Deathkitten

I am the Deathkitten! Fear me!
Another day passes by, and the world still turns.

Even when the unthinkable happens, the world continues to spin on its axis, the sun still hurtles through the galaxy, and the galaxy still shoots through space at unimaginable speeds on an eventual collision course with Andromeda. That's the reality of the world, so even when a Supervillain attacks, things need to continue to function.

When a group such as the Occard Alliance is involved, however, things get a bit tricky.

As the news has been blaring, the ten year anniversary is coming up in only a short couple of months. Many people expect something to go down in Los Angeles, as that's where the crater lays... but now this. Now a symbol of the mysterious and hated terrorist group appears at a scene in Portland of all places?

latest

Roughly one week ago, a Supervillain attack plagued nearby Portland. At the time not much was known about the situation, but our sources have confirmed that this was the work of the infamous Occard Alliance. This is the first time they've popped up in nearly ten years, causing great concern as the anniversary of the Los Angeles attack nears. In the coming two months, security is expected to drastically increase in LA, in case they target the same city again. Tensions are high right now because of this threat. Anti-power groups are planning protests, and Pro-power groups are doing similar.

Figures show that fifteen people were killed in the attack last week, and 68 more were injured in the large explosion that took out a heavily trafficked restaurant on the corner of NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and NE Colombia Boulevard. Once the police had cleared the area and we were able to gain access to the remains of the building... the damages were clear.

View attachment 418156

The restaurant owners and their eldest daughter sadly perished in the explosion and resulting fire, leaving behind two younger children.

latest
Despite fires having been on either side of the street in separate buildings, they were, in fact, connected. The restaurant and three other buildings were destroyed and have had the rubble quickly torn down so as to minimize risk to the surrounding buildings. Five nearby buildings had various degrees of damage, though the business owners from most of them state that they really just look forward to getting back to a new normal.

View attachment 418160At the scene of the crime, detectives revealed a now-hated symbol of the group. This simple but well-drawn OA was found on a scrap of cloth underneath some of the rubble. Despite the cloth's torn appearance, the police involved believe that this was placed there deliberately to put their mark on the attack.

As these events are unfolding, however, the well-known powered school, Astrella's Boarding School for the Powered, is starting classes. On the day after the restaurant attack, the students got a taste of the campus. Their day was met with strife, however, as explosions were seen from below. A Supervillain cleanup crew was called in, and from what we know, no students were hurt in this attack. They refused to make any comment on whether or not this was linked to the now confirmed OA attack, though it is safe to assume that they are looking into it actively.

This is not the first time that the prestigious school has been attacked on the first day, as villains get more and more bold, but it is by far the flashiest we've seen yet. Their high location keeps them safer from most would-be villains, but not from the pros, it seems. All the same they have reassured parents and guardians of the students attending that they are safe, the lack of student injuries a testament to the school's Superhero staff.

Moving forward it seems we have to be more vigilant and aware of the Supervillain attacks. If you feel you have information that might be useful towards either attack, please contact us at Portland News 5.

Joshlyn out.
Astrella's Boarding School for the Powered had only just had their students arrive before an explosion rocked the Eastern campus. This event followed the one in Portland, and officials have not stated whether or not the two events are linked. If it is, and if the Occard Alliance's goal is the well known, well funded school, Superheroes across the country have their hands full.

As a result of this unforeseen series of events, and the OA at the scene of the first crime, Superheroes have flocked to the area to offer their support in these trying times.

After all, there's no telling what could happen next.

Today, Astrella's began its first real day of class after postponing the start for a few days on account of the explosion. They have said that no students or teachers were seriously hurt, and have firmly reminded the press and Supers alike that they have a strict visitor policy that no doubt is only going to become more strict given the recent events.

Astrella herself spoke publicly about the events and her stance on the matter earlier today at a press conference off campus, as students began classes:

astrella2-png.380398
"I'm going to try to keep this short," she started, tapping down a handful of papers on the podium, "We are aware that the level of concern for our students is high, and frankly we appreciate the worry. I'm pleased to know that you all are concerned about the welfare of future Superheroes. This concern and interested nature is motivational, and it helps to remind both ourselves and the students why we do what we do... why they are training to become the people kids look up to some day."

"That said, we are concerned as well, as we all are. With the approaching anniversary on everyone's mind... and I cannot neglect to note the symbol found at the crime scene nearby... with all of this in our thoughts right now, the explosion on campus is worrying. At this time I cannot say much, as it is an active investigation, but I promise to inform the public as soon as I can. You must all remember, however, that the school has, and will always take, precautions to avoid students getting hurt."

She paused and sighed, looking at the cameras, "Our desire to protect the students is why the school floats above instead of being on the ground as would be normal. Even with all the protections, however, Supervillains find clever ways to cause problems every year. This year is no different. I assure you all, this would have happened with or without the anniversary nearing. It follows the same trend it always has... and unlike the businesses that were hit in Portland, there was no damage done by the explosives, aside from windows being broken. No fire. No rubble... and no sign of the OA left behind."

"Our guard will be up in the coming months, but to worry unduly would be unfair to the students..."

"Thank you."
She took questions for a while, but eventually had to leave.

That was early in the morning.

By around 11am, another startling revelation had come to light, albeit unrelated. A number of Supervillains had escaped from a high security prison in Victoria, Canada. Many of those who escaped have still yet to be named, but it has been confirmed that the Supervillain, Tempest, is among them.

And now... we wait.

The massive influx of Superheroes into the area has deterred most crime, but there are always the bold or stupid few who wish to test their luck. The gathering of Superheroes has also prompted an equally large influx of Supervillains, because... of course they needed more to worry about than just the OA... right?

A pleasant practice match was being held at this stadium, approximately an hour ago, at which time there was an incident with an unhappy patron. The altercation supposedly began over the man bringing in his own alcohol, illegally, into the building. He was asked to leave, and has refused to do so. Police were involved, and the man has become more violent. Now, approximately an hour after the call was made, the irate man has become difficult to handle given his abilities.

Not much information is available yet on what's going on at Prost!, but a 911 call went out only minutes ago. A young woman was screaming in the background of the call, presumably in pain, and this loud nature of the event made it difficult for the dispatcher to get much information. The man who made the 911 call sounded panicked. Something was said about a "powered man" who had tossed a car, but it was less than a minute before the man who made the call hung up.

Azeem had been in Portland for going on five days now. He had volunteered to help out with the investigation but so far all he found was stress. These guys were good, he could find next to nothing new about them. Yet while he was flying above the city lost in thoughts something about 14 miles away caught his peripheral. Some kind of explosion. Sure enough a sound wave reached his ears a moment later. that cant be good...he thought to himself as he turned in that direction, arriving in a few seconds he slowed down taking a moment to survey the damage. Luckily the civilians seemed to have cleared out and local police had begun cordoning off the area. Smiling beneath his mask he touched down beside the police. Taking a step towards them but at the same time a clone of Pharaoh walked out of the original and turned the opposite direction and walked closer to the blast site. The original continued towards the officer. "Excuse me, what seems to be the problem officer? Is there anything i can do to help?" he said in a thick accent with as much confidence and good will as he could muster. He had read somewhere that americans respected boldness...a bit of a change from the expected humility of heroes in Cairo.

Daryl looked at the panicked bartender with Annoyance as he fumbled with the phone dialing 911 and describing the events going on not even a few feet behind them outside the front door. Sure it was likely a situation for Daryl to handle but he was getting fed up with waiting. He finally decided he was done waiting and took the bartenders phone pushing the end button and rolling his eyes. He slapped a twenty dollar bill on the counter "If my Bratwurst aint here when i get back this crap will be the least of your problems."
He said as he marched towards the door shouting "Hey DipS**t! You better run while you can because im about to break my foot off in yer..." but when he finally kicked the door down he seemed to have lost track of his train of thought.

(Destination: Prost! bar.)

The smell of oil, tungsten ion gas, and sweat pervaded the air of a little underground hideout just outside of Portland. A thin little frame not much taller than five feet was sitting at a bench working on a new project of hers when a call went out on the scanner. At first, she ignored it, and she didn't think anyone would blame her. This was incredibly tedious, delicate, and precise work. One little mistake could either set her back days or months on a shiny, brand-new arm-mounted blaster for her also shiny, brand-new (at least, with how it looked) armor, but then she stopped. There was something going on at the Prost! bar, and if there was ever a place she enjoyed getting a drink and yelling at people for being uneducated at, it was the Prost! bar. She and the regular bartender were.... Well, friends was too far, but acquaintances wasn't far enough. There wasn't anything romantic or otherwise between them, but they seemed to be somewhat kindred spirits: People sucked, work was better, and working while alone was best.

So of course, this wasn't something she was going to ignore. With a sigh, Alexandria set down her tools, covered her work with a tarp, and walked about twenty feet before she seemed to disappear. It was only a couple of seconds before the armor she had been making the blaster for flickered into existence, and only a couple more seconds before diagnostics had finished and her HUD displayed her surroundings.

"Machina Combat Armor Mark Four online and operational," a smooth, feminine tone said. "Greetings, Alexandria Norman."

"Hey Namina," Alexandria replied as she started jogging through her hideout, snagging pulse pistols, grenades, mines, fuel, and a plethora of other equipment from racks. "Start up a sniffer to get a bead on radio chatter concerning the Prost! bar in-town. Something's going down."

"Right away, Ms. Norman." Namina, her Virtual Intelligence, responded. Namina was a creation of Alexandria herself, after almost a year of research, programming, and casting for the voice. She was able to keep up and even sometimes outmatch some of the military grade VI's on her best days, but she wasn't about to tell anyone how she got the coding to do the job. That was during her days as a Villain.

Today, she was getting a pardon and a paycheck from Uncle Sam to work as a hero.

It wasn't a second later before her quiet jog died down at an elevator, which she had obviously taken up to the ground floor - a barn, and started walking out.

"Ms. Norman," came Namina's voice again. "Shouldn't we-"

"Figure out the best route there? Nah - I go there all the time. Just go as the crow flies."

"Yes, but-"

"Oh! I should've grabbed the rail gun!!!"

"Well, no, maybe not, but-"

"I know! We need theme music - do you still have Cannibal Corpse in your playlist?"

A sigh left the VI, defeated as she simply threw on any old song by the artists within the list and kept her virtual mouth shut.

A few minutes later and a quick landing, Alexandria was knocking at the right hip of the armor, which shoved itself outward, a pulse pistol exposed and snatched by her hand.

"Alright, Namina, keep your sensors op- How the hell are you still alive?!"

Immediately, Alexandria re-holstered her pistol and jogged over to the woman who was pinned beneath what looked like a sedan before gripping underneath and hefting upward. Even with the armor's enhanced strength, she still had to put a bit of effort into the action, but it wasn't enough to sweat just yet. She would wait until the woman crawled out and then sit the sedan down.

"Call for an ambulance, Namina," she started.

"Already done, Ms. Alexandria."

"Four minute delay?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Good. Now let's go see what's going bump in the afternoon."

And with that, Alexandria drew her pistol again, told Namira to move it to lethal, and then started trudging forward.

As The Hammer burst down the door, and Alexandria came onto the scene, it became clear that the dispatcher didn't quite hear the caller correctly when he had said there was a "powered man"... a powered monster, perhaps.

In the parking lot of this pub, there was an absolute mess. A young blonde woman was screaming in pain as her hip and side were crushed beneath a car that the beast had thrown. She looked worse for wear, feeble and ready to pass out from blood loss at any moment. It wouldn't be likely for her to survive, if an ambulance didn't get there soon.

The beast let out a window-rattling roar, setting off nearby car alarms as it turned its attention to the flying bug that just flew past to the woman under the metal wreck. As tall as a building and black as coal, with an alien face, this beast was a strange, intimidating one. Looking on at Alexandria with its four eyes, it chuffed, hot embers escaping through its nostrils as the glow shining through its throat built up in intensity.

The body of a car crinkled and scraped as it became a tin can under its shifting weight, the beast moving forward only slightly. The harness-like pieces of metal it had secured to it clinked quietly, almost unheard over the sounds of chaos around it. Another rippling roar came from the beast, but it was followed with a horizontal pillar of flame leveled at Alexandria and, subsequently, the injured woman.

When Daryl saw the monster standing tall in front of him he grinned at the walking nightmare, for him this was a dream come true. He was so giddy that his battle cry was simply the finishing of his last thought. "ASS!" yet his embarassing shout was drowned out by the screaming jet of flames. Rolling his shoulders the red glow began to fill his eyes as his muscles surged beneath the skin ripping his black tee shirt with a skull on it into ribbons. You look like a tough one, lets see. he thought as he flexed his leg muscles shattering the concrete sidewalk while propelling himself forward with the speed of a human cannon ball. As the tiny distance closed between himself and the beast, he tucked his shoulder in like a linebacker slamming into the beasts side as it spewed the flames, before digging his other hand into its skin to get a grip and pushing forward still in an effort to knock the beast off balance enough to land a solid hit. For a second he wondered what the beast was spewing flames at, then again did it matter? He was no healer and there was no way in hell he could've stopped it in time. if protection fails vengeance is a good strategy. he thought chuckling at his morbid thoughts...

A yellow cab sat parked a ways down the street the driver, a middle aged balding irish man with a beer gut and a cigarette dangling from his mouth. He watched the beast spray its flames, the high tech suit wearing woman moving the car, and the large man running headlong at the beast shirtless and regarded them all with similar indifference, as if watching an in flight movie. He was even eating peanuts..."Hmph. Interesting i suppose..." he said finishing his cigarette before climbing back into the cab turning the "In service" light on and continuing in the opposite direction....

Edward Woodsman
The struggling motors of Edward's ill-kept electric moped whirred, worn tires burning more rubber as he swerved and careened through the packed roadways of Portland. Although the man liked to believe that he'd chosen this bike because it was relatively small and nippy, he had long resigned himself to the fact that it was simply because he couldn't afford anything better.

Just two minutes ago, Woodsman had been minding his own business, spending his time slowly patrolling through the streets and looking for anyone that might need, or want his assistance. In the past hour, he'd admittedly done very little, helping someone he met on the street hand out fliers for a lost dog, and assisting a woman who dropped her shopping after a fall. Then he got the call. His agency was always quick on their responses and reports. Even if they didn't pay well, or provide particularly great support. A man like Edward would normally find issue joining a hero agency, being relatively mundane. He owed Harry for this job.

He answered his phone, A powered human making a ruckus in Providence Park.

This time, he made the call, an intern had been assigned to him, Dexter Heidrich, a boy that went by the name of Digerati. The boy needed more experience, and there was a chance that he might need some assistance, along with the officers reported to already be on the scene.

His moped skidded to an abrupt, screeching halt as he locked his bike up on the roadside beside the park, hurriedly sling his medical bag over his shoulder and hurriedly sprinting to the police line around the building, hands held high above his head to show he meant no harm as he approached. He'd hoped that he wouldn't attract all that much attention in his rather plain attire, a blue tracksuit worn over a plain black shirt, worn over a light ballistic vest. He was no hero, he didn't need a costume, he didn't care about making a scene, just helping some lives. Which meant it would be wise for him to not be suspect.

One of the officers whirled on him, Edward slowed, but still kept tentatively walking forwards.

"Hey, I'm just a doctor, saw there was a commotion, has anyone been hurt?"

It was just as she rounded the side of the vehicle that she saw what Namina had been blinking about in the right periphery of her HUD: It looked like something straight out of hell, and sounded like it too. The sheer volume of its first roar was enough to make the internal speakers in her helmet whine and she reflexively covered the ears of her helmet, but the sudden flashing of her HUD again made her look in the direction it was blinking from this time.

She could see the gapes in the beast's neck flicker to life, as if a kiln made to melt solid titanium with ease as it breathed in, and she had no time to think about her reaction. With a sudden, harsh kick of her feet against the pavement, Alexandria's jet boots roared to life with a fury as her body blurred like a bullet straight from the woman who had previously been pinned by the car. Without even a thought, dropping her pulse pistol, Alexandria reached out, chest plate scraping the ground and promptly scooped the woman up with her hands. She knew the scream was going to come, but the adrenaline as she felt the sudden flash of unholy heat behind her scorch her armor and even singe the hairs from her leg.

**WARNING: THERMAL SIGNATURE LETHAL** Flashed across her HUD as she quickly bent her body so that her own propulsion would carry her upwards and over the buildings. First thing was to get the woman to the nearest hospital. It hadn't even been a second before she had to get out of the way, and having just realized that the woman was in her arms was the only reason she thought of heading to the hospital. Already Namina was cancelling the delayed call to the hospital and instead informing them that they would be receiving a patient in ten seconds.

She had to leave the beast behind for now, and re-routed any additional power to her propulsion system, having made it in time. The hospital hadn't even gotten the gurney out to the outside before she charged in through the sliding doors, laid the woman down as they were rounding a corner, then barreled back out through the doors instead of allowing them to slide open again to get back to the fight.

It didn't take long for that, either. With the weight removed, she was able to accelerate easier now, and had just gotten her weapon out and ready to watch the opening act of one of her three Wardens: Hammer, and her only thought was that he should get a re-branding.

Wrecking ball seemed a better choice for the man.

With the focus on the flying bug, the beast hardly had time to react to the larger, non-flying bug. With The Hammer rocketing into it, the beast was successfully knocked off-balance. The building adjacent to the pub didn't appreciate this much, however, as all 24 feet and 12 tons of the creature shoulder-checked it.

Brick cracked and crumbled as the multistory building gained a large hole. The beast was unappreciative of this new encounter.

The hellbeast thrashed its long tail at the attacker, righting itself on the rubble that the side of the building became. Another roar ripped from its throat, this time much louder, able to be heard for blocks as windows shook and cracked. At the same time as the roar came forth, the beast stood up on its hind legs, only to come smashing down to the ground in an attempt to pin The Hammer under its two front paws. If this succeeded, it would then attempt to rip him in two.

All the same, a dull glow came to life anew from it's neck, visible through the skin.

Daryl was happy to find the beast offered some resistance, it wasn't just big for show. With his attention briefly shifted towards the building he didn't have a chance to see the tail coming not that he would've reacted if he did, sometimes the best way to learn what your foe has is to open your self up. The tail collided with his head right at his jaw line and actually knocked him backwards a few feet though he kept his balance enough to stay on his feet. "Not bad Old girl, keep it coming." he said quickly regaining his footing as its paws came down like a 12 ton press. With a deceptively quick Juke he managed to avoid both paws and wrap his beefy arms around the beasts left wrist Locking his fingers on the other side and tighting his grip like an iron vice. "Ha ha Gotcha B**ch." he said tightening even further aiming to rip the damn things arms off. "I wonder what you taste like..." he shouted hoping to god the thing could understand him. Out of his peripherals he noticed the glint of steel but was having far too good a time to look away, maybe whoever was getting roasted earlier had survived. No matter he had already decided this thing was going on his plate by the end of today.

Apparently wrecking balls could also take some punishment.

According to the size of the beast alone and how prehensile its tail seemed to be, applying the square-cubed law... She shook her head. That was way too much force for a regular person to take to the face, but she knew that he wasn't just any regular man. She already knew it was the Hammer, and she wished so much that he was Jewish so she could make the Hebrew Hammer joke.

"Your jokes aside, since I can tell you're thinking of them," Namina began. "Perhaps we should.... Intervene?"

Intervening was never a good idea in her head, but of course, if she let this guy kick the bucket, she'd get blamed for it. She could see the headlines now: Villain proves evil intent by allowing The Hammer to die or something of the sort, and she would likely lose her pardon. See, when she was a villain, this wasn't something Alexandria had to worry about. She didn't have to think about if she would have to fight some scrawny little drunkard who is pissing himself while being clocked and falling to the ground or fight a freaking Hellbeast when she rounded a corner. Life was much simpler: See that bank? They have security cameras, they have laser detection systems, and they have locks and vaults. JUst deal with the electronics and the rest is cake.

Then you could buy tons of cake.

Those thoughts were done in a literal second.

"Better idea," she replied. "I want my railgun. Put it on the rocket express."

"Yes, Ms. Norman. Right away."

And with that, Alexandria jumped ten feet straight up, kicked on her jetboots, and then corrected her course to fly at the head of the beast at top speed. Thankfully, being in titanium plated armor because now she was in Uncle Sammy's pocket actually gave her a bit of an advantage, and considering Sam had given his new niece enough money to upgrade her boots, she was moving as a two-hundred-fifty-pound mass at two-hundred-forty miles-per-hour. Alexandria cocked her fist back as far as she could as she flew towards the beast as it raised its ugly head, unhinged its maw, and began to breathe in. By the time it was done breathing in halfway, she'd let her fist fly.

In her armor, Alexandria could push about three tons with one arm. Considering she was 250 in her armor, moving at 240, and her fist was moving with an additional three tons of pushing force, well.... SHe didn't expect it to die, but at the same time, it just wasn't the time for it yet.

As she let her fist fly, she couldn't help but scream "SHORYUKEEEEEEEN" as her body twisted and made a sudden hairpin turn upward, body corkscrewing straight towards the sky. If the strike hit, she fully expected the beast to lose its balance again, tumble back, and buy The Hammer a little more time to breathe instead of being a dead man, but like hell would she be getting this close again. Her retreat was simple - climb up thirty or forty feet and draw her SMG, but there wasn't anything else she could do but that....

Not until she got her pride and joy, anyway.

It wasn't unusual for Dexter to get a message from his mentor asking for his assistance; the man wanted to help him learn to become an experienced hero after all. Dexter sighed as he scanned the information on his helmet's screen. He knew that his mentor just wanted to include him but still...My paper is due tomorrow, he thought bitterly. Cursing his professor and his course quietly, Dexter's navigational system beeped to signal his arrival. Adjusting his body, the hero effortlessly touched down near the gathered cops as the propulsion system on his back shut off. Spotting his mentor, Dexter strode towards him as more information flashed on screen. So far the situation didn't seem too bad. A drunken super powered individual losing his temper. No casualties reported. Good. Hopefully this ends quickly. Stopping by his mentor's side, Dexter took stock of the situation. His mentor had asked about casualties, which Dexter was appreciative of; civilians were the top priority, and while there weren't any reported injuries it could get ugly quickly if they didn't handle this correctly.

Shouting could be heard in the background as the intoxicated individual yelled at the cops that were trying to calm him down. The police officer nearest to Edward kept his weapon ready as he looked him over, not yet getting a chance to answer before another person flew in. He sighed and holstered the weapon, looking back towards the other officers. In the distance, they could see the man who was throwing a fit.

"No injuries yet. He's just being a handful. He's drunk off his gourd and won't calm down," he explained, nearly getting cut off by the sound of a hot dog cart crashing into the ground after being tossed through the air at one of the officers. A girl was hovering above the irate man, though she looked entirely out of her depth.

"He's a powered, and she's an apprentice. No sign of her mentor though, so she's in a bit over her head. Doesn't know quite what to do, it'd seem," he mused, "You two're Superheros? I mean, flying super-suit here clearly is. Anyway, go ahead and help, just show me your card so I don't get in trouble later."

The drunken man was laughing, tossing cans at the hovering apprentice like target practice, "Come on then! Let's tussle! I can take ya!"

He had a slight accent, but it was slurred and difficult to pinpoint. On top of that he looked pretty young. Young and dumb, as they say. He teetered for a moment and looked Digerati's and Edward's direction, smiling, "Hey!! More people to join the party!" The man tossed another can with the speed of a baseball, this time aiming for Edward, "Let's fuckin' tussle! Come on! I want to have some fun here, damn it. These bastards won't lemme have my booze!"

His speech trailed off into muttering frustrations about the officers being assholes and having something shoved up their asses. Another can made its way to the floating girl, missing her again.

"Sir please," she pleaded, looking absolutely exasperated, "You're making a fool of yourself. If you aren't careful you're gonna find yourself in way more trouble than I think you'd ever want if you were sober..."

"Finally a Super. You're Pharaoh, right? Precinct told us you were in the area today. Glad to see you," the officer said, looking at the man with a great deal of stress on his face, "There's been an explosion. We don't know what the hell caused it or what's going on yet. It burst a water line, and unfortunately none of us are... erm... powered, so we can't get close enough to see worth a damn what's happened. No one's majorly hurt as far as we can tell, though we don't know if anyone was caught behind the explosion since we can't get there. Only injuries thus far have been scrapes and bruises. One kid might have a sprained ankle from tripping while he was running away."

He grumbled, "Sadists. There are a lot of kids that play here... Not sayin' one place is better than another to do this... but..." A sigh left his bearded lips, "To be fair we don't know if it was just a water main that burst or something. Could be nothing but that... but we doubt it. It was a bit strong for just a main break, ya know? I just hope this doesn't end up bein' connected to the other attacks recently."

At the same time, the clone, walking towards the blast site, would see that a great deal of the pavement had been rocketed like shrapnel in every direction. A fountain of water about thirty to forty feet off from the actual fountain was shooting up into the air a good twenty feet, making the entire area wet and slippery.

Due to the location and size of the explosion, coupled with the water, it seems rather difficult to get around to the backside of it.

The beast let out another, more frantic and high-pitched roar as The Hammer gripped onto its leg and squeezed with the intent to rip and tear. As his hands dug in, it started to bleed a little, though the skin was likely much tougher than he would have expected.

The blood glowed much more than its throat and was incredibly hot, the temperature of lava, in fact. As it leaked onto The Hammer's hands and dripped onto the ground, the wet asphalt sizzled, steam rising up off of it as all the moisture evaporated. Small bits of plant matter such as leaves and twigs combusted immediately, and the blobs of blood solidified against the ground as little heaps.

As it tried to breath in to coat this surprisingly tough and strong bug in fire, the other, flying bug returned. Fist connected with jaw, and the beast was knocked off-balance again, this time teetering in an open street instead of into a building. It growled and focused back onto the flying bug. The one on the ground hurt, but this one was more attention-grabbing.

Another burst of flame rippled out from its throat as it attempted to melt the flying bug, and it tried to follow the bug, to the best of its abilities, with the column of fire if it flew about.

As all of this was going on, an ethereal laugh chimed from near to the entrance of the Prost! pub. Despite all of the action being extremely loud, both of the supers would be able to hear its amused sound crystal clear, as if from inside their heads. Though there was a laugh from that direction, if either of them had the opportunity to look, they would not see the owner of this chuckle.

Azeem nodded to the police mans words before giving him a slightly awkward thumbs up. "You have done a good job...please keep all civilians away from the area while i investigate. You will be the first to know what i find." he said as another clone flew off of the original taking off high into the air to use the falcon stones visual abilities to survey the entire scene. Meanwhile the first clone who had gone closer to the water spray looked at the water for a few seconds before activating the cobra stone and phasing through the water and earth to get an up close view of the water pipe. He was no plumber but he figured he could at least tell a sabotage from an accident, after all those were two things he was very familiar with.
"I will have your answers very soon officer...would you mind letting me know when the press arrives? I will keep them out of your way for you." azeem said with an obvious smile beneath his mask.

The Hammer

Hammer sucked through his teeth as the boiling hot blood burned his hand, it actually hurt but that wasn't the problem...this thing had just sobered him up. As he snapped his hands back he watched the thing incline its head after the armor clad chick. why does that sound familiar. he thought before the chuckle filled his mind with a boiling rage. "THATS IT...IM DONE WITH YOU!" He shouted as he leapt at the creatures throat with his fist cocked back bringing it forward with over 100 tons of force, and prepping his other fist to deliver even more. Blisters had just begun forming on the back of his hand fueling his anger slightly. "NO ONE LAUGHS AT THE HAMMER!" He shouted as his hit was poised to collide with its target.

Edward Woodsman
Edward dropped his bag to the floor as he heaved a heavy sigh of relief. Nobody was hurt.

A hot dog stand flew through the air, compacting and crunching against the ground as it crumpled, screeching metal roaring high above the murmurs and nervous chattering of those around them.

If this carried on much longer, there may be some injuries. Edward looked at the shattered husk of the hot dog stand, murmuring gently to himself. "Must be heavy... figure he's pretty strong."

If he threw something like that again, maybe there'd be more than just injuries.

Another heavy sigh as Woodsman wiped a heavy slick of sweat off of his brow. Edward quickly flashed his card at the officer that had spoken to him, before slowly pushing past the police line, his eyes flashing towards his intern for a short moment before yelling out "D, you're with me."

Edward took a quick step back as the drunk man hurled a can towards him, the hero swivelling around to one side to let the can fly past him harmlessly.

It wasn't quite a snarl, but for the briefest of moments, a look between distaste and worry flashed across Edward's face.

Another breath.

Another sigh.

Edward's eyes looked the drunken boy up and down, his gaze softening a little as he saw him. With Digerati by his side, he murmured to the boy, preparing himself to speak up towards the drunkard. "D... I figure you already know this, but being a hero isn't about flashy fights and bombastic battles. I know you probably want to get out there, fight the big villains, battle demons, dragons, aliens and monsters, but I can't do that." Edward's mouth curved into a smile. "This is what I do."

Edward offered a small wave to the drunk boy as his eyes focused on him again. "Hey, boy, the name is Edward Woodsman, can you tell me what's going on here? Looks to me like things have gotten... A little out of hand?"

Laughter? Someone was laughing, and it sounded way too close, even though the point of origin was farther away from her than it should have been for the volume. If the asshole was invisible, because it sure as hell didn't come from Fido, then they were about to get a rude awakening.

The thing about this was that, despite what everyone wants to believe, to some degree, everything follows the laws of the universe: Everything falls at some point, everything keeps going until something stops it, energy is neither created nor destroyed, and everything - EVERYTHING - has a temperature to it. Heat, cold, somewhere in between - it didn't matter. Almost anything on this planet could be found by using thermal sensors, and she was about to use that to her advantage. She just... Had to check to make sure, however.

"Namina, did you he-"

"Heat Signature Approaching!" the VI blurted out over her, and was it ever.

"Dammit, run a thermal imaging scan of the area with the point of origin being the bar!"

Alexandria wasn't paying attention to the affirmative that her virtual intelligence gave as she swept outward, then up and over the beast. Since Uncle had rules, and one of them was to avoid property damage as much as possible, it was safe to say that she didn't have much by a way to move, which meant that, if she was going to combat the heat, she would have only up and away to go. That realization alone made her want to scream, but there wasn't much to do about it.

Uncle Sam was an idiot when it came to super fights.

"Long-Distance Engagement Railgun Unit Inbound," Namina reported with a smooth tone as Alexandria banked a hard himmelman turn upward and over the beast. "Coming in at your eight o'clo- five o'clo-"

"I got it, Namina - make it a blip on the hud," she barked, then continued. "Hammer, get clear and cover your eyes"

With that, Namina's warnings came to a halt and in its place, a small icon of a rifle way too large for her to handle outside of her armor was shown making an upward arc to her right, and it was right about now that she decided to disengage. It was a simple task, really: Blind Fido. She knocked on her chest plate once and after a fraction of a second, bright flashes started to rain down upon the beast that had been throwing heat at her - right after the time that Hammer would have dealt his blow. Hopefully he had heard and done as she had instructed. The flashes weren't the brightest part of all of this. Since she had let them go above Fido at no higher than forty feet, she doubted that its hulking mass would be able to get away from the concussive blasts that would burn as if mini-suns of their own right over top its head, and her theory about its movement speed, she hoped, would have been supported by the square-cubed law, which was also one of those almost undeniable things about the Universe at large.

The way she liked to explain the square-cubed law went a bit like this: Imagine the token little pixie in stories with it's cute little rapier the size of a toothpick and it's little tiny bow. Once you have that image, you could laugh at it because if you thought about it and applied the law, the pixie could have something about five times its height as a weapon - say, for instance, a railroad spike drawn out to be a spear, and considering how fast it could move and the fact it wouldn't need a bow since it itself was a projectile, the little thing could have a hulking weapon as if it were a rapier and be scary effective. If the humans pissed off fairies, they'd all be dead by dawn.

Now, because of the law, the inverse is most usually true for larger things. Take for example the Giant Ants in those survival RPG games - those things wouldn't be able to even support their weight let alone move due to their sheer size. Minotaurs usually had a hell of a time moving at faster speeds than humans, but minotaurs weren't much bigger than that.

Bigger things, in short, had a harder time moving: Godzilla was a great example. The thing was slow as hell, and it made sense as far as physics were concerned, and old Fido, as well as whoever the hell had been laughing, was about to be brutally reminded of that once the flares went off and blinded the beast.

Once she was done with her flashbang bombardment, Alexandria took off into the air, reaching out above her and just barely catching the pod that held her pride and joy; Maria. It was a hulking thing - a six foot sniper rifle with a lot of mass on her, and once she freed it from the pod, it immediately attached to the top right of her chest piece, allowing her to hold it as steady as possible as the power in her armor rerouted to keep her stable.

She was lining up her shot, but it wasn't going to come immediately. The railgun had to charge, and since she was now five hundred feet up in the air, she doubted she was going to have much of a struggle making sure Fido didn't turn her into a crispy chew toy.

"This is a warning," she began through her external mic, loud enough for everyone for the next quarter mile to hear. "If you are the owner of Fido here, and you do not have him stand down, I'm going to blow his head clean off and find you next. Stand down, surrender, and I won't have to turn Fido into a grease stain on the street. I'd hate to see Prost! go out of business."

Dexter watched as some of the tension bleed out of his mentor's frame when the police reported that there weren't any casualties. The genius felt relieved too, but it didn't show through his armor. Dexter turned slightly at the drunk man's jeers. The edges of his lips twitched down into a frown, but it didn't mean much since his face wasn't visible from his helmet. Vile. The man was making a fool of himself, and what was worse was that he could hurt civilians. He immediately snapped out his thoughts when his mentor called him, "D, you're with me." Trailing behind the man dutifully, Dexter listened to his mentor's words. He wanted to point out that he'd rather be in the firm's workshop but kept silent. He could practically hear his mother lecturing him about respect and not interrupting people.

His mentor gave him a small smile before he turned his attention to the drunkard. "Hey, boy, the name is Edward Woodsman, can you tell me what's going on here? Looks to me like things have gotten... A little out of hand?" Dexter flicked his gaze between his mentor, the other apprentice, and the drunk man. He wasn't necessarily needed unless things got a little bit more out of hand, so he'd have to be on guard to make sure that the drunk didn't do anything regrettable. Letting his gaze flick to his mentor, Dexter didn't feel confident that he would be able to talk sense to the man. He didn't want to get into a fight today, but it seemed like it was going to be inevitable.

The green lines on the orb glowed mildly in contrast with the black artifact in its glass case. Helios was the only one in the entire museum paying any attention to it; it had cost him a lot. A golden gauntlet appeared on his hand as he reached for it, but there seemed to be an unseen force between his hand and the glass. The gauntlet disappeared as he pulled his hand back, staring at the artefact with longing eyes. However, his session was interrupted when a device beeped. A metallic bracelet slid along his arm and onto his wrist, the little screen previewing a brief report: There was an attack in Portland. Providence Park.

Helios sighed in relief. He'd had a very uneventful month so far. The calm before the storm, he'd thought a few days ago. And now the storm is coming.

He stepped out of the museum and behind it, then he shot into the air with a glow, flying South. Fourty-three minutes into the flight, just as he was over Washington, he heard another beep, and saw another report on the screen: Another attack in Portland. This time Jamison Square. There was also an update on the Park situation: It was some drunk bastard, and it seemed like someone was already handling that situation, so he just headed for the Square, and just as he reached it, he heard another beep, but he muted the device. He'd have to see Alexandria about that thing sometime: She'd promised him a newer version soon as she gave him this one. That was four months ago.

As Helios came to the location of the attack, he saw one of his older allies: Pharaoh. They'd worked together once or twice before; he still clearly remembers hurling solar blasts from above at the crocodile that appeared in North Africa, only defeating it once the new hero appeared.

"What's going on here?" Helios asked the Pharaoh as he lowered himself beside him, looking at the scene below. It wasn't long before the officers saw the sun god. "They said it was a Class Two or Three attack. Sure seems like it; after all, little explosions are far beyond the capabilities of mere mortals, no?" He added sarcastically.

He was about to check the device for further updates; maybe there was something more interesting elsewhere. This seemed like something that The Pharaoh could handle on his own.

But then he felt a presence.

The drunken man turned to look at Edward and Digerati, smiling wide. At the same time, the other super seemed relieved that he turned his attention away from lobbing cans at her. "They won't lemme bring in my own booze. Can you imagine that? Bastards. I start ta argue with them, and this is what I get. I get four... er... five cops and a half rate hero. Didn't ask for a fuckin' hero here. I'm not some... stupid... villain."

He was off balance, and impressively inebriated for the middle of the day. He pushed a hand through his messy brown hair, looking Edward up and down, "I just wanted to come and enjoy the practice game, but no. They had to come and ruin it. Fuckers... And its takin' so many of them to try to talk to me, just cuz I'm powered. Cuz they're scared of me n' people like me."

He clapped his hand on Edward's shoulder a little more firmly than he really needed to, especially given his super strength, "That's what's wrong with 'merica nowadays, ya know? They've got all this fear out everywhere, and no one wants to look at powered people normal. Sure I'm tougher than yer average, but I'm not some villain. I'm not some super either. Hell. Though Edward hadn't had a chance to say much during his ranting, the man still smiled, "I like you. We should get a beer sometime. Maybe after they gimme back my booze."

The officer looked on at Pharaoh with a puzzled expression, finding the whole clone thing a bit odd. "Uh... yeah," he muttered, watching one of his copies fly off, "I'll let you know when press arrives. I appreciate it." This guy was clearly foreign, he thought, but he sure was nice. A little awkwardly so, but that was just fine. He sure hoped that this was just a main break though, and not another attack. The uptick in attacks was nuts... but what could they do?

From the air, Pharaoh couldn't see much of anything. There was nothing of note above ground, and as far as he could tell there was no one remaining around it that needed tended to. No more injuries. That said, the water was acting oddly, the fountain pulsating larger and smaller in size as though it were alive.

As Pharaoh approached the water, phasing through the ground to get a better look at the burst pipe, he'd notice, strangely, that there wasn't a pipe under the spray. The explosion definitely came from under the ground, but the water appeared to be coming from nowhere, and yet there was no end to it.

As he'd be able to see this and make that revelation, the water changed shape. It shot out a tendril as a high pressured stream, rocketing towards the flying Pharaoh.

As The Hammer's fist connected with the throat of this beast, a pained whine escaped from it. Fist went through the skin and into the innards of the throat, into a pouch of lava-like material, and just as hot. This liquid would leak and drain down onto The Hammer's fist and arm.

The hellbeast didn't have much time to worry about this, however, as flashbangs from Alexandria went off, blinding it. Another wounded, depressing sound came from its injured throat, a growling, gurgling whine.

The amused laughter only grew, getting quieter as it sounded as though it was walking further away. Still, the owner of the voice was nowhere to be seen, disembodied but seemingly coming from inside their minds.

While the voice faded, the beast teetered, coming to a knee as it tried to bite into The Hammer.

The beast, regardless of whether or not it actually managed to bite into him, fell to its side. A moment after it fell to the side, the entire body of it roiled and bubbled, glowing brightly as it grew in size, tough skin stretching to its max. It stretched and stretched before finally popping, spewing broiling lava all over the area, melting into cars and setting nearby trees on fire.

From inside the mess of lava that remained of the beast, a tiny yipping sound could be heard as a miniature of the creature wriggled free of the heated liquids.

Edward Woodsman
Edward bit back the urge to mention to the boy that he wasn't a drinker, the man had always thought it set a bad example for any children or those around him. Of course, he wasn't going to mention this, as it'd likely do little to ease the situation.

Instead, the hero just offered a slow nod as he offered his hand to the boy to shake. "You're no villain. That much is true. But if this carries on, it's likely you'll be painted that way, at least to the media..." He put his own hand on the boy's shoulder, soft eyes and a soft smile still on his face. "Can you sit and talk with me boy?"

Edward's eyes darted towards Digerati again "Sorry D, but could you check on the girl for me, the intern, see how she is?"

Gunshots were heard on campus moments ago, and a 911 call went out as a result. According to the caller, there is a small team of individuals with large guns that are attempting to steal an object from the on-campus museum. It has not been confirmed which object was stolen, but that location is known to hold a magical teal stone with golden streaks about the size of a watermelon. This stone was taken from the nearby Warm Springs Indian Reservation, before the reservation was created.

By the time that the dispatch sent out officers, the team apparently started to leave with their prize.

Dexter was thrown off guard. He honestly hadn't expected the drunk man to listen to reason. Staring at his mentor, he'd have to reevaluate the effectiveness of his methods. His mentor's eyes darted towards him as the man asked, "Sorry D, but could you check on the girl for me, the intern, see how she is?"

Dexter clipped out a quick, "Yes sir," before making his way over to the other intern. It was a little formal, he knew, but when on the job it was best to remain professional. He'd seen one too many superheroes either lose their cool or say something regrettable and have their mistakes blown out of proportion on the news. He wanted to remain as uninteresting as possible; although his lack of personality combined with his hidden public identity had some people convinced that he was some kind of A.I. or alien. Not the strangest thing this world has seen, he supposed. When he reached the apprentice, she was still floating and didn't make any indication that she was coming down anytime soon. While Dexter could hardly blame her for that, it was going to make for an awkward conversation. He hadn't figured out how to adjust his armor's propulsion system to allow him to hover, so he was stuck craning his neck to look up at her. "Are you unharmed?" He couldn't see anything from his vantage point, but it didn't mean that she hadn't received a bruise or two. Glancing back at his mentor and the drunk before returning his gaze to the apprentice, he tried to reassure her by saying, "I believe that my mentor has the suspect handled. You can come down now."
