Imagine a world where Superman was not the American hero. Imagine a world that is, in fact, quite the opposite of what everybody would expect.
What if Superman's spacecraft landed in Ukraine instead of Kansas? What if Superman was no longer the great American icon...but a Soviet hero?
Year: 1999
Location: Washington DC, United States
"Mr. President! Mr. President!" News reporters and journalists flocked around the podium. In the distance was the White House, an impressive building, along with the Capitol Building. Standing at the podium was a tall, stately, and bald man, wearing a suit and tie. Standing next to him was a slightly younger man, with orange hair and green eyes. Right next to the man was a woman, with long black hair and shapely figure. Men in sunglasses stood nearby, watching over the crowd, dubious stares hidden beneath their shades.
A journalist began to speak, holding a microphone to his mouth. "Today marks the inauguration of Lex Luthor, former S.T.A.R Labs employee and LexCorp founder and CEO as President of the United States of America, running with James Olson, former CIA agent. This day...hold on, he's about to speak!"
The cameras all focused on soon-to-be President Luthor as he cleared his throat, before speaking.
"Good morning, fellow Americans...today is an important day. Today is, yes, the day of my inauguration and ascension into this renowned office. But today also marks the anniversary of our official enmity against our communist enemy, the USSR. Ever since the public reveal of Superman, an alien, to be working for the Communist Party in Russia, America has delved into panic, madness. He posed a threat that we could not match. During my time on STAR Labs and as CEO of LexCorp, I have been investigating ways to defeat this enemy. And now, as President of the United States, I believe I have the tools necessary to defeat Superman and the USSR. I promise you, the American people, that we will prevail against the Soviet Union, like we have our enemies in the past."
Luthor continued to speak to the crowd, about relationships with allies that also opposed the rapid spreading of the USSR ever since Superman took the reigns, about advanced missile technology, and about domestic improvements to economically usurp the Soviet Union. However, as soon as the long inaugural speech was over, he quickly retired to the Oval Office, where he grabbed the phone and immediately made a call.
"Mrs. Waller? Yes. Begin Phase 1 of our plan. Yes, the Anti-Superman plan. We must show him the United States will not be pushed around any longer."
Location: Moscow, Russia
The man known as Superman descended from the skies, landing on a metal podium. Cheering people, all healthy and clean, surrounded him. Superman was a handsome being, slick black hair neatly parted, shining teeth. he wore a grey suit, with a red cape flowing majestically in the wind and a Soviet Union symbol plastered on his chest.
He began to speak in fluent Russian. "Brothers, sisters, today marks another day since I have led the Soviet Union. It has been a wonderful few years. And I intend for it to be just as wonderful for every passing one. Since I have led our nation, we have eliminated hunger. We have eliminated crime. We have eliminated poverty. We have eliminated unemployment." Superman did not mention they had eliminated freedom, but he felt no need to.
"Some people have questioned my loyalty to the Soviet Union." He scoffed. "Those people will serve no purpose in the future. However, I promise I will remain a firm supporter of the Soviet cause. I promise to be a champion of the gentle laborer. I promise to fight for Stalin, for socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact." The crowd cheered.
"And if you remain loyal to me, I promise I will bring the new President and the United States down to their knees, begging for mercy from the Soviet Union!"
Guidelines
This is not a canon continuation or anything of the actual Red Son comic strip. It simply borrows the central idea and some of the characters- namely Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olson, Lois Lane/Luthor, and of course Superman. Feel free to be just about any character other than those, as long as the fit into the story. OCs are allowed- feel free to make them, so long as they fit in with the story.
No overly mature themes and please put in effort, blah blah you get the drill.
