In the aftermath of Order 66 a small group of surrviving Jedi and their supporters reunited on the old Jedi world of Tython.
They discussed the short comings and arrogance of the order in it's final years and how to change it for the future.
They decided that the best course of action was to remain underground. They faked their deaths so that the emperor would not be after them. They then proceeded to blend in with the common folk creating lives for themselves.
They would call themselves Sentinels and recruit both force and non force sensitives they could trust into their ranks. By the time of the Galactic Civil War the Sentinels had become respected politicians, smugglers, bounty hunters, Rebel soldiers and pilots as well as a few Imperial officers and Moffs.
Now that the war has ended they send their agents out into the unknown regions to investigate any disturbances they feel.
