Paquin's day had started off fairly normal. She had done her usual morning routine before heading to the medical wing of the base. Everything was going smoothly until General Hux and one of the Knights of Ren had gone on a mission. Everyone who worked directly under Hux seemed lost without him commanding their every move. It wasn't until her break that everything seemed to become more chaotic.

She had taken a break from doing absolutely nothing in the medical wing, deciding to take a stroll outside of her heavily sterilized work area. She had heard from a couple of Stormtroopers' conversation that Kylo Ren was returning, the only warning being that he was about dock aboard the ship.

She had provided medical attention to the man immediately following the destruction of Starkiller Base, but he was unconscious at the time. She'd never spoken to the Knight before and she had no desire to either. From what she's heard of him, he was terrifying.

-

It wasn't until a few hours after landing on the planet that Hux and his companion finally reached the people they were to talk with. The whole mission was about making a deal with the planet, ambassadors coming from major cities to negotiate the details. The original details they had discussed were that the planet woulds supply technology and basic supplies, and in return no battles would occur on the planet. It certainly wasn't the greatest offer, but it's what the First Order needed at that moment in time.

Hux saw it fit that he bring along a Knight of Ren, to stand in for Kylo Ren, who was off completing his training at the moment. The Knights have had a prominent role in the rebuilding of the First Order since Starkiller Base, especially in the battle aspect of things, much to Hux's displeasure. Although he certainly tolerated the other Knights a lot better than Kylo Ren, he'd still prefer not having them around at all. But he couldn't ignore orders from Snoke.

"I sure hope you'll behave more civilized than your master." He hissed to the Knight beside him as they settled into a room in which negotiations would be taking place.

Kylo Ren, commander of the Knights of Ren, and so a force to be reckoned with among the First Order, was looking forward to his return. He felt immensely more powerful, and the temptation to return to the light was lessened since he had overcome his father.

What remained was a scar upon his face, and a scar at his gut, from the bowcaster. Those were constant reminders for why he would never return to the Light; they could never understand. It was why he had left in the first place. The Light were the inflexible. He remembered his teachings from Luke, and remembered how rigid and strict he had been, and how that was true of all those who fought for the Light.

Rigid. Uncompromising. Closed-Minded. ‘Not here.’ Well, General Hux had a stick up his ass, but besides him, this side was flexible and adaptive, able to change.

‘It was why you should have destroyed them all, Grandfather.’ He thought, and took a glance at his new helmet which resided on the seat besides him. There was no co-pilot on his trip back, and no crew. He had gone to Snoke with others, but had been left alone—so he returned alone. ‘They will only destroy this universe again by being unable to accept the one truth of this universe: everything changes. But I will finish it.’

As his ship docked in Hangar 6, he reached across for his helmet and put it back on. He knew that Hux and the others had seen him weak, but none of them needed to see that it had remained as a scar. Not yet. ‘It is only physical.’ He lied to himself as he rose from his seat and walked to the door of his ship, and climbed down the ramp into the hangar, where troopers in white were rushing about, clearly trying to look busy.

Their anxiety was palpable through the Force, and it made Kylo smile under his helmet. His eyes, however, soon trained themselves upon a woman who was radiating fear. “You!” He called out to her, and started to walk towards her, deciding she would be the easiest one to get answers out of about where Hux was, so he could get a briefing on what had gone on with the First Order. Or one of the other Knights. Snoke had claimed he recalled one from a mission.

~***~

Mira Ren was the only name the woman in black let herself be known by any longer, the rest of her past discarded. She did not know the man she was traveling with well, except to know he was a thorn in Kylo Ren’s side, but a boon to Snoke, which likely meant he was not the emotional sort. Mira went in with that assumption, returning from her missions in Wild Space for Snoke when Kylo Ren was taken out of commission to watch over the First Order in his stead.

She did not let herself be seen as anything more than another black knight, careful to eat alone and to always lock her door so none would see her. She did not fear being recognized, for she doubted anyone would know the Coruscant woman for who she had been, but she did not like the idea of being ‘humanized’. She had a reputation to uphold. A role to play.

All of the Knights did. They were the monsters of the First Order.

‘Not as emotionless as you ought to be.’ The thought crossed Mira’s mind as Hux hissed words at her as she settled into the seat besides him. She had decided her role here was bodyguard; she was hardly the diplomat, after all.

She crossed one leg over the other, but didn’t so much as turn her head to look at him. Not that it would matter—the helmet would prevent eye contact from being noticed by the ginger-haired General. “Of course, General.” As much as she wanted to throw a quip his way, or protest Kylo Ren being her master, of all things, she did not.

General Hux had a reputation, and though she cared little about it, those they were going to negotiate with needed to view Hux positively for anything to get done in regards to trade, and supposedly, they needed it. ‘I do not know why we cannot simply take from Wild Space.’ Yet, it was not her place to question it. Not publicly. Later, perhaps, she would bring it up. She had not gotten to speak with Hux about the plentiful resources in unguarded Wild Space.

Paquin couldn't help but watch as Kylo Ren's ship docked in the hangar. She was curious about him. She wondered how his wounds had healed, considering they had been horrendous when she first treated them. Although, she immediately regretted her decision to stay and observe, as soon as the towering man called out to her.

She cursed under her breath, her first thought was that she had done something wrong, but she couldn't think of anything that would have upset him. He had after all just stepped off of his ship. She took a deep breath to calm herself, knowing he could probably feel how nervous she was. 'He probably thrives off of people's fear.' The young medic couldn't help but think. With that thought, she straightened her posture and forced her legs to move forward towards the Knight.

She stopped at a midway point, letting him walk the rest of the way to her. "Yes?" She questioned, quickly adding a 'sir' at the end. As she waited for him to tell her what he wanted, she let her light eyes examine the helmet he wore. It was new, that was obvious. Especially compared to the rest of his attire. But the fact that it had less dings and marks in it did not make it any less horrifying.

Paquin could feel the eyes of passing Stormtroopers shooting fleeting glances in her direction. She could only guess what they were thinking. Some were probably glad that she was the one being called upon instead of them, and she couldn't blame them. Kylo Ren was a lot less intimidating when he was knocked out cold.

-

The General remained silent as he sat, watching the Ambassadors file into the room. He had to admit that he did feel more at ease with this other Knight. From the short while he's spent in her presence he's observed that she was much more disciplined than Kylo Ren. He had expected for the other Knights to have been as off the handle as Kylo. The red haired man was pleasantly surprised when a few days had passed without something being destroyed in a fit of rage.

He stood as the final Ambassador walked through the door, what was most likely a translator shutting the door behind them. He looked around at all the faces, a total of seven for each major city on the planet. They all seemed to be varying species, but that did not matter to Hux. He couldn't care less about what race they were, as long as everything went according to plan. He offered a tight lipped smile, knowing it most likely looked like a grimace. He had a difficult time displaying any facial expression other than a frown. But he knew he had to play nice, these people didn't travel a long way just to be snapped at. "I am General Hux, and this is Mira Ren, of the Knights of Ren." He began, the woman's name being the only thing he knew of her.

"We'd like to thank you all on the behalf of the First Order," He blabbered, beginning the negotiations soon after everyone had finished introducing themselves. Not too long into the negotiations had an Ambassador spoke up.

"What are the Knights of Ren, might I ask? And what is the purpose of them exactly? To frighten people? I" The question from the gruff old man was directly pointed at the Knight herself. Hux peered at Mira, gauging her reaction. Something like this most likely would have caused Kylo to snap, he wanted to see how she'd react.

Kylo did not know this individual, as he looked down upon her. She had recognized that he had called out to her, at least, and didn’t go scurrying off. She met him half-way, even, clearly not wanting to give him any reason to bring harm to her. Glances were shot their way from beneath covered helmets, and Kylo felt the smile remain on his lips as he assessed the situation and the new ship.

At least this woman was prompt and able to feign being unafraid in his presence, though her emotions gave her away. As did the hastily added ‘sir’.

“I need to know where General Hux is,” Kylo explained to the woman before him, gesturing out towards the ship, then, “I’m not familiar with this starship, so I do not know where the command center is,” he just assumed the ginger would be there, lording over everything, and waiting for Kylo Ren.

He wouldn’t just come to meet him, after all. He’d be a prat about it and make Kylo Ren come to him. He didn’t even send an escort! At least, Kylo couldn’t see anyone hurrying to him on Hux’s orders. For that matter, he didn’t even see Captain Phasma around. He would have bothered her for an answer if so. “At least, I assume he’s there, unless he’s still sleeping?” Did no one rush to wake him once Kylo Ren showed up?

Either way, this would get sorted, Kylo would get briefed on what had been going on with the First Order, and then he would set Hux back on the proper path—the path to destroying the Jedi. He doubted Hux was working on that now. The man was probably busy resource gathering, or some other nonsense.

~***~

Kylo Ren would have gotten a kick out of General Hux being nice, but Mira understood the necessity of these things. Hux was in a similar position; he could not just snap orders at these people and expect them to obey. They were not his soldiers nor his officers. In this instance, he did not have his usual power.

At least he was able to remember that, and so, Mira let him speak uninterrupted, and remained silent herself as she gauged the reactions of the others. ‘It would be so easy….’ But the mind trick only lasted so long. She could not permanently alter someone’s disposition. The mind trick was only for immediate things. Perhaps if they needed a signature or something, it could be forced, but—

Her train of thought was interrupted when an older man addressed her, and she looked upon him. He would not be old enough to remember the Jedi Council or the Clone Wars—at least, she doubted it. She was not certain if this area of space even knew of those things, which meant any comparison she drew would be a moot point. “The Knights of Ren are an elite group of Force-Sensitive individuals that serve the First Order. Our purpose is the same as the First Order; we are here to bring Order to the universe and see that the Order is kept peacefully, once it is had, the way the Jedi Council used to do,” she utilized those terms anyway.

People liked the Jedi, after all. “If we frighten people, it is not our intent.” Yes it was. However, she couldn’t say such a thing in a meeting of ambassadors.

The girl relaxed, only slightly, knowing Kylo had not barked at her over something she did. She constructed what she was going to say in her head, in order for her not to stumble on her words. Paquin made eyes contact with him, or what she thought was eye contact. She let her eyes rest upon where his would be. <br /><br />

"General Hux is not aboard the ship at all. He, along with a Knight, left on a mission a few hours ago." She informed him. She did not know the Knight's name. Not a lot of people did, apparently. The other Knight of Ren wasn't as much of a presence on the starship as Kylo Ren was. <br /><br />

"I could lead you to the command center, if you'd like. I'm sure whoever was left in charge could help you a lot better than I can." She offered. Paquin wasn't sure who was left in charge, it never mattered much to her. She rarely left the med center, and rarely anyone, other than the occasional injured person, came into the med center. <br /><br />

'Of course the day I decide to free myself of the disinfectant stench, this happens.' She almost laughed at herself. She decided that from now on, she'd stay in the medical wing unless told otherwise. <br /><br />

-<br /><br />

It was clear that Mira's words relaxed the group of ambassadors. They had all been silent and tense during most of the meeting, wary about the Knights of Ren. Rumors were the only thing this planet had heard, regarding the dark warriors. Regarding anything really.<br /><br />

This part of space had managed to avoid the previous wars by making deals such as the one they were making now. While they were technologically advanced, they were not knowledgeable in the history of anything other than technology. Since they had been void of any battles or politics, the only things they knew of the wars were rumors and whatever they had been convinced of previously. Mira did well in comparing the Knights to the Jedi Council. The ambassadors had heard good things about it, even though the Council had been gone for several decades. They were convinced.<br /><br />

The old man nodded, leaning back in his chair. "I apologize if I offended you or the First Order in anyway. You must understand, we've only heard gossip from varying sources." He spoke to Mira, only briefly glancing at Hux.<br /><br />

Hux felt the corner of his lip twitch upwards. Mira answered well. Hux began thinking that he should take her on more missions with him. They would most likely go a lot smoother with her around, than with her fellow Knight. He made mental note to praise her later. "Now that you've heard this information, I trust you'll make the right decisions in the matter of our deal."

 ‘Perfect.’

Without General Hux present, it would be easy to take command. Kylo Ren was, technically speaking, of the same rank, although few treated him with the same respect. They saw Hux as their General, and Kylo Ren as something not in the chain of command—or at least, not in their chain of command. “Which Knight?”

Then Kylo waved a hand, “Never mind, it doesn’t matter,” whoever it was, so long as Hux didn’t try to get them killed, there would be no issues. “Take me to the command center, I would like to see who’s in charge,” and then give them new orders. When Hux returned, he’d have to go along with them.

At least, such was Kylo Ren’s hope. Perhaps Hux would be gone for days. ‘No, someone will reach out to him, and he’ll come running back.’ Still, Kylo could hope for a bit of a reprieve so the First Order could actually do something useful.

When the woman began to lead, he asked, “What is your name and position here?” It would be good to know, he supposed.

~***~

Mira could see the approval, and more than that, feel it. She did not stretch herself thin the way that Kylo did, taking some of the Jedi lessons to heart about focus over passion. Then, however, she let herself feel out the emotions to make sure her words had the desired effect.

At the apology, she shook her head, “I thank you for asking, it shows you are wise and cautious in your dealings,” her head inclined slightly, as if in respect. It was mock, of course, but the mask kept her expressions from being seen, a fortunate boon. “As the General has said, we hope that we will have positive dealings with you in the future.”

She did not know if this group would need time to think on it, although she suspected they would. They would want to chat without the presence of the First Order, to make sure they were in agreement. Mira would not press for an answer, but if it was time to leave to allow for such discussion, she would rise to follow Hux out.

For the moment, she remained as she was, prepared for other questions if necessary.

Paquin panicked slightly when he asked which Knight it was. Luckily, he dismissed the question promptly. With his new demand, she gave him a nod and swiftly turned on her heel, leading him towards the command center. She walked as fast as her short legs would allow her, eager to return to her work. She barely registered his question. <br /><br />

"Um, my name is Paquin Kent. I'm a medic." The words were mumbled to him as she stopped, pressing a button on a lift. It was a large ship, the command center being on the middle level, towards one end of the craft. There were a few levels to the ship, and it was hard to navigate inside of for someone familiar with the place. Even harder for some unfamiliar with it.<br /><br />

As the lift doors opened, she stepped in, pressing the button for the correct level. She knew others would rather be thrown in a trash compactor before being in a small enclosed space with Kylo Ren, but she was starting to feel a little more at ease in his presence. He had been abrupt, but not as rude as people had said him to be. And he hadn't made any move to harm her as of yet. But she knew that could change at any moment, so she remained well mannered.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

The old man nodded, pleased with the response he's received. "On my part, I'm confident that an alliance will be made." His words were followed by sounds of agreement from the other ambassadors. Hux had been sure that a deal would've been made one way or another, but he figured he would have had to work a little harder to convince them. <br /><br />

Hux spoke with the ambassadors briefly about numbers before they grouped together and spoke to each other. Hux sat back in his seat, but his posture remained straight. Hux would sooner be dead than have someone catch him slouch. Appearance contributed to the respect one receives, the ginger always made sure he looked more than presentable.<br /><br />

Hux glanced to his side at the woman, speaking quietly. His tone sounded sour, but that was not how he felt. "You did well. Though I'm sure you knew that already." And that was the most praise he'd offer. It was more than most people got from the General.<br /><br />

This time a different ambassador spoke up, "I do regret to inform you, but we would like to discuss the details further, in private. We have to take inventory, make sure that our deal won't impact our everyday lives. I sure hope you understand. We'll be more than happy to offer you your own quarters to stay in while we evaluate." <br /><br />

Hux had expected as much, "Of course. Take as much time as you require."

Paquin Kent. Medic. He was certain now that he’d heard the name before, though it seemed as if from a distance, in a hard-to-reach memory. Perhaps she had helped in some way. The memory did not seem to imply she was anyone terrible. He kept up easily with her pace. He could have passed her, but it would have served no purpose—he was not sure of direction in this ship.

So, he kept a leisurely pace as they made their way to the lift, and he stepped in with her, moving over to the back wall of the lift and letting his back lean against it. The doors closed, and the woman kept her poise even in the enclosed space.

Seeing as she wasn’t trembling too much, Kylo decided to continue with conversation, “What has been going on around here since my departure, Paquin?” He inquired, though he wasn’t sure if a medic would know much. He assumed she would at least have some idea of the major events and plans. At least, he hoped so.

The lift rose, heading towards the middle floor, and Kylo made a note of which floor the command center was on.

~***~

Everything did seem to be proceeding well. There was a positive feel from all of them, but also, the standard worry of entering into new territory. This allegiance would, after all, put them at odds with the Resistance. That could come back to haunt them. They would have to believe the First Order strong enough.

Mira tilted her head slightly towards Hux when he spoke, not enough to indicate eye contact, but enough to indicate she’d heard. Her lips quirked in a smirk beneath her helmet, “Thank you.” Odd praise—she had not expected Hux to sound so confident in someone else’s confidence.

Then again, she was a Knight. And so she was not surprised when the men decided they needed their privacy to speak. She rose, moved one hand over her heart and gave something of a half-bow to the group, before she looked to Hux to lead out. She’d be just a step behind—it would not due to lead out, even if she could go with the logic that he needed protection from what could be ahead.

Paquin settled into the far corner of the lift, crossing her arms in front of her. She turned slightly to face him as she answered. "I don't know much, but then again not much has happened." She began, "General Hux has everyone focusing on rebuilding, gathering much needed resources and such. I believe that is what Hux is off doing now."<br /><br />

Things were a little hectic, the First Order hurrying to reconstruct in case the Resistance were to plan an attack. Paquin typically stayed out of that that, though. Focusing more on her work in the med center. Recently she hadn't been as busy as before, since there was no fighting taking place, or anything in which someone would get injured.<br /><br />

"I think the General is trying to go about rebuilding quietly, so there's been no raids for supplies, nor do I think there are any planned." She continued as they reached the middle level. She stepped out of the opened doors first, briefly pausing to wait for the masked man to follow.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

Hux stood, briefly shaking hands with each of the men. He nodded at Mira as he lead them out of the room, the ambassadors following suit. The old man had spoke to one of the guards that was stationed outside of the room before turning to Hux and Mira. "I have arranged for you two to be escorted to your apartment. I hope you don't mind sharing one, it has separate rooms for each of you, but a joined living area and such." He informed them.<br /><br />

The red haired man would have preferred his own space, and he figured the Knight would have as well. But he didn't want to make a fuss, so he nodded. "That's no problem at all, we appreciate your hospitality." He and Mira would have to live with it. It was only for a short while, anyway.<br /><br />

They immediately were lead away from the ambassadors and down a few halls. Hux saw that they were approaching a lift. He wasn't sure if he'd have another chance to mention it to the Knight before they get to their shared quarters, so he leaned close to her to speak, "Check the room for anything that can be used to spy or harm us." He whispered. He figured she already knew to do that, but better to be safe than sorry.

Resources were important, and keeping a low profile must have seemed important to Hux, as well. Still, it made Kylo Ren shake his head, and almost laugh. Hux, the military man, so focused on building and not destroying. Though, that was to be expected—his weapon was gone. ‘We will pay them back tenfold for that.’ Another Starkiller would have to be made. A better one.

“That explains why you were out and about,” Kylo deduced as he stepped off the lift shortly after her. “Well, we’ll have to change them. We don’t have time to let the Resistance build up,” sure, they needed to rebuild, but they should at least be sending out raiding parties to destroy known Resistance bases.

They should be looking for Luke Skywalker. They knew now where the main base of the Resistance was, the information about Luke had to be there. That was the real threat. All of their rebuilding would be for naught if the Jedi rose. Hux should have seen clearly what a small group could do to them. If the Resistance attacked first, they were done for.

He would follow her on to the command center, the double metal doors making it obvious to him. With a wave of his hand, the doors would open before both himself and Paquin. He looked for the one who looked the most paranoid then, placing his bets that they were the one that Hux left in charge of things, and silently hoping it would not be Phasma. Phasma had enough of a backbone to stand up to him…frustrating, considering she was naught but an elevated Stormtrooper.

~***~

Mira would have preferred her own space as well, and this news was the first sign of visible agitation from her. One fist clenched, and then quickly unclenched. This was going to make life a bit difficult. She rarely took off the black, the mask, with anyone nearby save the other Knights. Yet, the attire was hot, and the mask left much to be desired in the realm of breathing comfortably.

She could only tolerate it comfortably for so long before the hot air and the sweat bothered her.

Still, such a protest now could be too detrimental. Mira would not ask Hux if she could simply go back to the ship—as he indicated with his whisper, she was needed here. She offered no nod since she was stepping onto the lift, and didn’t want to give away that he had said anything to her. She occupied the back, and as the lift came to a stop on the floor for them, also followed last, but she was attentive as the room was unlocked and the key was handed off to General Hux.

“We will send for you when we have come to an answer,” the man assured the pair, before he was off.

Mira walked into the room then and attuned herself to the forces within, living and non-living. Technology, while not a part of the Force, did have a way of altering the flow of it. It did not take Mira long to pinpoint a few cameras in the living space. ‘To be expected.’ But not agreeable. Destroying them would be suspicious, of course. So instead, she said, “It seems this place hasn’t been used in a while; there are a few webs about,” Hux was rumored to be clever. Hopefully he’d understand she meant cameras.

After all, there weren’t any spider webs about.

Paquin nodded along while Kylo spoke, a little worried by his words. Things appeared to be going smoothly with the way they were operating now, and it sounded like he aimed to change that. She said nothing, though. She was just a medic, she was not in a position to comment on war strategies or how to run the First Order.<br /><br />

She felt bad for whoever was left in charge. Not only were they about to be overthrown by Kylo Ren, presumably, but Hux would be very unhappy with said person when he returns. Paquin planned on booking it back to the medical wing after whoever was in charge greeted him.<br /><br />

It was obvious who was in charge, he was radiating anxiety, you didn't have to be Force sensitive to tell. Upon seeing Kylo, the man promptly marched over to him, trying to feign being unafraid. Much like Paquin had done. "Commander Ren, I'm the Lieutenant General. Captain Phasma was originally in charge, but she left it to me so she could attend to some business. She should be back soon, but in the meantime, I can assist you in whatever briefing you may need."<br /><br />

Paquin found it comical that Hux had left Captain Phasma in charge instead of the person who was directly under him in rank. 'Poor guy, not only will Hux be upset with him, but Phasma probably will be as well.' She thought.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

General Hux took the key from the guard with a nod. As soon as the man was out of site, he followed Mira into the room, locking the door behind them. He looked at Mira as she spoke, immediately catching on. It was clear that the place hadn't been used in a while, but there certainly were no spider webs.<br /><br />

Hux casually walked around the apartment, inconspicuously searching for any hidden bombs or weapons. He figured that Mira would have known if there were, but Hux wasn't a strong believer in the Force. He had to check for himself. Though he didn't seem to find any. "It doesn't look like there are any spiders about, though." He informed, making it sound like a casual comment.<br /><br />

Hux let out a short, almost inaudible sigh. The cameras weren't a huge problem, but they were irritating. He was now mildly annoyed that he had to share his quarters with Mira, and had to be careful of what he said and did.<br /><br />

He hoped the ambassadors would reach a decision soon. He had a feeling that he needed to return to the starship. It wasn't that he didn't trust Phasma, but since she was a busy woman, he presumed that she would've put someone else in charge temporarily while she was working. And that's what he was worried about. Who knows what that person would do with that power.<br /><br />

"You can choose your bedroom first." He said to be courteous, but he hoped she'd choose quickly. He needed a moment to relax, something that he would do away from Mira Ren's eyes.

This ‘lieutenant general’ was no one Kylo Ren knew off hand, so he assumed this Officer was not too important, despite his airs. “Good, Lieutenant General. I need a briefing as to what has been going on here, and any reports on the Resistant movements, as well as where the First Order currently has outposts.”

Get the briefing first, then start issuing commands, “I also need a run down of our numbers, currently,” that would have been a question for Phasma, no doubt, but this Officer ought to have some idea how many Troopers there were, “and which units remain,” Kylo knew several had been destroyed in the Starkiller Base incident. He was hoping that some DN’s remained, though. They were great demolitionists. Also the STs—stealth specialists.

If he was going to start making moves, he wanted the proper forces to do it with. ‘And no more FNs.’ He hoped the lot of them were all destroyed in Starkiller Base. He hoped Finn knew it—and felt guilt. Remorse. All the things a traitor ought to feel. “If you know any of these answers, Paquin, feel free,” a medic might have some idea about numbers, since she would need to keep a stock ready for the wounded and sick. She’d have to be properly prepared for any such incident.

“Oh, and, do we know where Luke is?” he asked it off-handedly, as if it weren’t the most important question to him.

And, briefly, he felt a tug, a pull, but he ignored it. He knew the source almost immediately, and knew then who had gone with Hux—it’d been a while since he felt Mira. She was always out in Wild Space; he’d have to ask what she’d found, when she returned here. Hopefully, what they were looking for.

~***~

‘For once I’m not paired with an idiot.’ Mira was unbelievably relieved by this. Usually, she was paired with someone who didn’t catch on quick; only Kylo Ren and the other Knights had seemed to catch on to her, and that could have just been because they were familiar with her.

She gave a curt nod at his mention of no spiders, but he did not make any indication to clean things up. Which meant she was going to have to deal with them, all day. The anxiety of it was uncomfortable; someone would have her on video without her helmet. She had to sleep. She had to eat, to drink, to do so many human things that she tried to deny in the presence of others.

None of this showed, not even in her posture. “Very well. Left,” she indicated with a gesture, before striding off in the direction of that door, “Should you need me, General, I will be within,” with that, she opened the door to the room that was designated as hers, and shut it, walking immediately to the bed and sitting down upon it to breathe, and then to try and meditate.

It would be difficult, given the circumstances, but that made it all the more important.

Meditate, and deny base needs.

Meditate, and hide. Wait and hope for an answer. ‘Hm?’ And, apparently, feel a strong pull in the Force.

Paquin was preparing herself to leave before Kylo included her in the conversation. She let her eyes wander over the lieutenant general. He didn't appear to be the kind of person who's work focused on the numbers and units. And she was right. <br /><br />

The man had no trouble, other than the occasional stutter, with briefing Kylo Ren. "We are currently working within what's left of Alderaan, Hux believed that the Resistance wouldn't think to search there. As far as the Resistance goes, they haven't made any movements as of yet, we're watching as best we can. And General Hux has mentioned building another weapon much like Starkiller. He wanted to wait until we were more stable." He spoke, and then hesitated on the subject of numbers.<br /><br />

Paquin quickly spoke up, knowing the subject matter well. She had to remain well informed of the numbers. She kept a a file containing that information. "We didn't lose many, most of the crew and soldiers made it off of Starkiller. We did lose the special units, such as the flame and snow troopers. As well as the FN unit." She informed. 'Except for FN-2187.' She thought.<br /><br />

She had no idea how to answer Kylo's final question. That she couldn't help with. The lieutenant general nodded in thanks to Paquin before turning back to Kylo. "Hux told us to that our goal was to rebuild, that Luke Skywalker was not a priority of ours. So no, we haven't found him, sir."<br /><br />

The red haired man gave a 'hm' in response to Mira, making his way to the room on the right. He opened the door as soon as she shut hers, slipping inside. He swiftly locked the door behind him before turning to face the room. It was more colorful, he found. Even though the colors were just brown and white, it was still colorful in his opinion. Especially compared to that of his steely grey chambers back on the starship base.<br /><br />

The pale skinned general let out a sigh, realizing he'd have to let whoever was monitoring the cameras see him while he de-stressed. He began removing any unnecessary articles of clothing, such as his gloves and coat. He placed them on a chair within the room before sitting down on the bed. Although he knew someone was watching, he let himself slouch, his back and shoulders thanking him for it. <br /><br />

Hux knew he wouldn't be able to sleep with someone observing him, at least not that night. So he attempted to occupy himself for several hours by doing some work he'd brought with him. Without any interruptions, like he usually had, he finished far quicker than he thought he would. But it still took him a few hours.<br /><br />

By then he'd grown hungry, his stomach alerting him of so. It was the early hours of the morning now, and he hadn't eaten since the previous morning. If he could live without eating, he would. Hux detested having to do something as simple as eating, but obviously it was necessary. With that in mind, Hux found himself slipping out of his room to eat. He was aware of how disheveled he looked, and he hoped that Mira wouldn't find him in such a state. However many people who had been monitoring them was entirely too many people to have seen him in such disarray, he didn't wish to add Mira to that list.

The Force flowed to him, a steady ebb from afar that Kylo let hum in the back of his mind. He listened to what the two before him had to say, filling him in on what had been going on. ‘Good.’ He thought as he heard all the FN’s were destroyed. They were a faulty group that needed eliminating, and so he was pleased to hear that they were dealt with.

He was not pleased by much else. Hux was gone for a stupid reason. “He couldn’t have sent a representative, like you?” Kylo all but sneered. He wondered who could possibly be so important that they demanded not just Hux, but one of Kylo Ren’s own knights. It had better be some group on par with the Hutt’s, but more reliable, to deserve General Hux and a Knight visiting them.

‘Or perhaps they went to destroy them and take over.’ Though Hux was not that bold. Far too cautious. Mira might be willing to do it, but even then she’d be rather…quiet…about it. Of all the Knights, she was the one who hid herself the best, to the point it frustrated Kylo Ren. She was meant to work through her emotions, after all, but Kylo rarely knew what she was feeling.

The Force shielded her, as it shielded Luke—a frustrating talent. “So you have been watching the Resistance and their movements, but you have not been monitoring the most important member of the Resistance?” Kylo asked, and it was not difficult to tell that the man’s answer was, most definitely, the wrong answer.

Except, he had placed the blame on Hux. That would spare him some. “Well, Hux does not understand what is important when it comes to the Jedi, and the Force. He does not understand these things,” Kylo waved it off. “If we still have the ST troopers, send them out to try and follow Resistance ships, particularly the Millennium Falcon. I want Luke found,” and that was the ship most likely to find him—nostalgic rebels.

“Give the command to the rest of the troopers to begin to organize to raid the Resistance outposts further from D’Qar. We’ll resupply from what they have, and destroy their own supplies. Take few prisoners, and only other officers—everyone else can be killed.”

He spoke with clear intention, and looked right at the officer through his helmet, daring him to challenge what was said. Right then, he was not too concerned with Paquin. She had given him the answers he needed, but she was in no position to help or hinder his cause at the moment. The only one in his way, potentially, was the poor lieutenant general who needed to decide how much he liked breathing.

~***~

Mira, quite honestly, would have never guessed the many things that she and Hux had in common, although if she’d thought about it, it would not have been surprising. Hux and Mira were dedicated to their ways, and both wanted to be superior to others, which meant, naturally, the primal things like food and sleep were detestable.

Mira managed to lock herself in a trance for a while, following the flow of the Force and keeping watch on their area through that, the way young Skywalker had once done when he had to watch Padme Amidala. Anakin, however, had been able to eat and to move freely.

Hunger roared at her, eventually, and shook her focus. Though she tried several times to regain it, it was a futile fight. After all, she had not eaten on the ship. She hadn’t eaten for as long as she’d been in the presence of Hux, and she was starving. She couldn’t live off the Force, try as she might, so in frustration she threw off her helmet and let the blonde braid fall down her back. It had been pinned up so it wouldn’t be revealed.

She did not storm out of her room, but exited it and walked right to the fridge. Water and the first container she set her eyes upon were grabbed, she didn’t even care what was in it, sustenance was necessary and she was not picky. A spoon was also hastily grabbed, as she figured any food could be eaten with a spoon, and then she turned with every intent to hurry back to her room, eat, and then shower. She’d already thrown the helmet off, she might as well complete the process. If she could just—

‘Shit.’

“General.” The word slipped, startled, and Mira wondered if her own steps had been too loud, if she had woken him by mistake. He looked tired, disheveled.

Immediately, the poker face returned, the startled expression vanishing to indifference. “My apologies,” her green eyes cast themselves down, an acknowledgment that this was not how either of them cared to appear to each other. Then, she started to walk back to her own room.

The lieutenant general's eyes widened as Kylo Ren questioned the decisions made in his absence. "General Hux saw it fit that he, as well as the Knight of Ren, were to go instead. Due to specific circumstances." He attempted to reason, his voice was small, matching just how he felt. Small and powerless. His nerves were at an all time high, worse than when Kylo had first arrived. <br /><br />

He stayed quiet as Kylo continued to bark orders. He wouldn't dare defy his demands, knowing that Kylo Ren's wrath would be far worse than Hux's or Phasma's. He'd rather be downgraded in rank than Force choked. "If that's what you think is best, sir. I'll organize that right away." He practically squealed, "Is there anything else you need?" He hoped that Kylo wouldn't need anything else from him, that he would command people on his own instead of through him. <br /><br />

"It appears I'm no longer needed here. If you'll excuse me, I'll be returning to my work." Paquin mumbled to the Knight, scurrying away from the command center. Paquin knew it was time to go as soon as Kylo began ordering people to be killed. It was unsettling to her, how someone could so easily command another person to be killed. She could never do that. And that's why she was a medic, not a soldier. She saved people, she wasn't a killer.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

Hux didn't have the slightest clue what Mira looked like under her helmet. Until now that is. He wasn't sure what he expected her to look like, but he certainly didn't envision her to be attractive. Hux mentally scolded himself for thinking of her like that. 'Inappropriate. Completely unprofessional.' He told himself.<br /><br />

He resisted the urge to smooth his hair back, remembering that he himself was not presented in a way he would approve of. He cleared his throat before speaking, "There's nothing to apologize for, Mira. I was already awake." He didn't mention either of their appearances as he slipped past her as she did the same to him.<br /><br />

As he was about to open the fridge, guilt ate at him. He wasn't sure if Mira was retreating back to her room because of him, or if it was simply because she preferred eating in private, but either way he called out to her. "Don't let me stop you, feel free to eat out here if you wish." He told her, proceeding to open the fridge and grab whatever was ready to eat. He didn't want to waste time on preparing a meal. <br /><br />

He examined it, deciding that it looked fine to eat. Grabbing a fork, he made his way to the table placed next to the kitchen. He could only eat at the table, something imprinted into his mind from a young age. His father was a stickler for order, anything and everything had to be done a certain way when he was a child. One of those things was eating, always eating at the table at a certain time. Hux had abandoned the time requirement as soon as he could. But if he ate anywhere other than at a table, he'd lose his appetite.

Kylo smirked under his helmet as his orders were followed, the lieutenant general executing them as commanded. “Not from you,” Kylo said as it was asked if he needed anything else. Yes, he certainly did need other things, and as he suddenly wished again for that blonde captain, he remembered Paquin.

She was just about to leave, too! She was far too useful for that, and much less afraid than anyone else in the room. He preferred that. The fear got things done, of course, but it hardly made the environment around him comfortable, “Paquin, I would like it if you returned soon,” he imagined she had patients to check on, or things to delegate, “I need a run down of all the troopers that are actually here, and then which ones can be called back.”

She had an idea of which ones were around, “Do as you need to do in the medical station, and then return,” he instructed as he walked to the central console and brought up a hologram. He flicked through several, bringing up the known Resistance bases and starting to map out their distance from D’Qar, as well as from Alderaan.

The planets they were on would dictate which troopers would be best, but first Kylo had to know which ones he had on hand to throw at the Resistance, and which troopers were too far to be useful.

~***~

As Mira started to walk, Hux acknowledged he had already been awake. ‘That’s right.’ She turned her own mind back to her exercises prior. She had been pretty certain Hux was still awake at the time. It seemed neither of them were good at sleeping in new places where they were being watched. That must be grand news for their spies. Hux and Mira would be at a disadvantage; they’d be tired.

Before she could escape, however, Hux spoke again with invitation to remain. Mira had never intended to eat out there in the first place, but it seemed that Hux did. ‘Regardless you must answer.’ And in a way that was inoffensive. She grasped at straws, but found none stuck. Either she offended Hux, or she gave away a weakness, and neither were appealing. She had no reason to offend Hux. He had turned out to be far more tolerable than she had expected.

Even so, he was not meant to know that she detested showing herself to anyone. Tolerable, yes, but they were hardly friends. He was her boss, less than Kylo Ren was, but still her boss. “Thank you,” she said instead, and turned back to eat the table, opening the container to reveal what looked smelled like some sort of yogurt, though the fruit was unknown to her. Still, the taste of it was quite good, once she brought it to her lips.

Nerves fried in the unusual situation, she could only ask, “How long will they keep us waiting?” It had been a long time since she’d eaten at a table. Not since before she was Mira.

Paquin raised an eyebrow at Kylo's instructions. In all of her ten years of being with the Order, she's never been this involved with anything outside of the medical field. "I can do that." She assured before continuing on her way to the medical wing. There wasn't much to do there, most likely. But there would be soon.<br /><br />

After Kylo Ren's orders are set into motion, there will most likely be some injured troopers. As she arrived at the medical wing, she alerted them of that. She briefly helped her coworkers do what some may consider to be trivial work. Such as disinfecting tools and double checking medical supplies. But it was vital, especially with the upcoming raid. Typically, Paquin only felt safe when they had enough supplies to at least put a bandage on each Stormtrooper. But with the current situation, they did not have that quantity of supplies. But she doubted they'd need that much.<br /><br />

Paquin huffed, pushing brown hairs out of her face. She grabbed her datapad from it's usual place on the main desk. It contained the file of all the Stormtroopers and crew, she figured it would be easier to show Kylo than to explain it to him. She still reviewed it on her way to the command center, just in case he had any questions.<br /><br />

In no time she found herself within the command center, standing next to the Knight. She held up the datapad while she spoke of it. "This has all the information you need in it. All the Stormtroopers are organized by units. It contains where they are, who's injured, who's able, and if they have a peanut allergy." It didn't actually include allergies, she was just comfortable enough now to crack a dumb joke. One that she knew would probably be unappreciated or ignored.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

Hux nodded at her thanks, proceeding to open his food. It seemed that it was just vegetables thrown together, a salad. Hux didn't care what he ate, as long as it wasn't poisoned. Which it wasn't, as far as he could tell. He sat in silence, stabbing vegetables with his forking and placing them in his mouth, until Mira inquired. <br /><br />

He wasn't sure how long they'd keep them waiting, if they weren't trying to assassinate them. Though he didn't believe they were, they'd had many opportunities. Still, he kept as aware as he could while being exhausted. He obviously couldn't say this to Mira with the cameras, so instead he settled with giving his best estimate. "I'd give them the day. The meeting ran late yesterday, they need time check and gather resources. Deliberate with each other." He calculated every word before he spoke them. He couldn't afford to accidentally offend anyone, he wasn't in that position.<br /><br />

Hux hated the position he was in, he wished he could just organize a raid upon the planet. He was a military general, not a diplomat. But he couldn't risk making enemies, the Order was in no shape to do much other than rebuild. They needed to make up for the TIE fighters they lost, the weapons, the people. 'If it weren't for that stupid map, we wouldn't be in this mess.' Hux thought bitterly.<br /><br />

Hux was beyond angry with Kylo Ren. The imbecile had thrown all Hux had worked for away, all for one man. The General decided he would not allow Kylo the same power he had previously possessed. He would not allow him to send his troops after a man that hasn't been seen in years. If Kylo Ren wanted Skywalker and the scavenger scum, he was not going to use the First Order. He would command his own Knights. The Jedi were of no concern to Hux.

Kylo Ren let himself be engulfed in his work and in trying to think like his mother, Leia. Now, if there was ever a brilliant strategist, it was her. A brilliant politician and a wonderful military leader, in some ways he did admire—she had a lot of Darth Sidious in her, for she wore many masks, but she was as committed to the light side as Sidious had been to the dark side.

The Officers moved around him as he organized the holograms and started to decide which planets would be best to target, anxious for the command to send the troops.

They didn’t expect Kylo Ren to be patient enough for the brunette to return, but he was, and his attention fell wholly on her as the young woman entered the room with the datapad. He accepted the pad, and quickly plugged it into the hologram projector.

Immediately the information lit up besides the planets as lists of all the active units. He gave a slight chuckle at the comment about peanut allergies, no doubt a surprise to many present. It was a rare person that ever thought to joke with him, and he truly appreciated it. Everyone here was so stiff. “Fortunately, there are no peanuts in the Resistance that I will send them to fight,” Kylo was rather impressed if such things were known about the many individuals here, though it was not information he was looking for.

Each unit had its specializations. He sorted through them, and then, sorted through groupings to start planning out where to send them, moving them to planets and organizing them so each group would be well prepared by other units that could bolster their weak points, and groups that were fit for the various environments they would be faced with. “I don’t suppose you know which ones have asthma, do you?” An off-handed question as he opened the SP group and looked at the planet with the rather thin atmosphere.

~***~

A day more. Mira convinced herself she could manage it, but she did not want to. She wanted to go right back to the Starship, or back to the base. “Very well,” she would have to endure, though. It was her job, after all, while Kylo Ren was away, learning more from the Supreme Leader.

It seemed both of their thoughts must have gone to him, for Mira felt the steadily rising anger of her companion and a smile graced her lips, “Careful,” she cautioned without explanation.

She did her best not to read his mind. It was an invasion of privacy, after all, and he was the General. Not to mention, it wasn’t exactly subtle—drawing information out tended to hurt the other. At least, if they resisted—and Hux would resist. “It will not be long before the First Order is on top again. We—”

And there Mira cut herself off, her attention shifting immediately upwards. The yogurt wasn’t finished, but she stepped away from the table, eyes trained up, feeling again for the distraction, the pulse of life she’d felt that was so suddenly gone.

The door out of the room suddenly clicked, locked. In another instant, the lights were cut.

Then Mira had her lightsaber in hand, and the blade’s red light lit the room. “General?”

The corner of Paquin's lip twitched upward, proud of herself for getting a chuckle out of the most terrifying man in the First Order. She laughed lightly at his response, it was rare for anyone to acknowledge her jokes, let alone quip back. She was glad to know that at least one person in the First Order had a sense of humor. <br /><br />

She let herself lean forward, resting her arms on the console in front of her. Her eyes roamed over the holograms as he sorted through the units, grouping them and pairing them with planets. She tried not to think too much on the fact that he was deciding who was adequate to pillage and kill. "Only one person in the SP group," she said, reaching over and removing the trooper from the group, hoping she wasn't overstepping any boundaries.<br /><br />

"It's rare that anyone with a defect like respiratory issues would remain active." Paquin commented. She had diagnosed troopers with asthma many times, and the very next day found herself removing their names from her files. She knew that the First Order essentially wanted the perfect army. The brunette sometimes thought it would be easier to have a clone army.<br /><br />

But then again, she was just a medic. She was not knowledgable in the aspects of war, nor did she want to be. She didn't have the guts for it. She was more than happy in her med center, taking care of people. And she would return there and continue on as soon as she was no longer needed by Kylo Ren.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

It took Hux a moment to realize why she was cautioning him, forgetting that mind reading wasn't their only ability. They could 'feel' everything around them as well. At times Hux found the Force handy, and most of the time he found it irritating. Mostly because Kylo used it as an excuse to put himself above Hux in terms of power.<br /><br />

Hux's eyes remained on his food as she spoke, knowing she was right. The First Order would rise again and wipe out the Resistance scum once and for all. People had to be controlled, everyone knew that. 'Except the Resistance, apparently.' He barely registered that Mira had stopped speaking, consumed in his own thoughts. His eyes darted up to her as she was backing away from the table.<br /><br />

He stood up himself, slowly stepping towards the blonde. "Mira-" He was cut off by the door locking, the lights shutting off. He cursed, remembering that his blaster was left in his room. He started towards his room to retrieve it, not acknowledging the hum of her lightsaber. He halted, however, when she spoke. "Do you know what's going on?" He questioned, indirectly referencing the Force. This would be one of the times that the Force was handy.<br /><br />

Hux figured that this must've been the assassination attempt he was worried about. But it was odd, the way they were going about it. Why make it dramatic when they could have easily slipped something into their food supply? Or set off an explosion as soon as they stepped onto the planet? <em>'Unless it's not the ambassadors...'</em> He thought, as he heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching the door.

The one with asthma was removed, and Kylo nodded approving, “Hopefully they’re good for something,” the SP group was a “special operations” team, which was why Kylo wanted to send them to the planet with the thin air. They seemed like the squad most capable of using the environment to their benefit. The DN team wouldn’t work so well there—the air wasn’t good for explosives.

“But, troopers aren’t my area,” Kylo waved a hand dismissively as he moved about other groups, going to the TR group and setting them on a base where they’d be useful in the close-range combat that was anticipated there. It was a shame most of them had been destroyed, as well. “I don’t suppose any of the other Knights have happened by the base since my departure, have they?”

Kylo was not privy to Snoke’s organization of the Knights currently, though he doubted others had been called back. He knew one was off on Korriban, gathering all that they could. The other two, he was not certain of their placements, but it was possible one of them had showed up. “Which one is it that came back?” He realized he had never gotten an answer to that, and now it concerned him as he considered plotting out raiding parties.

They’d be useful down the line to send with some of the groups, depending on who it was. They each had their areas of expertise.

~***~

‘Two.’ A pulse of life and a click above, and Mira understood what it was as the sounds of heavy footsteps paused just outside. ‘Poison gas.’

“Take a breath, and hold it.” There was a hiss from the vents, and Mira sucked in her own breath before stepping closer to General Hux, blade serving as the light necessary. She wouldn’t walk far from him, as she intended to use the Force to try and keep the poison away from them. Manipulating air itself was something a bit difficult, but not unheard of. It was where she excelled compared to Kylo Ren—her skills were all based on focus rather than passion, and this took focus.

After all, air was a good deal more difficult than just lifting a metal beam. There were many particles to juggle.

But, Hux needed his gun. When those fools came in to find the choking and dying First Order members, they would instead find two prepared individuals, and they’d be executed quickly.

The air did grow heavy and moist with the poison, as Mira led the way to Hux’s room which had been the first to have poison invade it. Following it was the living space, and then, Mira’s quarters.

"They must be, if they're still around." She commented. She straightened at his next question, she was practically useless in that subject matter. "Other than the woman, I'm not sure." She answered, turning to face him. She guessed that she would've been alerted of another Knight, but who knew. She was barely informed of the one who left with Hux.<br /><br />

"I don't know how many women are apart of the Knights of Ren, so I'm not sure that helps." Paquin knew next to nothing about the Knights, much like she did most things outside of her area of expertise. All she was aware of, thanks to Stormtrooper gossip, was that they were all Force-sensitive killing machines. 'A force to be reckoned with.' She inwardly laughed at her pun.<br /><br />

Sometimes Paquin wondered how she of all people managed to join the First Order, especially considering her past. Five year old Paquin Kent definitely wouldn't have expected to end up on a First Order starship, assisting an up and coming Sith lord. But nothing of her past mattered now. She was, for the most part, content. "I'm sure anyone else would be able to tell you who it was, specifically." She added, just in case he needed to know.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

Hux did as he was instructed, sucking in a breath and covering the lower half of his face. He shuffled along with her as she led them back to his quarters, carefully avoiding her saber. He saw what had happened to Kylo's face, and many times had he seen what that weapon could do, he didn't want the glowing stick anywhere near him. <br /><br />

It was clear that they were going to his room, so he could retrieve his weapon. But as he thought about it, he wasn't sure what the next step was. They wouldn't be able to blow the door down, maybe dent it slightly. But even that would take far too long, they'd run out of breath, their eyes would be stinging from the gas.<br /><br />

Come to think of it, they should've been stinging by now. Especially as they neared his room, which was most definitely the worst of them all. The air was thick with the gas, so thick you could see it. It blurred out the room, but luckily Hux knew exactly where the blaster was placed. He swiped it off of his bed as they neared it. He turned to Mira, hoping she could see him. He tapped on the side of his head, to signal that if she need to speak with him, he'd allow her in his head. Just her, just that once, just in that situation. He hoped she understood what he meant. <br /><br />

He wasn't sure how skilled she was in mind tricks, if she was even comparable to Kylo. The general simply hoped she was skilled enough to reach out to him if need be.

Despite all her knowledge about the Stormtroopers, Paquin knew little about the Knights. It was encouraging and disheartening at once. In some ways, Kylo Ren was glad the knights were able to keep such a low profile and remain hidden, but in many others it showed the weakness of the organization that he was working with.

“Do be careful then,” he said, speaking seriously, though his following words would be continuing with the joke, “one of us is allergic to latex,” it was not accurate, at least, not so far as Kylo Ren knew.

The Knights hid their weaknesses, though, even from each other.

He lifted a hand and snapped, deciding that was how much he cared about the lieutenant general, “Which Knight has been on the ship?” He asked, not even deigning to look up at him, “Also, come here: I’ve organized the troops by base. I want you to issue the commands to make sure these troops are sent to the right locations.” And the lieutenant would need to look at the hologram in order to do that, now that he had everything sorted.

He had plotted out four assaults on four different bases, all far enough away from the rebel’s main headquarters to be relatively safe strikes that the rebels wouldn’t hear about immediately, and couldn’t assist with quickly, either.

~***~

'Everything in its place.' Mira thought as the General went right to his gun. She gave a nod of approval as he turned back, then noted the gesture. It would be beneficial to speak to the General, and she did know how to use telepathy. The question was whether or not Hux did. If he knew how to lower his own guards, this would be simple.

If not, this was going to hurt him.

Mira weighed the odds and decided an emergency was not the time to find out. She could find out another day. 'Breathe.' She took in a slow breath, testing the air around her for poison, before speaking only loud enough to carry over the hiss of the poison, "I am keeping the air around us clear, but do not breathe much," she indicated, "When they enter, we can surprise them, and find out who they work with." And then she ceased talking, wanting still to limit her breathing, as she turned back towards the living area and walked to it, keeping the poison at bay with the Force.

The sounds outside had quieted, but she could hear a soft conversation, a debate, about whether or not she and Hux were conscious. ‘So, it isn’t fatal.’ That meant that whoever was out there, planned to capture and not kill. That was useful, then. They wouldn’t fight to kill, either.

Then, the lock clicked. The door opened, Mira pushed the poison with the Force towards the door to clear the room and also debilitate those trying to capture them.

“I’ll be cautious, I promise. Latex allergies are not to be taken lightly.” She chuckled, but she did take note of his serious tone. She didn’t have to be warned of the Knights, though. If anymore Knights were to take up residence on the starship, she’d steer clear of them. Paquin doubted they would be as tolerating as Kylo seemed to be. But, of course, she wouldn’t hesitate to provide medical attention to the Knights if she needed to. It was her job after all. The prospect of treating the other Knights reminded her of Kylo’s medical state. She was curious as to how is wounds had healed, and if he received adequate medical attention while he was away.<br /><br />

The lieutenant general shuffled his way to the two of them, as Kylo had ordered. He certainly didn’t look as stressed as he did previously, but he was still nervous. “Mira was the Knight that was here, sir.” He stated as he turned to the hologram, careful not to screw anything up as he studied it. The lieutenant couldn’t help but feel that someone should be approving the orders he’d been given. Like Hux. And while Kylo Ren was terrifying, the lieutenant wasn't sure if the Knight was actually in a position to order assaults on Resistance bases. Which is why he pretended to have to study the plans longer than necessary, to debate whether or not he should mention anything.<br /><br />

Paquin told herself to add Mira’s name to her file later. She watched the almost-general fiddle with the hologram, his hands shaky. Her eyes narrowed at him, wondering what was going on in his head. She didn’t mention anything, not finding the behavior particularly strange, taking into account how he acted previously. Her gaze returned to the darkly clothed man. “Sir, I wanted to ask how your injuries healed? Are you having any trouble with them?” She kept her voice quiet, presuming he didn’t want everyone to be aware that he was not invulnerable. She would have asked him at another time, but she doubted she’d have the chance. She’d have her hands full in the med center, and either Phasma or Hux would return soon. She’d no longer be needed.<br /><br />

Suddenly the lieutenant general spoke up, finally coming to a decision. He somehow managed to keep his voice steady, “Maybe we should contact General Hux or Captain Phasma. These are rather drastic commands you’re asking of me, in the complete opposite direction that Hux has had us going in. I feel like I need authorization from my superiors. I’m unsure if Hux would approve of you being called a superior.” His words came out harsher than he meant them to. He prayed Kylo would understand where he was coming from, even though Kylo was not known for being understanding.<br /><br />

-<br /><br />

Hux’s eyebrows furrowed, unaware that manipulating the air particles like she had was even possible. ‘Impressive.’ He thought as he followed her back out into the living space. He didn’t risk taking a breath, even if she was keeping the poison away from them. It seemed that the air would be cleared soon enough, based on the click of the door unlocking. His assumption had been correct, the room clearing as soon as the door opened. He knew it was Mira using the Force, the room certainly wouldn’t have been cleared that fast without it. Hux exhaled and took a breath of clean air as soon as the poison was gone, as he was starting to feel lightheaded.<br /><br />

Hux was done playing nice at that point. He was irritated, to say the least. And with that in mind, he aimed at the legs of the seemingly unconscious assailants, just in case the poisonous has didn’t have it’s desired effect. The general didn’t even want them to have the slightest chance at running away. He didn’t want them dead, though. Depending on who the assassins were, they could be useful alive. Hux waited for the poison to clear from the hallway before he grabbed one of the assassins by the leg, pulling him into the room with ease. As his eyes settled on the jacket of the man, it dawned on him that The First Order couldn’t take the quiet approach they had been. “Resistance.” He spat, his face scrunching up in disgust.<br /><br />

Hux ran a hand over his hair to smooth it down, glaring at the unconscious body before them. “I’ll have them searched and placed aboard the ship. They could be privy to any more Resistance attacks.” He told Mira, “We’ll be returning to the starship base as soon as possible. Right after I speak with the ambassadors. I’m getting the technology we need now. One way or another.” Hux needed to hurry the rebuilding process along, the Resistance was becoming bold. He would not allow them to think that the First Order would be easy to take down. While he wasn’t planning any offensive attacks, the First Order needed to be able to defend themselves. ‘More troopers, more crafts, more technology.’ That’s what they needed, he told himself.<br /><br />

The sound of guards rushing down the hallway was heard, Hux mentally rolled his eyes. “It’s about time.” He muttered as they reached their room. Apologies were spewed, but he ignored them. “I want the two searched. Now, in front of me.” He ordered, the guards complying. After all, it was the least they could do.<br /><br />

He watched as the guards stripped the wounded rebels of any weapons and devices they carried, his arms crossed behind his back. “I’d appreciate if someone were to inform our base that we will be returning shortly. Be vague, in case someone’s listening.” He still maintained some form of politeness, although he wanted to simply bark orders at them. He made a mental note to be cautious of anyone following their ship to the much larger one.<br /><br />

Mira caught the red-haired man’s eyes, and he turned to her. He nodded in thanks, the only form of appreciation he was willing to give. They may not have been alive right then if it weren’t for her.

The Lieutenant General gave Kylo the name, and he chuckled to himself. Mira Ren, the one who acted more Jedi than she ought to. Hux would be fine with her. Had it been Ariel, he would have worried. She had a bad habit of drinking to excess.

However, the man took his time in examining the maps and details. "I wish you luck in getting any important information out of the Knights," he spoke to Paquin. Despite how some behaved in emotional or erratic ways, they were all usually tight lipped as to why.

Much as Kylo's own lips tightened at the question Paquin asked. "It has healed well." His answer was curt, and only added to his anger as the Lieutenant General dared to question him. "I am of a similar rank to Hux," Kylo snapped, rounding on the man. He was more offended to be placed as lower than Phasma. "You will do well to remember that he and I both answer only to the Supreme Leader, not to you."

~***~

Anyone who forgot that General Hux was no mere pencil pusher was in for a rude awakening. Mira allowed a smile as the pair waiting for them were shot, and then with the press of a button, her blade vanished. She returned it to its place at her hip and walked forward with Hux to observe their would-be assailants.

It was the Resistance, of course.

Mira shook her head in disgust, nose wrinkling. The sour look remained on her face as the guards bustled over, apologizing profusely before taking Hux's orders to search the bodies and disarm them. Good came out of this event at least. Hux and she would be returning to base much sooner, and that was quite pleasing.

"General," Mira began as he gave her a nod, "There is a third. Would you like me to pursue or would you prefer if I remain with you?" Perhaps he wouldn't care about the one who planted the poison, but Mira had to ask. It would not do to withhold that information.

Paquin nodded at his answer, not pressing for any specifics. Evidently, he didn’t care much for the subject. Either way, if something had gone wrong, he wouldn’t be standing able-bodied in front of her. She found it comical that he just wished her luck with getting information from the Knights, and then proceeded to be uncommunicative. She would have laughed at it, had the Lieutenant General not been snapped at by Kylo.<br /><br />

The Lieutenant cringed as Kylo spoke, especially at the mention of the Supreme Leader. He then realized just where Kylo stood as far as power was concerned. He knew it was best not to question the Knight of Ren any further. All the previous steadiness his voice held, disappeared as he spoke, “Of course, sir. I apologize. It was just a thought, I won’t speak of it again.” At this point, the Lieutenant General had hoped he’d be demoted upon Hux’s return. He didn’t want there to be even a slight chance of him being put in charge again.<br /><br />

The Lieutenant didn’t hesitate any further and sent out alerts to the respective units. He dismissed himself to go give the commands verbally, to ensure they received the instructions. Right as the Lieutenant General walked away, a hologram replaced Kylo’s battle plans on the center console. It began playing without any warning, “I’ve been asked to inform General Hux’s starship base of his sooner than expected return. There’s been an assassination attempt from the Resistance. Both Hux and his companion are fine, and should be expected to return shortly.” And then it ended abruptly.<br /><br />

"Today's been a very strange day." Paquin mumbled, feeling the tension from practically everyone in the command center. It seemed everyone realized that the chaotic past weeks had just been the beginning of something much worse.<br /><br />

The General pondered on his options. Three prisoners would be far too many, but she could always kill the third assassin. “Leave him. Let him return to the Resistance as a failure. It’ll show that the First Order will not crumble so easily.” Hux rarely let his pride control his decisions, but he couldn’t help it this time. The thought of his decision blowing back on him did not cross his mind. “Besides, I’d like you to remain with me. You’ve proven yourself to be quite useful. I may require your presence again.”<br /><br />

A guard left for a short period of time before returning, informing Hux and Mira that a message had been sent to their base. He nodded in dismissal, before turning to the other guards as they finished searching the rebels. “Shackle them and put them aboard our ship.” He ordered.<br /><br />

Hux turned to the female Knight once again. “I’d gather your things and prepare yourself. I plan on leaving immediately after conversing with the ambassadors. I have urgent business to set in motion back at the base.” Hux was more than ready to exit the planet’s atmosphere. He couldn’t wait to return to the base, where he was in complete control. The First Order needed to make as much progress as soon as possible, and no progress was being made while he was away. Sure, he could simply send orders, but he didn’t trust anyone besides himself to carry out to his standards.<br /><br />

With that, Hux turned back to his room and gathered his things. He draped his jacket over his arm, planning on having it cleaned thoroughly upon his arrival at the starship. It was highly likely that gas had seeped into the fibers, and could potentially cause troubles later on. He wasn’t too keen on a visit to the medical station at that point in time, so he was careful not to hold the clothing too close to his nose or mouth.
