Answered Stars with new alerts?

Hey, so I keep seeing these star symbols under new alerts.

I’m wondering if these are a bug or a new feature and if so, what does it do?

It's something to do with read and unread, I think. It seems to go away sometime after I read the thread the alert's for, just not immediately.
