Fandom Splatoon: Octarian Inkursion

She whispered under her breath, "I knew those friends of yours would be important..."
Molly composed herself, tentacles turning from a bright red to a darker, mossy green, "I... don't have any missions as of now, except to avoid the police. I... don't trust you to not turn me in, so I will be taking my leave at the earliest convenience." She almost recounted, staring Marie in the eye, "I hope we can get along in the mean time. Squidbeak." Molly practically spat the name of the splatoon. Obviously they weren't exactly heralded as heroes wherever the Octarians resided.

---

"Well then. I hope you will enjoy meeting the rest of the gang. Can an Octoling hold her ground in enemy territory against four of the most talented squids in Inkopolis?" She was, for the most part, bluffing. She wasn't quite sure where Agent four disappeared off to. But as long as they were still "on their way," the Octoling was effectively outnumbered 4-1, and 3-1 are still pretty favorable odds.
"I would be more than happy to safeguard the apartment while you two rest up, Agent 3. Please, take a rest." Marie spoke plainly. As long as someone's watching, they've got the Octoling stuck here. The next step would be escorting them out of Inkopolis.

Reirei waved a hand in dismissal. "You need sleep more than I do, and it's my fault she's even here in the first place. I'll take first watch," he announced.

Marie raised an eyebrow, "Alright. See you two troublemakers in the morning," she ended with a somewhat hostile tone. She walked up to a traditional Japanese door, slid it open, and slipped into the room quietly.

---

"You couldn't have told me that this was the home of the Squidbeak Splatoon!?" Molly accuses Reirei. "I think I should've taken my chances with the police. Out there I'd have a chance of getting out alive!" She practically ranted, tentacles turning a hostile shade of red again. She paced around the room, sleepiness once again slowly tearing her down, "Make sure she doesn't kill me, at least?" She said, slumping onto the couch, tentacles curled tight, a frightened pale hue. She indignantly crossed her arms, refusing to fall asleep.

---

Well, there she was. Callie was sprawled across her bed, though thankfully not snoring. Marie yawned quietly, and snuck into her own bed. She closed her eyes...

Reirei pressed his back to the door and slid to sit on the floor, stifling a yawn. "Yeah, she's got a bit of a vendetta against all Octarians after what happened to Callie, I guess. She hasn't said those words exactly to me, but it's pretty obvious in her words and actions. Sorry, in hindsight I should have given you a heads up..." he took a moment to pause, stretching his arms above his head, tensing the rest of his body, before relaxing again. "... but that'd be kind of turning against my teammates?" Reirei shrugged. "If you did have a mission against us, and I didn't know, and I just up and told you 'yeah, we're the Squidbeak Splatoon', and then went to bed, you'd have up and killed us in our sleep or something. I couldn't take that risk." He gave her a look that said 'my teammates come before you, and I would never betray their trust'. It was a cold, steely look. Reiriei was usually a relaxed guy, but not when it came to his role on the team. He also got less playful the more tired he was. In the morning, it'd be like night and day, literally.

She tried to reply, but instead sat in indignant silence.
After a moment of... silence... She spoke up, "Can I trust to be able to wake up tomorrow?" She rubbed her eyes.

Reirei gave a nod. "I won't kill you in your sleep." It was said in a tone that implied she would, given the chance. Granted, he hadn't exactly had the best experiences with Octo-kind.

Irving was hearing some muffled voices. That was pretty impressive, despite him being amongst a crowd of other inklings.

He couldn't make out any words, but he knew it sounded like girls, and they were talking about something serious. However, he had no idea what they were talking about.

So for now, he just started texting messages to one of his friends.
[Come in, Kinney.]
[You don't have to use that military talk with me, Irving.]
[Dang, I thought you were a big fan of that stuff.]
[It doesn't apply on casual days. The only person who'd constantly talk like that is that purple prick. Speaking of, we're up against Toxink later.]
[Are you kidding me?!]
[Unfortunately not. Because we don't have a 4th team member at the moment, Turf League has matched us up against them.]
[Dang, that salty roller and wannabe agent love to hunt me!]
[Better start warming up, because they're coming for us at 12 tomorrow.]
[Alright, seeya around, Jeff.]
[Sleep well.]

Irving lowered his phone, sighing at the opponents he'd have to face tomorrow, with more effort than usual.

"Heh, thanks," Molly slid down the couch into a lying position, curled up into a ball, and tried falling asleep.
...
"Hey, can you pass the memo up to them," Molly gestured to the room Marie went into, "as well? I don't want be responsible for giving them any ideas."

( Noivian Noivian Agent Agent SheepKing SheepKing Any of you still on-board? Damn I am so bad at keeping RPs afloat... Here, have a necro/time-skip. EDIT: Woah, I'm really bad at this. I posted this 10 minutes after you went offline Noivian Noivian LOL)

The sun rose in Inkopolis. While their popularity was waning, Off the Hook was still in the business, and currently performing Ebb and Flow, a fan favorite.

But that's not what you're here for, is it? There's plenty more interesting behind the scenes. Speaking of, Marie was just coming to.

She turned and twisted in her sleep, before jolting up, shouting, "No... no!-"

"Oh." she was dumbfounded, but she couldn't remember why, "Everything's in order..."

It took a moment for the events of last night to slowly catch up to her. She quickly got out of bed and dressed herself. She was going for a more modern look, though no time for anything too sophisticated. She slid the door open, "Agent 3? How you doing?"

The sight of an Octoling was a bit of a shocker, even if Marie already knew she was there.

---

Even as the sun rose, Molly was sound asleep on the couch. She murmured something in her sleep, and her tentacles softly shifted from color to color. It was a bit mesmerizing. Though Marie wasn't about to get caught up in an Octoling's color-changing tentacles.

(So, where are you now, after the time skip, Agent Agent ? At your apartment? In the middle of the Turf War against Toxink? Whatchya doin'?)

Shaken up. Had to be forced to fight Toxink two hours before the determined time because someone misplaced a few numbers.

A crushing defeat. Without a fourth squad member, victory was but a fleeting afterthought. Despite his ability to quickly splat the wannabe agent, their dynamo roller wielding leader always came and splatted him. Oh well. It was just a casual match anyway, at least to -his- team.

At least he could go and relax in his apartment now. He unlocked the door and went inside. As usual, nothing had changed. His girlfriend as usual, hadn't moved either. She was bundled up in her bed, reading her iSquid. "So I guess you lost?" Her voice sounded a little dead, as she hardly talked.

"Yeah." He grabbed a bowl from a cabinet to pour himself some cereal, as he forgot to bring has pack of pocky sticks with him. "Yunno Frost, you could've helped by filling in."

Frost shoved the blanket off of her, showing off her naturally grey ink, and a cloth eyepatch covering her right eye. "What, and your captain's sibling can't help?"

There was a brief delay before he answered that. "No." shortly followed by "Too many people are still prejudiced."

(Sorry Agent Agent , wasn't sure how to respond for a while. Taking control of you would be god-modding (also I dunno how to use your character), taking control of your char's GF would also be god-modding, and the lesser of the eeevils, forcefully grabbing your attention, is not quite god-modding but it's pretty rude. So I'll grab your attention with some sirens outside. Infact I'll just stop even making CS'es unless they become real characters that aren't throwaway puppets for the sake of words.)

Jump, slide, hesitate, turn. Duck into a crowd. Keep the police off your tail. Rinse wash repeat until the sirens stop. This was the life of an Octoling on the run. You wonder where everyone else is. Are they safe? Are they resting with their "friends" until the morning? Probably a good idea.

The Octoling slides into a safe haven - an inconspicuous alleyway hiding a treasure trove of amenities. The cram themself into a small nook under a structural support, and rest for the night. Red and blue flashes threaten to uncover them, however they subside after a few moments. In the morning the Octoling replaces their disguise, and seamlessly re-enters the crowds of Inkopolis. The wander to the Off the Hook performance, look around, and make an ominous hand gesture to somewhere backstage. Looking back and forth again, they quickly leave.

Marina pauses dancing for a mere moment, perturbed by the odd character. Though she doesn't want to ruin the performance, and she's sure her and Pearl could figure it out right after this next song, so she picks up where she left off. Though that doesn't remove the ominous edge from the usually-cheery atmosphere.

Once the performance is over, and the two are backstage, Marina immediately tells Pearl of the peculiar character.

"Pffft, it's nothing. Squids will be squids, as they say," Pearl brushed it off.

"No, Pearl, I think this might be a little more serious than some edgy inkling wandering the city. They made some sort of hand gesture to the stage before looking around and disappearing."

"Well, when you put it that way, they sound like some kind of criminal," Pearl almost mocked, still not believing Marina.

"Well, suit yourself. I want to see what's going on," though she can't do much without any real leads. A few moments later, some sirens grab the attention of the pop stars.

An officer inkling sees some suspicious activity, and confronts the suspect. A misunderstanding escalates into a heated argument, before the suspect simply runs off. The officer fires once, before turning to their vehicle. Sirens blaring, the officer attempts to chase the inkling through the streets. The suspect runs past apartment buildings, no doubt attracting the unwanted attention of any home-staying Inklings. Agent Agent

"Hey, I can hear some angry police outside." Frost says, hearing the sirens and running.

"Uh huh." Irving replies carelessly, munching on his cereal. He also heard the faint noise of someone trying to shoot something, or someone. Those cops were definitely getting bent out of shape. Irving stands up to look out his window to see if anyone was in sight.

(Marking le important things because I'm so posh and proper and I should be sleeping right now it's late anyways onto the post)
In the view of the window, an inkling runs down the street with a police car closely trailing them. They're both moving so fast that it would be hard to gather much useful information. Though it was apparent that the inkling was wearing a maroon skirt. Or something very similar at the very least. The police car whizzed past as well, somehow only barely keeping up with the lightning-fast inkling.

Agent Agent yeesh I need to go to bed

"Alright, i'll go uhh... have a look-see." Irving made his decision, and opened the window. "I'll be seeing you later, alright?"

"Mhm." Frost didn't even look at him as she kept tapping on her iSquid.

Irving confidently leapt out the window from the second-story of the apartment, grabbing the edge a second after he went out, and turned into a squid, harmlessly flopping onto the ground. "Hm." He'd smile if he could. "That was refreshing." He slowly slithered towards the last seen direction of the suspicious inkling. Without any ink, he was pretty slow. But stealthy!
...kinda.

Around a block away, the suspect took a series of turns and was now heading back down the road. But their speed definitely wasn't native to an inkling's humanoid form. As they were travelling impossibly fast, they stopped right in front of the little squid. Kneeling down, and taking glances behind thrm, they spoke, "What's a squid like you doing all the way out here? Isn't everyone checking out that concert across the city?" Distant sirens echoed, adding to the distant crowds' murmurs and other urban sounds. The streets were eerily empty, especially considering it was almost noon.

The squid having stopped gave clarity to their figure. They were a little above the average inkling, with long, lanky appendages. They had their tentacles combed back and tied into something of a bun. The clothes they wore were notably dated; slightly dull, worn in places, and an artifact of a long-time trend. Their eyes were somewhat intimidating vertical slits, on a pale blue backdrop. Somewhere in there was a bright, burning curiosity, almost visible.

"I'm good, thanks." Irving morphed back into his kid form. "I'm more of a Callie kind of person anyway."
He straightened his glasses. "You sound paranoid. Something troubling you? And what was with all that commotion?" He asked, blatantly not concerned about the appearance of the person he was talking to.

Hopefully those cops wouldn't come back, because then they'd suspect him of being... well, suspicious.

"Callie..." The squid ponders the name, mouthing the syllables as if they belonged to a long-forgotten rival. They became lost in thought for a mere moment.

The squid snapped back to reality with Irving's question, "Hah. Nothing could trouble me. However it pays to be cautious."

They paused for Irving's second question, "The cops, ah, don't particularly agree with me. They think they have all of Inkopolis under their control, I disagree." The squid stood back up to meet Irving, "Though you still haven't answered my question. Why are you out here? It's not exactly sunshine and rainbows when the streets are empty. Though I suppose a commoner like you wouldn't know about..." The squid hesitates, unable to grasp the right words, "stuff... like that."

Marie looked over at Reirei, slumbering on the other couch. She didn't exactly expect him to make it all the way. Marie is no morning person, so she shrugs it off as nothing, gathers her stuff, and leaves the apartment.

She shields her eyes from the bright sun, and stepped onto the streets. While sure, there were things in the fridge, Marie wanted something more elegant than some old rice straight from the bag. She was headed for an expensive restaurant, cutting right past the ongoing performance in the middle of Inkopolis Square.

(Would more people be willing to join if I said I was willing to try some Slice of Life?)

(sorry I’ve not been around much - finals, man. I’ll get a post up later today when I get home)

"Well..." Irving started walking in a slow circle around the unknown inkling. "It's mainly because you seem to be the opposite of what you want to be right now- as in you seem pretty suspicious."

He raised a finger so he could continue his chatter uninterrupted. "Now, i'm not gonna report you to the cops because you'd probably slap me in the face and run away... and there's the fact that I don't care about them." He adjusted his glasses again and cleared his throat. *ahem!* "So! Why don't you introduce yourself and tell me why the police are after you? My name is Irving, and yours...?"

(I can't tell if I'm cursed or blessed but I've got Kalamari Inkantation stuck in my head again)
The squid stood silent, somewhat shocked, while Irving spoke. They thought out their words carefully, "Hmph, you win. I was unable to produce valid identification for the officer. That's why I'm temporarily on the run." They seemed to avoid the first question, then mocked, "Any other questions, officer?" Meanwhile the faint sirens began to sound somewhat less faint. ---

Marie heard a faint siren. What were the police so wriled up about at a time like this? It's midday, and Off the Hook was currently performing in Inkopolis Square! Sheesh.

She simply continued on her way. Now was not the time for stopping 8-legged menaces.

A missing ID? The police opened fire, so either she's lying, or the local authorities are really messed up. But he didn't have time to probe further for a different answer, as there were now sirens. Ah shoot, I better not get suspected of associating with a "criminal".

"Nope, have fun!" Irving took a stick of pocky and put it between his lips before turning into a squid and hopping behind a nearby trashcan.

The squid turned around to see the police vehicle turning the corner. Not a pretty sight. And the inkling ditched them. Whatever. They seemed complacent with the answer, a simple lie to "keep the peace".

Either way, back to running it was. The squid took off with stunning speed, barreling down the street. She turned a corner and was confronted by the edge of a large gathering. There's the concert.

Callie. Did that inkling say Callie? She must've misheard. Nobody listens to the Squid Sisters nowadays. And what was up with that stick candy they had?

In the moments of internal monologue, the squid crashed directly into a somewhat oblivious Marie, "Oh, I'm sorr-" then they saw who it was.

---

Walking to the restaurant right past the ongoing performance, Marie couldn't help but stop for a moment to enjoy the music. Except she didn't stop. And then she slammed into another oblivious inkling. "Oh, excuse me," she picked up where they left off, "have we met before? You look oddly familiar."

"Nope, I've never seen you before!" A hasty lie which was easily isolated.

"Are you sure? You seem rather perturbed by something. By the way, I'm Marie, of the Squid Sisters."

"The Squid Sisters? Didn't they fall out of style a few years back?" Quick on her feet, she was.

"Oh, yes, it's been a little rough since then. If only we could go back to the good old days." Marie reminisced.

The inkling took this opportunity to bolt into the crowd. Before she knew what had happened, the squid was gone before Marie. It was a good thing, then, that Marie had already taken mental notes on their physique in case it came up in the future. You can never really be too sure with Octoling perpetrators lurking in plain sight.

Agent Agent

Strange. Who was that person? I guess I might see her around later.
After about two minutes, Irving stood up in his kid form, sure that the coast was clear. Half the pocky was left, now.

With nothing else to do, he strolled out towards the plaza. Maybe he'd play some casual turf war, or just mess around with Squid Beats and Squid Jump. He pulled out his phone and plugged in some earbuds to listen to a song which he'd heard many times, but he still enjoyed it nonetheless. Bomb Rush Blush.

(It sure is kinda 'meh' by myself. Wonder where Noivan is?)
Spoiler alert: Doing finals or school stuff.

A rumbling noise reminded Marie of her mission for quality breakfast, and she promptly continued the journey on foot. Every once and a while she had to sidestep a gawking Squid Sisters fan, though it wasn't particularly difficult.

She waltzed lazily down the street, mentally plotting a course to the perfect breakfast restaurant. This place was so good, it was not only worth the price (not that money was much of an issue), but, to Marie, it was worth potentially getting swarmed by fans. Even for their rice, though their bread was objectively better.

Sitting down and picking up a menu, Marie picked out one dish that sounded a little better than the others.

"M... Marie?" the waiter asked, "Of the Squid Sisters?"

"Hmm, yes, that's me," Marie answered nonchalantly, "Can I get the Panini special?"

"Oh, o-of course!" The waiter hurried off. It wasn't a particularly busy day, but a celebrity was definitely an unexpected surprise.

While waiting, she stared out the window with a look of longing. She's made someone's day already. She really needs to get out less.

The dish came from the kitchen piping hot. Almost better than what Marie had imagined from the menu's description. And the taste was even better. It was beyond description.

Marie thanked the present staff, payed the bill, and was off again.

---

The squid had ducked into the crowd, keeping an eye on Marie as she confusedly looked for them. After a moment, they observed her walk off somewhere. Good enough. They turned at the sound of sirens and a car slowing to a stop next to the crowds. They hesitantly cleared for the officers, and began asking the bystanders questions. "Have you seen this Inkling?", "Where did you see them last?", that kind of stuff. Knowing they were quickly becoming unwelcome, they slithered through the crowds faster, searching for an escape route.

Reirei bolted straight upright on the couch. What day was it? What time? How long had he been asleep? Sunlight was already filtering through the windows, so it still had to be morning - if it were noon, that meant there wouldn't be sunlight filtering in. He looked across the way to the Octoling they had taken in last night. Damn, he had never intended on falling asleep. He had wanted to keep an eye on them! Throwing his blankets off, he swung his legs over and stood rapidly, assessing the current situation in the living room.
