eva cai is a difficult woman to comprehend, but nonetheless, is an alluring subject to those who do not know her well. she is not only is she a great conversationalist, but she seems to be able to adapt to any environment she is placed in with ease. she is like a chameleon in that way. she moves with confidence and with a purpose in mind. she rarely goes into anything completely blind. though many might find these traits of hers to be unsettling, she is actually a rather reliable and trustworthy individual. she might be able to rummage through one's mind, but that does not mean she is not willing to take one's secrets to her grave just as she had as a kuomintang spy during the chinese civil war.
her many years on earth have molded her into an intelligent woman. though she has seen much of the world and has lived many lives, her curiosity has never died. she is constantly striving to collect new knowledge. it is at no surprise that she is a witty little lady. she seems to always have a comeback for whatever is thrown her way. though she is a perfectionist and can be a bit of a firm teacher, she can also be very easygoing as has never been someone to be quick to aggression.

backstory
eva has never been very fortunate in any of her reincarnated lives--always dying young and facing numerous challenges in life. but this cycle all began in 676 c.e. in tang dynasty, the golden age of china. eva, or rather cai lei, was the eldest daughter of an aristocratic family. she was lucky to be born in such a time when women were less bound to feudal etiquette. according to law, she was free to choose her marriage partner and could potentially participate (of course, in a limited sense) in activities such as politics, horseback riding, sports, and other popular arts at the time. even so, it did not mean she was not bound to duty nor did it mean she was free by any means. after all, she was still considered to be inferior to her male counterparts.
eva's gift of telepathy appeared early in her life. at first, her family thought her to be just gifted in intelligence and somewhat reluctantly allowed her to study with her younger brother, xiu. but her parents soon realized that there was something off about their daughter. she seemed to know things that she shouldn't and was able to relay their thoughts to them as if she had heard them out loud. the young girl also reacted badly to crowds and often fainted or became physically ill when put in such a situation. of course, by the time they realized that their daughter was not just gifted in intelligence or plagued with an odd illness, some of the servants had begun to whisper about the eldest daughter of the cai family being involved in some sort of inhuman magic. out of fear that this rumor would spread about their daughter, her parents were quick to silence those who dared speak ill of eva.
at only nineteen years old, eva married a man zhao yuxuan, the eldest son of another aristocratic family within the empire. though she did not particularly want to marry the arrogant womanizer, she did not want to disappoint nor trouble her family any longer. however, the once naive young lady would not realize that this arrangement would ultimately lead her into death's embrace.
eva's trusted maid and best friend, daiyu, came along with her to her new manor. by the time she was married, she had her powers under better control. she no longer was overwhelmed by voices in a crowd and had found a way to block out the thoughts of others. eva had never worried about daiyu exposing the family secret for obvious reasons. however, she never accounted for her friend to fall in love with her new husband.
one could probably guess where this story lead. eva's secret was exposed to her husband by her trusted maid and the guardian was eventually arrested for treason. though it was not common to execute a woman during the tang dynasty era, eva happened to be one of the few exceptions.

in 1926, the guardian was born again, this time as the daughter of a nationalist government official and his beloved wife, who resided in shanghai. from an early age, the guardian had began to gradually recall her past lives. her parents thought her early mental maturity and intelligence to be both peculiar and thrilling. eva seemed to pick up skills far before her peers and had always been rather independent. how lovely it was to have such a talented daughter. of course, they would not let this gem of a child's talents go to waste.
instead of arranging a future marriage for their daughter as most parents, her father thought that she would be a valuable asset in nationalist party during the later portion of the war. so, at the age of eighteen years old, eva became a spy. over the next few years, the young woman collected information on the communist party and relayed secret messages to the nationalist party, all while playing the role of an innocent woman. but like many of her other lives, this arrangement would not end well.
in 1948, eva was unexpectedly captured while in she was collecting information in northern china. one would think that a skilled telepathic individual like eva would have seen it coming. however, the girl did not expect to be knocked out during the broad daylight while on her way back to her temporary home.
after her capture, she was interrogated (you could probably guess what that entailed) and when she refused to give up any information on her allies, she was executed.
