Fantasy Spontaneous Combustion

Nenma Takashi

Terribly Terrible
Spontaneous combustion-When an object or person will suddenly for seemingly no reason burst into flames.

It was the year 2000 when the first victim appeared a business man in the city of New York suddenly erupted into flames. Right in the middle of town square onlookers thought it was some kind of trick at first sadly it was far too late before the man burnt to death. Later victims weren’t as lucky either as more people began to burst into flames even when dosed in water the flames wouldn’t die out and still burnt the poor people away. Scientist tried to see if they could find some way of knowing when these deaths would happen yet it was discovered there is no rhyme nor reason to them. Just as people were beginning to come to terms with this a new outcome began to come from these Spontaneous combustions. People would burst into flames but be fine for a few seconds only to turn into power hungry monsters possessing one of three types of abilities. The ability to enhance their body, turn the flames into a weapon of some kind, or create a creature that obeyed their every command. Not only were people in fear of bursting into flames or turning into monsters they had to worry about said monsters. Monsters that people had decided to call Cinders.

People began to truly think they were doomed to die out until once again a new outcome came from these Spontaneous Combustions. People would burst into flames and nothing else would happen. The flames didn't hurt nor turn them into a raging monster yet they still held the abilities of said monsters. From those who could enhance their bodies, turn the flames to weapons, or a creature. These new breed of Cinders who still held onto their humanity and weren’t consumed by the lust for power were called Embers. The first of these Embers managed to wipe out more than half of the Cinders by themselves. Many refer to this Ember as The First and have built churches to honor him. More and more Embers began to appear and take it upon themselves to wipe out the Cinders but until they figure out what is even causing these Spontaneous Combustions this hell will never end.

While scientist haven’t discovered the cause of these flames they have learned certain things. For example a lighter colored flame shows the person is more in tune to the good in their heart, on the other hand a darker flame shows their more in tune with the darkness in their heart. This doesn’t mean one with a light flame is a good person or that someone with a dark flame is evil simply that they have a certain mindset. The color of the flames shows what emotion the user feels most often. All Cinders have ugly grayish flames. They also studied the different type of powers from these flames. Flames that enhance will normally surrounded their body so they call them Aura Flames. People with these flames seem to either be those with a lust for battle or simply those who enjoy beating others around. A Weapon Flame that can be shaped into a weapon of some kind are far stronger than their real world counterparts. A Weapon Flame user can also only make one type of weapon and seem sharp or psychotic. Finally a Monster Flame is a flame that can be shaped into a creature by it’s the shape the flame takes usually relates to their user. The flames seem to have some form of self thought. Yet do not have personalities though whenever they need to make choices on their own they will in most cases make the choice their master would. These creatures are for the most part immortal normal weapons and means of attack simply do not work on them. Though and attack from a Weapon or Aura Flame does damage them. Damage done to the Monster is dealt to the user and vice versa.
