It was during the seventieth foundation festival in Tao Village that the High Shaman recieved a vision of the future through his Sigil. This vision foretold the birth of two children, one to wield a Sigil of light and the other a Sigil of darkness. Together these two would lead their village to greatness, or to ruin.

As foretold, a decade later two babies were born. A black-haired girl to the Chieftian and Chieftess, and a white-haired boy to the High Shaman and High Priestess. Assuming their hair colors and genders were tied to their future Sigils, the girl was named Yin for the feminine dark energy while the boy was named Yang for the masculine light energy.

Raised with the expectation of becoming the black Sigil wielder of the prophecy, Yin was trained to hunt by the village's Head Huntsman and taught to lead by the Chieftess.

However, Yin had no interest in hunting innocent animals, being a vegetarian herself. She instead took an interest in the work of the village craftsmen and women. In the beginning she learned from observing the craftspeople at work, until she met Sang Wu.

The master craftsman took her under his wing in secret, teaching her not only the ways of a craftsman but also in many other aspects. Sang Wu's mentorship inspired Yin to take a vow of pacifism, albeit pacifism through combat. To help her keep this vow he trained her in the art of Ba Gua, a martial art focused on turning the enemies own attacks against them. After some training in Ba Gua, she was also taught to use a staff to enhance her Ba Gua.

Tricks/Explanation-

Sprite: Acts as both shield and projectile. Can be generated for a long length of time exactly once at a time. Burns through anything it touches and can release a pulse that nullifies other tricks that enter its range.
Gateway: Opens a gate between any two locations. Objects that fall through the gate begin to burn. Portal can be very large.
Truth: A skill unique to White Sigils that allows the Latent to see lies written on another Latent's Sigil.
Flight: A trick that allows the Latent to generate burning wings for a short time.
Commune: Speak to nature. Gain the assistance of animals and plant life. Can use this for mobility.

Conversely to Yin, Yang was raised with the expectations of becoming the white Sigil wielder of prophecy and as such was taught in the spiritual ways of the tribe by the High Shaman, while being groomed to lead by the Chieftan.

But much like his betrothed, Yang had other aspirations. So, he convinced his elder brother and War General Hun Qi to train him for combat. Yang became proficient with broadswords while also training to master the art of Krav Maga.

Tricks/Explanation-

Blast: An average projectile that violently pulls targets rather than pushing them.
Shield: Creates a very tough square shield in front of the Latent.
Vector: Put objects into a hold. When the Latent releases the hold, the objects accelerate in the originally intended direction all at once.
Unseen Hand: Grapple onto objects with a black aura. Objects maintain their momentum as they're moved.
Weapon: The Latent produces a weapon of the same color as their Sigil in their palm. The weapon is nigh-indestructible but requires a lot of energy to use.

He was born in the village of Edosia, where the founders decided to create a society based off of traditional Asian culture. As a result, they incorporated the fashion from that time, as well as the customs, allowing for samurai, ninja, and other similar occupations and activities. The main difference was that females were allowed to participate in such activities as well.

One of the customs of the village was to have a Trial of Adulthood. Once children reached the age of 18, they would be taken into the nearby woods and left there to survive virtually alone. There would be a small group of adults who had successfully passed the trial before that would keep an eye on them from afar, only swooping in to save them if it was absolutely necessary. If someone needed to be saved, they would automatically be disqualified and told to try again the next year. The task would be to survive for a week, forcing them to learn to forage, make shelters, navigate, and defend themselves.

However, in a turn of events that no one saw coming, Meraki’s life, along with the lives of his fellow participants, changed for the worse. While the entire group of participants, along with the accompanying warriors, were out of the village, it was ransacked and burned to the ground. Due to the distance of the forest from the village, the group didn’t find out about the carnage until the week was up and they were finally returning. As the warriors, new and old, searched the ruins for survivors and saveable items, Meraki knelt down before the ruins of his old home, clutching a charred pink ribbon that he recognized to be his sister’s.

As he cried, the sky joined him in his sorrow, raining water and stars. As if the universe heard his mourning and anger, he cried out as his sigil activated for the first time, shining bright blue. Almost immediately, he unconsciously used one of his new powers to identify what had caused the destruction of his village. From then on, he trained until he grew powerful enough to take revenge. After his success, he chose to explore the lands alone.

Tricks/Explanation:

Blast: An average projectile. Has no power, instead affects the properties of anything it impacts. Reduces the impact of other tricks, makes sharp items dull, stuns humans, etc.
Shield: Creates a weak shield around a target that works in reverse. Anything can enter it, nothing can leave.
Absorb: Absorb the knowledge of an object. Written words are memorized, and mechanical knowledge is gained. Does not damage the object.
Stimulate: Cause an object to undergo its natural change earlier than it should occur. Makes objects burn faster, flowers bloom early, walls crumble earlier, etc.
Perspective: Switch any two objects of similar shape and size. Works on humans. Rare skill.
Premonition: See possible futures. Very short time period, and a very rare skill.

From as long as she can remember she had no family (she doesn't remember anything before 6). No one to tell her she was loved or help her with things. When she was 7 she was nearly starved to death and someone found her and "took care of her". They didn't show her love but they put a roof over her head, food in her stomach, and made sure she learned the basic skills

Gweneth believed that was love until she became 16. She had a conversation with a therapist she met in town. She talked to them and then began to go to sessions just to check in with herself. She realized she had an unhealthy image of love and herself.

Once 18 Gwen began to apprentice to become like her now friend Claudius (the therapist). At 20 she was able to start her practice and found it was really enjoyable. While she does still have an unhealthy image of herself she slowly is getting better.

Blast: A fast projectile. Has decent power, but slows an object down for a short period of time.
Shield: Creates a tiny shield at the palms. Almost impossible to break, but very difficult to use.
Repurpose: The Latent generates a pulse in a large radius around them. Anything within it comes under that Latent's control, including other tricks.
Copycat: Absorb an ability from another Latent when contact is made. The trick lasts for a short time.
