Ten years have passed since these three Superheroes have seen the light, and now they do again, naked as babes in the center of the massive crater that was once eastern LA. They awaken in the middle of rubble that was once called buildings and concrete and roads, each of them with no memory of the passing of time. The last thing they would have seen would have been blinding light. The last thing they would have felt would have been impossible heat. The last thing they would have heard... now that was a different story. Waking them was this bright, soft voice that sounded almost like it was singing her words through their minds, calling their names, bringing them gently from their slumber.
rubble.jpg
Nothing was left standing. Of course, everyone already knew this. The crater was thirty miles across and contained only parts of buildings. Even looters found little after the event, the terrain too difficult to maneuver safely. Rescue efforts were for naught. Everyone was dead, disintegrated. Shadows of their bodies left in some places like ghosts of Hiroshima and Nagasaki so long ago... that is, where you could see standing ground, anyway, which was exceedingly uncommon within the crater's borders.

And this is what these three poor unfortunate souls had to wake up to, rubble pressing into their bare backs, a world completely changed from how they knew it before.

On the police scanner, the following can be heard for any Superheroes looking for potential jobs: (colored by urgency - red > yellow > green)

  • A massive energy signature has been reported in the center of the crater. All available units, please respond.
  • Supervillains sighted outside of LA International Airport. Firearms involved. Three civilian casualties reported.
  • Supervillain Shield has reportedly been seen at In-N-Out Burger on Inglewood Ave. off the 405.
  • Vague report of supernatural activity on The Queen Mary. Please investigate further.
  • The Beverly Hilton has reported a string of thefts over the course of the week. All victims have been high-profile individuals, though all victims have later retracted their statements. Further investigation is strongly suggested.

Note: i intend on the airport

Mazok had been resting near a gas station his 12 ft tall form massive against the wall as he snored, a police cruiser parked nearby, the radio crackling about a fight at the airport. "hmm.. wazat? as he got up, grabbing a pouch from the ground and walkin over, giving the radio his attention. "hmm... sounds like a good foight." as he pulls his dakkagun from it's sling, beginning to hoof it over to the airfield, singing a song he made up as he went along. "ohh, we're off to foight da good foight. that we are! we bring choppas, and dakka, and da boyz!" on he sang as he jogged to the airfield.

I will be addressing the Queen mary situation
Alexander dozed in and out, laid upon a quarter star motel in a seedy portion long beach...the entire room smelled of cigarettes and beer. Which was strange, he didn't drink or smoke...which meant this room was just stained with the scent at this point. His pocket buzzed for a moment, causing him to sit up and pull a small police scanner that he had on hand, the volume low and almost drowned out by the shoddy television that was provided with the room, complimentary with the roaches. He focused on it and listened in as close as he could... Crater? Too much coverage there, it'd be swarmed with heroes in moments. The airport was also going to be the same situation, as much as he'd like to get involved personally due to the casualties. Shield was at a burger joint...tempting, but name dropping a supervillain would get the place covered with at least two heroes minimum, even if nothing really did any damage to shield. Made it pointless to get involved with him anyways, better to let a 'hero' do what they figured justice was.

That left The Queen Mary situation. Supernatural was...vague, but it also meant an assortment of things. More than likely it'd be covered with standard police forces, easily avoidable...that's where he'd be heading then. Standing up off the bed he winced a bit at the sound of something crunching under his shoe....big ass roaches. He took one last glance at his 'home for the day' that he had rented and then gave a small shrug. Walking out he seized up a bit as his greatest obstacle became apparant...human interaction. He was going to have to talk to the desk clerk...he was going to have to speak to someone he didn't know. It was just saying he was leaving...it was just saying he was leaving, he could do this! He walked with his head held high towards the front desk...the clerk made eye contact with him...and he deflated like a balloon, eyes going towards the ground. "Just....gonna go. Have a good day I'm....thank you for the room." Raising his hand up in a 'goodbye' fashion he started towards the door, a 'Later man' coming from the clerk. As soon as he was out of the place he could feel the weight coming off his shoulders...that never got any less terrible. Turning a corner into an alley he glanced around to make sure he was fine...clear, no one here beside him and a rat the size of a chihuahua.

Walking further into the dead-end alley he stopped at the brick wall and simply...dropped. Not to the ground, through the ground, the only telltale mark being a shadow pool that quickly 'dried up' as he fell further into terra proper. Taking a moment to orientate himself in the domain he was in he willed himself forward towards Long Beach and The Queen Mary, an unseen mass within the ground without weight or true mass really, screeching through the earth towards his destination. And people said the quickest way to commute was by car...

"Why are you over here?! Get back to your position with Warlock, dumbass! Move!!"
"Where is our aerial support?! I said: Where. Is. Our. Aerial. Support! You fucking wingnut - get on it!"
"Echo, pull back from your position, you're too-"

What had happened when so many orders were being barked? Floating in what felt like nothing - was he floating in nothing? What had he been doing? Before the sounds of the woman's voice came, Caesar had kept his eyes shut, tightly, running through whatever he could possibly remember of his last few minutes. There had been some sort of riot, and it all came to a head. People were screaming, enemy forces moved in on the crowds, and it all went to hell when reinforcements came in for the opposition. Hell, whatever little local military support they could have gotten their hands on only lasted for a minute at most, and then....

And then....

It got hot. Unbelievably hot. Caesar himself thought he had just about the most intense flames out there, but nothing came close to the intense heat he felt before there was a hole in his memory. Last he remembered, he was trying to give orders while fighting off what he could, everything was chaos, and then he's sure that he died. He died in battle from something that had enough of a boom to make him scared, but what the hell was it? A bomb? An elemental manipulator? The girl's voice came into his mind and Caesar found himself sitting up, elbows on his knees as he rubbed at his eyes like he was still waking up from a deep sleep, and breathed.

In, hold, and out. In, hold, and out... It was a couple minutes that he repeated this bit of a meditative ritual before he decided to get his bearings, which he immediately regretted. Looking around at the utter ruin and devastation around him, if this was LA... If this was where he died, then he and everyone else who was here had failed. Normally, casualties in battle didn't really have an effect on him, but there were innocent lives that he was too damn busy ignoring to take account for, and he didn't bank on the likelihood of losing the battle. The ghostly, grey shadows of what used to be people were reminders of his idiocy. He wanted to get up and kick rocks, shout, or just hit something to feel like he was in control, but he couldn't muster the energy.

He lost. He Lost. His loss cost so many lives, and from what he could see that was leveled, the blast zone had to be.... Fifteen miles? Twenty? It made him sick to his stomach. What the fuck was the point of the attack? "Think, you fucking numbskull - think!!!" he thought to himself, banging the heel of his right palm into his forehead.

No, wait... No, why was he one of the ones revived? in fact, why was Jupiter and Cali-locks also revived? Sure, they were the best, but Caesar was more of a leader. Jupes and Cali were perfectly capable on their own when it came to their specializations, so what the hell was the point, and what did their "Mysterious Benefactor" see in him to think it was a good idea? Caesar didn't have enough hair on the top of his head to count the mistakes he made in the last battle, and he doubted ten toes and fingers would get anywhere near closer to being able to count them.

He needed to change... So he'd change. Maybe their mysterious benefactor was stupid for picking him and not some other hero who had more of a heart for the People, but maybe that's what he needed to be. So, wordlessly, Caesar in all of his newborn-naked glory stood to pace over to the nearest ghost, then knelt down and touched it.

"Maybe you were an innocent," he muttered to himself. "Maybe you were an enemy, but you're gonna be my start, I guess, so let me do better this time, yeah?"

Oh, what in the hell was he doing? This kind of sappy shit only happened in movies, and having thought that, he stood, picked up a rock, and promptly chucked it at the nearest not-metal thing he could whiff something at.

"This is stupid," he said aloud. "Hey lady, what gives, huh? You sound like you know who the hell was responsible for this, so why the riddles? Why the bullshit?! How about you give me some names and I'll give you some results?!"

~Dr. Anne Beaufort and Aia~
Responding to IN-N-OUT

Anne.png Los Angeles. It was a different culture here than what she was used to in Florida, that's for sure. Yawning, the dark-haired woman glanced over at the passenger seat of her car. Aia was wearing a sweatshirt that was so large it made her look like a child. Anne giggled at how silly the alien looked, practically swimming in the too large material. They were enjoying this. Aia seemed to love the adventure each new place brought and Anne never tired of taking pictures of her 'daughter' at the various spots they visited. She was getting a little antsy though. They had been on the road for a while, and if Anne wanted to stretch her legs then Aia undoubtedly wanted to too. "Do you want to get some food?" Glancing from the road to the alien and back again, she continued, "We could stop and eat? Maybe run around a little?" Doing her best to keep her eyes on the highway, the doctor fiddled blindly with her phone as she attempted to pull up its GPS. A notification went off, forcing the dark-haired woman to finally spare a second to actually look at her phone's screen. Police scanner alert? She frowned as she fumbled with the radio. Anne had managed to set up her phone to alert her when the police scanner she had merged with the car's radio was receiving a message. Her fingers tapped on the steering wheel as she listened, her face blank. Might be a good opportunity. A chance for her Aia to test out her newest version of her armor and to get some energy out of her. That, and no one's responded yet. She wanted to keep them as low profile as possible.

Decision made, Dr. Beaufort turned on her signal and began driving towards their newest mission. "Aia, do me a favor? Can you get dressed in your special clothes?" Reaching behind her, the doctor's hand blindly groped for Aia's outfit before finally latching onto it and tossing it on the alien's lap. Giving the younger girl a bright smile, Dr. Beaufort said, "We're going to have some fun!" They were getting closer, she could see the sign from here. I really hope nothing bad happens. It was always a probability, which is why she had bought a small hand gun some time ago. Granted, she wasn't much of a sharp shooter, but it's pretty hard to miss when your target was close, right? Ignoring at the sweat gathering on her palms, Anne slowly pulled into the parking lot of the In-N-Out that mentioned seeing a super villain. Hope that this Shield person isn't too strong. They still needed to confirm that he was here though. Turning to offer the alien next to her another smile, Anne said, "Aia, can you stay here for a moment? Mommy's going to be right back, she just needs to check something." Carefully climbing out of the car, the dark-haired woman decided against bringing her gun this time. She did her best to appear normal as she approached the restaurant. Let's go. Bracing herself, Anne walked in.

The fight wasn't going well, but she felt like they were turning the tide. Slowly, but they were managing it. They would lose a lot of people this day. She didn't even want to think about how many members of her family and the Aphera family were stuck in this mess... how many of her family were already dead. She was pulling out the big guns, the best demons she could grab, calling on favors she could think to call on.

Out of nowhere - searing heat, blinding light, then darkness. The inside of her eyelids. A voice sang to her and she felt like her whole body was heavy. What happened? Her eyes fluttered open and she stared at the morning sun in confusion. How long was she out for? What was that? Did...

Jupiter sat up with a start and felt bile rise to her throat in protest. The surroundings. The buildings. Everything was rubble. They lost. Caesar was off shouting at rocks or something, but she couldn't hear him. The blood rushing to her ears deafened everything else. Her head was on a swivel as she started to panic. Who else was still alive? Or... brought back... or whatever? California Warlock... herself... and... Caesar. Was that all? Where was the OA? Where was Los Angeles? She couldn't see past the borders of the rubble they were sat in. Was there any LA left?

A soft choked sound like a wounded animal made its way up from her throat. A sob. It wasn't very hero-ly, but fuck. FUCK! She was crying, sobbing at the loss of life that had to have happened. If they had known... they would have put even more focus into evacuations.

Only the sharp scratching sensation of rubble against her bare arse forced her to shift her weight, slowly hefting herself into a standing position. "We're all naked..." she said, quiet as a whisper, feeling as though she was being rude for talking in this massive graveyard, "I... I know that's obvious... just... we should find clothes and... find out if anyone else is still alive. If... if there's a city left."

"Fay. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Gods I'm so fuckin' tired right now. Early mornin' shit like this. Stuck with a goddamn infant mage who probably has more training than I ever got in my whole goddamn life. Fay. Please pick your fuckin' drink so I can fuckin' pay so I can fuckin' fuck fuck fuckity fuck," a heavy sigh left her lips as she drooped downwards, contents of her wallet spilling out onto the floor, "I hate mornings."

"You know," she continued, picking up her wallet's innards off the ground, "I used to be a night owl. It's the time of criminals. It just makes sense. But no. As a responsible citizen, apparently, it looks better if I get up at the ass crack of dawn. I got out the door BEFORE my husband. Oscar, S-Class fuckin' hero that he is, and I got out the door before him. Bullshit scheduling."

Once they had their drinks and sat down at the table, Jewel set down her drink and rummaged around with her pocket before producing a radio. She clicked it on, and familiar police chatter filled the space at their table. She took a long drink from her still-hot coffee, black, two shots of espresso added, to be exact, and sighed, slinking down into her chair as her shoulders attempted to relax. Her head flopped backward to look at the ceiling before she closed her eyes. This was all still so stressful.

A few incidents caught her attention on the scanner, but one, in particular, had her head flipping back up to look at the radio. Something going on at the crater? Fuck it. Count her in! "Dibs! Let's go before too many other Supers make it there, yeah?" she said, standing and scrambling to gather their things up again and rush out the door to the car.

Once in and buckled, she spoke as she backed out of the parking space, "Alright. Fair warning. Might be dangerous. If this has anything to do with what CAUSED the crater, then it would definitely be extra dangerous. So just... try not to make too much of a hubbub about it to my superiors, yeah?"

A few minutes later of driving definitely a bit faster than she was supposed to and the surprising introduction of a portal to her commute to make it even faster, they arrived at the edge of the crater. From the edge, no living thing was visible.

Today was going to be long.

Today was going to be long because he ended up adding another four hours to how long the day was when he woke up. He would have to check back in with his doctor about the medications prescribed, and that apparently wasn't happening today. He was watching his wristwatch - specifically the slow, agonizing march of time as it ticked by, second after second, minute after minute as they made their way to the coffee shop. Jewel wasn't having a great day, as it was made clear, with her objecting to the fact that she had to be up early, and he wasn't about to have a contest of just how bad who had it. It also was seemingly bad enough that his Mentor was spilling her money all over the floor.

In fact, he found himself debating if he should just pull out his Debit card and pay for her, since today was going to be a slog for the both of them and he just wanted his coffee, but she was already paying since she offered, and it was a few seconds before he realized it was his turn to order.

"Sorry," Fay muttered as he looked up from his watch to look at the Barista. Even with his hair in the way, anyone could tell that Fay was more than just tired. Dark rings under his eyes were stark bruises in contrast to his alabaster visage, and the golden locks and bright blues did nothing to take away from such duality of tone. Still, he found it hard for the moment to keep his eyes fully open as he stared at the menu, looked around, then shrugged.

"I'll take a black coffee," he started. "Four shots espresso, two teaspoons of sugar - also, could I get a croissant, please? Make the coffee the largest size you have. Could I have another prepped for before I leave, too? I'll pay for the second one myself."

Just a few moments of standing before Fay found himself in his seat, legs crossed tight and sipping contentedly on pure caffeine and sugar. It was ambrosia of the highest calibur - something so dark, yet rich that even the Gods would be forbidden from partaking of such liquid. Of course, it was an exaggeration for any normal person, but for this little mage, it was everything that a growing member of the Council and responsible Wizard would need in such a dire crisis of lack of energy. Jewel seemed like she wasn't really wanting to start having a go at a Day as a Hero, but she was dutiful enough to turn on her scanner and listen to the callouts.

And then time stopped....

No, no, it couldn't have stopped. Even his watch....

Said time stopped, he guessed.

"You're needed," came a voice, but the sound was disembodied. Fay was quick to grasp the chain of his wallet as he stood from his seat, coffee left on the table as he looked around. "Calm thyself, Apprentice. You will be needed. You will go with your Mentor, but you will make haste. No matter what the call says, we believe you will be able to handle the task we've assigned you. You will be compensated heavily, as it is of-"

"You don't need to speak like that," Fay groaned, rubbing his eyes after letting go of his wallet's chain. "It's modern times. Tell your Mentor I got the message, and I'll head there soon as I can, with or without Jewel. How heavy are we talking about with compensation? I know the Council's paying my apartment and utilities, but I'm running out of resources for making my own money."

"You'll have all you need and more with funds, Fair-"

"Do Not," he found himself cutting off the voice once more. "Say my full first name. It's Fay to you, it's Fay to the Heads of Council, and it's Celesteon to anyone I need to bring down or work with."

"Fair enough," The voice responded, though it sounded irritated this time. "I've run out of time. Take your seat so we'll not disturb the others."

With a sigh of relief, Fay sat back down and time continued on, coffee back in his hands, exactly where he was before, and he continued to sip before Jewel's outburst, which nearly made him spill it. He had to move quick while she was gathering her things. Without any sort of grace or ceremony to it, Fay gulped down the rest of his coffee and rushed to the counter to pay for his second before bolting out directly behind Jewel, barely getting into the vehicle and buckled in before she took off. It was like she thought she was K in Men-In-Black, the way she drove, and he almost felt obligated to look for "The Button" before he suddenly found that they were...

At the most painful sight he's ever seen in his life. Still in his civilian, albeit enchanted, gear, he couldn't help but feel grossly unprepared, but that's what he got for thinking that today was going to be more of a tour of expectations than visiting one of the largest instantaneous graveyards in history. Fay took his time to get out of the car, adjusting his jacket and smoothing his pants as he paced further towards the expansive wreckage, and found himself reaching out with one hand to try and touch the energy that had been reported here...

But it wasn't here. Whatever it was, it was quick, but it was enough to garner attention, and obviously heavily enough that Jewel felt she had to warn him about the danger.

"We're waiting for the other Heroes to arrive, right?" Fay asked, looking towards his mentor, quad-expresso-shot coffee in his left hand. "Personally, I don't care if we just go in first - I have enough to get by, but this is quite an area to search, and we don't know what exactly we're looking for. It might be better to scry for Vitae before we head in, even if it might take a few minutes, but you're the Hero here, so the call is yours."

"It's like a warzone", I thought. No, it was a warzone. I was flying, fifty, maybe sixty meters in the air. The Golden Eye was keeping track of allies and enemies, and I recognized most of them, too. On the frontlines, that exuberant guy, Caesar Aphera. Fiery and boisterous, a fun guy to drink with, but sometimes his ego was hard to stand - I mean, guy literally called himself "Lord Caesar", not really a mark of humility. A few paces behind, the Oscalia cutie. She was a good fighter, and a lovely figure; Alida, if my memory wasn't too rusted. And all around, there was conflict. We heroes against strange masked cultists.

And it was one hell of a strange battle. Even with the support of my patron, even with the Golden Eye, the sight of the Golden Man, I could not discern anything about them. They were a complete mystery. And they fought strangely, too. They were coordinated, but each and every single one of them looked like they were alone in this battle. Thus, the pace of the fight was extremely irregular, and I had a strange feeling. What the hell did they seek to achieve ?

I had encountered many things I couldn't fathom through the years, but most I witnessed through the memories the Golden Man shared with me. A good deal of those weren't even hostile. It was the first time I encountered something alien as a foe. For some reason, it made me keep my power in check during the battle - I wanted to study them, to understand them. Because I couldn't reach their minds either. It's as if they were warded, or something similar.

That said, it didn't stop them from being tough fucks. I didn't dare to call upon the stars I was linked to, because that would be as dangerous for my allies as it'd be for my enemies. Mind hijinks were out of question too, and with Caesar spreading fire down there, there wasn't a grain of dust to use. That left... bones and metal.

Right below me, one of the masked fucks just flayed alive an Aphera girl, stripping her skeleton of any semblance of flesh. Another casualty, but that one wouldn't go unpaid. A flick of the wrist, and I could feel my control upon the white bones established. With a thought, I reshaped them into a volley of javelins, and pincushioned the killer to a nearby wall without paying any more attention to him. The Eye had seen him die, so there wasn't any risk he'd rise again. Below me, I heard someone yell at me.

"What the hell, Keaton ?"

Probably minded me using the skeleton of a just dead ally to kill an enemy. Meh. Honor the dead once you've buried them. If you can give them revenge before that, do it. Not that I cared in the slightest, really. I was a loner, I just came because they needed me. I didn't bother to reply, and I had the Eye gaze over the battlefield again, trying to find more targets...

Wait.

What was that energy I just felt ? Oh, crap. The light was so intense...

-

White blinding light, and searing heat. And then silence. It was the last thing my servant witnessed. A powerful magic, equal to the power my stars had granted him. The power he foolishly refused to call upon in his battle. In the end, it had cost him his life; not that I cared. The bond I had with him would grant me so much once his soul would have come to me... Why wasn't it coming ? Was something wrong...

Where was his soul ? It should be there, in the ether. Why was the bond still active ? What happened ? I couldn't see it anymore. My eye... it was gone too. What a waste. Hm. I doubt any of the enemies he faced knew about me. I wouldn't have to send an agent to clean behind him.

I looked away, letting my perceptions return to their normal, timeless state. Time and space were things I had little considerations for. Even my capital city, Carcosa, was not respecting them. Some parts of the city, built after my reign had ended, were older than me. Some streets were so convoluted that they ended before they started. And everywhere, death happened before birth, the lights were dark and the night shone bright.

Thoughtfully, I looked back on the events. A few seconds before... Why was the bond responding again ? He was gone... What in my name was happening ?

-

...And the heat was burning me. Then it felt cold. I opened my eyes, and I felt weak.
...
...
...

Why was I naked, and why was there only rubble around ? Why was there only silence... WHY ?

"Hgn"

I hoisted myself up, managing to reach a sitting position and look around. Two people... ? My mind was hurting... Caesar... yes, was him. The other... Alida... Jupiter ? I wasn't sure. It felt like I had been broken to pieces like a porcelain vase, and then reattached together with very itchy glue.

I still felt the presence of the Golden Man linked to my mind, so this was a plus. On the minus side, Jupiter was crying, and Caesar was yelling already. Sigh. The routine. And with the headache I had... Yeah, aluminum foil was the best I could manage. Well. A sheet would do, as long as there was enough to cover the embarrassing parts.

Staggeringly, I walked towards the other two. "Here, lady. That ain't clothes, but my head hurts too much for me to do better. Sorry." I said, giving her the foil sheet. Looking at Caesar... "Heard that voice too? For me it was a poem. Something about a prince, I didn't really understand. You fine otherwise ?"

Responding to IN-N-OUT

Aia sat staring out the window. her tongue cutely sticking out from her mouth a few inches as she watched the sights pass by, her hands on the window as she looked back and forth at the passing scenery. She loved the car. Being able to go fast without needing to run. It was nice, it would have been perfect if it wasn't so cramped. Having a 3 to 4 meter long tail did bring up a few problems when sitting in a small space but she made it work. When her mother spoke up her head whipped around to look at her. Aia didn't know much English yet but she did understand food and eat. She smiled excitedly to her at the notion of a meal plus a chance to get out. Hoping she could stretch her legs and get out of her outfit for a little. She didn't really mind wearing the giant coat and back pack but she much preferred going out without clothes. It was one of the draw back of going on this trip, back home she would rarely wear human clothing unless they went out every now and then. Now it was a rarity that she could go without wearing something.
Shed looked back to the window with interest till she picked up a change in the air, her tongue being another sensory organ for her she could sense something different. She looked back to her mother as she asked Aia to change. Grabbing the sleek outfit she was handed Aia knew what it meant whenever mom asked her to put it on. It was a chance to really stretch her legs so it always excited her. Letting out a few happy chuffs as she stripped out of the massive jacket and bag lazily tossing them into the back as she slipped on the specialized stockings (like the ones in the photo) before she grabbed the rest of the suit. It was a simple design really. Practically just a black one piece swim suit made out of specialized material to aid in defense while not obstructing her movement, in addition it was sleeved with thumb hooks at the end of the sleeve. Getting dressed quickly she turned her attention forward with an eager look. She wanted to hunt and this was always her opportunity to at the end of the day she was still a predator.

When the car finally pulled up to a stop at some building Aia started happily moving in her seat, she nearly jumped out of the car before her mother stopped her. Not understanding most of Anne's words besides stay made her pout at Anne letting out a few yips of objection but still obediently stuck right where she was in the car. Crawling over to the driver seat when Anne left with her tail filling up the passenger seat, waiting to be called out. She was itching to come with groaning and letting out little clicks in eager anticipation for it.

The morning air felt cold. I stretched my arms as I walked down the streets. This part of the town, so close to the crater... There weren't many people, no matter the hour. Even ten years later, nobody wanted to come close to that place. That was something I understood too; I had lost someone dear in the event, and there wasn't even a shadow of him remaining. For ten years, I had been alone. At first, it burned strangely, knowing that I wouldn't see him anymore. Then it became searing. I couldn't understand how people could simply accept and let go like that. For me, everything was recorded in my memory, and my heart told me never to forget, never to forgive.

Hatred wasn't something I knew. Even while having learned about it, even when fighting the worst of villainy, I couldn't bear myself to say "I hate you." And yet... When I thought about the assailants of that day, on occasion, there was always a strange fire inside. It did not burn bright nor hot, but it sure did burn thoroughly. And yet. I couldn't resolve myself to call that "Hatred". Because the lesson I have been told is of greater value. Cherish the memories of the ones you lost, instead of hating the ghosts of those you would have wanted dead.

I was aimless. I simply walked down the streets, machinally, mechanically. It's been almost ten years. Ten years since Caesar... since Papa died in the attack. He had taken me in when Master White had died, and he had taught me a lot. Today, it would have been thirteen years spent with him. He had made me his apprentice, so he could protect me better, as I was Master White's only legacy. And in the end, there was not anybody anymore to protect me. To love me. I've had to grow alone, to protect myself even more. How long had it been... Four... Five years, since I had one legitimate, open-hearted conversation with someone ? Outside of work, I would rather keep silent.

Silence was a good way to do things. It left a lot of place to think, and people always thought you agreed with them, for some reason.
And silence I was denied, for my phone was ringing.

Brian. The police coordinator for free-lance heroes. One of the very few people to have my number. The others were my boss at my workplace, and a few colleagues. I knew Brian was a good, reliable person. So I picked up the phone.

"Yo Rogue ? Got a 417-246 at the airport. Looks like the gangs are at it again, there's victims already. Couldja go and assess situation please ? I haven't got any certified pro on the hands, but you know me, I know you count as one."

I sighed. Murder and assault with deadly weaponry. Sounded like a pretty big shot, to do this near LA INT. Well. I would take it, sure.

"Thanks for the encouragement, I'll be dropping by there in five minutes. Anything else I should know ? Like, why are the licensed not available ?

- Uh yeah, sure. We've got spottings of a big energy spike in the middle of the crater, so Raph and Liz sent a general code to the highest ranked to go and investigate. Y'know, with all the supervillains riling up in town, the big boss here at the police station is looking like he OD'ed on caffein for three nights in a row. Probably did, too. So be careful. Might be shit-stirrers in the neighbourhood.

- Noted. Have a good day, I'll message you when on site.

- Aight, do your best, man !"

And like this, I hung up and revved my generators, dashing around to get back home, picking up the correct panoply for hero work. It wasn't much different, truly. It was me who changed the most. On the outside mostly. Though once I had it on, it didn't matter. LA International... Fifteen minutes at best by street, five minutes at worst by roof. Looked like some parkour would be the best option here.

"Level One, activate."

And I could feel my innards warm up as I stirred them, hopping from rooftop to rooftop as fast as I could towards the airport.

Hair down to his ankles and with flip-flops on that barely covered his feet, Shield, otherwise known as Darren, was just waiting in line for his turn to get a burger. Some people were murmuring around him, and he knew it would probably only be a matter of time before some hero showed up, but... he just wanted a 4x4, animal style and some fries...

He sighed as he came up to the cash register and bought and paid without a hitch. A short while later, he had a tray in hand and was eagerly chowing down on the tasty burger within. As far as fast food went, In-N-Out had the best quick burgers for sure. They weren't gourmet or anything, but damn they were tasty at any time of day. He heard the door open but paid little mind to it. Was it a hero? Maybe. Did it matter? Not really. Just an annoyance.

Upon arriving at the impressive ship, the first thing Shade would notice is that it was shut down temporarily. Presumably, until this supernatural activity that was reported could be remedied. The deck was silent, crewmen sparse. As Shade mounted the ship, a quiet song would begin to play in his periphery. World War Two, a popular song called "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition." Fitting, considering the time period that was the ship's hay day.

It sounded as though it was coming from below deck.

When one doesn't need to actually 'walk' aboard and can simply make their way onboard through...unique means, it made getting on unspotted significantly easier. A head poked out of an empty hallway from the ceiling, dangling upside as he got his bearings. Empty, which made his life easier-wait... he paused for a moment to pay attention to the song playing...he knew this. Brought back memories, mixed ones....now wasn't the time or place to dwell on it though. Sounded like it was coming from below deck...but the entire ship was apparently abandoned more or less....seemed like a sound enough place to start. Dropping from the ceiling silently he fell right into the floor below him, quickly phased in and absorbed as he made his way towards the sound of music. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition...praise the Lord and pass the ammunition...Fantastic, he'd have this song stuck in his brain all day, though worse things could be stuck he supposed.

Down and down he went, dropping through decks of the ship towards the music which proceeded to get louder until he stalled on a deck. Yes...certainly this one. Sliding through the wall like a mouse in the drywall he pursued the song until he found himself in a theater, or rather the entrance of it. Music was coming from here...but who the hell would be playing music from the theater, especially if it's on lockdown due to a spiritual presence? Sliding along the wall he pulled himself out of it, a humanoid mass of shadow standing upright as he took in the sight from the back of the musical theater. Ah...that answers a question then. The band played one, probably due to the fact they were ghosts. Frankly, for being dead, they still sounded excellent. Which introduced a new problem...how did he approach this? He wasn't an exorcist, but he had come all this way, the least he could do was try to sort this out... Strange way for the day to go...instead of tossing someone through a wall, I'm going to speak to spirits.

As the song came to a close his arms came up, giving a round of applause to the spiritual band that had played so well. His voice was obviously not the one he had used to speak to the person at the hotel desk, but it was certainly much milder than his usual 'feeds your nightmares' voice....he simply sounded like he smoked a pack a day right now. "Excellent musical performance....may I ask why you're playing?"

The song came to an end and the band bowed, seeming oblivious to their current state. Along with Shade's own clapping sound, raucous applause burst out suddenly around him. The room sounding as though it were full of an audience. As quick as it had begun, it ended. Darkness draped itself in a thick, sharp sheet over the area, before being pierced by a spotlight on the stage. Sitting there was only a piano, and a beautiful little lass sitting on it with bright pink hair. Her focus was on the piano, so her face wasn't easily visible, made more difficult by the translucent quality to her.

1582444413230.pngThe song started off slowly, quiet and gentle, haunting. It rose in intensity and pain as it continued, though she sang no words. The song crescendoed and fell again, quietly drifting off into nothingness.

She stayed silent for a long moment, no applause coming from the hidden audience before she went straight into another song. This time, however, her voice graced him. She sounded just like his dead wife, sweet and lively, though completely unaware (or at least ignoring) of his presence. Her eyes were closed as she sang and played, swaying with the tune, ghostly folds of her fabric making no sound. The second song finished, and she stayed silent, head down at the piano.

If only I had a watch...

No response.

Of course there was no response. The little - maybe they weren't a kid? (Not important, Caesar) - brat wasn't going to give him an answer, and of coooourse they weren't going to give him an answer. For some reason, people thought Supers were Gods or something, and while he was most definitely a God, he was Godly at his physical form and his intellect, which did not mean that he had omniscience, omnipotence, or whateverthefuckelse people thought they had. Right now, he was betting that Heroes weren't doing that well in their career after the city got blown to hell, so that was going to be fun waltzing into.

Hey Caesar, why are you alive and not my hero big brother who thought you were a shit-stain? Hey Caesar, why didn't you save my family when the terrorist group attacked and wiped everyone out?! Hey Caesar, why the hell did you decide to come back after faking your own death out of goddamn shame, huh?!

Yeah, that was gonna be a whole boatload of giggles and back-pats, and the situation that they all were in wasn't going to help anything, cuz even if he and Henry could take it, he wasn't so sure that Jupes was going to fare as well as they would. For all Caesar cared, the opinion of the Superless didn't matter because they didn't have to deal with the ramifications that Heroes had to, and Henry didn't give a squat about anything except for the Shiny Golden God that he followed. His point was only proven when Jupiter had woken up and started to cry.

A sigh left Caesar's lips as he dragged his right hand slowly down his face. He had to breathe and get a grip of the situation. Nothing mattered right now except for survival. Those terrorist pricks could still be here, for instance, and if that was the case, them coming back alive alone could've given away their position. Mages liked to do weird shit that made them annoying to deal with even before you found out ahead of time that you had to deal with them, because those squirrely little bastards were always a step ahead - always a step ahead, and-

Nope. No, now wasn't the time to go on another mental rant, especially when Henry was back up and at it while handing Jupes a foil blanket.

"I'm fine," He started, his voice gruff with having just barked out nonsense about information earlier. "More worried about you and Jupes, if I'm gonna be honest, and it's not just due to where we're stuck.

"Right now, I'm guessing none of us are back at full-steam, yet," Caesar continued, turning to them with his hands on his hips. "And we don't know just how far out these ruins span, but I'm pretty sure we're at the epicenter considering our surroundings. It'll be a fool's errand to try to just hunker down and wait to see if anyone shows up, too, considering we don't know if that's gonna be a Hero - if they're still around, anyway, or a criminal. How much do you think our revival would have stirred the pot here, Henry?"

His last question was genuine as it could get. When it came to things like math and physics, Caesar was comfortable, but things that Wizards, Witches, Warlocks, and Woohoo Voodoo wackos dealt with most definitely weren't. He could throw fire, and aside from his strength, speed, and smarts, that was about it.

"And Ali," Caesar said just louder than a whisper. "If you need a second to sort things out, then take that time. As much as we need to get moving, it'd be a bad idea until we can figure out everything we can still do. Take a minute or so, and let me know when the both of you are ready. I'll take point when we head out."

Starlight white eyes studied the band as it came to a close for their music...right, they were either ignoring him or weren't aware he was here. What was that theory again when spirits acted like this? Something about trapped in their time loop or something of that sort....he stopped that train of thought, he was a scientist, not a priest or a supernatural expert, as ironic as the latter was fitting. Any further thoughts he may have had quickly screeched to a halt...or rather, they screeched to a halt and then exploded in a massive fireball. Not...possible. Playing the Piano was his wife...Jenny was playing the piano. That wasn't possible, she had been dead for over a century, same for his daughter. And yet there she sat playing music. If he could have heart attacks, he'd have been struck down with one by now and died...maybe he had a heart attack but he wasn't dead, either way, it'd mean no difference to the current situation.

He wanted to move, investigate, get answers but he couldn't go forward...if anything he was sliding back. Given the fact his current form lacked legs and was more like an upright shadow he simply...glided back in his own form of a stumble. Think...think. This wasn't possible, it didn't add up. This ship came to final dock in the late sixties, long after she had died. Was something playing this scene? What was going on?! Move...Move your body you moron! And yet as much as he berated himself in his head he couldn't move, couldn't budge. Hearing her voice, seeing her...it hurt. It felt like his heart wanted to rupture out of his chest, every fiber of his multi-dimensional being screaming 'so wrong' mixed with jubilation to see her again. He must have stood there in a silent unmoving state for three minutes before he finally managed to move...and when he did, he moved.

He quickly dropped into the floor and surged forward towards the stage in a blink, rising out of it beside his late wife. His voice still sounded like he spoke a pack a day, the most he could manage to keep some shred of identity hidden if this was a trap of some sort. "Jenny....Jenny?"

"Thanks," she muttered to Cali Warlock, the draping of aluminum getting tied around her waist in a simplistic skirt. She didn't care about her breasts getting seen, but was more weirded out by anything lower. She couldn't stress enough, however, that their nakedness hardly mattered in the scheme of what was going on around them. Caesar said she could take a moment if she needed it, and she rubbed the tears from her eyes and shook her head.

"I'm fine. Shocked like you guys are, but now isn't the time for that. Sorry," she said with a heavy sigh. Professional. They needed to act like supers right now. She lifted her head proud and surveyed the scene, then looked to the morning sun to their east. "Right. Well, downtown will be towards the west, so I say we go opposite the sun. If anyone is around, then they'd probably be closer to the population center. If this is the epicenter of the crater, then they didn't directly target the most heavily populated area. Yes, this... must have been thousands if not millions of deaths, but... they could have made it worse. This was, in part, hills. So I think Los Angeles proper is probably still standing."

She looked at the grass and weeds trying to scrape and claw their way through the rubble to the sunlight. The plants wouldn't be too useful. Something like this had to be magical in nature, which meant that the growth of plants in the area could be affected. "I don't know how long it has been, but judging by the fact that all the rubble has settled and there's no fires or dust in the air or whatever, I'd say at least a month. We need to mentally be prepared for people freaking out over us being alive. We were all famous, and... if we... died." She took a break in her sentence to take in a slow breath, "Since we died, there's gonna be a lot of media coverage on us unless the US government steps in and tries to cover it until they know what's going on. It depends on who gets here first... I hope it'll be other Superheroes. I want to see my family."

It could, unfortunately, also end up being Supervillains... but she didn't need to state the obvious.

Jupiter held a hand out, palm up, and grasped an invisible thread that turned blood red in her hand. "Fuck," she muttered, "Since I died, all my deals, agreements, and binds are gone. I'll have to start from scratch with demons again. That sucks. Still, I can summon an imp without issue. Anything bigger than that, and I really should work out terms first. A flighted imp or another low-ranking demon that can fly around for us would be great. Something that can scout ahead." She got to work doing just that as Caesar planned stuff out.

She grabbed a sharp piece of rubble from the ground and raked it across her arm without hesitation. She dropped the blood onto the back of her other hand, then raised it to the sky. Strange words of a different language, distorted with magic spilled from her mouth like water from a river, "Ḛ̷̦̝͎́͋͋͝ǧ̶̺͗̐ ̸͔̝͖̼̐͑̈́͝á̶̬̊͛͒̏k̶̬̮͓̆̍̀ͅa̷̳̋l̷̟̩͑͒͑̎l̵̮̀a̴͎͍̥̦͂̽͌́ ̵̤̂̄̑þ̸̤͍̰̬̿á̸͎̩̯́ ̸̪̗͙̂s̴͓̏̈̂e̷͉̼̓ͅm̶̟͉͔͆͝ ̷̗̘̌͊ẻ̷̡̠͙̄̅͘r̷͙͂u̴̜̫̱͂̚ ̶̨̱̒h̵̫̬͋͑é̴̦̭̻͔̔͌͝r̶̢̒͒̔̚ ̶̱͖͑̔̌͝ą̸͙̼̭̓ð̷̮̼͖͗́ ̵̳̥͊̓̾̊n̸̪̰̬̏e̵̹̅ð̷̒ͅȧ̷̜̼̮̫ṋ̵͎̈́͛͒,̸̗̼͂͂̐ ̶̙̓̉̅f̸͈̓́̾l̴̠̬̈́́̌͝ŭ̸̡͋̃g̵̲̘͚̾g̴͇̠͗̀̕͝é̵̝͌s̶̨̖̥̼̐ẗ̵̻̲̞́̎͠i̷̟̩̫̽̄̕͜͝ ̶̧͇̟̆̑̽ṃ̸͖̒̿͝i̵̡͛́͜ń̷͓̮̦̎͂͜n̵̬̺̼̓͌.̶̛̖͕̝̒̔̄͜ ̷̬̆̈̚F̶͍̭̿̂̓̒y̴̫̤͐̊͘͘ȓ̴̢̽́̿i̶͙̒̅r̸̻̻̘̀͗̔ ̷̭̰͕̌̎̈́͠b̴͓͐͒́͊l̶͓̩͖̉̄́͝ó̶̫͛̐̋͐ð̸̝̬̗̞́̽̊͝,̶̯͍̯͕͗̿ ̸̭̞̥͌f̵̡̟̳͇͐̏ỹ̴̢̫̓̏ȓ̴̲̺̽̚i̷̱̤͓͛r̸̢͓̤̲̐̐ ̸̯͙͛́͜æ̶̺͓͇̈́̓͂̉͜v̶̨̙̙̊͆̏͝ī̷͖̕͜͝͝n̵̝̓t̷̯̠͓͖̑͘ý̵̳͉̺̽̚r̴̦͇͇̬̍́̀̈́i̵̖̻̝̭̿,̵͙̣̔̐̄͠ ̵͍̓̀t̵̛̗̖͋̇̄ǐ̷̗͓͙l̵͉̩̬̍ ̴̼̦͙͍̏̏̂ả̸̞̃͑́ð̷͈̋̄ ̸̳̉́v̶͕̖̩̊͠ͅi̶̥̰̱͋̑n̴͎̩̖̰͐̓͆͒n̷̨͕͔̈ą̵̣̱̌̆͑̋͜ ̷̯͂͠f̸̢͇͚̬̂ỳ̵͖̩̞͛͂́ŕ̵̼̬͎̦̊͝i̶̯̒r̶̟͍͈̐́͘ ̷̘̞̋̚m̷͕̙̭̊̈́̈́ͅḯ̸̳͖̼̞g̷̩̥̈́ ̵̘͖͉̄͆o̸̱͚̟̿̌͠g̷̗̙͑̚ ̴͙̍̑m̷̡͕̝̗͋͑̚͝í̶̹́̂̓̚͜͜n̶̤̙̝̊̾̄͠á̶̡̜̟̜̐͝.̵̣̈̌̄̿ ̷͎̈́̑Þ̴̲͍͕͙̍̄a̴͎͚͖̬͛̚ň̶̮̞̅̅̓g̸̜̿̌̌̚a̵̧̲̱͙͆̓͆ð̷̓̕ͅ ̸̢̃͝t̴̗̝̀̍͆͜i̸̤͚̍̈́l̶̘͇̻̭̐͊̿̏ ̶̱̈̅é̶̞̳͈̪̀ğ̸̮̟͉̦͌̔́ ̸̳̼͈̑̆e̸͈̍̉r̵̺̜̓̇ ̶̻̈́̑̓̄e̵͓͚̐͆̈́͠k̵͕̓k̶̺̫̗͆͛͒̇ḭ̴̠̞̓͗ ̶̩̿l̴̡̰̪̩̓̚é̸̮̰̹̑͘͘ͅn̶̺̣̱̜̑g̸̬͓̘̬͒̃̌̚u̶̧͕̮̱̍̕͘r̸̜̥͉̊̃̀ ̴͈̈̒̍þ̶̢͇͚̖̅͑̀͠ö̸͚̺̮̪́̋r̶̞̪̈f̶̣̈ ̷̯̲̂á̷̺̭͓̇̀̕͠ ̶͎̳͌þ̵̤͙́é̸̲̞͆͆̂r̴̳̫͊,̸̤͚̼̥͑͒̒̆ ̴̣̀͂b̵̗͈͂́i̴͓̍̑̕r̷̡̛̟̰̋t̷̟͚͂́a̶̬͛s̵̩̺̈t̷͚̖̔͠ ̵̡̟̤̇̀͘ȏ̶̮̞̹͊̍̾g̷͍̭͉̩̑̏̕͝ ̶̪͌̽̂͘þ̴͇̝̈̐̃̚j̴̱̇̄̾̂ǫ̴̤͚́̎͠n̵̨͒͋̋̕à̵̫͕̗͝,̴̯͐̈ͅ ̴̨̣̭͙̐́̈́D̵̡̛̹̹̄é̶̦̹m̸̫̏͌̓ȯ̸̥̼͕̋n̷̬͎̣͘"

The blood that was spilled on the back of her hand glowed, while the cut on her arm continued to dribble to the ground. In front of her, next to Lord Caesar, a dark purple portal opened on the floor above the rubble. From it, a small, deformed goblin-like creature with wings crawled forth. Once it was out, the portal closed, and the creature hopped up and lapped at the blood that Jupiter had spilt on the floor. "Waste not, I guess," she muttered, grimacing a little. She preferred stronger demons, but they couldn't be picky. "Lord Caesar. Order it as you wish. I'm ready now."

Youth cares not for Time! Only the moment!
.... but this is a bit of a post.

1582537257725.png
There was a lot to be said about a new mind as it constantly absorbed its surroundings when it was aware. All of life was so new and fascinating, from simple plants to the complexity of vehicles and tall buildings that threatened to breach the realm of God himself, and Xasura, the little ball of fur that he was, wanted to know about all of it. How fast was that car going? How much force did it have behind it? What's the tensile strength required of materials to make such sound structural integrity for the buildings that swallowed them like ants in an endless maze? What even was the contents of the ambient air around them as they strolled down the streets?

With his backpack on his back, a day off from school, his little scarf and jacket donning his tiny shoulders, the young little Wolf who dared decided that, for now, he didn't need to be back with the Sister and his temporary family of kids, but out and about! Yes, he would explore! He would run into an alley, adjust his pack, stretch his limbs...

And begin to climb up the sheer surface of brick that was just to his left. The pads of his fingers, much like that of a Canine's, clung to the rugged surface as he quickly made his way with practiced motions, the traction of his running shoes ensuring that his little feet would continue to propel him upward at a steady five miles per hour. Considering he was about eighty pounds, and calculating for conversions in both weight to kilograms and miles per hour to meters-per-second-per-second, which was just a fancy way for saying meters-per-second-squared, then he guessed that maybe he was exerting around 41 pounds of force with each movement, which for his body normally would be quite a lot to do for about sixty seconds! For Xasura, though, he was no ordinary fluffy boy!! Oh no no!

Xasura was a born Super. Super Strength, Increased Durability, flexibility, reflexes - his hand slipped just a meter before reaching the lip of the building, and with a quick, hard scrape downward against the wall with his foot as he leaned his body in, Xasura felt the pads of his fingers scrape and stick to the rough and dry surface of the wall, and boy was he glad for the heightened reflexes that he had! If he fell from a whopping four-hundred-forty feet - or forty-four stories, even his super durability wouldn't have been able to save him - especially considering the fact that there wasn't really enough room to roll at the bottom, and even if he was likely to touch the other side of the alley before he impacted, it might have been too much force exerted on his-

The fluffly little pup shook his head to make himself stop thinking, rather forcing himself to concentrate on the task at hand. He slid down maybe several meters, and with a quick push of effort and a little more time, he was able to clamber up to the top of the building before tossing his pack down on the roof and begin.

This was his favorite part. The climbing was fun, a little dangerous, and a decent provider of thrills, but nothing, and he meant nothing beat what he was about to do. In the cover of the height of the building, Xasura began his ritual. Quiet humming left his extended maw as a mask slipped over it, bearing a web-like pattern across the entirety save for the visor that spanned from one temple to the other, and offered perfect clarity of vision. Little hands dug around for what looked to be gloves and boots, and as he doffed his jacket, scarf, shirt, boots, and pants, what was beneath was his very own, homemade suit made from something that he could only surmise was ridiculously strong as far as its tensile strength went, and it was more than just homemade.

After slipping on the gloves and boots, then securing it all with a bit of something that he whipped up from the palms of his hands, the WolfSpider now stood tall and proud with his bag on his back, looking over the city from his vantage point.

1582538489055.png

Now his blood was really pumping, and all he could feel was an excited chill go through him as the wind blew, but only the slightest bit of conduction could be felt. What the suit was made of was simple - incredibly stubborn dye that took a month to completely wash out of his fur and, his favorite ability, the spider silk that he could spin on command. The incredibly tensile strength was something that was akin to Darwin's Bark Spider on steroids and fit to scale - and that meant scale up rather than down.

One deep breath followed another, then another and yet another as Xasura began to pad backwards, creating more than fifteen meters of space between himself and the ledge before sprinting forward, coiling all the muscles he could in his legs, and then taking off with enough propulsion to send him careening into the air from so very high. It was almost as if slow motion that The Astonishing WolfSpider's right hand reached out, and after flexing the muscles in his little arm in just the right way, a thick web shot from the appendage directed straight towards the corner of a building. once it attached, the real fun began.

The G-Forces that his body was put under was drastically reduced with both his weight and size, though his velocity had become immense as he continued to fall while grasping the rope of adhesive silk before reaching the apex of the fall, and then swinging back upwards. The moment that WolfSpider had reached the height of his swing, he let out an enthusiastic yelp of excitement before repeating the process. During this point in the day, most people wouldn't spot him due to his speed and the tint of his suit alone since it somewhat matched with the average color spectrum that hung over the city, and he was moving too fast to be identified as anything more than a simple blur of motion. Someone would just think he was another hero out on a day's run.

That's when he saw the excitement, though! Apparently there was something going on at the Queen Mary, as there was a group hanging around the area, and what was even more curious to his sensitive eyes was the fact that something... Currently unidentifiable, but definitely abnormal seemed to flicker onto the ship and then entirely out of sight. that only meant that something was going on, and immediate action would've been the worst of ideas. So with his final swing, WolfSpider let himself continue past the normal height of his swing before spreading himself out to brake his velocity before landing on the highest building he could find closest to the shore.

Whatever was going on, it obviously wasn't some sort of attraction for more than one reason: At this point, there were kids, and they seemed to be held back by their parents or guardians while police were barring entry. Something was definitely going on, but... How to find out? Surely, just walking down and asking the friendly policeman, "Hi there! I'm a Vigilante in disguise, and I was wondering if you could maybe tell me what was going on - you know, just to sate my curiosity and nothing else! Scout's honor!" was an absolutely dreadful and really bad idea, so the only other option was to swing off somewhere and land into the drink. If he remembered correctly, there was a way to just...Land in the water without really taking much damage at all - there was a man in his forties who wasn't all too heavy who was able to basically swan dive and land chest-first into a foot of water and not even so much as bruise, but that caused a lot of noise and a significant splash, which would have drawn attention. Then there was the likelihood of some of the boats surrounding the ship being police forces keeping watch for amphibious intruders, so he would need a distraction...

And wouldn't you know it, luck was on his side. He couldn't even make it up. He had just witnessed a petty crime, which could've turned into a federal crime: pickpocketing, which could easily be something that could have Identity theft tagged onto it, and he wasn't about to let the opportunity pass by. The cutpurse was heading off into a narrower area just nearby, and he was actually pretty excited about what he was planning to do.

A quick jaunt took him to the edge of the building to his right, and just as the thief reached the little alcove away from the people surrounding the aforementioned scene, WolfSpider balled up a loose little sphere of web, let it hang from a thick thread of silk, and then chucked it downward and pulled.

The effect was the wetter web suddenly spreading out on contact, creating a stringy cascade of wet silk that quickly dried and clung to the target, or as they would call it in the animal kingdom his "prey," and after ensuring that the thief couldn't move their arms, quickly slapped the other side to the side of the building and ran the moment police heard the man scream.

Now that he was tucked down and a... Good enough amount of police had rushed to the scene to stare in utter confusion at what they were witnessing, WolfSpider made his move. Sprinting backwards, he let more silk sling from his hands and attach to the side of the building he was at while continuing to run, then once he felt the strain on the silk was almost too much, he pulled back only a little bit more, coiled his legs, and let loose with the most force he could muster in his legs.

The result was the WolfSpider creating a slingshot from his own body and catapulting himself in the air. Now he had to think about how he was going to land, since he did the estimate in his head for where he wanted to land, which was at the tail end of the ship just out of the view of roaming police. Swan-flopping was out, and unless he felt like breaking toes, his best bet was to break the surface of the water with his fingertips and scoop outwards in order to thrust himself deep into the drink. The only problem was that he hadn't tested the suit in water yet, but with how tightly it was weaved, while still allowing him to breathe almost freely, he was banking on the idea that he had more than a few seconds to get to the surface before his mask and hood were absorbing water.

With a little effort to contort his body and redirect his weight and momentum, the WolfSpider successfully made a nearly quiet breach through the security and water without breaking his little fingers, and after going deeper than what he thought he would, quickly forced himself to swim as fast as possible to attach himself to the side of the ship and climb up, then into an open starboard-side window that he was almost too lucky for. Now, inside and his suit only a little wet, though the vast majority was like beads of water on his suit, he shook them off with stubborn movements before his ears picked up the music.

"Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition?" Wolfspider muttered to himself as the right brow of his visor raised in a comical manner. "That's a world war two song that the Sisters were telling us about in their own history class, and that isn't playing from a speaker for the whole ship to hear, so...."

Investigation time! And what way to investigate than upside down before anyone could see him - like zipping himself up onto the ceiling of the lower deck above where the sound was coming from to literally crawl his way there?

After having passed the various little nooks and crannies to make his way down, there was an obviously much larger display in store for him.

"It's that shape I saw earlier! WolfSpider thought to himself excitedly. "But he can't be the disturbance here, can he? Looking at the stage, I think he'd probably be more of an-"

Now, WolfSpider was many things: Young, Exuberant, Bright, Mature for his age - but not too much so, a little devious, and far too curious, but he wasn't rude! Another performance was starting, and he was about to bear witness to piano playing that was almost too good. The woman who had been playing was leagues more capable and skilled than Sister Sera back at the orphanage, and she could really play some complicated pieces, but this?

WolfSpider found himself crouched, stuck upside-down on the ceiling, and gently swaying to the... Ghost?! That woman was a ghost!!! What in the world was a Ghost doing in the mortal realm?! Sure, he heard of Supers who dealt with such things like Exorcisms, but he thought the only ones that were real were the ones the Fathers had been doing, so was this... After a moment of thinking, he was going to call the unidentifiable entity "Shadow" rather than "Unidentifiable Entity" - was this Shadow an Exorcist? Maybe he was a Father?

It was after the playing had stopped and The Shadow had moved that WolfSpider found himself clapping, as it was not only appropriate since the ghostly woman was so very skilled and blessed to be able to play, but it was also what you did when someone performed on stage, and he wasn't going to be rude even for a second.

"Wow, Miss," WolfSpider called out, his voice light and jovial. "You're really blessed to have so much talent on the piano. I don't know why you chose here to play, but I'm really glad I got curious enough that I had the opportunity to hear you play. I'm WolfSpider - what's your name?"

Though he wasn't aware of it, just a touch of Magick had coated his words, genuine as they were, to fill the room with his emotions. He was surprised, happy, and most of all genuinely impressed with the performance, and if someone were to be susceptible to it, even they might feel just a little less on-edge as before, as "The Shadow" had seemed to be just now.

This made him happy that he had such a blessing, even if the Sisters thought that it wasn't. He got to hear wonderful music, even if the tone was more sad with the second song, and maybe he could make a Ghost friend?! The thought alone made him even more excited! How absolutely cool would it be to have a literal Ghost or Spirit as a friend?!

Which was more appropriate, though??? Ghost sounded more of an insult if he put himself in her shoes, but then again, as he rubbed his masked chin with one hand, how would he know? He had never been dead....

Usually, the surroundings of the airport would be calm, so early in the morning. There would only be the moving cars, and the flying planes, and the walking people. There would a few sounds too, but nothing too loud, or annoying, or worrisome. Not today. Today was a day of trouble and turmoil. Today was a day of fear and gunfights aroung the airport, and there was no quietude in the movements of the people.

Right before the wide turn of the World way was sitting a large black limousine. Around were police vehicles and other black cars, but none as luxurious-looking. Further away, in front of the gates of the main building, were a couple armored vans. Behind the limo were three people. One was a skeleton in a nice suit, his tuxedo completed by a black bolero hat, and a vintage-looking silvery shining pistol at his belt. He was smoking a cigar, slowly drawing in the smoke and slowly spewing it out in the shape of skulls. The second was a demonic-looking woman, with pink hair and a pair of horns, and clad in an attractive outfit. She was leaning against the wall, her tail slowly moving around her legs. The last was an old-looking man, with a short, well-trimmed white beard, and matching hair. He was wearing a modest suit and tie, and subtly flicked his shades off his face, tucking them in his pocket. Sighing, he was the first to speak.

"So, Chupa, what the hell is happening here ? I could swear this isn't how your peace talks were supposed to turn out."

His voice was gravelly and tired. He was probably overworked, and stayed up late at night.

The skeleton replied, a deep, drawling voice with hispanic undertones coming out from between his clenched teeth.

"Ah, if it isn't the señor Jonas Whittaker... How is the FBI doing this day, agent Whittaker ? He entendido que you have had a lot of problems lately. Creo que el replacement of your old boss caused a lot of troubles... Ay, muy mala... Anyway, no, Jonas, mis hombres no son responsible por eso big FUCKING mess that you can see here. Peyote and I had come with a few boys to secure an area of the parking and talk at peace with the señorita Campanas. Five cars including mine, ten boys from the Don's guard and five from Peyote's merry band. Should business have degenerated, la gente woulda been kept out of the thing. Me gusta precaution, Jonas. You know my record, I like it clean. And as la señorita arrived, estos malditos con .50s and tactical armor arrived and attacked. Tus compañeros surely toldja the rest, now my boys and Peyote are stuck in the airport, the SWAT boys are around it, and the cabrones are scattered all around and in-between."

There was a second of tense silence as an explosion rocked the area and a fireball blossomed in the upper floors of the building.

Whittaker sighed again. "My, my... Miss Vercai, Mister Cadavero, remind me to invite you both to a cafe soon enough so you can conduct those negociations in peace. Harvey - I mean, the boss would appreciate if the matter was settled quickly. I'll take care of the rest, please leave for now."

The demon woman scoffed and left in a daze of pink, while the skeleton merely straightened himself and spoke harshly.

"I've got two dead, and a civvie woman took a round of .50 between the eyes. I will be at both funerals and I expect you to be there too, Jonas. Don't forget the flowers."

He snarled in his phone, giving orders to his men.

"Evac ! SWAT is taking over the airport. Leave our dead, we'll retrieve them later. Make sure it doesnt get messier !"

He let his cigar fall on the ground, stomping it with his boot.

"I hope you know what you are doing, Agent Whittaker. It has gotten dirty enough."

Mazok was soon thudding into view, his dakka gun in hand and armor clanking as he approaches the SWAT team. skidding to a halt and standing tall, at least double the height of most of the men. he looked for a leader among the humans and kept his weapon pointed away from people as he looked at the people. "Oi,where'z da boss of this? i'z here to foight some bad'z with my dakka and choppa." he spoke honestly with a accent that gave the impression of a warrior. eyes looking up at the detonations upstairs, "uhh... we'z should deal with dat."

As the ork came into view, a man with white hair and beard came to him. His tone of voice was calm, but a certain stress was palpable under the still surface.

"Jonas Whittaker, FBI. Glad to see you. I called for pro heroes, but apparently there's another situation in town they have to manage, so you're the first to get here."

While talking, he grabs his phone, and checks something quickly. He seems to be scrolling through hero profiles.

"I'm sorry if I don't know you outright, I've been affected to the hero department; before I was in the anti-organized criminality division, so I know villains better than heroes. My apologies. You're... Warboss Mazok, is it? From Ethiopia, came to the US to work as a pro hero, specialized in weaponry and close-combat... Well, you seem to be a perfect match for the situations. Alright, let me give you a quick rundown of the situation once I've catched my breath."

He sighs loudly, taking in a great quantity of air.

"So. An unknown armed force has taken over the southern half of the main building. They have tactical equipment and heavy weaponry. They are hostile, and engaged the other present forces, their numbers estimated over 50."

As he speaks, his talkie-walkie, hanging from his belt, crackles with communications from SWAT team leaders and other FBI members.

"They also seem to have a very good tactician, and they are elusive. In between pinpoint assaults on our positions, they are almost invisible. And I'm not talking in the "super" way. We can't get even an inch of their boots on CCTV, and our heat sensors don't find them either. They probably have tech support for this assault. Expect .50 weaponry, and explosives. Probably rockets, too."

He shows you a map on his phone.

"Blue area is where our SWAT teams are deployed. We're trying to force them out of parking 4, but they have trapped the area. Green area is where an armed third party is. They are not hostile, and should not be engaged under any circumstance. Make sure they don't get overrun by the attackers, and this is a preimary objective. FInally, red area is where the hostiles have been spotted, and grey areas are situation unknown."

He ruffles his hair.

"I don't really have anything else to tell you, except good luck maybe."

he considers the information, hand stroking his chin for a good minute before speaking. "alroight, i'z gonna need some time to prepare and git some boyz togetha, can i'z ask you to gather some scrap and junk over here while i'z get'z ready to go in, also, are 'dere any hostages in there? dat's kinda important for my plan'z." as he spoke he slung his dakkagun on his back and got out his choppa. scraping at his arm with the blade causing flakes of spore material to tumble off.

Ah, great. Now they were looking up to me for advice. Well, what the hell could I say? That I didn’t know any more than them, that I had no god-be-damned idea of what was going on, nor why was the city in that state? C’mon Henry, you’re supposed to be California’s Warlock, not some kind of chicken unable to process questions! And the worst was that that was way easier said than done, of fucking course.

I was low on battery too, twenty, maybe twenty-five percent. I still had access to all my powers, unlike Jupiter, but I couldn’t use them, which put me in the same situation as her. Sike. Okay, concentrate, Henry. Caesar asked you a question, answer it. How much did our presence here stir the pot he asked…

I still had access to the Golden Eye, which was a really good thing. It meant I had access to the entirety of my sensor powers, and when you’re in the dark, nothing’s better than a good sensor. Okay. Golden Eye, activate!

Er. Why was it not activating?

Oh, by all the fucking nails of the black coffin, don’t tell me I need to recite the entire incantation again to gain access to it? God FUCKING, DAMMIT! I hate that incantation, it’s long and it hurts the tongue and it fucking makes people’s ears bleed. Ugh. Guess I really got no choice.

“I’ll tell you in a second. For now, the both of you plug your ears. Three, two, one…”

And I started chanting. The incantation of the Golden Eye was in ancient Carcosan, probably the most horrid language on that side of the planes. It’s a tongue that dates back to the founding of the city, sixty billion years ago, when the Carcos river was still a land a fishermen and hunters. And it was a tongue of pure evil. I hated speaking it, because its very concept entering our dimension was already damaging enough. And yet I had no choice, for the Golden Eye apparently had to be summoned again.

“[ivrath'eghnat'itiugh] - - - [mohi] - - [Igzar Carcosa num'vrg arghrath-ell] - [tel] - - [&-(_)"] - - - [II] - - - - [BEHOLD ALL GOLDEN EYE]”

My poor ears. My poor tongue too, my poor everything in fact. I looked back at Jupiter and Caesar. Good, they had their ears plugged while I chanted. I spat a glob of blood, and gestured them to signal them that I was done. Clearing my throat, I told them.

“So, I needed to re-establish a ritual I had ongoing, but now that it’s done, I should be able to tell you what’s around us… Just give me a second.”

And in my mind, the lid of the Golden Eye opened. I could feel the information surge inside, like a tide that had been held back by a dam… But it felt strange, too strange. The Eye was golden, and should be unmoving and unchanging… Why did it feel like its gold had rusted away? And why did I receive errors like these… There were too many things. It felt like I had forgotten how it felt to use the eye.

Take things one by one, Henry. One by one. I heaved, sighing heavily. I had gathered the information, but it was far from being perfect. It would do, one way or the other, so I told them.

“Alright so the place we’re in is roughly fifteen miles in radius, thirty in diameter and we’re at the epicentre. Apart from us, only those grey husks and people cleaning the rubble. Above us, a large energy spike, dissipating, which means we’ve got a huge fading beacon above our heads. Whether that was intentional or not, anybody with energy sensors or an aura can know that something is happening here.”

That was only the first part.

“The devastated area seems not to have reached downtown, as I can still feel the marker I had put on my house in East Ana. Our usual place on Lima street is gone though, as well as Lima street and the whole neighbourhood, in fact. I haven’t been further than that, because for some reason I felt really tired when I tried.”

I sighed one last time and finished.

“And finally, the Eye is reporting me a spatiotemporal error. Which means, after eliminating the various parasite factors, that there are three options. The first being that we are in an alternate universe identical to ours except that THIS happened. The second being that we have been sent travelling outside of earth’s observable radius and reached the next identical iteration of it. Since not even the Golden Man can travel that far, I doubt it’s this one. And the last option is that we are in our original world, but in the future. How far down the timestream I would not be able to tell, but we definitely would be. I must say, none of the three makes me particularly happy. Your opinion?”

While speaking, I tried and made a second tinfoil sheet for either of them to take. That said, it taxed me even more than using the eye, and I even had to spit bile on the side, as sneakily as I could – wouldn’t worry them in our situation. Finally, I tried and cloaked myself in whatever I could. With my powers simmering like a broken teapot, I managed to create a sheet of dirty yellow metal around my privates, and that was about all.

“Let’s be honest, if I had to choose someone to lead us outta here, you’re the choice, Caesar.”

1572922629341.pngmaxresdefault.jpg As Nikias walked through his underground factory, research facility, and multipurpose building he rapidly dispensed orders to his various underling. "Jensey, please make sure the 7 shipments of class 4 power armor are fulfilled and delivered today. Needless I tell you the consequences."
"Yes Dr. Télos."
"Warren, make sure the class 7 prototypes are properly outfitted with runes from class 35a."
"Yes sir."
"Elizabeth, please contact our suppliers in Mumbai, they raised the prices 3%. Make sure they lower them or we find another supplier."
"Yes Sir."
After dispensing dozens of orders he arrived in his private research facility. He sat down in front of a giant workbench. Placing his hand on the table the middle section sunk down several feet before a wheel hideen underneath with different projects on each platform rotated with a suit of power armor rising up. He quickly pulled out several tools from his storage spce and began working on it once again, trying to perfect it's form all the way down to the atomic structure. However as he was working an urgent notification got his attention, causing him to split a small section of his vast magucal and mental powers to scan the notification.
More trouble... ugh and he was mandatorily required to help due to his recent inactivity on the hero scene... for now he would send automatons which he would control with a fragment of his consciousness remotely. He sighs casting a few spells, causing 7 robots to appear from nowhere. Placing his hand on each of them injecting mental energy into them before teleporting them to the LA crater.
