Futuristic Starpath: Burning Sails [IC] [CLOSED]

Karina, standing nearby in her combat armor with her rifle slung onto her back, folded her arms as she glanced over to Jackson. "I agree with Shuren. We should hope that we're not needed till later. The outpost has defenses that would shred this ship. And if we run and gun, we might get the VIP killed. That or the corvette could begin an emergency takeoff, leaving us here to deal with Yscom forces."

"If there's less of a chance of getting spotted, then I say we drop down." suggested Typhon again.

"No harm in a bet among crewmates. Just don't take them too seriously." Petar said while checking his watch "I want to say that we wont be needed, but I got a feeling. Give em another two hours tops."

Jackson checks his watch while he paces and then lights up another cig. "Fuck man they're takin' their time. Guess I owe ya." He sighs and then goes looking for a quick drink.

"Alright. We'll climb down. Watch your asses now, and take it slow." said Lauren, motioning towards a path leading down to the side of the cliff. She kept an eye on the guards up atop the ridge, making sure that they weren't being too vigilant. The others made their way down, and began to scale down the cliff to the ground inside the clearing. Afterwards, one by one, they would make their way across the clearing, slipping behind the various pieces of construction equipment and parts lying about. Those with cloaking devices fared far better, since they could simply stroll right on across unless a drone zipped overhead.

Soon enough, the group reached the central complex's lower level, which seemed to be mostly completed. There were various large industrial crates and machinery scattered about, as well as hazard signs which were placed around parts of the flooring. Apparently these particular places were fairly weak, and prone to breaking if bumped hard enough. There also seemed to be dog like robots patrolling the lower levels, with built in spotlights which pierced the near blackness that filled the area. Quietly, they proceeded through the lower levels, taking their time and patiently avoiding the drones as they made their patrols.

Eventually they would arrive on the second level of the complex. It was mostly built, but nowhere near the state that the lower levels were. Bare paneling and halls, with a listening post sitting in the center of the area. There were guards inside, along with various pieces of communication equipment as well as makeshift tables with refreshments scattered about. There were also boxes scattered about the listening post. The boxes seemed official, and appeared to have uniforms and other personal gear stashed inside of various sizes.

That box of uniforms may come in handy. Perhaps if they could distract the guards, someone could grab them. "Anybody feel like playing dressup?" he whispers, gesturing towards the box.

Nara sighed, looking around to see there were a few people within the listening post. "I got an idea. Make sure you knock those guys out, I can provide a little musical distraction from the distance. If we're lucky, they might come towards us."

Nara crawled behind the others, opening up her guitar case, playing a little tune with her guitar. It wasn't loud per say, but something to attract the guards.

As Nara began to distract the guards Nathalie, whom was still invisible to the naked eye, circled around the guards. Slowly she un-sheated a vicious dagger of Haalsiani design with extra teeth on both sides to cause as much damage as possible. Currently it was being cloaked as well untill her hand would move away from her body.

Once the guards caught wind of the music Nathalie made her move, going for the two most heavily armed hostiles. A quick slice against the throat should do the trick on the first one followed by three rapid stabs on the second guard...

Along with Nathalie, Typhon also raises his gun, ready to put holes through any guard that approaches.

Refinery Clearing - Central Structure (Second Level - Listening Post) - Surprise Attack
Nara = 8. Chance Roll: Successful. Three CorpSec Grunts drawn away from the Listening Post.
Nathalie = Stealth Kill x 2 (Phantom Protocol). CorpSec Grunt #1 & #2 Dead.
Typhon = 10. CH Roll = 6. Does 3 DMG to CorpSec Grunt #3. CorpSec Grunt #3 HP = 1.

Lauren = 5. Does 1 DMG to CorpSec Grunt #3. CorpSec Grunt #3 Dead.
CorpSec Grunt #4, #5, and CorpSec Specialist alerted to presence (Gunfire.)

As Nara began to strum on her instrument, the grunts inside the listening post began to hear the faint music coming from nearby. The specialist was the one that spoke up, however. "Go check it out." he ordered simply, motioning for three of the grunts to go investigate. They complied, grabbing their weaponry and heading towards the source of the sound. "Hide." said Lauren quietly, motioning for them to move into the shadows nearby. As the guards arrived, the group pounced. Nathalie slit the throat of one of the guards, before stabbing the second one viciously as she decloaked. The third guard didn't have time to react, as he was promptly shot to death by both Typhon and Lauren.

The gunfire alerted the remaining grunts and specialist inside the listening post, whom quickly took cover before firing off a few shots in the group's direction adjacent to them. The specialist immediately began trying to get his allies on the radio, cycling through the channels on his personal comms. If they were to continue the mission without having to deal with a heavy firefight, Scalpel team would need to eliminate that specialist quickly.

One Turn before Reinforcements Arrive.

--------------------------------
Lauren leaned as flat against the wall as she could, dodging a few bullets fired off their way. "Shit! Take that fucking officer out before he squeals to his buddies!" she said, leaning out during a pause in the gunfire and firing off several shots from her SMG towards the Specialist. He was crouched behind one of the crates, hand to his helmet every few seconds after firing off an assault rifle burst at the group. The other two grunts were nearby in their own cover, burst firing at them with their own SMGs.

Lucy had remained quiet, docile, and in the shadows with the group as they had advanced their way through up to the listening post. It did not seem that her suggestions or analytics would be particularly heeded among the others within the organic social hierarchy. Still, it mattered little to her, as she was here for learning and enjoyment most of all.

She understood the need for stealth and remained in cover when they silently took out the guards. She had no ranged weapons or cloaking, and Nathalie had already positioned herself to eliminate the guards when they came to investigate the music.

However, once the gunfire erupted, it was clear things were going to heat up very quickly. She could detect the subtle wiggles of radio waves and EM radiation in the air as the officer attempted to call in for reinforcements. Lauren was clear on her orders - kill the officer.

Lucy let out a quiet burst of static to herself, almost like a sigh, as she knelt on the ground and splayed her claws out wide so that she was in a position to crawl like a four legged animal. Her construction and design, and lack of organic sinew, allowed her to take positions that would be otherwise uncomfortable for organics. She could manage a fair sprint on her arms and legs for a little while. Her back arched and her legs adjusted against the floor as she prepared to take off, and take off she did. There was no hesitation or concern to the other guards. Her one and only target was the comm officer, and she wanted to pounce on the organic like a feral tiger and rip it to shreds.

"Uh oh." Grommy said as their quiet venture quickly turned into an unquiet venture. The rest of the enemies were in the listening post. This was a good time than any to knock out that wise guy. Once several guards were killed in action, Grommy crouched ran to the listening post, gunfire be damned, he was focused on the specialist. He tried to get up close and needed to put him out.

He tried to tackle him to the ground, socking him in the nose if it worked.

Meanwhile when Nara's little tactic worked she celebrated arms in the air until gunshots rang. She widened her eyes, hairs standing up and crouched in cover. "Woah." She exclaimed while rounds traced across the place, taking a peek.

"Idiots!" Kalashi shrieks to the rest of the group before jumping to action. Drawing out her weapons and keeping watch for any other grunts entering her field of fire for the rest of the team poured everything they had into that specialist.

===

Pearl panically dashed behind a mostly finished wall, getting into some hardcover. Taking a second to recover her posture. The Sanghvi then opened up a holo display on her visor and attempted to break into the enemies com channels. Trying to get an edge over them.

"Nara! Get down!" Yelled Nathalie as she crouched down into cover and readied her hand cannon. Peeking up she tossed a small jamming grenade. Hopefully it would disrupt the enemy tech long enough for the others to take them out.

FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT-“ growls Typhon at his suppressor. Looks like his equipment is failing him just as much as his body is. But now’s not the time to get angry at equipment failure, reinforcements would soon be upon them if they didn’t act quickly.

The others were drilling down the specialist really hard; even Lucy started doing that spider walk thing again. So Typhon pops out of cover and aims at one of the grunts, squeezing the trigger and praying his shots are concealed better this time.

Lauren's shots clipped the Specialist as he popped up to fire another burst, the kinetic rounds slamming into the side of his chest plate and stumbling him. Then, Lucy came sailing into the listening post, her razor sharp claws slicing cross the man's helmet. He spat some sort of curse, but Jericho's blade carving a gash through the back of his armor forced him to yell out in pain. Grommy would be the one to finish the man off, though, knocking the man down and them slamming his large rocky fist straight into the man's face. His helmet caved in under the impact, and the man's head was smashed like a grape. The enemy wouldn't be getting any reinforcements, even if they managed to find a radio nearby, as Pearl hacked the enemy comms. Nathalie's attempt to silence the listening equipment and radios proved less that fruitful, as her grenade bounced off the metal frame of the listening post and rolled down a nearby hallway before going off.

This left only the other two grunts, one of them being dispatched rather quickly by a burst from Kalashi and Typhon's weaponry. Their rounds ripped through the man's armor, putting him down quickly. The remaining grunt turned his weapon on the closest enemy to him, which was the machine called Lucy. He panic fired, releasing an automatic burst of fire into Lucy's body as she turned about to face him on the ground like a spider.

--------------------------------
Lauren took aim again, moving out of cover and firing off a burst shot at the remaining grunt. They needed to put this guy down quickly so they could get moving.

Only one left, and Typhon was going to make this kill a special one because of the trouble he almost got the group in. Instead of firing his gun again, he charged at the man, determined to rip his helmet off.

Lucy skittered over the corpse of the dead comms officer that Grommy finished off. She was momentarily startled by the burst of automatic fire peppering her synthetic body, tearing a small chunk of snyth-flesh padding out of her arm, and her heard twisted around to look at the perpetrator. The remaining grunt.

Without further hesitation, she pounced towards the man with her claws outstretched again. She saw Typhon out of the corner of her optical sensors and, subtly with her foot, altered her track so that she would slash at the man's legs so as not to crash into Typhon.

With the fight all but won Nathalie saw no reason to waste more rounds on someone who was so obviously about to die a (horrible) death. She moved up towards the dead specialist and did a quick inspection of his gear. Maybe there was something to salvage?

Refinery Clearing - Central Structure (Second Level - Listening Post) - TURN 2
Lauren = 5. Does 1 DMG to CorpSec Grunt #5. CorpSec Grunt #5 HP = 3.
Typhon = 7 + 1 (Deathwish.) Does 1 DMG to CorpSec Grunt #5. CorpSec Grunt #5 HP = 2.
Lucy = 10. CH Roll = 2. Does 2 DMG to CorpSec Grunt #5. CorpSec Grunt #5 dead.
Nathalie = Automatic Chance Success. Item(s) Recovered: CorpSec Specialist ID Badge, CorpSec Specialist Personal Radio.

Lauren's SMG gunfire ripped through the man's cover, the bullets piercing into his armor and knocking him away from the crate he was behind. As he stood, both Typhon's hands and Lucy's claws connected with the man. As Lucy's claws severed the tendons in the back of the man's legs, Typhon's hands latched on to his helmet and pulled it off as he fell. He collapsed immediately, and quickly began to choke to death on the poor atmosphere around them.

While the others took down the remaining grunt, Nathalie decided to investigate the dead Specialist's body, looking to see if she could find anything special among his gear. After a few moments of digging through the equipment on his person, she found his personal radio as well as an ID badge. Both would likely prove useful.

Lauren strolled over as soon as the other man was dead, glancing to the others. "Good work. Guessin' we got the bastards before they could call anyone." she said, reloading her SMG before looking to Nathalie, whom was holding the ID badge in hand. "That looks important. Anyway, let's check out these uniforms." She then stepped around into the listening post, walking over to the box which contained the uniforms. After a brief investigation, it was discovered that the uniforms fit some of the team but not all. Some of them would have to continue on in their standard gear. "Well, we got two choices. We can either just keep going with what we got, or some of us can play dress-up. I imagine there's another team up ahead guarding the way to the hyper-rail platform, and we all need to get through if we're getting this fuckin' job done. Not just some of us." said Lauren, turning to face the rest of the group.

The guards were dead and the fighting was over. Time to snoop around in the shadows again. Nathalie had the right idea to loot the bodies for anything they could use, but before Typhon can do the same, he needed to check on the others as he could've sworn he saw a few take hits.

"Who's hurt?" he asks the others.

The firefight came to a halt, leaving Nara to peek upwards with Grommy gesturing her to come out. "Hey Nara, uh you alright?" Grommy leaned forward, raising an eye. Nara rubbed her mouth, watching the bodies. She look at Grommy who had blood on his hands. "Is this the part where I become mentally shocked and I have to talk about my first experience in combat?" Nara asked to Grommy.

"You don't have to if you don't want to." Grommy assured, putting Nara at ease. She stood up hearing Lauren talk about playing dress up. She did always want to be an actress. Nara raised up her hand, nodding with confidence.

"I honestly think we should get disguises if we want to get in. It brings more of an advantage than crouch walking across the entire place while robots are floating around. But, it depends how many uniforms we have. It should be Thighs and Ms. L first." She pointed towards Nat and Lauren.

Nathalie inspected the ID-badge and the radio. After tucking away the badge for later use she started to fiddle with the radio. "I'm fine, no wounds," she said to Typhon as he asked for a casualty report. Once the question came down to disguise themselves Nathalie shrugged. "I'd rather stay cloaked but if anyone can pull off a disguise it'd be me," she said with a smirk.

As the others continued the debate Nathalie attempted to link the enemy communications to those of Scalpel so that the latter could listen in. It would be a one-way connection, audio only.

"I am uninjured," Lucy announced to Typhon as she sat crouched beside one of the corpses, inspecting it like it was a cut of prime meat to be served up. The man who had his helmet removed - and shot her - appeared to be a typical specimen. However, the partial asphyxiation from losing his helmet had caused hemorrhaging in the tongue. This would not be a viable piece to collect. It had to come from a live individual, or from a body deceased in breathable atmosphere.

She stood in one fluid motion, head turning to inspect the light damage on her left arm. The synthflesh was missing a small chunk and a slight portion of her metallic exo-skeleton was chipped. Both could be easily repaired. In fact, the synthflesh would likely slowly self-repair as it was still rich in rejuvenants. She'd have to inject more of that into the artificial flesh at some point if she took any more damage. Without a circulatory system and other biological functions to heal, it was up to her to manually add the material needed for self-healing.

"D-d-disguises are useful and i-i-interesting," she commented, glancing around at the crates. "I do not believe any w-w-would fit my form, however."

Even though Lucy had already inspected the damage done to her, Typhon decides to survey it himself in case he needs to give her a second opinion. There's not much he can do here though, seeing as he's a doctor and not an engineer. So, he stuffs the synthflesh wound with some iodine strips and tightly closes the wound with a bandage. On it is a little note telling her to see him later once the mission was over.

"Only disguise that'd fit you is one that'd rot within the next hour." he says, snidely at her. "Come see me in the med-bay when we're done here, I might have something that can fix that."
