  • st. numen's academy for hosts
    st. numen's academy was founded centuries ago, when the gods and goddesses from various pantheons began to fade as a result of the people's belief in them deteriorating. as they are immortal and incapable of truly dying, their essence remained while their divine bodies crumbled to dust.

    in an attempt to remain remembered, and to continue to have one foot on earth, these various gods and goddesses latched onto other living beings. at first it was random — a last ditch attempt to stay alive while the memories of them were slowly being forgotten. they soon realised, though, that this was the only way for them to continue to exist in the physical world.

    over the years they learned from their mistakes, and their system of choosing hosts progressed. some humans were unwilling to act as hosts while others felt privileged and blessed. the gods soon realised, though, that a balance in nature needed to be maintained. just as they continued to exist, so did many of their foes.

    evil gods chose hosts as well, and roam the earth in their human disguises while trying to carry out the things they wanted to do when they were still gods.

    monsters, though eventually becoming the stuff of myths, continue to exist and cause chaos. they are invisible to the people of earth though, and most things that they do seem to be an accident in the real world. the hosts are the only ones capable of seeing their true forms, and are also the only ones capable of killing them — even if this death is only temporary.

    the gods eventually realised that their chosen human hosts were not well equipped to deal with things that they'd been dealing with for years. their bodies, though enhanced by divine energy, were still mortal and therefore vulnerable. they needed to be educated, and they needed to learn how to hone their abilities, and so a school was made.

    st. numen's was named after the prophet who initially foresaw what would happen to the gods, and at first, educating the hosts was quite tricky. they didn't have many others to learn from, and the gods were still learning the ropes as well since they could contribute their power, but could not completely take over the human bodies they had chosen.

    eventually, after choosing new bodies, the older hosts were able to help the next set of hosts in small ways. this continued for years, and after a lot of learning and trial and error, st. numen's became a large institution.

    and you just happen to be among the next batch of hosts.

NICKNAME(S): None. To gain a nickname would require knowing someone as more than just what he thinks is an acquaintance, of which Mordecai (respectfully) declines. Perhaps he's known as something particular to others. He uses the term "friend" rarely though his social circle is somewhat broad.
AGE: Twenty.

PRONOUNS: He/his/him.

ETHNICITY: Half English, half Slavic (Bulgarian).

II. APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION.
HEIGHT: 6'4".
HAIR COLOR/STYLE:: Inky black in low-light conditions, a dark-to-medium brunette tone when the sunlight hits it just right. He usually keeps the curls neatly brushed back, but if you ever happen to catch him fixing up a flyaway in a nearby mirror... no you didn't.
EYES: Pale blue along the outer ridges, golden brown ringing the pupil.
BUILD: Lean mesomorph.
MODIFICATIONS: He has both of his ears pierced but he hardly ever wears anything in them.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURE(S): A small beauty mark upon his left temple as well as his upper right cheek and back left cheek. An unkempt brow line and a thick ring of dark lashes emphasizing the curious nature of his eyes. All framed by a jawline that could probably cut diamonds.

- deadlines. oh, don't we all...
- those who are a bit too organized - add a little chaos into your life, yeah?
- being prompted to speak when he has nothing to say.
- ending up in any kind of leadership position, no matter how minor.
- having pictures taken of him. push his existence from your mind and allow him to revel in his newfound anonymity.

- HABITS:
• twirls his writing utensil between his fingers when in thought, sometimes lightly bites down on the end of it as well.
• rests his chin in his palm when sitting down at a desk.
• dog-ears his pages instead of bookmarking them.
• writes little notes in the margins of whatever he's reading, be it non-fiction or fiction. he feels most comfortable when he can write down his thoughts.
• leans back into whatever chair he's sitting in. his standing posture is great! his sitting posture? not so much...

- VICES:
- a nasty nicotine dependency - though it seems st. numen's isn't too fond of supporting such habits so he'll have to suffer for now.
- somewhat callous. he is no empath and doesn't accommodate for much in the way of heavy emotion.
- too skeptical for his own good. even now, with all of this divine magic surrounding him, the man still tries to justify it logically.
- secretive. a staunch guardian of his own interests. many may know of him, but few know him.
- perhaps just a tad mischievous? mordecai doesn't possess malicious intent by any means, but even he knows when to drop the active mind and have a little fun every once in a while...

- VIRTUES:
+ honest. he has absolutely nothing to gain by lying and nothing to hide and, well... even if he did you really couldn't tell.
+ loyal. it takes a lot for mordecai to get attached enough to someone to where he would die for them, but when it happens there's really no one more reliable to have at your side.
+ indifferent. mordecai is not easily riled emotionally and rarely ever shows a genuine fear, anger or grief response. it makes him incredibly hard to read, but also incredibly reassuring to have at your side if you go delving into any haunted ruins.
+ articulate. this one seems to know exactly what to say and how to say it. it's a quirk that's talked him and others out of (potentially) very bad situations.
+ fair. one of the perks of being more logically driven instead of emotionally driven is a propensity to make decisions based on pure action and outcome, cause and effect. mordecai isn't one to possess inherent bias for one over another just because he's more emotionally fond of them.

- FEARS:
• wasting his life worrying too much about the logistics of things and not enough about anecdotal evidence and experience. in other words, he would like to experience things like friendship and romance but isn't entirely sure he knows how he'll be able to process these types of relationships.
• fading into obscurity. they say you only truly die once your name has been uttered its final time and if he thinks about it too long, he struggles with the thought that everyone will forget him someday long after his death. that there won't be a big enough legacy of his left behind to serve as a reminder to his family that he ever even existed.
• the ocean.

HOST GOD: TRIVIA, Roman Goddess of witchcraft, magic, sorcery, necromancy, the night, the dark side of the moon, ghosts, crossroads, trivial knowledge, herbalism, witches and the underworld - nocturnal Matron, a haunting of crossroads and graveyards. She travelled only at night, her presence foretold by the sound of a barking pack of wild dogs. Also known as the Queen of Ghosts.

- SPECIAL ABILITIES:
• divination - a method of reading the future, the present and the past and/or provide help to a problem at hand by using an occultic, standardized process or ritual. divination can be achieved by communicating with the supernatural (i.e. gods, demons, spirits, nymphs) or by reading certain patterns. please note that while mordecai can get a pretty good feel on what to do or what is on the horizon, he cannot see the future and personal choices constantly shift its happenings. it's more just a very good sense of intuition. he can sense a disaster on the horizon, but he cannot tell what exactly may transpire. he usually achieves this through tarot readings and other assorted rituals.
• mediumship. user can hear and see/view ghosts/spirits of deceased and even communicate and/or interact with them, even if they have possessed inanimate objects/subjects/people. this is more of a passive ability and not something that mordecai can voluntarily tap into. this is essentially a matter of free will. while mordecai can sense a haunted place or object, he cannot forcibly talk to the spirit. essentially, sometimes he hears the voices of the dead - and it's his least favorite ability because it's illogical and makes him feel like he's going completely insane.

- LIMITATIONS:
- mental exhaustion. mordecai may be able to conduct several small rituals a day just for fun, but if he must sit down and go through an intense divination ritual, he'll most likely need to have somewhere close by to rest up a bit afterwards. do not expect him to conduct one intense ritual after the other or he may just pass out!
- dispelling rituals, or any charm cast over a person or area that wards off psychic intuition. his powers are simply not strong enough yet to be able to break past any present magical barriers.
- black tourmaline. a powerful healing stone and an excellent way to ward off negative energy; however, it kind of functions like mordecai's own personal kryptonite. if somebody is wearing jewelry with black tourmaline or is in the presence of it, all divination rituals he may do for them will end up being so much more strenuous to get through.
- in order for his readings and rituals to get done properly, mordecai needs to focus one hundred percent on tapping into his inherent psychic abilities. in this removed and concentrated state, his physical body may be vulnerable to any physical attack. if the ritual is interrupted by anything, he has no choice but to start all over from the beginning.

WHY WAS HE CHOSEN?: Being a host of Trivia seems to run in the family. Their psychic connection to the magic and spirits around them is very useful when a lot of other hosts seem to have more, erm, physical abilities.

- ASSORTED HEADCANONS:
• mordecai's style is simple but very clean and elegant. he can mainly be seen in nice slacks and crisp white button-downs, usually with the first few buttons undone simply for comfort... though the aesthetic bonus is a very nice touch.
• you would never be able to tell, but this guy is blind as a bat when it comes to viewing things up close. you usually won't see him in his glasses unless he's frequenting the library. he literally cannot read without them.
• did i mention something about frequenting the library? because research and debate is one of his favorite hobbies. he's so familiar with the library and its layout that he can probably locate any book you're seeking in about five minutes.
• while his personal style is simple and he doesn't care much for glitzy jewelry, he does very much enjoy the feel of rings on his fingers. it isn't uncommon to find his fingers full of them; intricately wire-wrapped crystals and stones that serve more of a topical purpose than aesthetic.
• mordecai never does readings for free and he doesn't accept cash payment when he does do them. instead, he makes the buyer promise a future favor for him and he requires something of personal value be offered up to be returned after the favor is called upon and completed.

PERSONALITY: Mordecai has always been quite reserved, preferring to stick to the sidelines and become an unbiased observer to the happenings around him. He does somewhat enjoy meeting others despite his mild nature - a wide circle of contacts and viewpoints alike keeps his mind aware and active. Some come away from a conversation with him thinking that he's overall uninterested with the way he prefers to let others speak; hand-in-cheek, pursed lips, prying eyes taking in everything he can learn from someone's mannerisms and facial expressions - only occasionally nodding or adding his own brief input when he's sure the other party is awaiting it. Others think that he's an excellent outlet for venting frustration as his calm demeanor and poignant, to-the-point advice has a tendency to rub off on others. His kind is the type you either find incredibly dull or charmingly enigmatic.

He's not quick to give in to bouts of emotion. Yes, he has cried and laughed and ran wild in pleasant company before - but it never really seems to be a natural reflex to him. His psyche is a complicated mess of logic over feeling, mathematics over a painted canvas. Most everything he does he takes a moment to consider beforehand and that extends to his physical reactions. Provoking an angered or fearful response is harder than getting him to laugh or cry. Perhaps his lack of spur-of-the-moment, fight-or-flight reflexes will find him in trouble one of these days, but for the moment it hasn't failed him yet - and so he sees no reason to change his slightly removed ways.

BIOGRAPHY: Mordecai was born to a wandering enigma of a woman who served as Trivia's host before him - a bohemian feminine energy with ringed hands, flowing dark hair and a coy smile behind painted red lips. He doesn't remember much of his father and perhaps that's for the best as his mother's lifestyle isn't easily digestible. Alexandra was her name. She'd always been the type to seek out the superhuman - to dance with glee with her breast bare under each new full moon. From a young age, Mordecai remembers her cards and candles and altars to the minor Roman Goddess, though perhaps he was far too young to fully understand.

The two emigrated to the States while Mordecai was still quite young and there Alexandra found her way with a group of roving freak show carnies. She became that which she always desired to be full-time; a medium. It was the sword-swallowers and pain freaks that Mordecai spent most of his time around - absolutely awed by such extreme feats. So it went that Mordecai became raised by the entire village and not just his strange mother.

Even then the boy was too busy looking for intricate explanations for his mother's clairvoyance; especially when the showrunner began to demand she make her services more "theatrical", including the incorporation of elements such as crystal balls. His brows would draw in confusion and he would drop to his knees so fast to lift up the table dressing and search for a plug, a pulley or any other explanation for the weird dramatics within its smoky gaze - and sure enough, he would find it. As his mother became increasingly more disillusioned with her job - she began to teach Mordecai the secret to her rituals.

He is constantly seen wearing boots, jeans, and dark-colored T-shirts and jackets. It would be a simple wardrobe if it weren't for his 'religious pieces'. He wears over twenty necklaces and bracelets at any given time, each having the symbol of a different religion. There are recognizable religions, like Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, and Confucianism, but there are other symbols, unrecognizable, that could only belong to cults because of how hard it is to find information on the symbols. He wears bracelets everywhere on his wrists and the necklaces jingle loudly if he moves too quickly. If anyone keeps track of his necklaces and bracelets, they'll notice that he regularly switches them out. If prompted, he can give a large amount of information on each religion and accessory. — VIRTUES: Dominic's a lighthearted, carefree, strangely considerate guy. You wouldn't expect the guy chosen by the literal god of death to be an overly considerate guy, but that's just Dominic. Sure, he might be a high-functioning sociopath and treats most things with a general degree of 'not my problem', but when it comes down to it, he's a good guy. He may be the first to ignore social cues, but people don't give him enough credit when noticing stuff about people. He also has a level of nonchalance that just can't be matched. No matter the situation, no matter the stakes, Dom will lay back, look danger in the eye, and laugh because their fly is down. And, while he may be lighthearted and spin a joke whenever, he's usually the first to spring to action and take charge of a situation.
— VICES: Dominic, for his good traits, is also apathetic, pragmatic, and a scheming sonuvabitch. The last one isn't so bad and could even be considered a plus when you're not on the receiving end of it, but if you are, then you will take none too kindly to it. HIs 'schemes' are less Game Of Thrones 'I'll be all powerful' level, and more like 'How can I get back at this person in the prettiest, most humiliating way possible?'. He mostly makes schemes for himself, but he'll come up with plans on the spot if someone messes with people he's loyal to. And, as much as he wants to say that his loyalty is just opportunistic pragmatism and that he'd drop them on a whim, he won't. His pragmatism clashes with his emotional loyalties, so he often has to give them some selfish reason why he's still sticking with someone even if it's harmful for him to do so. Lastly, his apathy may be prevalent at all times, but he can push it aside to be emotional for the sake of the people he likes.

Fears such as losing friends and family have long since been relegated to an accepted fact of life and more existential fears like being forgotten have been approached with a degree of apathy unseen and have been largely ignored. Some things may startle Dominic, but they'll never truly frighten him.

— HOST GOD: Hades, god of death, the underworld, and wealth
— SPECIAL ABILITIES:
-Soul magic: Hades, as the god of death, naturally held power over souls. This power transfers to his host, allowing Dominic to give and take the energy of a living organism. Sure, he could siphon so much energy from a person that he could kill them, but that's only theoretical. More likely than not, he'd kill himself trying to do so. The energy taken is stored within him. For Hades, when he was a god, this wasn't an issue. But Dominic, a human, can't handle too much. If he takes too much energy, his body will overload. Blood pressure will rise, adrenaline will skyrocket, and he could very well give himself a heart attack. But, if he gives off too much energy, he risks dying of exhaustion as well. His power is a balancing act between the two extremes, making sure he doesn't take in too much and have a heart attack and making sure he doesn't dispel too much and exhaust himself. With high energy, it's like he's taken an adrenaline shot and steroids simultaneously and is high off his rocker. With low energy, it's like he hasn't slept in weeks and has a bad hangover.

As long as he can balance his energy, he can use his magic without too much of an issue. Sucking energy from a living thing, naturally, exhausts them. Using that energy, he can transfer it to someone else or use it for other purposes. For example, he can heal a person's wounds using energy. Healing is what he mainly uses his power for, being able to mend deep cuts and broken bones nearly instantly. It can also heal sickness and give plants much-needed nutrients. To be expected though, this process is EXHAUSTING. But, with enough practice, it might even save a life.
— LIMITATIONS: Dominic is at risk of death every time he uses his ability. Take in too much energy, and he has a heart attack. Expel too much energy, he'll die of exhaustion. BIO

— LIFE BEFORE: Dom was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico to a kindergarten teacher and a state police trooper. His older brother, Damian, was eight years older than him so they were pretty disconnected growing up. He was close to his dad when he was young, always going on a ride along with them when they went on patrol. Many of Dom's interests stemmed from what he learned from his dad.

His parents were pretty religious, and the family would go to church every Sunday. Dom spent that time brushing up on religion, making religious accessories, and memorizing Bible verses. Oddly enough, it was pretty fun. Dom was a bright kid as well, knowing how to cuss out his brother in French before he learned how to say 'Mississippi'. Tijuana wasn't a terrible place to live, but it wasn't the best either. His parents just barely managed to squeak by and afford a middle-class existence as was.

One day, his dad left to go on patrol along the countryside. A three-hour deal, there and back again, no problem.

They came back in a body bag.

With his dad out of the picture, Dom's mom couldn't make enough alone to support herself and her sons. After losing her job, the only solution they could come up with was to move to the states. The boys didn't like it, they were leaving behind their father's grave, but it was this or the homeless shelter so they didn't have a say in the matter. Together, they moved to California where his mom found work as a high school teacher. They were poorer than before, but they were scraping by.

Dom was still a bright kid. A blindingly, shining bright kid. He'd skipped ahead two grades and had finished high school by the time he was sixteen. Upon graduation, he packed his bags, moved out, and promptly dropped off the face of the Earth. Sure, he kept in touch with his family, but it was basically just 'Wish you were here!' cards and notes asking for bail money. All his mom and brother know was that in the time he was gone, he used a fake medical license to get a job, joined too many religions to count, got baptized, was ordained as a priest, and regularly impersonated a police officer.
— IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS: His mother, Daniela Escuela, is alive and kicking in San Francisco, living with his recently married brother Damian. He's on good terms with both and keeps in contact with them.

yasmina’s story begins from before she was even born. her mother was a kurdish refugee who was trying to escape from iraq due to the ethnic cleansing of her people. after managing to pay smugglers to get her and her younger brother away from the counter on a small boat (way too small to fit the one hundred people on it anyway), yasmina’s mother ended up in greece. from which there she made her way around the world, finding herself having to relocate often due to issues visa refusals, no refugee programmes, etc. this was all until she found herself in london, england. whilst other countries had rejected her visa, one of the only countries she definitely expected to hear a rejection from accepted her in. of course this didn’t make life easy – she was a seventeen-year-old with an eleven-year-old brother. she had no clue on where and how to start her life. learning to live in the uk was tough, but it was made a bit easier when she met third generation immigrant pakistani. and after a while of ‘courting’ the two soon got married and had children. esa (twenty-four), yasmina (twenty) and inaya (eighteen).

growing up was difficult for yasmina. she felt like she consistently and always had to make a compromise between her cultures. she grew up in a high immigrant area, but racial divides are still present, even in areas of high immigration. she always felt like she was never pakistani enough for the predominant pakistani population, there was hardly a Kurdish population either. if she met another Kurdish person, they were usually a lot older than her. the kids in her schools weren’t too better either. if they weren’t judging her for her clear lack identify then they would just not speak to her in general. these years were pretty hard on the young girl, finding herself having to conform to what people wanted to see from her. be quiet. observe from the back. make whispers so you can be heard but try not to speak too loudly. otherwise, you’d be overstepping your boundaries of being the token minority friend. she settled well into her role, not wanting to cause ripples. quiet and submissive, agreeable.

when yasmina turned sixteen her world got flipped on its head. it’s when her parents told her and her younger sister that they were to move to america. inaya was ever excited but yasmina? not so much. this was a new place, new people. new people who she would have to give herself to for judging. to be placed on a pecking order. she only wanted a quiet life. not rock the boat. she never in her life had felt more anxiety since the month of moving. when she came to the states, her family decided to move in a nice house in california. it was here when the girl truly decided to finally find herself, little did she know that inanna already had her eyes on her. she already knew who the girl was to be.

✽ emotion manipulation - mina has the ability to manipulate the feelings of others, whether this is minor emotions for a longer period of time or intense emotions for a shorter time period. the basis of mina’s ability is that love is in everything. it shows itself in our laughter and happiness but also hides itself in our sorrows. perhaps a bit opportunistic, but by using this knowledge mina can almost latch onto someone’s love. and in doing so, she can pull and influence different emotions from them. whether this is the flame of an intense rage for a minute or two, to an entire episode of anxiety and apathy for hours at a time. having this ability also allows mina to have a keen sense of being able to spot what someone may be feeling and when they may be feeling it.

generally, if mina doesn’t have a catalyst around her, the radius of her actual ability can only travel as far as one metre or two but never any further. this means that ideally, the people that mina should be able to manipulate should be those who are trying to cause her immanent harm or danger. it was only recently that mina discovered the usefulness of a catalyst. in mina’s ability, a catalyst is something which helps her spread the extent of her ability and widen its radius. mina can do this when she has something like glass or a mirror. a mirror alone can help her scatter the reach of her ability through reflection. however, glass can help scatter the ability to a much farther radius and also help magnify the ability to a longer reach.

✽ charmspeak - a more minor ability of mina's. whilst charmspeak doesn't grant her the ability to simply say something and get someone to do or feel it, it definitely makes what she says a bit more influential. whilst a lot of people may think of using charmspeak for a more grander scale, mina mostly uses it for the simpler things in life. like persuading her boss to not fire her if she's late for her fifth day in a row or perhaps trying to influence someones vote in something like a class election (yes, they're very important issues to her).






limitations

✽ emotion manipulation – mina often finds herself struggling on the line between other’s emotions and her own. a part of her own personality and nature, mina is empathetic by nature and often starts to find herself feeling what other people are feeling, even if it’s an emotion that she induced in the first place. she still requires training to reduce chances of any side-effects and keep her own emotions controlled. results can be disastrous if she accidently cascades her emotions onto other people.

✽ emotion manipulation – the ability is limited to a certain number of targets at a time, as stated before she usually needs a catalyst to project and scatter the emotions and change to more people. it’s very hard to find mirrors and glass when it comes to organically in the wild, and even if she did use a mirror there would be a chance, she hits herself too. the ability also has limited range too, mina often needs glass to extend the range.

✽ charmspeak – one limitation of charmspeak is the ability to both turn it on and turn it off. mina has been very reluctant to use this ability since it often extends into the real world as well, making normal communication extremely difficult. a lot of the time she doesn’t realise she’s doing it until the end. keeping and maintaining regular relationships may prove difficult since people will be enchanted by her voice.

✽ charmspeak - people with strong wills or intentions are unaffected, and the more powerful the being, the stronger their resistance is. if someone is aware of mina’s ability to charmspeak, then it will have a reduced effect as they will be on guard in case, they are the subject to it. this is sometimes either a well-known fact or lesser known fact depending on the social circle she’s in so it would make influencing difficult.






why she was chosen

inanna is different from most deities based around love. where some gods may look for a host who aligns with their own values, inanna is an agent of chaos. from her days of legacy to even now, inanna contradicts the expectations and roles placed upon her and women. and in wanting to do that, she spotted a shy, frumpy child who was the complete opposite of her. inanna believes in the power of women and she wanted to introduce power and excitement to a girl who she viewed as subservient and submissive. it was a void that lacked the clarity of every woman before and after them. and inanna decided to introduce chaos into the void that she spotted.

history









izan was born to a wealthy, extremely well off, spanish and italian family. life for izan was nothing but being surrounded by so many people at one time. people his influential parents would show off to their house guests. izan was born to mr. luciano and mrs. luciano (née vasquez). his father was already a successful businessman by the time he turned twenty-three and his mother was an international and famous supermodel who ran in shows for paris, milan, etc. he was an only child so as soon as he was born and for the rest of his life, he would forever be doted in by his two parents who also wanted their child to do something great. to make something of himself. the real disconnect between him and his parents soon began over izans inability to just sit down and study. izan was smart, he knew it and his parents knew it and that’s why the livid image of his parent’s head over his grades wouldn’t get out of his head. you see Izan has been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, however this came in way too later as he was already done with school by the time, he got his diagnosis.

soon after that, life became arguments and fighting. izan getting a low grade, his parents getting angry and punishing him, his grades lifting for a week before his grades went down again. and the cycle would just keep on continuing to the next person and the person after that and so on and so forth. it was due the constant negative stress and attention that he got from home that he joined the swim team. at first, he did it just to get his mind off of his home life and how his parents were reacting towards him. however, the more he swam the more he truly appreciated swimming as an art. and soon enough, he worked up the courage to speak to his parents one night at a dinner table. he told his parents that he wanted to become a swimmer. he wanted to swim professionally. his parents shut him down as soon as they heard it. and prior to even hearing him out, they gave him a strict punishment. never ever speak or go to anyone or anything involving the swim team. and it seems like the memo was given to the swim team too as they too soon stop talking to him.

eventually izans life went to one of partying, drugs, alcohol, etc. it was all he used to drown out the pain of having no security, no hopes or aspirations for the future and not way out form his tiger parents hold. his life went down an extreme and convoluted tale of partying and drinking all night and sleeping all day. it was at these parties that the dionysus finally was able to see what he wanted. a boy of ecstasy, a boy with fervour and a boy who resembled him. and he was going to make the boy his host.

✽ plant manipulation - izan can create, shape, move, control, interact and manipulate plants - including things like wood, vines, moss, leaves, seeds, roots, fruits and flowers. he can cause plants to grow, move or attack and die if needed to be.he can use his power for both defence and support. he can do something called a spring bloom, which can cause flowers and other plants to bloom instantaneously if he has enough power, then these plants can be used for his manipulation. he can also manipulate tree branches and vines to use them as whip-like weapons instead of getting a physical weapon himself. his innate knowledge of botany has helped in times of need when he would need to bloom plants to use them for their physical properties (i.e. healing, aiding, etc).

having control of plants also allows him to use offensive techniques on a given target. he can grasp and strike continuously with vines and roots, and occasionally also project thorns if a plant with thorns is nearby. he can also grow vines to entangle people as a more defensive and subtle technique. very rarely, if at all has izan has used the more subtle technique to release damaging toxins and pheromones. the pheromones are used to essentially ‘tag’ a target for animals and plants whereas the toxins are to cause direct harm and effect if breathed it. conditions caused from this can be potentially deadly if left untreated for a long time.






limitations

✽ plant manipulation – izan’s ability to control plants is highly threatened by elements such as ice or fire. after all, if a plant has been frozen then it can’t really move anymore which renders izan’s ability useless, or at least those in plain sight. however, if someone with the ability to control fire decided to scorch the entire place, then it would be extremely difficult for izan to do anything at all as all the existing material has burnt and all the remaining material would not be a good host for life.

✽ plant manipulation – izan’s ability is kind of useless in areas that are too difficult or barren for any type of plant to grow. for example, complete metal and concrete buildings or floors would require izan to bury really deep into the earth and in order to do that, a lot of time would be needed. this is particularly a major weakness as izan would have to rely solely on physical to strength in order to do that. even that is distracting and if he is still trying to call upon plants whilst still in combat, the plant will grow very slowly.






why they were chosen

izan was chosen due to his likeliness to the god. despite all of his wealth, and his academia and the way he carried himself – at the root of it all, he was just like dionysus. dionysus is notoriously very picky when it comes to choosing who he wants as his host as they have to align with his own morals and values as well. dionysus’s search ended when izan was born. from then on, dionysus knew that this was the host he was going to choose. as if the future of the boy flashed in front of his eyes.

Damien is quite an open person. He's curious and has a learner's mind. He knows what he wants and works hard. Damien would move heaven and earth to make sure he gets it. In tough times he is resilient and powers through to return to a more stable place. He has the bravery and speech skills to inspire. He has the ability to become a good leader when others can't. Damien's organised and self discipline nature comes out in full force when he is leading himself and other nerdy people through difficult or new experiences. Importantly, Damien is strong minded and heavily focused on his ideas and beliefs. He is also quite political being anti-authoritarianism (ironic now that he is a host) and keeps up to date with what goes on in the world. He believes himself to be wellread and prides himself on the acclectic knowledge he has. He is also loyal to those who are loyal to him. He would drop everything at a moment's notice for those he loves and is unafraid of conflict. His parents describe him as having a fiery personality in both the best and worst ways. His flame cannot be put out and that passion and love is the best part of him.

Asocial, Rash, Awkward
Damien can also be a mean and rude person sometimes which he knows is his worst trait. An only child often stuck around people he didn't know and disliked for hours on end festered some resentment towards people and grew a temper he isn't proud of. He used to lash out a lot but now he channels that hateful energy into written words. He doesn't want to be a bad person and feels very guilty for hurting people in his youth with his sharp tongue. Recklessness as a child has led to him becoming more and more shy. He still has that same difficulty with relationships but now it's based in is based in idiocy and confusion. Sadly he wishes to be recognised for who he is and wants to be loved but keeps messing up with new people and even those he's known forever. He just doesn't know how to go about achieving interpersonal relationships which makes him want to avoid them. His high standards for himself have often pushed him away from even starting to become more friendly with people. This is unlike him as with most things in life he is very headstrong and persistent. A fresh start with new people not from his small hometown is what he needs along with the courage to become a warmer more sociable person and direct his fire towards better and brighter things.

Vulcan, God of Fire, Metalworking, and the Forge. As for Vulcan himself, the two of them are so similar it's eerie. They're both asocial men who wish they knew how to communicate with people and are afraid of rejection and betrayal. They both have leg injuries and obsessed with their work which involves making practical yet beautiful things. Also in general their personalities can be described as blunt and uncaring hiding a fiery side. He believes that all his traits will be more pronounced and Damien is really scared of what Vulcan's impact on his life will be apart from gaining a whole new world to explore. Relationships have always been difficult and now having a whole new person inside him would be difficult to explain to others who weren't hosts.
— special abilities:
Magma-Fire Manipulation: can control combustion and molten substances lending itself to a variety of applications depending on level of training and skill the user has.
— limitations:
  1. Training and Skill Level is of the upmost importance. It could be disastrous and life ending if he isn't in total control of his abilities.
  2. Water, Ice and Cold abilities counteract the usage of Magma Manipulation and Heat or Fire Immune characters are not affected by this power.
  3. He isn't immune to the powers side effects. He can still burn himself if he isn't careful and smoke inhalation is a risk with Fire Manipulation.
  4. Cannot create Magma out of thin air and can only use it if he can sense it in the ground or find it naturally occurring. Fire however can be created (think ATLA firebenders and Bolin from LOK ).
— why were they chosen: Unlike Gods who like to keep a familial connection, Vulcan likes to choose different people from different backgrounds that are similar to him personality wise. Both Hephaestus and Vulcan wanted Damien however. He already has skills in metalwork and carpentry but Vulcan ended up taking him because Damien could have been born in Italy during a Mount Etna volcanic eruption and his surname is Chwe which means mountain. Vulcan likes to choose hosts that are good looking as he was never considered that and of course the similar personality element was overwhelming.


BIO
— backstory:
Janet and Kevin Chwe were on their summer vacation in Southern Italy and Sicily. She was heavily pregnant with their first child, a son, and the happy couple were supposed to enjoy one final romantic get away before he arrived. However their trip was cut short when the Mount Etna eruptions occurred. Never experiencing anything like it before, they decided it was best to go back home to small suburban town near Chicago. It happened to be good timing as the moment that they arrived home Janet's water broke and she was rushed to hospital. A few hours and a tired and jetlagged Janet gave birth to Damien Chwe, born weighing 7.5 pounds exactly.

They were blessed to have him despite how much fuss he kicked up as a new born baby. They thought it would be just a short time thing but Damien screamed and cried a lot as a child until he was about 7 years old. His parents described it as him having a fiery personality. However, Damien's strange outbursts as a child made them not want other children so they made an effort to have him be social from a young age. It didn't work however and he was reclusive. He preferred to play imaginary games by himself and create things like like clay pottery, cardboard swords and paper helmets. He hurt himself a lot playing like this and one point burned his arm trying to be a DJ with the oven top. They pushed him into learning guitar to give him a safer creative outlet. He was an okay student and passed his classes but he didn't like dealing with other people and often lashed out at them. All he cared about was making things. He was artistic and while other kids wanted to play together at recess he drew in the sand and made up whole worlds in his head. His parents despite wanting him to have friends let him have his solo creative time uninterrupted. An artistic background could help him connect with others in the future so they let it be.

As he became a teenager, he found himself in the company of the nerdy, creative kids. He found it was better to be in a group of weirdos than be a lone one. For the first time in his life he found having friends enjoyable. They had similar interests and interesting personalities. They found him almost being born during a volcano eruption to be the craziest thing and his love for sculpting to be a great way of expressing himself. His parents worried less for their boy's wellbeing now he had a circle of people around him. He ended up going to an practical art and technology high school despite his good grades and he wanted a career in making things. His Uncle, Johnny worked as a blacksmith, one of the last in Illinois, which led him to liking it as well. His interest in mediums such as sculpture, metalwork, pottery and carpentry turned into more of an obsession. He fully through himself into his school work for the first time and ended up graduating a year early as his class' valedictorian. He gave a big speech for the first time in his life. He spoke about how many people might not take much notice of the kid in the corner doodling and sketching out random things and how if you push the kids who daydream and let them follow their interests then they can become whatever they're meant to be.

He left school and took on an apprenticeship in engineering and did some college classes on the side in various artistic and practical fields whilst picking up work experience at his Uncle's place. He started working out more to help build his muscles and he started seeing a full time future in carpentry and metalwork. He wants to continue learning and growing with his work and career for a long time but it was around his birthday when he found out he was a host for Vulcan which shook his world. He knew about Hosts but he never thought someone like him could be one. For the first time in a long time he had no idea what to do with himself and now he is questioning if his whole life was just building up to this.

  • If he does get into a relationship he'll be a hopeless romantic and be in love with everything about that person. Such a sap
  • Damien is just out here tryin to find himself. He thought he had a handle on his career and had enough friends around him but now he's been thrown into a new environment. It'll be a while before we know if he will be okay with being a host.
  • He wants to be a badass and someone people can look up to but he has to overcome his immense shyness before that.
  • At the start of being a host his powers were related to his emotions. This is why training and stability are so important to these fire based powers so he doesn't accidentally burn a house down in a fit of rage.

lack of control - due to her powers still functioning subconsciously, she often is unaware when she using her abilities leading to accidents. this means when she does want to perform a specific action she is not too well versed as she is so used to her abilities just functioning by themselves and being somewhat controlled by idunn. she also has problems with her inability to control the scale and particular function.

youngest of three siblings, lily was always felt like somewhat of a disappointment. whether it was her academics or her appearance or any other conceivable difference. with two older over achieving perceivable perfect siblings, lily also strives to be someone her parents can be proud of even if it is was pointless. slowly she became aware and had to accept that there was no use trying to be something she wasn't and pushing herself too far but she still has an underlying unhealthy perfectionist attitude toward herself.
when lily first began hearing another voice in her head she started to get worried. why had this happened. was she going crazy. she probably needed to go to the doctor and then to therapy and she didn't earn enough money to get therapy. luckily it turned out she wouldn't be
