with all of this. He found her distrust of the guild unfortunate... but not exactly unsurprising. Their first mission had been a massive clusterfuck, so he could see why she'd grown cynical. However, he had enjoyed the last couple of days, which were a lot more representative of F-Rank guild life as a whole. Unfortunately, the last couple of days had also been immensely boring and he wanted out of F-Rank as quickly as possible. No more rats and murderhobos, but something a little more fulfilling than escorting sheep, finding lost pets, and delivering mundane parcels. he enjoyed being of service to the people of Tylsen, but it felt a little too much like the odd jobs and gigs he'd done all his life.

I just wanna feel like an adventurer, dammit, Falco thought, his shoulders slumping slightly as Lucia finished. And then, with a mild shock, he realized Hyss may have had a point. Not much of a point, but at least one thing she said was right: he wanted glory. Just a little bit. A tiny bit. He didn't want his name in lights or strewn across banners, but he wanted to do something special. Something somone else couldn't or didn't do. Something suitable only for an adventurer.

He listened intently as Arien gave further details about each task, but his words only further reinforced Falco's own opinions, while adding context.

When the man was done, Falco stepped forth and turned to Hyss. "I still wanna take on the Oyten quest," he said to her. "That's not 'sticking to what I know,' 'cuz I know jack shit about hunting rats or monsters or men. And, like I said, we don't get much combat experience at F-Rank. And it probably won't get much better at E-Rank, either." His gaze panned across the others. "I remember our first mission quite well, thank you. I remember getting absolutely fucking floored by a gloating clown as he nearly killed my friends right in front of me while I couldn't do a damned thing about it, so, yeah, pardon me if I want a little more combat experience so that it doesn't happen again. And I don't blame the guild for that," he said, briefly meeting Lucia's eye, as well as Arien, "I blame myself. Every one of these is a dice roll. Anything can happen. When we accept the mission, we accept the outcome," he said, with a casual shrug... far too casual for someone who was insinuating that any of these missions could get them killed, or worse.

"Anyway, our group is diverse enough that, if we lean on each other and work together, we stand a good chance of dealing with whatever's out there," he concluded. "Together, we're more than a couple of F-Rank losers, okay, and I think it's great that What's-His-Face has finally recognized that and is tossing us a bone," he gestured to Arien. "So, if it's learning and experience you want, look around you. Everyone here can teach you something," he said to Hyss. "And if you're scared or think its all a big damn conspiracy, just know that you're not goin' it alone. We're all walkin' into the same trap together," he said to Lucia with a wink. "C'mon, guys. We got this."

Falco, though agreeing with him, did have a pretty different idea from what Thal had perceived the Oyten quest to be. It wasn't to seek the grandeur of being regaled as a hero but rather one to walk away from with more experience and hopefully new skills in regards to fighting. Lucia agreed as well, deeming it to be a quest that is most fitting to their current array of groups. Sakura and Risax soon followed. A nearly collective agreement on which quest to take.

Thal wasn't going to say that he didn't expect that people would have differing opinions but it seemed that the tension in the group seemed to carry over from before. Hyss had a good point but so did everyone else. On his part, he was rather secure in his answer— it wasn't like he was some glorified hunter in his youth nor trained extensively in fighting. At most, he would call winning against that bandit as dumb luck and nothing more. The halberd wielder was desperate for an escape and the presence of their numbers made him sloppy in his aggressiveness. To him, all of these quests would bring to light new experiences regardless of what they would take. The thing is that they were expected to succeed in these.

Thea berated Hyss and for a moment, Thal wondered if the underlying animosity from before caused this. However, Thea's glare turned to Falco who was reprimanded for his nicknames. Finally, she asked Arien for further details and advice on what to tackle. It would seem that most of the quests didn't really hold that much gravity, as expected from an F-ranked quest. They were not urgent nor would they remain unresolved should they not take them.

Though Lucia's scathing remarks seem to be directed at most of them, Thal simply chuckled, taking little to no offense. It was true. He only thought of his own personal gain from these missions, not the group as a whole or how it might affect the towns they would help. Thal wasn't even thinking too much about the promotion— something he had deemed to be rather far-off a few days ago. But Lucia was correct. Whatever happened during their first quest was mostly coincidental. All they were required to do was make sure to hunt as much rats as they could and find out why the rats were scurrying out of the sewers out of season. Combat was the last thing in their minds for that mission. Rats could barely put up a good fight after all. He leaned back onto his chair as Falco began to speak. Right, Falco had come out of that quest the most heavily injured out of all of them.

As Falco finished, Thal nodded. "Hey Falco, keep this up and I'll be convinced you took rallying speech lessons." He joked, giving him a smile before turning to the others. "I have to agree with him. I don't know much about you guys and what you've achieved prior to entering the guild but combat wasn't exactly something I did when I was your age, surprising, I know. Fighting wasn't my expertise and what happened in that sewers was just a lot of luck on my part. I did want to go on this to have a practical application for what I learned during downtime here at the guild." He admitted, much in the same line as Falco's reasoning.

"Besides, we can also work in the cohesiveness of our group. You know, playing off of each other in both combat and non-combat situations. Regardless of which quest we take, there's something we can learn from it." He paused before continuing. "I"m just biased to the Oyten quest."

Thea Schuerer
Location: Kriegslöwe Guildhall, Tylsen
Listening to her teammates and Arien, it was little surprise that the first bit of problems would come up from the usual source as she seen it. The memory still bitterly retained from her last dealings with Hyss. Letting the group say what they willed, the last two Beast Folk seemed to have nothing to say, or at least not just yet, and so Thea spoke up herself to the group as a whole.

"Save it for later you two." She said to Lucia and Hyss, with a sigh as she turned her attention to what all else had been said by Arien; "While a bit of travel may do us good, I rather doubt most in this room have bought or had the supplies for a long trek into the countryside and I doubt the guild will provide those. And honestly, I doubt a long travel time and new horizons will improve how well we see one another so much as how much we distaste the other. If I had my way, I would take on two jobs, or jobs that can be done along a route and split the team in half."

Letting that bit sink in a bit she shrugs. "But I've been given my orders, or at least the option of them and so I shall carry them out." Turning her attention to Falco she snorted at bit as his notions of Diversity of the group and how valuable it was.

"Aye, fresh ideas and different people, new perspectives. It all sounds nice till you face down a cavalry charge, then you wish for a bit of uniformity in the ranks to stop that. All thoughts are of value of being listened to, then they must be judged of value and used or discarded. I can't wait for the..." A pause. "...spirited discussions our group shall have."

A bit of sarcasm ran thick from her voice as she seemed to steel herself, standing a bit straighter.

"Least the three others have anything to say, Oyten is where we shall go. While I still have my thoughts on dealing with the issues of the Church, this group I suspect will have more than a few differences, so for now the mission we all can agree upon and carry out shall do. As noted with the Church there is only a couple I would trust even speaking, the travel, well this job will have a little of that."

With that there was a bit of a pause as she held up her Arcanizer; "Regardless of what I may or may not think of you, I shall do my duty to the Guild and to keep my Honor intact. I shall not leave you to bleed out nor use you to shield me from harm. My Arcanizer, though weak for now has been set up to aid in healing. Surface level wounds mind you, cuts and minor burns, things like that. I have my normal medical items as well. Though I shall operate at the front, know that I will heal your wounds, all I ask in kind is that you give me support in kind."

With this out of the way she looks at Hyss and Sakura pointedly. "Our differences aside I shall lead this as I am best able. I am not asking you to like me, nor am I going to start liking you, but we must support one another as members of the Kriegslown. Allies need not like one another, just not hinder the operation as a whole. Least there is more debate, make ready to leave within half a bell, I shall confer to gain the route to the area and what we can expect in travel, you know best how to ready yourselves. If not ask those of us who seem well traveled or from the rural regions." With that Thea turns from the rest and grabs the quest from the options, ready to present it to Arien.

Like Thea, giving her opinion after what Hyss said, Lucia spoke up as well. With a subtle glance from light silver eyes, she eyed the Caskerieth. She wasn't looking for an argument, but a discussion. Why couldn't people simply discuss things? Due to it beginning the start of an argument, Hyss simply lowered her head to have her hood shadow her face, and slipped into silence.

It seemed everyone was in a rather argumentative mode. That deflated her mood. She was not in an argumentative mood, nor did she see any reason for it. It simply wasn't constructive.

Her eyes glanced over at Arien, who began to speak, putting in his own thoughts on the matter after Thea asked him for some. At what he had to say, Hyss felt somewhat better. At least there was someone there who had a brain, and could do a bit of forward-thinking. This was the man she often forgot about and disregarded -- perhaps she should rethink her stance on him, and not take him quite so lightly. It was nice to have some of what you said affirmed, but it was irritating beneath her cloak that her words were only regarded when regurgitated by a veteran, and ignored elsewise. It's not like her words took on any other special meaning just because they were said by another.

So these quests were used for advancement? To be honest, that appealed to Hyss, but she hadn't even been considering 'advancement' at all. Now that it was on the table, she found herself longing for it. She could see why people would aim for glory if it meant 'advancing' in the guild. That was something she simply hadn't considered. She had just figured it would take quite awhile before any advancement happened, and she should learn as much as possible before then. But if advancement could happen quickly, then she supposed slaying some beast wasn't a bad choice. She ultimately had nothing against beast-slaying -- it wasn't like she thought that was a useless thing. Quite the contrary, she figured combat was going to be a big part of her life moving forward, so learning the ins and outs of it no matter the opponent made sense. She just didn't think many of those around her actually put any thought into their choice, and were simply hasty in their choice.

She didn't know his inner aspirations about trying to what befriend her? But Hyss found herself grateful when Falco finally shut up. What he said probably sounded great in his own mind, but to her, it only sounded a bit aggressive and condescending. Not that it agitated her, as Hyss tended to disregard that boy's particular words. Still, he said a couple things she didn't disagree with.

Her eyes flickered over to the Ovil-ken. Ah, he was looking for experience just as she was? Only in combat. Her lips creased and she furrowed her brow. A small knot formed in her chest. She had taken it for granted that they all had some combat experience, the Ovil-ken most of all in her mind. Hyss felt bad she had allowed herself to be swayed by the stereotype of an Ovil-ken. She needed to realize by now that Thal was a bit softer than you'd think. While she thought that may ultimately be a hindrance in their chosen field, it was not something she intentionally judged people on. Hyss was welcoming of people and their differences. She felt bad for stereotyping. "Apologies," she spoke up. "I did not mean to offend. It seems I need to slow down, and consider others and their situations. My experience does not equate to others." She said, pulling her hood even lower with a tug on its brim.

Hyss's attention was drawn back to Thea as she began speaking once again. The Beastfolk found herself frowning slightly. Since when did 'liking' one another come up so pointedly? Or, disliking each other, for that matter. She nodded. "Whichever mission we are on, I shall perform my duties as much as I am able. I intend to be the reliable sort. That is my goal. If you ever have any questions, or are feeling nervous, you can count on me. Count on Hysydice."

"Very well then..." Sakura spoke after listening what her companions had to say in their minds when it regards to the quests and what sort of thing needed to learn. "If that were to be your decision, then so be it. If anything, I'll be more than a help to our cause. Maybe I can learn a thing or two as we move along with whatever objective that was brought upon us. That is a guarantee." She said with a quip of assurance, as if she is trying to get on the young noble knight's good side.

Risax didn't really need to say too much more once again falco surmising the Arachne own sentiment towards the task at hand but of course in falco signature sort of way. After his own conversation with miss hyss, it did make Risax wonder why they where sticking around if they found so much objectionable, he'd heard of the church's distaste for beastfolk and pagans, understandable to some degree much like cornering a market on goods they wished to do the same with souls. Tho perhaps they were not wrong about the savagery of some derivatives? Eating hearts, After all, its hardly acceptable in polite society.

"Well it seems a majority is in agreement upon our next course of action if not glamour it will at least be an adventure in it of itself, tis all but small steps to a greater goal whatever that may be for the individuals at hand, besides a good bit of teamwork never hurt anyone, ok It might have in some instances but we shall ignore that for the sake of argument," Risax said tapping their chin thoughtfully in the process. shaking their head at the small argument that sparked and just sighing there wasn't any point in saying much more he hoped they'd move on soon

Location: Cephilia's Manor, headed to Tylsen Guild Hall

Cephilia paced back and forth across the polished floors of her home's foyer, pausing every few seconds to impatiently tap her foot and glare toward the kitchen at the end of the hall. "Viv, dammit, you're going to make us late!" she shouted. "Don't make me come back there, you goofy old cow!"

The target of her angry ranting poked her head through the kitchen door, her decorated horns appearing a moment before her cheerful face. "Ohh, I just can't decide," the centaur said, flustered and confused. "Icing or no icing? And, if I do add icing, should I make little smiley faces or... no, no, no, that's a bit much. Maybe I'll add nuts instead. Icing is too sweet."

"That makes two things that are too damned sweet," Cephilia hissed. "Who cares about cookies!? Get your ass out here RIGHT NOW!"

"Okay, okay, no icing! I'll hurry," Vivenne said with a friendly smile before disappearing back into the kitchen, followed by the sounds of her gently humming a melody to herself as she meticuously removed the hot cookies from the baking pan and arranged them in a basket.

"You don't sound like you're hurrying!" Cephilia folded her arms and waited, still ticking away the second with every tap of her foot. A few feet away, her elderly butler, Maurice, was pretending to mind his own business, peacefully fluffing the cushions on a couch in the parlor. "It's not funny," Cephilia rebuked him.

"Of course not, milady," the old gentleman remarked.

"I see you smirking, Maurice," Cephilia said. "Stop that."

"As you wish, Lady Cephilia," he said, though his smirk only grew larger, despite turning away to hide it.

"Though it may amuse you people, I take my punctuality very seriously," Cephilia proudly declared, turning up her nose. "I come from a family of watchmakers, you know."

"Ah, yes, there she goes again with the 'I come from a family of' blah blah blah," Vivienne said as she sauntered through the hallway and into their midst, presenting herself --and the freshly-baked cookies-- with a small flourish and a curtsey. "If it's not watches, it's zauberites. If it's not zauberites, it's whatever gadget-of-the-week she's working on. I hardly think Mister Maurice needs reminding which family you're from, dear. Isn't that right?" she said, with a wink and a nod for the stately old butler.

"Mhm. I've served the Valdergeuses for quite some time," he said, returning her nod in kind. "I've known Lady Cephilia since she was but a child."

"Which makes it all the more nostalgic when she acts like one," the towering centaur said, before approaching Cephilia and aggressively petting her head. "Behave yourself, or you'll get no cookies, little girl," she said, wagging a finger at the petulant little Caskarieth.

This was the final straw for Maurice. The old man doubled over with laughter as Cephilia turned red all the way to the tips of her pointy ears and squirmed away from Vivienne's reach.

"I can do without the two of you ganging up on me!" the elf said as she wrenched the door open and pointed out. "Come on, Viv. You have your stupid cookies and you've had your laughs, so let's go," she said, gesturing to the exit. "I hardly think wanting to be on time is childish behavior. This is the last time I ever let you use my kitchen."

"Oh, but I absolutely adore your oven. It browns the edges juuuuust right and makes the fluffiest bread and sweet rolls," Viv said. "Speaking of the kitchen, I shall return to clean up, Mr. Maurice, I promise. But I fear if I dally any longer, the young miss may explode. She is frightfully impatient, you know."

"Indeed. Think nothing of it, Lady Yvarra," the old man said, still stifling a laugh as Cephilia grabbed the other woman by the horns and steered her outside. She did not release her until they had staggered awkwardly down the front steps, to the street. The butler waved goodbye from the porch of Cephilia's estate before stepping back inside and shutting the door.

The two Kriegslowen walked in silence toward the guild hall. Cephilia took the lead, moving at a brisk pace, while Viv trailed behind, easily keeping up despite the Caskarieth's rapid footsteps. "You know, I thought you'd be in a better mood, now that Maze has left town," Viv said. "You've been awfully uptight since she began snooping around. More than usual, I mean."

"Hmph, I happen to like Integra's sense of duty. You should follow her example," the brooding elf said. "And what makes you think I'm in a bad mood? I'm not in a bad mood. I feel great," Cephilia said in a deadpan. "I just don't like being made a fool of.... or seeing one of the guild's most respected veteran adventurers making a fool of herself. There is a weight to these things, Viv, and it is not to be taken lightly! Act your age."

"Hmm, yes... but I have always believed it is both healthy and wise to play the fool, sometimes. 'Tis good for the soul... just like cookies!" Viv remarked jangling her basket of goodies, which earned a powerful eye roll from the Caskarieth. "Anyway, what surprise do you think Arien has in store for them? The newcomers have been working so hard! I'm pleased he has decided to reward their efforts."

"If they consider this hard work, they won't last a day in the upper ranks. Besides, what makes you so sure it's a 'reward?' Could be more work for them. That's what they really need, work," Cephilia said as they crossed the market square, which was already beginning to blossom with activity, despite the early morning hours. "Money's tight when you're a lowly F-Rank. And scavenger hunts and fetch quests don't pay the bills, no matter how many of them you might squeeze into each day."

These words earned her a wily grin from Viv.

"Yes, I was born into wealth. I get it," Cephilia exclaimed, wagging a finger at her. "But I was a lot wealthier before I took the oath, okay. I can only imagine what it's like for those who don't have deep pockets to fall back upon."

"They fall back upon their friends," Vivienne said with a small laugh as they arrived at the guild hall and stepped inside. "Friends with deep pockets."

This, of course, resulted in Cephilia rolling her eyes for the second time. "I don't do free handouts," she grumbled as they crossed the main room, where a blue bird sat perched upon one of the tables, watching as they passed. Viv waved, but Cephilia merely ignored the creature as they continued down one of the rearward corridors. As they neared the meeting room, they could hear voices inside. It seemed the new recruits were having a rather lively discussion about something.

Viv hastened her pace, but Cephilia halted her. "Hang on," the Caskarieth said, lowering her voice to a whisper. "I wanna hear this."

"You mean eavesdrop..." Viv said. But she acquiesced and both women crept silently up to the open doorway and listened to the conversations within.

It sounded as if the new recruits were debating which job to take on. Oh, so that's you angle? Cephilia thought, picturing Arien's face. So, he had given them work after all. Good. She had half a mind to leave this matter to him, since he seemed to be handling the newbies quite well, not pampering them, like Vivenne would do, or being overly harsh like a certain Caskarieth noblewoman might.

Interesting points were made as the debate progressed and she began to see these newcomers in a new light. Most importantly, they seemed to be interested in two things: their personal growth as adventurers and service to the people. Rather than debating which mission might be the most lucrative or fun, their discussion seemed to revolve around which one they stood the best chance of completing, which one would grow their respective skill sets, and which one most required an adventurer's intervention.

"Beautiful," Viv said, pretending to wipe away a tear after Falco gave a small speech about friendship or something, when the debate seemed to get a little too heated. "Isn't he the model of what an adventurer should be? I may cry."

"I could vomit," Cephilia said, even though she knew the centaur was merely mocking the boy. Of course that flirty moron would talk about 'friendship' in a room full of girls. Personally, I think Edelgard makes a better point: always be suspicious of the client, even when that client is the Guild itself, she thought, as the discussion continued. This is business, after all. Read between the lines before accepting any contract. I would like to think I taught her that.

A moment later, the blue bird from the main hall fluttered overhead, weaving between VIv's horns and into the room, as Arien began to speak. "I think that's enough snooping. Perhaps we ought to head in?" Viv whispered to her co-conspirator.

Cephilia shoved her hands into her pockets and began to walk away. "You go ahead. I'll leave this to you and Bermille..."

"Oh, no you don't," Viv exclaimed as she grabbed the Caskarieth by the collar and dragged her inside. Cephilia kicked and struggled for a moment, but stilled the moment they crossed the threshold and were within view of the others. "Helloooo! Oh, what a lovely morning this is!" Viv exclaimed as she released her companion and presented the basket of cookies, for anyone who wished to have one. "Sorry to arrive so late, though it seems Mr. Bermille was doing just fine without us."

Meanwhile, Cephilia quietly straightened her attire, after being unceremoniously dragged into the room. She brushed some nonexistant dust from her shoulder and turned her attention to perusing the written requests, as if appraising their worth. She lifted the one from the 'Envoy of Chaos' and scowled as she read it through numerous times, before scoffing and placing it back down.

"So, Oyten, hmm..." Cephilia said as she turned to face them, finally ackowledging the other sentient lifeforms in the room. She appeared to be weighing something in her mind. "That's quite a trek for some broke newbies," she added before taking one of Viv's cookies and turning to Arien. "I suppose I can arrange transport... unless you already have something set up for them. Also, it's a bit of a long shot, but I may know of a hunter in that region who'd be willing to guide them... I am sure they will need it."

Arien Bermille
Location: Meeting Room 4 - Kriegslöwe Guildhall, Tylsen

"It seems you have all come to an accord.", Arien gestured Thea to hand over their chosen quest. Though the matter was nearing its conclusion, the meeting came to an abrupt halt as the more senior members of the guild enter the room. The ever-so-friendly beastfolk along with the renowned Caskarieth - two of the most respected Kriegslöwen of the Tylsen branch, and Arien made sure to keep such in mind.

"Miss Vivienne, Miss Cephilia." With a subtle bowing gesture, he acknowledged their presence and the words they carried. "Those are generous offers, Miss Cephilia, though I am afraid they will be unable to take that transport arrangement. It is important for them to learn early how to travel on their own."

"Worry not.", he added as his gaze turned to the recruits. "The guild will cover your travel expenses, as long as you present to your chosen transport your guild badge and the documents involving such travels. However, that privilege will only last up to your days in E Rank. You can thank Miss Cephilia and her esteemed diplomacy for such a boon."

"They have been notified that they will be doing their chosen quest without supervision from any higher-ranked Kriegslöwen. Whether it will be appropriate to give them additional aid via a guide, will be left to your verdict, Miss Cephilia."

Once Arien had received the paper containing the group's chosen quest, he would mark it as taken and in progress, give them a copy of the officiated documents, and finally put an to the meeting with one last remark.

"There are plenty of transport companies in Tylsen, make sure to choose wisely before you avail any of them. If you are still not familiar with the layout of the city, a majority of these lie in the eastern sections of the city, just before the eastern gates. The Land Ferries are stationed there as well."

Thea listen's to Sakura's words, the Knight nods her head in affirmation. Maybe she would indeed learn something, either way this would be one hell of a journey. Before she could get much further in handling the planning phase of all this two more would arrive, or rather judging by the disposition, Cephilia was dragged in by Vivienne. Which made some sense. Listening to the two women and then Arien, Thea nods her head to the two arrivals. Not wanting to say anything just yet she waits for the conversation between them all to end before contributing to it. Pondering to open up with her customary Lady and Ser, she decided against it with a bit of hesitance, settling on the Miss that Arien himself had used;

"Ladi- err, Miss Vivienne, Miss Cephilia, I am in agreement with Mister Ber.. Ser Arien, sounds more correct to me, least you have a preference in name, either way. He is correct, while I'm not wont to look a gift horse in the mouth, the two of you have done a bit for us already. And we must learn to take care of this ourselves. Though on the note of the guide, if you wish to contact them that is acceptable or you can give us the information to seek them out ourselves." Considering the rest of the information she pauses for a bit and continues.

"As to the means of travel;" With that a pause as she looks at the rest. "I have not been in a Land Ferry and am unsure if it would hold our large beast folk friend there..." With a gesture she points at Risax before continuing. "I had planned to travel on foot, horse or with beast and cart. I rather we not get used to a means of Travel we may be unable to afford easily in the future, but we could make an exception this once. What say those of you, do any know of the companies and which may be the best?"

Lucia Corinna Edelgarde

Location: Kriegslowe Guildhouse
It didn't take long for their debate to be interrupted by Arein. As usual, the man was measured and reasonable in his advice. He continued to depict himself as one of their more diplomatic superiors. He commented on each of their points, giving pros and cons to each. It was a fair statement. Though Lucia was hardly interested in the more mundane assignments, or really non-combative ones, but she would have to acquire expertise in nonviolent subjects. She was well-read, but it was unlikely her background of politics would come in handy here. She needed something else useful.

"...I concede your point..." Lucia stated simply.

Listening on as Falco chimed in. He was making a good point at first, much what Lucia already believed. She had some training, but Thea was superior to her on that front. She was child to politicians. They didn't raise or train her to scuffle. That came later on in her life, and so she was relatively green despite being a quick study when it interested her. Moreso, however, he explained exactly how their mission was a clusterfuck.

Though, his comments seemed to begin turning into a speech of some kind. The simple fact of them all being together wasn't enough to instill the young Caskarieth with confidence. If anything, being around politicians meant she could catch a whiff of bullshit, no matter how miniscule.

Next was Thal, who caught a surprised look from Lucia as well. She expected him to be more trained, or experienced, than most here given his race. Lucia was relatively ignorant of their culture, but she thought it was more combative than her own. Closing her eye, Lucia leaned back in her chair to avoid any eye contact. Thankfully, she didn't actually say anything so she was only shown a fool to herself.

Thea spoke up, accepting the task in a rather dramatic fashion. She was the leader, however. Honestly Lucia didn't think these discussions were so heated to warrant worry of real strife, though perhaps that was her upbringing making its way into her demeanor again. Her parents loved to talk and argue and Lucia loved to be difficult to attain some meager fraction of revenge.

Hyss seemed to be of the same mind and take the argument as more than intended. At least, she seemed more withdrawn as a result of it. Lucia let out a soft sigh.

"I am rather outspoken, or so it is how I am used to being. However, I do not think of such debates as hostile, whether we disagree or come to a resolution. I simply speak my mind when I have comment," Lucia stated in addition, expressing that she at least wasn't intending to sound so at odds. "Disagreements won't cloud my mind or change my demeanor."

The wolf and the spider both agreed with the choice of quest with little else said, but then came a surprise.

In popped Vivienne and Cephilia. The former was wearing a smile equipped with cookies and the other was trying to pretend she hadn't just been dragged in by the former. Lucia's eyes steadied on the pair as a small smirk formed on her face. It was entertaining to see the older Caskarieth the slight bit flustered.

Popping up as discussions of transport, Lucia took one of the offered cookies with a small nod. "Many thanks Lady Vivienne," She greeted before turning slightly to the other. "Lady Cephilia," She greeted as well before returning to her seat.

She took a bite from the treat and, as evident by her expression, it was quite tasty. However, as Thea questioned on transportation, Lucia slowly shook her head. "Unfortunately, I would not know. My family had servants or workers transport us, less I ran off on my own by foot... It shouldn't be too difficult to find some of these companies Ser Arein mentioned if we seek them out."

The discussion for what they where doing had finally come to an end, the conversation shifting to travel option for the party to get to their destination, oh and the arrival of Viv and Cephilia showed up, Risax giving them both a friendly wave. “good morning miss Vivian and miss Cephilia we where just working out what quest we’d be embarking upon“ Risax greeted them with a cheerful grin. as for traveling Risax was mostly used to walking or riding upon one of the wagon his father owned of course this was basically laying down on a hammock hanging from the side, so he was perfectly fine to walk or just take some carriages.

”well I’m not opposed to simply walking their but a carriage would likely be more prudent it may have accomodation for my physiology as opposed to a land farry but that’s about all I have to say on the matter“

Sakura stared at the basket of cookies, which are something that her clan never had. "Thank you, Lady Vivienne. I have never seen such a treat like this before, let alone taste one." She thanked before she took one of the cookies and took a bite out of it. "Huh? What is this?" The sweet taste and the crunchy texture had begun to overwhelm the beastkin's senses "The combination of sweetness and crunch is something that my tongue have never felt before. Why do I feel so... addicted? This shouldn't be possible for someone that is a carnivore as I. Lady Vivienne, what kind of aphrodisiac did you put into this treat?"

Sakura was blanked out for a while until the discussion about transport popped up, returning her to her senses and finished her cookie. "I don't mind any form of transport. I am used to travelling far places on foot though." She spoke.

Thal raised a dismissive hand towards Hyss, accepting her apology without much issue. It certainly wasn't typical for his kind to not have much in the ways of combat experience. Ovil-ken who were born and raised in towns and cities were few and far between. There was no use in getting up and angry about a bit of stereotyping as long as the misunderstanding had been cleared. It wouldn't do well in plans if they had continued with the assumption that he was combat trained in some way.

The quest had been decided on— to beast hunting it is. It wasn't long after their decision had been finalized when Vivienne and Cephilia came into the meeting room— one clearly more energetic and chipper than the other. "Good morning and thank you kindly." He greeted with a raise of his hand. He followed Lucia when she had stood up to grab an offered cookie and took one for himself as well before returning to his seat after expressing his gratitude. Her cookies always tasted great. He wondered if he could ask Vivienne about its recipe. He'd love to hear about what his mother would think about it.

The matter of a guide would seem like they're getting help, but it wouldn't be that much of a difference from asking a local about what they know about this beast. Still, Thea had already spoken with them and he was pretty much in agreement.

"Neither do I. When I came here to Tylsen, I just hitched a ride with a merchant to take me here." He said with a shake of his head. It looks like the others who had first spoken up were in the same boat. Risax had been a bit of a problem due to his larger physique but he imagined that there should be carriages that would be able to accommodate their friend. "Carriage, land ferry, on foot... all are fine with me. Though I imagine getting on a land ferry would at least get us there faster but it's likely going to be expensive. As you said, it's not going to be a viable option once the guild stops covering our travel fees so we might as well get used to just traveling within our budget."

"We should probably stock up on resources too, for the long trip there."

"Ah, I see," Cephilia remarked, ponderously rubbing her chin when Arien informed her the recruits would not be allowed to accept any transportation arrangements she could offer. So, these quests were both a boon and a test to see how they performed without the aid of their superiors? She and Viv had missed that part of the discussion. Thanks for that, the elf thought, briefly glaring at the centaur who had made them late. But her ire swiftly passed.

"Good call, Bermille. F-Ranks so rarely leave town, I nearly forgot about those arrangements," Cephilia added with a warm, yet smug, smile when he spoke of the Guild-subsidized transportation. "You all can thank me later."

"Wow, I've never seen an 'esteemed diplomat' in action before. Thanks," Falco said, stifling a chuckle. He was up to something, and Cephilia's glare immediately zeroed in on him. "If only those arrangements covered sewer travel," he added.

"I see someone still longs to be a frog..." Cephilia replied, lifting her sleeve to brandish her shiny, gilded arcanizer. It was not the 'decorative' three slot variant she had worn on their previous outing, but a fully-loaded seven-slot example. The mere sight of it wiped that stupid grin off his face and Falco sheepishly took a cookie from Viv's basket and said no more.

Fortunately, for him, the discussions carried on, ignorant of his foolish commentary. Thea Schuerer, the party's chosen leader, was the next to speak. Her strong sense of decorum clashed sharply with Falco's stark lack of it. She even went as far as questioning how best to address the veteran adventurers before doubling down on Arien's desire for the recruits to stand on their own two feet. The knight pondered if a Land Ferry could accomodate the party's largest member, which caused the dicussion to veer off into questions of how they would travel and which options were available to them. Vivienne, who had years of experience in precisely that field, seemed prepared to quell their doubts, but Falco beat her to it:

"Oooh, I know this one," he said, enthusiastically raising his hand, as if this were a classroom. With the amount of people speaking, Cephilia could hardly blame him. And he seemed eager to be useful, or perhaps merely pleased he knew something his peers did not. "I've only ridden a land ferry a couple o' times, but I've hung around the terminals enough to know they take all kinds of folks," Falco said, after Lucia, Risax, Sakura, and even Thal had spoken. "He'll fit. It's really neat, actually. They, like, move the seats around and stuff to make space," he said, gesturing wildly.

Cephilia merely shrugged, content that he had actually contributed, though he could have done so sooner and with less theatrics. Viv, on the other hand, felt the need to build upon what had been said: "The fare is a a little higher for people like us, but well worth it, in my opinion," she said with a friendly wink at the arachne and a nod to Thal. "The Guild's footing the bill, so you may as well go for the fastest, most comfortable option."

"It's the only way," Cephilia said, her tone stern. "In this phase of your career, time is money. You don't want to cut corners on the mission or the prep, so travel is the best place to shave hours or days. Oyten's about a day away by land ferry, a little more by cart or carriage, and twice that on foot. Even after your free ride expires, I recommend the ferry, if your budget can accomodate it. You will not only arrive sooner, but you'll be ready for action, instead of saddlesore and weary. Years of research and development have made it the pinnacle of modern travel for a reason. This talk of walking is giving me a migraine."

"Have a cookie," Viv said when her rant was done. She looked to Sakura and smiled as the prickly elf obliged. "You flatter me, Miss Suzui. They were baked in Cephilia's oven. That is the secret ingredient."

"If it avoids another 'incident,' fatten the fox up on sweets," Cephilia said. "Because another such incident will not be tolerated, young lady. I expect you, more than anyone else here, to behave yourself out there. Understand?," she added, her cold blue gaze burning into the fox-girl between bites. But it was hard to be menacing while nibbling on a biscuit, so she swiftly finished it and dusted her hands, before addressing the group as a whole:

"Speaking of which, I think I will write to that old acquaintance of mine. Not as a guide, but as an observer," she said. "And don't worry, Miss Schuerer, she won't hold your hand. Unlike my horned friend here, compassion is not in her nature. If she agrees --and, I'll be honest here, that's a pretty big 'if'-- she will only do so to have a laugh at your ineptitude or mop up what's left of you, should you fail. Mr. Bermille is putting a lot of faith in you all. But I am not a woman of blind faith and I'll sleep better knowing there is a contingency plan in place, for your sake, as well as Oyten's.

After a small pause, she rested her hands on her hips and nodded to the door. "You got lucky in the sewers. Now, go forth and prove me wrong."

The Ovil-ken raised his hand towards her. That seemed to indicate he accepted her apology. Or it was unwanted. Either way, he seemed to be fine with it and it ended there with no more discussion. Two veteran Kriegslöwen came in, and just like their first day, a basket of cookies was brought. Just like before, the small snake girl gently glided towards the basket, and silently, without much fanfare, took one for herself.

As Hyss quietly munched on her cookie beneath her hood, she didn't have anything further to add to the discussion. Still, her ears perked up when she heard "Time is money" from the Caskarieth. This was the first time in awhile she was impressed with her. Hyss thoroughly agreed with that sentiment, finding herself drawn to the phrase, taking it to mean 'might as well be as efficient as possible'. Which was exactly how Hyss thought -- and wanted to be, moving forward. So she appreciated it when Cephilia spoke up and made this idea clear to all.

While it made sense to use the best means for travel, and simply "walking" sounded like a dumb waste of time, Hyss was not a stranger to walking. As she had made her way through this country she had needed to use all manner of ways of travel. Which meant she had often been on foot, as she had lacked funds. Hiking over rough terrain, and through dense foliage was something she had been forced to do. She wouldn't claim she liked it, or was even good at it, but she had to do it to survive. And she made it this far, so Hyss was somewhat proud of that fact. -Not that anyone knew she was a little proud snek under her hood.

Then Cephilia just had to add on a bit more. And little Hyss found herself frowning as she chewed once again. Why did their senior Cephilia have to be this way? She was an amazing woman of talent. She made these Arcanizers after all. That much meant she was worthy of respect - so Hyss gave her that respect. But she always said such unnecessary things and turned things aggressive. It was not a good look for a senior, nor was it beneficial. Why an 'observer'? The woman literally just spoke about being efficient, even going so far as the guild providing them with travel funds. Why were they so hung up on sending people out on missions without the most they could have? Having a guide or whatever, rather than an observer, would simply benefit the mission, wouldn't it? If killing this monster was so imperative like everyone believed, then why send a bunch of newbies without the best they could have to do so? This mentality really bugged Hyss, and she found herself stewing over it beneath her hood the rest of the way to Oyten.

Thea Schuerer
Location: Kriegslöwe Guildhall, Tylsen
This was unfortunately not the time to enjoy the cookies much herself, though she did pocket a couple in her carrying bag and gave a nod of thanks to Viv as she listened to her comrades, addressing Lucia first; "Edelgarde there is a time and place to be contrarian. I do not dispute ideas simply as they are not my own. In the face of strangers or our betters we should at least attempt to look organized, unified and dignified. We will have hours of time to debate, do not take my words as silencing you. You all can go at one another when we are out of ear and eyeshot with whatever form of debate or comments you wish." Rather knowingly the knight had used the other's last name rather than call her Lucia to set her own thoughts of the matter before in a softer tone adding into her reply,

"Lucia if we cannot present even a basic front to others then why should they hold confidence in us at all? That goes for the rest of you as well."

Even if bannermen hated one another they did not bicker in front of their liege. Such was unbecoming of a soldier and a professional, this was why even though her faith screamed to take the relic quest she did not trust any of her present company save Risax and maybe Thal to not cause some form of issue or show disrespect to the Priests. And honestly, she did not want to deal with a major incident, more so with the heathen snake in their ranks if she said the same words to them as she did Thea then not even the guild could protect her.

Next pretty much all of them had some dislike, funny look or comment to make about the mere suggestion of walking. Looking at a few of them blankly a brief scowl of contempt was upon her face as she thought back to something her father once said, "Not all troops can be held to the same standard, various forces the Lords can summon, or the Main Army fields differ in quality, ability and tactics. Do not chide your Bowmen for not keeping pace with Cavalry or get over eager in movement pace."

With that in mind, she had people from all aspects of life and with it being a couple days, Cephilia did have a point, while she could keep up such a pace the rest might could not and it would damage the morale to force march it. Falco and Cephilia additionally chimed in, raising some reasonable points, and a point of view that was lost on herself if not some of the rest, or so she hoped some of the rest. That being that time was money, she had been thinking of this a bit too much as a soldier rather than an adventurer, she did not have the family armory or the friendly town blacksmith to do repairs without asking for much in way of payment. The faster they got done then the more work they could do, but she would not tolerate sloppiness or doing a half assed job.

"Fair points. I traveled here by way of the great river and then via foot. I had not factored in the expedient nature this would need to be done so much as the objective. Nor will I profess to know about the Land Ferry. If it as your endorsement promotes them, then we would be foolish to not take it or to do so in the future." At mention of the incident, Thea's jaw seems to tighten as she takes on a steely eyed stare at the cause of said incident. "Oh, don't worry, I plan to keep a close eye on that." As the conversation went onwards, Thea found some of the words of Cephilia to be rather trying, she could only guess how the more combative personalities in her group would think of it.
And honestly, she didn't want to know. "An observer is within the rights of the guild and this mission was assigned to us, though we are missing a few... there are a few problems, aye. But we must learn them sooner or later."

Closing her eyes briefly at that, she softens her expression and opens them again as the woman mentioned her opinions on them and luck, the same resolve as before was in those red eyes. "Then we must not fail, Miss Valdergeuse." While she was no longer a knight and had taken care to try and adjust for this life, some habits died hard. bringing up her right gauntlet to bear across her breastplate a clank of metal on metal sounds off as Thea pivots on her heel. "We leave within the hour if possible, For Oyten at speed." She said to the rest and gives a nod to the other seniors in parting. She was not going to stay and watch what she expected to come from some in the group, more so in regards to her first words. If they did so it would not be in front of the bosses. For now they needed to get supplies for a couple or three days at most and find a Land Ferry willing, able and reputable enough to do the job, for that as she exited the door she held a hand up for Falco to come closer. Speaking as she did so in hope he did come along, either ways now she looked foolish talking to the air as she went out of the guild building.

"I can accompany as well, unless you rather I not, but I would like for you and Risax to focus on learning of a few good companies, ones you would deem honest as far as merchants go. Make sure the trip is both ways. For now we stay around the Western district to get all we need and meet up at some sort of central location once we've did as needed. You know of any? If anyone else had issues with what she said then here is the place, in the open streets of the city or closed shops to bring them out. Provided it doesn't become a fight."

A crooked smile curled the corners of Falco's lips as the Clockwork Witch delivered her opinion of them and promptly dismised them from her presence, as if she somehow owned this room. Maybe she did? The specifics of the Guild's hierarchy still eluded him, though he doubted even she wielded such power. Although he respected her rank, this was not the military. They were not obligated to obey.

Fortunately, Falco never needed to be reminded of this. People were just people, be they kings or paupers, S Rank or F. This singular thought ran laps through his mind as he observed the Witch.

"Well met, Schuerer," Cephilia said, with a polite nod to the dutiful knight. The moment their interaction was complete, Falco knew he was up.

"Oh, Cephilia. My dear, sweet, Cephilia, why must you harden your heart so?" he poetically crooned, with a slow lamentable shake of his head as he rose and approached the front of the room, where the elf and her ilk stood. Thea, her resolve steeled by the Caskarieth's words, had already saluted and made for the door. Clearly, she was not of the same mind as he.

"Door or window, Cauphix? How shall I remove you from my sight?" Cephilia said... which was strange, because the room had no windows. Perhaps she intended to make one, just for him. With enough force, anything is possible.

"It truly is quite sad when a beautiful, intelligent, successful, mature woman-"

"Get to the point," she interrupted.

"-Can't come to terms with her true feelings," Falco teased, as he squared up with her and stared into those icy blue eyes. He felt a connection there... sort of like how a slap 'connects' with a man's face. She was neither amused, nor flattered, but when had that ever stopped him? "Just admit you adore us. Some might even say, you love us. Best damn recruits you ever seen. I know you know we got this in the bag, Cece, so drop the act. It's not cute."

"'Cece?'" Her brows drooped, clearly bored by this imbecillic routine: "Talk is cheap and this is only your second worthwhile endeavor, Cauphix. Even a broken clock is right twice a day," she said, before pointing to the exit. "Prove. It. Or are you so foolish you cannot see when a door has been opened to you?"

"Challenge accepted. Have my reward ready when we get back."

"I'm not the client this time, you dolt."

"Riiiight, right. That's what they all say." With a small chuckle, Falco bowed and swaggered toward the door. "Mr-Receptionist-Guy, thanks for throwin' us a bone. And V... stay beautiful," he said with a snap of his fingers, making the centaur smile. The was always smiling, but he felt this one was specifically for him. Anyway, with the goodbyes out of the way, Falco bowed and slipped through the door, nearly colliding with Thea's back.

The she-knight was in the middle of delivering orders. Something about going with Risax to charter a land ferry? "Y-yessir! Ma'am! I'm on it!" Falco said with a stiff salute. Despite his previous display, he was all business now and switched gears almost instantly. Thea was in charge. Not only did he want to impress her, he didn't want any fuck-ups to ruin her reputation. Half these folks already think I'm a joke, I can't have 'em thinking Thea is too, he reasoned as he caught up and walked beside her.

"I know a guy. If his schedule's open, this'll be easy," he said with a thumb's up before reaching for his coinpurse. "Since you're headed for the market, can you... pick up some stuff for me? Basics, ya know. I don't really travel much, so... whatever you think is necessary," he said, pressing a silver feln into her gauntleted hand. He had never trusted anyone with this much money, but if you can't trust a knight, what is the world coming to? Besides, I know where you live.

Before she could refuse or object, Falco quickly darted away to hail the arachnid.

Lucia believed the issue to be done with as she enjoyed her cookie, wondering what it was that the wolf believed was an ingredient. The noble had never heard of such additive as the aphro-something-or-another. Was it some concoction from where the wolf originated? Lucia couldn't help but be worried as to what it was, if that were the case, and even more about if it was in the cookies. Suddenly, the Caskarieth didn't have such a sweet tooth. However, fortunate or not, Thea had seen fit to chastise her.

The young noble narrowed her eye in response with a scowl. It was likely ironic, that the knight was more worried about public appearance than the one raised to consider it at all times, though perhaps that was exactly the reason their leader's words struck discord with her.

"Schuerer, I was raised in public appearance. Any fronts uplifted are a cause of concern and distrust, not faith. Or at least, they should be," Lucia remarked in turn. She knew how to play a part or hold her tongue. However, such games had tugged at her by this point. There was only one such act that she still adorned, and as far as they all knew, there were none. "Nonetheless, you are the leader, so I will be sure to petition you to speak in the future."

Shutting her eye, the woman took another bite of the cookie, her mistrust forgotten for the moment, only to reopen it when Falco began—doing what Falco did, but to Cephilia. It would be amusing, bathing in their elder's annoyance, were Lucia not already irked herself. Though, at least the two nobles could agree on the walking. The silver-haired one was no stranger to a little exercise, however to travel such a distance when one could relax on a comfy ferry or carriage...

Ah, I miss Alfonse...

Frowning a bit, Lucia let out a silent sigh at that. If only she could have continued to have him as a chauffer, but he was a servant of the Edelgarde house, and he certainly didn't sign up for this.

Lucia tuned back in to hear of Cephilia's "guide", if you could call them that. They sounded as sadistic as the blonde woman herself.

A contingency plan to mop up what's left of us indeed...

The young noble could only hope that this spectator would not send them into a disgusting swamp to cleanse it of disgusting vermin. Regardless, Thea had signaled their leave and Lucia stood up with a light huff. As she passed the elder Caskerieth, the younger eyed them briefly. "Gladly," She remarked, alluding to the prospect of proving that their first venture wasn't fortune alone.

She could not even enjoy Falco annoying the woman for a second time. Though Lucia wasn't sure she agreed with his perception of her. Regardless, they were gone from the room now and off to find transport. Falco seemed to know one. Lucia, in this regard, was rather useless given her somewhat spoiled upbringing.

"Well, save for if anyone has specific need of me, I will gather some supplies and ready myself for departure. You all know where to find me."

Listening to the words of Lucia, Thea did not give a reply as there was little point in it here and now, she doubted the Caskerieth would be so willing to speak in the here and now. She would correct all of this on the ride, or at least explain herself more. She did not care if they spoke, it was just in the how and where and she doubted only Lucia took offense to it. Thinking back, it seemed Falco had some parting words for Cephilia, but that one could not be so easily stopped. In truth she was a bit worried about all of this and she had doubts.

She had rather taken a liking to Lucia as a friend and comrade in arms, so having her cross with her made the Knight internally sigh, but there was nothing to be done about it here and now and even if she had doubts, she could not show them. This would be her first time leading, actually leading others and doubts she found when from a commander would worm it's way into the lower ranks, damaging morale and causing delays in carrying out actions or holding fast to one anothers backs. They had no idea what the best was but the fact it was meant as a stand in for their possibility of promotion was enough to tell her it was not too minor, yet not too major. Or so she hoped, it was yet another hazing ritual to make one loyal to their guildmates and the guild as a whole. One that could prove dangerous.

And with that in mind she had a duty to perform. Before her thoughts could wonder elsewhere Falco had proven to be on her heels rather quickly and gave some sort of attempt at a salute, she almost ventured a smile at that, it didn't suit him at all. Though it seemed she was correct in trusting this to him and the Merchant. What was that her grandfather and father would say? Don't send a stonemason to do a carpenter's job.

With that in mind she was a little surprised when he pushed a coin into her hand, asking for her to take care of his supplies, before she could say anything he was off an running off to Risax, or so she assumed. She has no reason to refuse, looking at what he had given her it was one silver and he asked for what she seen as necessary. Thinking about it she didn't see this all taking more than three, four days at worst. If it took more than that, with the money they had on hand, well most of them would be in trouble she assumed. Walking along the shops she gets supplies for the two of them, consisting of a water skin for Falco, some heavy or knight's bread, dried nuts and fruit, cheese, dried beef and a small helping of pesto spread. In addition, she picked up some hygienic items, though in all none of the items were more than enough to last more than three days, while she assumed that Oyten would give them some sort of food there, it was a good idea to bring their own provided they did not, or this took a day longer.

Other than this she did consider getting him a poncho or cloak, but there was not enough to cover that, splitting the costs between them she adds the change to a simple sack that would contain his share of the items. She also considered getting him some flint and steel or a utility knife but there was no need for either for what should be a day of hunting and fighting. If it ended up being longer they would have to buy additional supplies from the town or forage.

She wondered if any of the rest needed help, well if they did she would help them too. Picking a statue of some Lord or King, it was easy enough to spot in this portion of the market district and would make for a natural focal point. For now she would wait and think how to get the elf back in good spirits.

Arien Bermille
Location: Kriegslöwe Guildhall, Tylsen

Once the room was clear of the newly assembled team, Arien immediately began to clean up. He rearranged the chairs, returned the fixtures to their standard setup, and retrieved the materials he brought alongside the quest documents. When he was done, he gave a nod of respect and acknowledgment to the two other Kriegslöwen in the room, Vivienne and Cephilia.

"Miss Vivienne. Miss Cephilia.", he uttered. "I shall be off to prepare for the new recruits and their initiation ceremony. Worry not, I will keep them from disturbing your work."

Without waiting for a response, Arien left the room and headed to the reception desk, where a different individual stood, a bespectacled, horned beastfolk, taking the role of the receptionist. He engaged in a small chat with the said person and organized the documents with their aid. It did not take long for the unclaimed requests to return where they were supposed to be found - buried in midst of many other quests on the quest board.

After a short while, Arien left the receptionist a set of instructions regarding the arrival of certain individuals, whose names were listed on a small paper atop the lower reception desk, alongside several documents pertaining to some of the listed names.

Departures
Location: Tylsen, East Side
Time: Mid-Morning

Within an hour, most of the party had gathered. Their bags were packed, their gear collected. Falco and RIsax were the last to arrive, accompanied by a wiry, bespectacled man in a suit, who introduced himself as a representative from their chosen landferry company. The group were led to Tylsen's east end, where their carriage awaited.

Along the way, he explained the basics of land ferry travel, for the uninitiated, and fielded any questions. Most of it was fairly common sense stuff: Keep all limbs inside the vehicle. The only exception is motion sickness. "Not on my floor, you don't," he said, wagging a finger at them. The safe-lights along the road would keep most beasts away, but if anything comes near, leave it alone. No hero stuff, save it for Oyten. Don't bother the drivers. Don't mess with anything. Don't mind any strange noises, it's just manatech doing what manatech does. No, it's not broken, it's supposed to sound like that. Etcetera. Etcetera....

The spokesman reached the end of his rehearsed spiel just as they arrived at a large warehouse, where their landferry awaited. It looked no different from an ordinary carriage, such as what a lord or lady might own, but considerably larger, able to seat about twenty at capacity. Dark oak walls. Large, curtained windows. Plush seating, riding on springs. The small group of recruits would have ample space to stretch out and make themselves comfortable for the long journey. Some of the seats had been removed or shifted around, not only to accomodate the group's largest members, but to provide room for their gear and bedding, should they chose to sleep on the journey. The entire vehicle rode on ironclad wooden wheels, high enough to roll over the roughest terrain, and driven by gears and chains, which disappeared beneath its floor, where its manatech heart and assorted machinery were hidden.

A pair of durgerai were busy removing one last bench seat from the machine. The two dwarves expertly balanced the heavy furniture betwen themselves as they descended from the land ferry. Meanwhile a third was busy puffing a cigar as he pumped liquid veracite into a pair of saddle tanks beneath the vehicle, whistling a tune to himself as the machine chugged the luminous blue fluid. When he spied the recruits, he smiled and waved.

"That's Grog, your lead driver," the spokesman said. "The other two are Gary and Greg. Nice guys. Don't ask. They're brothers, or something. Well, two of 'em are... I forget which two. Anyway, one last thing before you board: we stop for nothing. You've got the ferry all to yourselves and, as requested," he nodded to Risax and Falco, "It's round trip. The crew's been instructed to wait up to five days, if they have to, but please be expedient. There isn't much work for us in Oyten, small town that it is, so I hope your animal hunt goes off without a hitch."

"Beast," Falco corrected.

"Beast? Animal? Same difference," the man said. "Point is, don't dawdle. Oh, that reminds me: corpse transport costs extra. Guild's footing the bill, but still... we keep it classy here. This ain't a meat wagon," he shrugged. "You seem like nice folks, so come home warm, okay."

A half hour later, the land ferry clattered out of Tylsen, loaded with the six F-Rank Kriegslowen and their gear. They spread out across the carriage's spacious interior with the knowledge that this box of wood and glass would be their home for nearly the next twenty-four hours. Some kept their eyes glued to the windows, watching the landscape speed by. Others, busied themselves with reading or fiddling with their tools and weapons.

The vehicle accelerated until it was moving at a brisk pace, slightly faster than a horse at full gallop. But, unlike a horse, it was able to keep this pace indefinitely. 'We stop for nothing,' the spokesman had said. The manatech engine and assorted running gear had a distinct sound, a low, rhythmic hum, accompanied by the melodic groaning of gears and drive chains somewhere below their feet. While it might be bothersome at first, it slowly became harmless ambience, a mechanical lullaby lulling them to sleep, played over the backdrop of creaking springs and earth churned beneath the wheels. The faster they traveled, the smoother the ride became, though the crewmen warned they might need to slow down once they neared Oyten, where the paths were less well-maintained. Ruts and mud would become an issue there.

"Trip should be 'bout 18 to 20 hours," Grog explained to anyone willing to listen, still puffing his cigar. He sat at the head of the carriage, guiding the ferry using a large captain's wheel, and controlled the speed via a series of levers and pull handles, most of which he never needed to touch. The other two dwarves, Gary and Greg, sat nearby, one thumbing through a technical manual as if it were light reading, while the other chewed jerky and watched the trees pass by, with a crossbow in his lap. Although a land ferry could easily outrun most common bandits, it was always wise to travel prepared.

"Could go faster, but I don't think gettin' there in the middle o' the night'll do ya any good," Grog went on to say. "Small town, mostly loggers and carpenters. If we get our pace right, we ought ta be pullin' in near dawn."

"You heard about that ferry to Krafen?" Gary said, glancing up from his reading. "The one that got there in half-time? If we had somethin' like that, we'd be in Oyten by sundown. Manatech is gettin' crazier everyday."

"Lies. Can't no ferry move that fast," Greg commented, his sharp eyes surveying the landscape while he nursed the crossbow.

"It's in the papers," Gary said, pulling a rolled up newspaper from beneath his seat and offering it to the other dwarf. "Check the front page, brother: 'Unest in The Church,' 'Veracite Trafficking on the Rise,' and, oh look RIGHT HERE, 'Miraculous Land Ferry Arrives in Krafen,'" he said, jabbing at the headlines with his thick, calloused finger.

"Quit readin' that garbage. It's royal propaganda," Greg retorted. "Ya heard about Valgem, right? They got their rail system runnin', so Raelgard's gotta say something to make it look like we ain't fallin' behind. Propaganda, man, and you fell for it."

"Nah, it's true. I know a guy who was there. World's changin, Greg," Gary said, but the other dwarf just scoffed and continued his reconnaisance.

"Meh, I'd take a land ferry o'er a train anyday," Grog muttered. "Rails are for mine carts and I seen enough o' those to last a lifetime. No thanks, bruddah."

Location: A small village, north of the Oytenrand Woods
Time: Late Afternoon

A courier sprinted down a muddy street, tightly pinching a letter between the fingers of his gloved hand. He skidded to a halt on the doorstep of a blacksmith's shop, only briefly pausing to check the weathered sign beside its door: Blake's Smithy. Whether that was a bad pun or the unfortunate owner's actual name, he had no idea. Regardless, the courier pushed inside, without delay.

Cramped and dimly lit, the shop's interior smelled of old iron, charred wood, and spent coal. Racks displayed the merchandise, mostly household supplies, such as cookware and cutlery. But axes, hatchets, and splitting wedges seemed to be this smith's specialty, likely due to the local logging industry.

The shop's namesake was seated behind a tall counter. A broad shouldered, uncomfortably large man, built like a wall. A clean, button-up shirt was stretched over his giant frame. He calmly polished an axe while awaiting customers. The aggressive hammering of steel could be heard elsewhere in the shop, likely an apprentice at work in one of the backrooms.

As the courier entered, the giant glanced up from his work. "Oi, welcome," the enormous blacksmith bellowed. "What can I do ya for, lad?"

"C-correspondence from Tylsen. A strange blue bird brought it just now," the young lad said, clearing his throat before wagging the wax-sealed envelope. "Addressed to a Miss... Xhe... Xhenz... Shenz..." he squinted at the page.

A low, guttural laugh echoed from the blacksmith's cavernous chest. "Sen! You got mail!"

"I'M BUSY!!!! TELL 'EM TO FUCK OFF!!!!" a husky female voice screeched. The hammering did not stop. "I don't owe nobody no money!"

The smith sighed. "QUIT HOLLERN' THROUGH MY SHOP!! IT'S FROM TYLSEN!! PROBABLY THE GUILD!!"

"The Guild? She's a Kriegslowen?" the courier said, his eyes widening. "Wow, a real adventurer..."

"DID THEY USE MY WHOLE NAME!!!?" Sen shouted back.

"YES!!!! DAMMIT, WOMAN, GET IN HERE!!!!" the smith barked at her, before lowering his voice and speaking to the boy: "It's... complicated. She's on, uhhhh, medical leave... Sort of... It's complicated."

"THEY AIN"T NO FRIEND OF MINE!! FUCK 'EM!!" Sen shouted back once more.

The smith smiled down at the courier as he rose from his seat. "One moment, lad. I'll be back," he said before calmly lumbering toward the back of the shop, where he disappeared through a curtained doorway. The boy stood in confused silence, listening to the whispered voices, but couldn't make out what was being said. A few awkward seconds passed before the hammering finally stopped. Shortly afterward, the curtains parted and a Syrieth woman emerged. Her tall, lithe body was covered in old battle scars, as well as burns and soot from long hours at the forge. She appeared to be wearing an ill-sized blacksmith's apron --and not much else-- and glared at him from beneath her wild mane of matted hair with the ferocity and savage confidence of a cornered animal.

The friendly blacksmith was no longer the scariest person in the room. The coruier took half a step back as she approached, but the elf merely scoffed and snatched the letter from him. "Don't flinch. Grow a pair, kid, I ain't gonna bite you," she said, before tearing open the letter. The large blacksmith stood nearby, arms crossed, waiting patiently as her eyes darted across the page.

"Well... what's it say?" he asked after she said nothing for over a minute. "Good news? Bad?"

"Fuck if I know. I can't read this shit," Sen said. "She's using big words again. You know I hate that."

He swiftly intervened before she could crumple up the letter and toss it. The blacksmith slowly shook his head at her before looking to the page. He began to read, silently.

"Care to share?" Sen said. "It ain't addressed to you, ya know."

"Oh, I will. I'm just 'pre-reading' it first. Don't want you to blow up and start breaking stuff," the man said as he neared the end of the page.

"Heh, he know me too well," Sen said with a laugh, elbowing the courier. "Want some tea or something, kid? Hard liquor?" she looked him up and down. "Soft liquor?"

"N-nah, I'm good," the boy said sheepishly.

"You sure? C'mon, I don't drink no more, but it's fun watchin' other folks get hammered... pun intended."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! What's this?" the blacksmith said, his eyes widening as he reached the end of the letter. "It's from Cephilia Valdergeuse. The Cephilia Valdergeuse!"

"Yeah, so? Tylsen's the closest major guildhall, so I guess the nosy bitch took it upon herself to keep tabs on me. It ain't personal."

"But does she know?"

"That's on a 'need to know' basis and she don't fuckin' need to know," Sen said, folding her arms. "Doubt she'd care anyway, so fuck it."

"You said you were just small time. 'They won't miss me if I take a year off.' That's what you said. Now you're getting letters from one of the guild's finest..."

"'Guild's finest?' You gonna mail your lips or go to Tylsen to kiss her ass in person?" Sen cackled with laughter. "Look, she a fake ass, wannabe guildmaster. I wonder if she still wears them dragon horns, like she was the only one there," she scoffed. "We s'posed to be pen pals now, 'cuz we poked an angry lizard together? Friends don't use my full name, bud. She's just 'managing assets.' That's all I am to her. Lemme guess, something's poppin' off nearby and she knows I'm closest."

The blacksmith nodded: "Some F-Ranks are gonna be hunting a beast in Oytenrand. She wants you to evaluate them."

"Evaluate!? So, I don't even get to.... oh, fuck this," Sen said. "Aye, messenger boy, write this down: 'Dear, Cephilia. Suck my di-'"

"She's paying four gold!" the blacksmith said. "Four gold to 'observe and report.'"

"Four gold to babysit? Well, damn, I been doing that for free," Sen laughed, slapping the large man on the shoulder. "You shoulda led with that!" Her demeanor suddenly brightened. "C'mon. Read it to me. Details, details! I wanna know how best to serve the guild's finest."

Location: Approaching the Oytenrand Woods
Time: Pre-dawn, the next morning

The day wore on. Early morning gave way to the oppressive heat of mid-afternoon. Some travelers opened the windows to let a light breeze in. Others drew some of the curtains shut, to provide some welcomed shade. Some napped. Some ate meals.

They traveled due north from Tylsen, keeping to a hard-packed trail for many hours before turning onto a slightly less-used trails, moving northwesterly. As dusk neared, the air had noticeably changed, becoming thick with humidity. The rolling hills and plains of Raelgard's hinterlands slowly transformed into sparse trees and, at last dense forests, which clung to the road's north side.

Their guides explained that this was merely one stretch of the Oytenrand Woods, a nigh-impassible rainforest, which partially encircles the town of Oyten, which lay further west. Various camps and tiny villages were dotted throughout, though most were little more than temporary shelter for hunters and loggers. In places, thin trickles of smoke could be seen billowing from deep within the wall of trees.

As night fell, the dwarves activated the ferry's manatech lanterns, providing narrow beams of light for the road ahead. Behind them lay total darkness. To their left, rolling hills, sparse trees, marshes, and bogs, shrouded in heavy mists. To their right, only the eerie abyss of trees, from which emanated the ocasional animal call. A wolf's howl. The hooting of owls. The cawing of exotic birds.

It did not look very inviting, especially at night.

Sometime later, long into the night, when the sliver of a moon sat high upon wispy clouds in a blanket of stars, the dwarves changed drivers for the last time. Gary, who had been guiding the landferry for hours, curled up beneath a blanket and Grog took over for what would be the final leg of their journey, yawning and nursing a thermos of cold coffee as he settled into the driver's seat and took the wheel.

"We got 'bout an hour to go, folks, maybe less if this damn mud eases up. Almost dawn, too," he said to anyone still awake behind him. The ferry had been slogging through rutted trails and reddish mud, thick as clay, for quite some time now. Right on queue, the first patters of rain began to hit the carriage's roof. Within a minute, a torrential downpour began.

"Well... damn," the dwarf grumbled, though the ferry soldiered on, undeterred by the weather.

Location: Kriegslöwe Guildhall, Tylsen

The Kriegsöwe Guildhall. A large building that can be found within the town square. To many, this is a place to submit errands and requests, a place to hire those who are willing and those who seek pay in the form of Feln or glory. To some, it is a place where they can seek help or aid. To others, it is a hive of hero-wannabes and eccentrics. However, to a select few, this is the place where their fateful journey begins.

This three-storied establishment, crafted with wood and stone, and its opened doors would be their first milestone in a timeless trek to their destinies. Several stained glass windows were to its sides, each depicting an image of ancient heroes and legends. Above its entrance laid a painted depiction of the guild's crest - a lion bearing a compass within its opened jaw.

The interior was just as grand, perhaps even a tad bit more decorated than the exterior. A large hall filled with rows upon rows of wooden benches and chairs, all facing a large reception desk at the far center of the main area, enshrined by two curved staircases - one that led to the upper floors of the building, where the guild's offices and dormitories were located, as the other led to the lower floors of the building, where the guild's vaults and archives were laid. Beyond the reception desk were several corridors that led to other facilities of the guild, including its meeting rooms. Perpendicular to the reception desk was the quest board - a large wooden board attached to the walls of the guild, with countless papers and documents pinned to its surface.

A great number of Manatech lamps were installed on the guildhall's premises, illuminating the building's interior. Numerous campaign and expedition banners were hung upon the walls, accompanied by countless trophies acquired by the active and retired members of the guild - ranging from paintings of the victorious aftermath of a battle to the large and imposing claw from a slain dragon. The Tylsen branch's achievements were displayed all around the main hall, allowing the old to reminisce and the new to be inspired.

It is the morning of 8th day of the 3rd month, 422 AC. At this time of day, it is usually expected for people to start accumulating within the main hall. Though there are indeed a fair amount of people gathered within the guildhall's premises, it was far less than the regular amount. There were a few that occupied the seats at the main hall, and even fewer who roamed about in its vicinity. The Kriegslöwe in the area were even less - perhaps many of them were already in the middle of doing a quest, or maybe they simply knew about the arriving individuals and opted not to involve themselves with yet another batch of fresh faces.

A small, blue avian was perched on top of the reception desk. Manning this station was a bespectacled, horned beastfolk, who would take notice of the newly arriving individuals, and should they be in accord with the list given to her - she would call upon their attention, and send a few words to them.

"Please take a seat.", she would say audibly with her slightly silky voice. "A Kriegslöwe will arrive shortly to attend to you."

The beastfolk, then, would give the small bird a soft tap - who would then respond with a cheerful chirp before flying off, presumably to fetch the said Kriegslöwe.

A ray of sunshine floated into the master bedroom, illuminating a rather quaint bed in complete disarray. Covers and sheets thrown in every direction, some hanging off the bed were a highlight of this scene. Holding a pillow like a large stuffed toy laid the sole occupant of this large bed fit for two and a half people to sleep comfortably. A little drool escaped her mouth as soft snore-like breathing escaped her lips. A white fluffy tail, matted and tangled, thumped against the bed occassionally, sending bits of white fur flying. Two equally snow white wolf ears twitched in response to the dreams as well, though a lot less violently. This scene played out for only a little while after the sunrise as the nose of the beastfolk twitched, intaking air. Another sniff occurred as Lupa lazily opened her eyes and gave a yawn, stretching out in all directions as her slightly prominent fangs poked out, shining like ivory in the morning sun.

After the stretch she stared at the ceiling before giving another sniff. Ah, so that's what woke her up, the smell of food. She smiled and proceeded to roll off the bed, with as noticeable thunk which was heard downstairs by the cooker of said dinner.

Ellen gave a content sigh as she slipped the wooden spatula under the egg and gave a simple flip. Once it was turned over she grabbed the seasoning and sprinkled it over the backside. Steps sounded from the direction of the stairs, then they drew closer to the kitchen where she turned around to see Lupa, giving a yawn as she walked in with her pajamas on. Her hair and fur were also a mess, but that was her master in the mornings.

"Good morning, Miss Lupa. Did the smell wake you up?"

"Mmm, yes it did," she answered, taking in a long whiff. After that, she could immediately tell what was being made. "Ah, eggs, sausage, and toast. I also smell some black tea brewing in the kettle."

"Your nose is as sharp as ever, miss."

Lupa rubbed the back of her head and gave a giggle with her signature bright smile. Ah, Ellen sure enjoyed that smile. It made working for the miss so rewarding at times. She gave herself a small smile and continued her work on the breakfast. Footsteps sounded along with the drag of a chair. She lifted the lid of the sausage which was sitting in a small layer of cheap beer to cook it evenly and add flavor, so she checked the oven itself for the toast, and put on oven-mits to protect her hands. She pulled the arranged slices of bread out and began arranging Lupa's plate, setting the egg down last. Now that it was done, all she needed was the tea, which she poured into a cup. She placed two small sugar cubes in it, and then she walked her way to the table where the beastfolk's white tail was happily wagging like a puppy at the sight.

Upon receiving the plate, Lupa calsped her hands together and muttered her daily prayer. Ellen joined in silently, clasping her own hands and closing her eyes. After the prayer, butter was spread on bread and her master wasted no time diving into her food with gusto. Ellen returned to the kitchen and prepared herself a small plate of food consisting mostly of some bread and the homemade sausage. She poured herself a cup and returned to find Lupa had already finished the meal.

"Ah, that was delicious. Fantastic as usual," she praised, earning a lock of hair being preened by Ellen as she flushed lightly and looked away, muttering a nervous, halfhearted thanks. This earned a small giggle from Lupa, then she stood up from her chair. "Now then, I have a big day today, so take care of yourself while I'm gone. I'm going to go get ready."

"If you'd like, Miss Lupa, I could h-"

"Ellen, we've talked about this. I can dress myself just fine. Now, treat yourself to some of your food, you deserve it," Lupa rebuked, leading to Ellen sitting down as she swiftly made her way upstairs. Once she was in her room, first business was the hair and fur, primarily the tail. She spent a good deal of time brushing shed out shed before she decided to tackle the hair, which was much less complicated. Once that was finished, she stripped off her pajamas and began working on replacing them with her uniform. After struggling with the buttons near the top a little, she pulled the trousers out and dipped a leg in each hole. After that, the fluffy tip of her tail entered into view and she swiftly grabbed it, giving a playful, "Gotcha~" before leading the mass of fluff to the hole in the back and shoving the tip through. She then grabbed the tip and shivered a little as she pulled it through, fur being pushed the wrong way and feeling as though she had just woken up, based on the feeling of her fur alone. This led to stage two of grooming the tail which was moisturizing and combing it until it was at peak fluffiness and cleanliness, smooth as silk and shiny as a pearl, just how she liked it.

Last was her hat, and she left her bedroom to move downstairs where she saw Ellen gingerly and gracefully eating her food. They gave each other a brief wave and smile before she was off to the cellar. In the cellar and along one of the walls was a weapon rack. She immediately picked out a regal rapier and strapped it to her belt on the left side. Then she took a simple dagger and strapped it to her right, silently hoping she would not have to use it.

After that, she emerged and walked for the door, turning around to see Ellen in the dining room and lifted her hand up, "I'm off, wish me luck."

"May you have a wonderful day, Miss Lupa."

"You too Ellen."

The door shut and Lupa made her journey to the Kriegslöwe branch office, brightly greeting anyone who she recognized or greeting her along the way.

Upon arrival, she could tell it was just a wee bit less busier than usual. After all, it wasn't her first time in the guildhall. As a guard, she had to question guild members about crime scenes they had been witness too, or other business she wouldn't bother thinking of now. Thankfully, she was here today for her initiation. She was excited, really, about joining the Kriegslöwe guild in Tylsen. She wanted to do good, but her time in the city guard had come to an end, and thus her time in the military. As the guard was a branch of military, her discharge had left her without recourse other than finding work in the guild, but that wasn't a bad thing. She often saw guildsmen at work and wondered what it would be like to be among their ranks. Well, today was the day to find out.

She walked up to the reception desk and gave a cheerful greeting, "Hello, I'm Lupa. I'm here for an appointment regarding my initiation."

"Please take a seat.", she said audibly with her slightly silky voice. "A Kriegslöwe will arrive shortly to attend to you."

She took a seat as instructed and watched in fascination as the bird flew away for fetch someone. Now, all that was left was to wait. As she did so, Lupa watched the door to see if anyone else would come in. Were there others? Had she made a good impression by coming early? She wondered these questions as she waited, eyes on the door to watch the comings and goings for people of interest.

As time passed and the others filed in, time would tick on as Falco would bring them all to a local merchant a man with glasses that didn't seem to know who his own workers even were. Sine glancing at Falco with questioning if not somewhat worried expression she allowed the contract to proceed. She trusted in Falco and Rixas's judgement to now, it would not be correct to second guess them. She knew even less about the dealings of Merchants and these Land Ferries, because someone did not strike her as professional enough wasn't cause to just dismiss them out of hand. Nodding to the trio of Durgerai, she did not expect to see Mountain folk here, but given what all she had seen of this city so far it was the least surprising, it still however even still did surprise her. At least the rules were fairly common sense and not all too restrictive or demanding, though she did arch an eyebrow at the demand to not fight anything that came close to the trails...

A misgiving she soon lost as the speed of the vehicle took her by surprise once they entered open road, while foot was the worst-case scenario, it was surprisingly comfortable if not the sound a little odd to her ears. Listening to the dwarf trio speak about trains and machines even faster than this, she looked at her own sword. Things were indeed changing, but not all change was bad was it? And if that was so, should she stick solely to the school of the Schuerer family or integrate it with something else? Being only a copy of the Family would do but so much, even her father had only gotten so far.. At notion of this and her internal doubt Thea would keep the next couple hours to herself before taking off her armor upper torso and chest armor and gambeson, a blue tunic underneath. A sight that likely surprised many who assumed she wore the armor always.

It seemed to her the further they got away from the city the more humid and hotter it became, uncomfortably so at night. Opening a window on the manatech carriage she eventually went to sleep, a bit earlier than some of the rest, having had a few conversations here and there and snacking on her provisions, she hoped the rest had some as well, for now she would let them all rest and enjoy themselves, well the ones that weren't motion sick. Thea fortunately did not have this problem, being a native of the riverlands, this ride was much smoother than the great river at times. Waking early the next morning, she made a mental note of the manatech lantern, wondering if she should get one of those over her oil lamp.. Or maybe in addition there of, the striker and the fact she could use the oil from it to set a fire made it more valuable in it's utility.. As she pondered the benefits and cons of trading in or supplementing her oil lantern one of the Durgerai was quick to speak up as rain started to pour.

"Thank you Grog. If all goes to plan we'll be out of here by the end of the day.. If not I'll aim to make those five days grace as few as possible. Also tell your fellows sorry when we are gone should I wake them." With that she pondered allowing the rest to sleep, but upon arrival they would have to set out. This job wasn't known for comfort and luxury, well not till later on. Pulling her gambeson back on and clanging her armor, the woman bit by bit was getting suited up, pulling a leather tag through her teeth and the metal clasp that held it firm, her right gauntlet first. Lifting up her sword, if any were asleep they would be awoken now as the hilt banged into the wooden floor. It was with mild amusement she noted the Durgerai were still asleep. The noise not bothering them. That may be clear of some of her comrades, though she would not be surprised if more than a few had not slept at all.

As a few minutes passed she decided to clear up the disagreement or misunderstanding of the group from yesterday. "Hyss, Lucia. You can speak as you wish. Do not take what I said wrong from yesterday, I just would not have us argue in front of those above us or that would hire us. Remember, we represent the guild and we should give them no cause to doubt our ability to do the job. That does not mean I will not listen to opinions and ideas as they are not pleasing to my ears. If you two are awake, otherwise I am just speaking to hear myself, same for the rest of you."

With that she pulls back the curtain and notices the unusual landscape around them. She had never seen such trees or felt such heat. Her armor would be uncomfortable but it was no different than the summers back home. Provided she stayed hydrated, discomfort could be delt with.

Continuing to speak she goes back to putting her armor on, a process that soon made clear why she didn't just casually take it off and why she was awake so early; "Check your gear, make preparations, eat. Or just nap for a little longer. Our first goal is to make contact with the village elder or mayor and to find the observer. We can sleep in when we are finished with the job. This type of forest is alien to me, if any of you have dealt with it before let me know.. Or we'll ask the headman about that too."

If anything the knight was as proper and prudent as always, even in a strange and perhaps hostile land.
