The question if life on Earth was the only one is long answered. All over the universe, different species have been encountering each other- sometimes peacefully, but often hostile. Wars spread all over the universe, especially between two races; humans and Calibans. The reason for all that bad blood was forgotten as time passed, but the hatred never subsided and drove them far enough to kill their own people if they ever encountered the enemy peacefully. The battles between those equally powerful races lasted for what felt like an eternity and their blind hate took tribute after tribute.

Evil begins where your begin to treat people as things.
Terry Pratchett

Yeno Obfonteri
Male
26 years old
From Caliban (21st moon of Uranus)

Calibans
Calibans, Yeno's race, are overall humanoid. They have a build very similar to humans, though slightly elongated (kind of like the Na'vi from Pandora).
But that's where the similarities end-
Calibans have an endo- and a scaly exoskeleton, latter shimmering in shades of blue and green for males, and yellow and white for females. Their eyes are entirely pitch black and to make facial expressions possible, their exoskeleton ends on their chin, so their faces have slightly scaly skin.
Unlike humans, Calibans dont breathe through their nose or mouth; in fact they don't even have lungs, but three operculi on both sides of their necks, that directly feeds oxygen into their blood.
Their forearms are armed with sharp bone blades growing out of their ells.
Their senses are rather average, and while they are incredibly fast and dexterous, they aren't very enduring.

Yeno
Yeno's story is that of many war-born Calibanian children- his father was abroad, fighting in the endless war, while his mother raised him.
However his mother died from a disease called "The Pelt"- basically a parasitic mold fungus that eats it's host alive, when Yeno was 13, after both of them having fought for her life for a long time. Yeno had been infected in the process, and had already lost his lower jaw to The Pelt when he was found and rushed to the best healer on Caliban. His life was saved and his left arm and lower jaw were replaced with Arsenite, a metal-mineral compound typical for Caliban.
Yeno then was raised by Roruba, the healer who had saved him, until he turned 20 (full-age on Caliban) and joined the military to defend his home planet and find his father.

Name: Kaelia Ryser
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Home: The entirety of the Phoenix territory

Biography
Kaelia had it easy growing up. Sure, her family was constantly on the move from planet to planet but only because her parents both served in The Phoenix Space Corps. The Phoenix had a huge territory and outposts everywhere. Being the daughter of two high ranking military officers helped the short run but in the long it caused a lot of tension. Both her parents pushed her to join up when she came of age but at first she hated the thought of being in the military. She wanted to take up teaching like her aunt had done. Though after months of pressure she gave in and joined the military. Once in the military she warmed up to the idea of saving her people. She also liked being trained how to fly and strived to become one of the best pilots in her division.

The LWBC Zenith. The first ship to be brought down in the Endless Wars. It was just a simple battle cruiser making its rounds within the territory of the Phoenix making sure everything was in place. There was no warning, not even a ship in sight from the opposing side. Before anyone could lift a finger to fight back the ship was destroyed, and with no other ships around to see only the faint distress calls gave evidence that a ship was destroyed. Being so far from any posts and so close to the edge of the territory, the ship was never found. Hundreds of families went to bed knowing they would never see their loved ones again and that war was on their doorstep.

Only a few days later did true war break out with battles happening left and right. It never seemed to end for the next couple of years, thousands of people losing their lives and countless ships being destroyed and left to crash into unsuspecting planets. Both sides seeming to have endless supply of ships and soldiers that they would just put up against each other. Though over time the attacks slowed down, maybe one big one every month or so. Still this went on for years, many growing up not knowing a life without the war. Instead of choosing to go into the military, many were just expected to join.

The LWBC Zenith still floated in the vacuum of space hidden from the Phoenix.
Lieutenant Kaelia having caught the flu was placed in a deep freeze until they could get back to the next post. When the attack hit she was on the far side of the ship and the damage she received was a small crack in the cryo tube. Everyone else either died in the explosions or were sucked out into space. She had no idea what had happened or how long she had even been in the tube, and she would only know if she could get out.
The ship was dark as the back up power generators directed all power to the cryo tube. The light of the interface to control the tube was starting to flicker unable to hold this level of power any longer. Everything was still, even the data pads and medical devices that seemed to floating in the room were still. The ship had sat undisturbed since the day it was blown up. Not close enough to any planet, asteroid, or star with any gravity, it stayed put having moved only a bit from its original place. It sat waiting to be found, waiting for Kaelia to be let free.

It was in all possible ways a ship very different from every other one that was ever seen- probably because it was built of the scraps of several different ships it's captain had found all over the universe.
It was long; longer than any normal spaceship; the hulls of old, repaired wrecks were connected by small, flexible tubes, about 4 feet long and just big enough to duck through them into the next part. Five were connected that way, and the first one beared a pair of small wings that kept the whole caravan stable in it's flight.
Other than other ships, it didn't push itself forwards with power engines; at it's front, it beared a small meteor and a tractor ray device, basically pulling itself through space like a horse with a carrot on a stick.
All in all, it had more of a train than a space ship.

If one had been close enough to the ship, they probably would have heard the music inside, volume cranked up to the max as the speakers blared Come a little bit closer from Jay & The Americans.
It was a simple steering wheel, much like those of busses just with an additional part to tilt it up and down for height control, that Yeno was sitting at when he spotted something far away.
The captain slightly narrowed his nightly black eyes.
A ship!
It couldn't have been any better timing. It had been months since Yeno, a former military pilot, now a lowly scrapper, had found a wreck containing any sort of victuals; he was close to starving.

As soon as he was close enough, he put on his space mask that allowed him to survive the oxygen less space and let his rocket boots carry him to a massive hole in the hull of the ship. The first and second part of his train-like ship were for private matters- living, fitness, health unit, yada yada- but the last three were storage rooms for scrap he found on his travels. He didn't earn much that way, but it was enough.
This part of the ship however was too destroyed to find anything useful. However, from how it had looked from the outside, the outer parts of this ship were mostly intact; unique opportunities to find something that he could sell for half a fortune.

He had to climb over loads of debris, but lastly made it into the undestroyed parts- where he immediately froze.
A cryo chamber. Damaged, but still working.
And someone inside.
Yeno had never been someone to hate others without a reason, and the reason why he had been thrown out of the military- well, he hadn't hated humans enough.
He however still occasionally made deals with the military, mostly trades like supplies for food.
Not even giving it a second thought, Yeno pulled his supplies out of the several deep pockets of his black leather coat and disassembled the connection between chamber and ship before he sawed a hole in the anyway useless hull and hauled it over into his ship.
I'm the medical unit of the second ship- only halfway working as almost everything here- he freed the human stranger out of the device and carefully put her down on a hospital bed. She was so tiny compared to his 7'6 ft of height.
After he had stored the chamber in the fourth part, he quickly hurried back to the unconscious stranger and pulled a soft blanket over her for warmth, before he sat down on a stool beside the screen that kept track of her vital signs, watching closely.

Due to the years of being in cryo and the one year limit, Kaelia was stiff as a board. Still her skin was soft, just cold to the touch. Her heart rate the slowest it could go before she would be pronounced dead by someone unknowing that she was in cryo. Normally when someone comes out of cryo they wake up almost immediately, but she was still fast asleep. After an hour her heart rate started to quicken and her brain activity started to pick up.
Kaelia shot up gasping for breath, her body struggling to understand what was going on. She looked around unaware of where she was.
"Carol?" She asked rubbing her head.
Kaelia looked around a bit more until her mind realized it was not on the ship. Her eyes fell on the Caliban sitting next to her. She opened her mouth to speak but there was nothing she could think of to ask that would help her understand what happened.
Last she knew she was aboard the ship complaining about her stomach, then she was put into cryo. There weren't any Calibans on the ship that she knew of. It wasn't that big of a ship but she met new people sometimes.
"Uh, lieutenant Kaelia..." She said holding out her hand.
She figured that she may not know where she was but it was safe to play it nice. People were probably looking for her anyway so she didn't think she'd be there long. "From the seven division of border patrol, ordered by the Phoenix to keep humans safe." She added on. This alien was probably just a confused as she was. She wondered how he even got her out of the tube and manage to lay her down. Maybe the ship was destroyed? That didn't make much sense though, the Phoenix would come looking for her.
"Where am I?" Kaelia asking, thinking that would be a good place to start.

Yeno blinked a couple of times, dubfounded by the surprise of this human encountering him this friendly, not hostile as usually.
Then it hit him.
The position.
The engineering used.
The completely outdated cryo chamber.
This had been an old ship, older then the ones he usually found everywhere around, wrecks blown up in a war as unnecessary as it was brutal.
Shook from his thinking by Kaelia speaking up, he hurried to give her a firm handshake.
"Captain Yeno Obfonteri", he introduced himself formally. "Scavenger all over the universe. You're on my ship and we're currently..."
He had a quick look at a modified watch that now didn't show the time, but his position in space.
"- A couple of miles outside the Phoenix territory."
He slightly bit his lip when he tried to figure how to tell Kaelia what had happened to herself her crew, her ship... Everyone she cared about, everyone she had known... Gone forever.
"Lieutenant", he said carefully. "I found you in a destroyed ship near the border. There was a giant hole in the hull. I don't anyone else survived. I don't know when you were sent into cryo sleep, but... It's the year 2168. You might have missed quite a bit during your time in the cryo tube..."

Kaelia gave him a quick smile when he shook her hand. She wondered how she ended up outside the territory and started to speculate if this man had kidnapped her, but the look on his face told a different story. It was also not very common for the Humans and Calibans to even interact so unless he was human obsessed then she doubted that he kidnapped her.
Her eyebrows pressed together as he started to explain.
Her ship destroyed? Everyone was dead? 50 years in cryo? She had to look away trying to take all of this in. It didn't make any sense. They should've taken her out of cryo if there were under attack or at least had put her in an escape pod.
That was protocol. You can't break protocol because things go wrong if you do. Things like this would happen.
Everyone she knew back home was probably dead at this point. Her parents, oh god her parents. They were pushing 60 when she left for this mission. Maybe her youngest cousins were still alive, but they wouldn't even recognize her.
"This is a joke isn't it? James is probably around the corner trying not to laugh....right?" Kaelia mumbled more to herself. She tried to think of anything that would make this all better. She knew it most likely wasn't a joke, her crew members knew she could barely handle a joke, especially like this.
This was real, she could tell the side effects of being in cryo to long. Numbness in the fingers, head spinning, the feeling of being extra heavy. They couldn't have simulated that. Technology wasn't that advanced. Her heart began to race and her eyes threaten her with tears but her training taught to appear strong in front of the unknown. She couldn't cry over this, that would get nothing done. Crying didn't save lives. So instead she looked to him trying to find anything to distract herself with. He was probably as confused as she was. A lot could happen in 60 years.
"So you're a scavenger. That's pretty neat." She said looking over to him. She wanted to start out light, just simple small talk. Later she would try to radio the closet base and get picked up. She didn't want this guy to use up his fuel on her.
