Clockwork Syringe

The Night Blade
Uneasiness, excitement, fear, wariness; these were the emotions that were currently running through the incoming class of Rodren University. On this auspicious day it was an overcast sky as the sun hung lazily behind the blankets of clouds refusing to come out. The smell of freshwater hung in the air as a soft breeze passed through creating an almost idyllic scene. In order to get to Rodren University, one had to take the ferry across a lake that was fed and exited via the tributaries, one that had not arrived yet. The Dock creaked with activity as students, workers, and the like were passing the time waiting by playing cards, fishing, and drawing, to name a few activities. Still, it didn't look as though too many individuals were bored as they had something to occupy their time with.

Zenima was one of the few who had decided to go fishing, one of his hobbies and one he picked up during his time with the Dawn Rose. It was a nice distraction and allowed him time to think as he waited for the ferry to arrive. Looking back briefly he couldn't be sure of the circumstances that led to his consideration and acceptance at Rodren; who was this Headmaster Richard Ophidian? It seemed that his commander knew who he was, which is why he reluctantly let Zenima go to the academy; he was losing a valuable mercenary and one that had been with the guild for a few years despite how young he was. Zenima wanted to go, he needed to, if he had any chance of recovering his memories he would take it. Clutching the amulet he kept hidden under his armor, he sighed a bit. He was found with this on that fateful day 6 years ago, the furthest back he could remember, what was this amulet? Stashing it away and leaning back on the wooden railing, Zenima continued to fish, perhaps he'd be able to find lunch before the ferry arrived.

Brushing fluttering stray hairs out of her face, Valeris turned the well worn page of the spell book she had read maybe a dozen times by now. She was trying to keep herself busy, sitting on the sideline to avoid having to put on her friendly face already. A porcelain doll, dressed in emerald green; she almost looked unapaorachable, which made have been why she was being left along. Her hair once again was pushed out of her face as she straightened up, her hair now cascading down her shoulders as she glanced around. The students appeared to be a good mix of nobility and commoners, only based on their clothing of course. She herself was wearing one of her white tunics, tight brown leather pants, and heeled leather boots, as well as an emerald green cloak made of velvet, with silver fastenings. She looked like a noble, her mother made sure of it, though Valeris was also armed. Her sword, while not on her belt at the moment, rested beside her as it was uncomfortable to sit with. Yet another reason she was probably being left alone while she let her eyes wander.

As she was watching the other students, she noticed a few of the boys fishing. Valeris smiled softly, fondly thinking back to when she watched her brothers fish in that old pond those father would take them too. After a few moments of this, she stood, putting her book back on its strap on her right hip, and grabbed her sword to move closer, keeping her eyes on the boy wearing leather armor. He seemed to be grabbing at something underneath it, which made her wonder if he was injured or just clutching a keepsake. The second possibility seemed more likely, because why would the staff allow an injured student on board without there being some huge commotion? Reguardless, that thought slipped from her mind quickly as she walked to the edge of the dock.

She took a moment securing her sword to her belt, before Valeris leaned forward on the small bit of railing, looking out on the lake. It was peaceful, and would be even more so if not for the students. The mountains in Odalor didn't really have lakes like this, or, none she had the time to go see, because unlike her siblings, she was still in schooling. In any case, this was the most relaxed she had felt in a while, the game that came with noble birth never allowing her a chance to rest, this was a minor improvement. The noise was still an issue, but, you can win them all I suppose. Valeris sighed once more, running her hand through her hair to, yet again, get it out of her face; before she continued to watch the scenery as they all waited for the ferry.

Alex held a chunk of wood in her callus covered hand and slowly formed a rough shape into the rough block with a carving knife. Alex decided to carve herself today in order to challenge herself she didn't really know what she looked like so she started out with the basic shape of a female long hair was the main part as well as soft features that define her face. As Alex was digging away into the wood with her carving knife her eyes wandered upon a girl that looked like a porcelain doll so she decided to convert her self sculpture into one of the girls maybe this would be a good way to make her into a friend. Alex would sneak glances at the girl and eventually became fixated on the girl's eyes spending minutes carving them to be almost perfect replicas. As time went on the girl eventually got up and walked over to a man that was sitting near the edge of the water 'Maybe they are friends?' she thought to herself watching the girl as she gracefully walked over to the man growing ever closer to the edge of the water. Alex looked back down at her statue it looked close enough to the doll-like girl especially her eyes but the problem was Alex made the hair look like her own as it was supposed to be a self-sculpture Alex sighed and started changing the hair slowly to match the girls she started cleaning up the rough outer shape trying not to rush her work Alex could see the girls back so it made shaping the hair easier and when Alex had something she was relatively proud of she stood up giving a sigh while stretching.
"Do I have to do this?" Alex looked up while mumbling.
"Yes, it would be good for you!" A small voice in the back of her head responded.
Alex slowly walked over nervously to the girl near the water edge and she stood next to the girl almost shoulder to shoulder she looked out into the distance admiring the view of the violent water and she took a deep breath smelling the sea water while holding the small carving in her hands.
"A gift for you?" Alex said sheepishly while still looking into the distance she kind of held the small replica statue of the girls face offering it to her hoping that it wouldn't make her made or make Alex seem like a stalker.

Elric walked onto the docks, his heavy leather boots causing it to creak. The young half elf wore a long coat, black shirt, and dark green pants, and even with more masculine oriented clothing he still looked remarkably close to a woman. He kept to himself mostly, his right hand always going for the handle of the knife he kept hidden on him, a nervous reflex when around a large group of people he did not know. Sitting down, Elric pulled out his journal and quill, writing down what he was doing right now and that he was waiting on the ferry. He wondered how long this would take, and good captain would be on time, not late. But with a sigh Elric pulled out his curved knife and started spinning the blunt end on his finger, doing something to pass the time for right now. His father taught him how to do a few tricks with knives to help pass time, or make some quick coin. Tossing the knife up into the air, he caught it with his left hand and then slipped it into its leather sheath. "Now I just need to wait for this bloody boat," Elric said to himself as he closed his eyes and listened to the water hitting the docks.

Friedrich was sitting on the edge of the dock, swinging his legs, fishing pole in his hands. He was in a pretty good mood right now as he was very happy to be going to the University. Also he was doing one of his favorite past times, fishing. Nothing nibbled yet but he hoped to reel one in before the ferry had arrived. Friedrich glanced at Zenima who also was fishing. Seemed like he was empty handed as well. "Nothing biting?" Friedrich asked the quiet teen. Friedrich loved to talk, he also loved to make people uncomfortable but today he tried giving off a great impression. He didn't want people to think of him as an annoyance, not yet.

The gentle breeze ruffled through the girls hair as her pair of extra ears noticeably twitched on top of her head. Amber eyes glanced out upon the crowd of what she assumed were fellow students, her thin black slits where a typical round pupil would be shifting about as she looked around. The red markings around her eyes could easily be mistaken as eye liner perhaps given the other strange features she seemed to posses. While her strange ears on her head seemed to twitch a bit in the breeze, it allowed also for otherwise normal ears she possesed to be visible the shape helping to associate her to have a likely more human heritage rather then elven. her red and black jacket held to her bod,y the head left down seeming rather odd given her lack of sleeves. Truthfully the hood was more for the sake of hiding her ears, though it seemed pointless when she would likely see many of those on the docks around the school anyways. It had served its purpose in venturing there tyring to minimize 'trouble' as best she she could.

A simple spear was on her back, two thin strands of rope being used to hold it in place. It wasn't the most easy to carry weapon, typically she tended to use it like a walking stick or just carry it to her side, though being around others it was something more frowned upon giving her the need to put it on her back. It would be a bit troublesome to use in a pinch, but she wasn't anywhere that the need to use it should ever arise anyways to begin with. Upon the back of her waist a simple knife laid sheathed, a small bit of string keeping it from slipping out of the sheath. It wasn't meant for fighting or hunting compared to the spear instead being used much more for utility purposes. A knife always came in handy when it came to skinning an animal or cutting something in a jiff. It left her wondering if there were others who might have some experience as well being away from civilization and diving into the untamed wilds. Seeing a few students fishing at the very least they seemed to not all be from the city.

A mixture of both fear and excitement filled Rhea. The notion of going to some school to hopefully learn how to use her magic better was more then exciting. She could only wonder how many strings Cyran had to pull to even get her a place in such an institution. He had always been rather cautious with raising her, yet always being very hush hush about anything in particular. The only thing she really knew herself was that there were many who looked upon her as some danger. She took his last name though it was something she was happy about and didn't think much of. She truthfully never knew her parents that well to really have any attachment to them. What little Cyran would talk about her mother had been one of his most promising students and her father was a child of a close friend of his. Sure, she had some nervousness about how good she would do at the academy, but the real fear she had was of the other students. She couldn't help but be nervous around others. It wasn't something she ever showed... more so she tended to hide it behind being a bit feisty herself as if a form of self defense she had.

Rhea's eyes couldn't help but spot a boy tossing a knife into the air spinning it around. It was rather fascinating to her seeing it used in such a showboating way. As impractical of a use it still seemed fun. Her eyes couldn't help but spot his ears, noticing he seemed to be elven... although she had to admit his ears did seem a little off from what she could make out from under his long hair. It made her feel a bit more comfortable to approach him. Having an elf as her adopted father tended to make her more trusting he might be friendly to her, or at the very least not go and pick on her like most humans she met would if not completely disavow her with contempt.

"Hiya! It's a pretty nice today isn't it? That's a pretty cool trick you can do with your knife there, I don't see many people being able to go throwing it around like that, never mind catching it without being afraid of accidentally cutting themselves." She spoke in an attempt to start a conversation. It wasn't her worst attempt at trying to start a conversation though it probably was pretty clear she wasn't all that certain what to say, half sounding as if she had stumbled upon a coherent choice of words to use by accident. She could only stand so much just standing around, she wanted to find a way to fit herself in and he seemed like her best chance. She had seen some staring at her earlier seemingly avoiding her a bit though that could just be temporary. It was possible she could fit in just fine a the academy after all without being picked on or anything, she just had to fit in was all right?

When she felt someone grade her side, standing closer than one should to a stranger, Valeris did nothing but glance at the red headed girl. She was use to people suddenly coming up and standing next to her, trying to make small talk, or other activities along that line, she still didn't expect it of this crowd. The girl was slightly taller than herself, even while wearing boots with a heel, and she didn't have the aura of a noble to her, so this girl was most likely a commoner brought here on extreme luck. Anyway, she looked back out on the water, before her attention once more went to the girl as she spoke. A gift? Valeris' brows furrowed slightly. What was the purpose? Did this girl want something in return? The typical questions that came with spontaneous gifts circled her mind, but, after a few moments of not moving not saying anything, Valeris took the small wooden carving.

Holding it in the palms of her hands, she instantly recognized her own face. That was a bigger surprise than a gift from a stranger, so, Valeris didn't quite know what to do. But she had to admit the carving was lovely, she could tell this girl worked hard on it. The eyes themselves were done with such detail, Valeris couldn't help a small, but genuine smile creeping upon her face. Another few minutes of silence pass as Valeris examined the carving, running her thumb over every detail, before she straightened up and looked at the girl. "Valeris Tiren, of the Odalor noble house Tiren. This is a lovely carving, did you do it yourself?" She asked, before pausing and chuckling slightly, "What am I saying, of course you did. My father carves wood as well, he gets the same calluses, and refuses to use any lotion," Valeris continued, putting on her normal ditsy girl charm. That casual smile, gently sway of her body, and tiny chuckles here and there nromall put people at ease, even though they knew who she was. "Oh! How rude, I didn't ask your name! Or thank you for this," she said, holding up the wooden charm slightly, "So, thank you, Miss..."

Elric looked up from where he was, seeing the odd girl in front of him. He cocked his head to the side, studying her momentarily before a gentle smile came across his face. "When one is raised with a weapon it becomes part of them. My father taught me these tricks, he was a rather......flamboyant man, always showing off and being the center of attention, a little of that has rubbed off on me." Elric's voice was very angelic, soft, and would be perfect for being a bard if he did not choose to follow magic as his career choice. Elric stood up, holding his hand out to the girl, his eyes going up and down her body as he studied her again, trying to pick up anything about her that might be hidden. "I am Elric, a pleasure to meet you, miss?"

Alex sat there her hand stretched out holding the gift up to the girl and she wasn't replying which made Alex think that she did not like it slowly her face got a little red from embarrassment before the girl took the small wooden carving. When the girl took the small wooden statue Alex looked over parting her hair out of her face to see that the girl liked the gift and was smiling which made Alex's worries disappear they quickly returned however as an awkward silence now filled the air Alex was horrible in these situations but wanted a friend so she was about to say something when the girl turned to face her and spoke up.
"Valeris Tiren, of the Odalor noble house Tiren. This is a lovely carving, did you do it yourself?" The girl asked Alex, she never thought that she would meat a noble but Alex didn't really understand what all it meant as she went to answer Valeris her voice was cut short by another.
"What am I saying, of course you did. My father carves wood as well, he gets the same calluses, and refuses to use any lotion," Alex was surprised that another person shaped wood as she did but when Valeris said this it made her unconsciously rub her hands in embarrassment once again Alex was about to respond when Valeris spoke up once more which Alex didn't mind truth be told she wasn't much of a talker anyway despite wanting to be.
"Oh! How rude, I didn't ask your name! Or thank you for this So, thank you, Miss..." Valeris said leaving a pause for Alex to answer to which Alex sheepishly replied.
"Dias, Alex Dias...My friends call me Al..." She said with a slightly awkward chuckle because that was what her spirit animal called her mainly in a taunting fashion Alex parted her hair once.
"So did...did you really like the statue?" Alex asked Valeris never being praised for her work before, it felt nice though.

Valeris couldn't help but notice Alex rubbing her hands, and the nervous body lounge and undertones of her voice. She must not socialise often. That was fine though, Valeris often prefered the introverted type because small talk wasn't exactly what they liked. And neither did she, but this girl seemed like...hmm, it may be a slightly different situation. But, Valeris liked a challange. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Dias," Valeris said, noting she didn't know the family name, so her previous assumption of this girl not being a noble was most likely correct. "And yes, I do. I've never had a little statue of my face it's quite cute," She said, moving her cloak aside breifly to reveal a leather much on her belt. She, with one swift maneuver, opened the pouch and put the little wood carving inside. "I'll keep it there so it's safe. It might even bring me some luck, don't ya think?" She said, not expecting a response.

Again, another few mome.ts of silence pass, though the air of awkwardness shouldn't be as quick as it was only minutes ago. Valeris was quick to full this silence however with a few questions. Unfortunately small talk, but they would provide some useful information about this other girl. So far, she could only tell a few things, so she could skip a few of the typical questions you would ask, and get straight to the point. "So, what type of Arcane are you? I'm a Blood Arcanous, and since your here, im assuming you know what that means, yes?" Valeris asked, it possibly comming off as a ligtle condesending, though she didn't intend for it to sound like that. "Oh, and which kingdom are you from? I'll guess Rendalia, but I could be wrong."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Dias, And yes, I do. I've never had a little statue of my face it's quite cute," Alex let out a little blush while tightening the grip of her hands no one had ever commented on her carving before mostly because Alex was too embarrassed to show them to anyone most people would scoff saying women shouldn't dirty their hands so much so it felt good for her to get recognition of her work. Alex watched wondering what Valeris was going to do with the small totem Valeris moved aside her cloak and opened a small leather pouch setting it inside of it.
"I'll keep it there so it's safe. It might even bring me some luck, don't ya think?" Alex nodded in agreement while turning her gaze out onto the water while no one was talking she closed her eyes taking in a deep breath smelling the water in the air she looked completely different from the sheepishly shy girl a moment ago a small smile crept on her face before she opened her eyes again.
"So, what type of Arcane are you? I'm a Blood Arcanous, and since your here, I'm assuming you know what that means, yes?" Alex didn't know what she meant when Valeris said blood Arcanous but she assumed it was just controlling blood so she quietly nodded her head before responding.
"I have an Arcane Contract...With a Fey..." Alex responded back not meeting Valeris's eyes not wanting to see her reaction either good or bad, most people would taunt her saying its a stolen power and that she does not deserve it.
"Oh, and which kingdom are you from? I'll guess Rendalia, but I could be wrong." Valeris quickly asked another question, Alex didn't really know what kingdom she was from but she remembers the forest of her hometown.
"Naryssia?" Alex questioned tilting her head while looking up into Valeris's eyes admiring the color of them, hoping that the town was in Rendalia so at least Alex wouldn't look more stupid than she already was.

Rhea looked towards the half-elf glad she wasn't just immediately ignored or shunned. It was sadly a very common occurrence when she went out openly in public. Most would simply move away from her or avoid her in some hopes of avoiding contact. Those who she did manage to speak to were very often quick to pretend they didn't hear it or in the much more unfortunate cases attempt to invoke their patron deity to banish her or call guards to do so. Fortunately the extreme case had only happened twice in her life with Cyran close enough to come and dismiss the guards before anything bad really happened. A teen tended to not get as much pity attention as a little kid did.

His explanation was.... a bit strange truthfully to her. She really wasn't one who saw the use of a weapon in such a way herself. While she had been using the same spear for a few yeas now, it was just a spear to her. Her proficiency never came off to her anything more then her becoming more accustom to the weapon. Despite not really understanding that mindset, she still elected to nod in response not wanting to scare off someone she managed to make contact with right away. People always had their own little quirks to them as Cyran said, and it wasn't worth being critical of something harmless when you likely had things others would view as strange. She still enjoyed his dexterous use of his knife even if it was more for show.

Rhea seemed to shift back a bit as he extended out his hand as if startled by the gesture, missing his gaze upon her body. She shook her head a little bit as if to collect herself after a rather pointless reaction to what looked to be a simple handshake. She really hadn't done one of those before but she had witnessed them before. She reached out, looking a bit awkward as she took his hand lightly squeezing it to shake it not at all able to hide her uncertainty if she was doing it right, nor the light embarrassed blush that fell on her cheeks for feeling as if she was looking dumb though she did what she could to pretend that wasn't the case.

"Miss? Oh! My name is Rhea, nice to meet you! I'm a new student to the university like you, I mean I assume you are a student being here... or a teacher... err..." She fumbled with words shaking her head as if flustered by herself doing a poor job saying what she wanted. It was clear she probably was better off not making too many assumptions. She shook his hand again lightly this time attempting to cut down on trying to assume stuff and making herself sound stupid, although unintentionally doing so again. "It's nice to see an elf here, my adopted father is an elf though I never really got to see that many. The only village nearby was a human village, and the cities I've been to I never saw too many elves around."

Zenima was approached soon by a tall man who was also fishing. "Nothing yet unfortunately," Zenima began, "Fish aren't biting today. Must be all the bodies moving around on the ferry docks scaring them off. I think I'll pause for now," Zenima collapsed his fishing rod and put it into his rucksack. "From what I've heard the university is surrounded by a lake so it may make some nice fishing." Zenima was about to introduce himself to this new individual when he overheard a conversation with two women next to him, talking about their contracts, one of whom had a fey contract. That alone caused Zen to perk up. The fey that he had encountered were a toss up, they could be bad or good, still he had to confirm his suspicions. "Hold on for one second," Zen said to the man. turning to his right, Zen approached the two women. "Excuse me," Zenima began. "Sorry if I'm interrupting, but correct me if I'm wrong are you truly in a contract with a fey creature?

"A fey contract?" Valeris asked, a hint of surprised excitement covering her words. "That's impressive! I haven't met many fey, and while most of them were friendly, having a contract with one is something I've only rarely heard about, that's very impressive." This girl was going to be her friend, no matter what. A contract with a fey? Normally it was demons, or elementals, at least in Odalor. There were a few people she had met in favor with a fey, but never had a full on contract, this girl was rare in deed. But her tone seemed to shift when Alex answered her next question.

"Darling, that's not a kingdom, it's your town, yes?" she said, her expression breifly changing to one of pity when she realized something. The way the girl acted, the nod when she said what type of Arcane she was, despite the expression on her face...this girl didn't have a clue did she? "You don't actually know much about the kingdoms or magic do you?" She paused for a moment, before giving Alex a slight smile, "No matter, I can help if you want me to. Reguardless, that most likely is a Rendalia town, I don't recall seeing it on any maps of Odalor. And-" she was stopped when the boy she had seen earlier approached and instated himself into the conversation. "Who are you? It's not polite to barge into a conversation without at least introducing yourself," Valeris chuckled, glancing at Alex, before looking back at the boy in armor.

Sash leaned back against the railing near the beginning of the dock. He wore a simple black jerkin and black and green pantaloons with black tights underneath. He also wore a deep green cloak overtop of it all that looked almost feathered like a bird. His staff of Rithmur leaned against the dock beside him. A book was in his hand, but he was not truly reading. Sash was listening to the conversations going on around him, trying to find out more about the other students before approaching any of them. He had also read this book before, and was not missing out on much by just glancing at the words and flipping through the pages. He was also, at times. watching people through his peripheral vision, readying himself if anyone came too close. There were a few nobles that seemed they might be worth talking to, but Sash didn't know if any of the other student might show great magical talent later. It would be better to become close to them at the beginning so it didn't appear as if he was speaking to them only because they were strong magic users. Well, perhaps he would just have to make some sort of good impression on everyone then.

"I apologize for the intrusion miss, but when I heard that she was in a contract with a fey it caused my natural curiosity to peak. My name is Zenima Kurikat and I'm from Rendalia, but you can call me Zen for short. Anyway in my line of work I've dealt with Fey on both sides of the coin so I was interested." Zen was originally taken aback from how this woman snapped at him, but hopefully it would subside. "Despite my rough and tumble appearance I am capable of magic much like yourselves."

"That's impressive! I haven't met many fey, and while most of them were friendly, having a contract with one is something I've only rarely heard about, that's very impressive." Alex smiled a little bit when Valeris said this not a lot of people were kind to contract holders where Alex was from she was mostly met with hate or jealousy.
"Darling, that's not a kingdom, it's your town, yes?" Alex tilted her head downwards in embarrassment wondering if she should of having said anything at all, Valeris was in the middle of another line of dialogue when a man suddenly entered into the conversation talking to Alex.
"Excuse me, Sorry if I'm interrupting, but correct me if I'm wrong are you truly in a contract with a fey creature?" The man spoke directly towards Alex scaring her a little bit she stepped back unconsciously not able to answer but it wasn't an issue as Valeris jumped in asking who he was and how it was rude to just barge into a conversation while Alex couldn't say if she agreed with Valeris. The man introduced himself as Zenima Alex herself had never heard the name and was set aside this was a lot of people she was meeting so she kept her distance a little bit having trouble trusting people.
"My contract is a Fey..." Alex said sheepishly from hiding behind Valeris slightly while talking towards Zanima.

Valeris bowed her head slightly, "I'm Valeris Tiren, of house Tiren in Odalor, it's a pleasure to meet you Zenima," She said, "I hope I'd didn't come off as rude, I didn't mean to sound that way. And, Zen, you wouldn't be here if you couldn't do magic, yes?." She honestly didn't care if she sounded rude, but she had trained herself to say that when the occasion arose, but again, she didn't really care. This boy didn't look like a noble, and while this may seem shallow, she wasn't particularly interesting in being mice to people without money or connections. Though Alex was going to be the exception. For now at least, her attitude may change. Anyway, she was a bit unsure of how to react to Alex trying to hide behind her, but Valeris took it upon herself to speak to Zen. "Yes, she did. Fascinating isn't it? People in Odalor don't often have Fey."

"It is a pleasure to meet you Valeris" Zen began, " To be fair, I was a late bloomer when it comes to magic knowledge, I only recently started using magic, but I grasped it and it came naturally to me very fast. On the subject of Fey, I've encountered them when I ran and joined missions for my previous line of work. Hell, my employer only let me go because he knew headmaster Richard Ophidian by name and reputation aparently." Turning to the other girl, Zen smiled warmly and began. "It is very fortunate that you've made a pact with a fey. Again, I'm sorry I startled you." Zen was not about to lay all of his cards on the table just yet though.

Alex didn't know how to respond to their smiles and welcoming words so she just nodded and gave a half smile in thanks, Alex stepped out from behind Valeris still standing behind her but not hiding behind her.
"Alex..." she said holding her hand up giving a little wave while trying to hold her composure, Alex kept eyeing Valeris to try and copy her body movements in order to seem confident because she had little to no clue about the places or things they were talking about although she would never admit it truth be told.

Friedrich watched the man go join another conversation which seemed to be much more interesting. He didn't really mind as he figured that he would get to know more people sooner than later. He cast out his line again and hoping for a nibble this time. He finally got one as he felt the string pull a few times. He waited til there was a large tug and started to reel in what he hoped was a fish. A fish appeared after pulled in his line. The fish had very intriguing designs and was full of vibrant colors. A large smile was on his face after catching the fine specimen. He took the hook out of the fish's mouth. This fish would be released as it wasn't your average fish that would be gutted and cooked. Too special of a fish for that. He placed the fish in the water and watched it swim back into the depths of the lake.

A small glimmer of colorful light caught Sash's eye, as the cloud-filtered light bounced off the vibrant scales of a fresh catch. Intrigued, Sash tucked his book into a small pouch, grabbed his staff, and walked over to the water's edge. A young man with long brown hair was letting a beautiful fish back into the water. Sash approached softly, crouching down beside the man. "What an odd fish" Sash murmured "One so brightly colored must be a easy target for predators. Do you know what kind of fish that was sir?" Sash asked with a puzzled look on his face.

Friedrich turned to the sight of a man with a staff, quite a interesting fellow to look at and by the looks of it, already well taught in the magical arts. " It's a Rainbow Trout, quite a beauty." Friedrich said with a smile. "I'm Friedrich by the way or you can just call me Fred." He said holding his hand out to get a proper handshake. He seemed like a good fellow that he would want to get to know and would want to be friends with.

"My name is Sash." Gripping Fredrich's hand firmly he smiled. He seemed like an honest type. Letting go of his hand, Sash asked "where are you coming from?" while picking a flat rock out of the leather pouch at his waist. He tossed the rock at the water in a way he thought might cause it to skip "somewhere near water I expect" he grinned. The rock violently jerked and dragged across the surface of the water for a moment, before being pulled underneath the surface. "A bit harder than I expected" chuckled Sash, this being one of his first times around so much water.

"What a coincidence! Alex here," Valeris nodded to the other girl, "Seems to be fairly knew with magic as. Every woman in my family can preform magic, so I've grown up with it. My grandmother actually taught me a fair bit!" She sounded very proud of either herself or her grandmother, more than likely it was her grandmother she was speaking highly of. She's a powerful magic user, many people are actully scared of her. Perhaps it's because her grandmother doesn't make empty threats...Valeris took after her in a lot of ways. "Anyway, you mentioned a previous line of work?" She asked with a cocked eyebrow, her eyes fluttering up and down his body as she tried to asses what it could have been.

The way he held himself, and the armor suggested something to do with combat, but the way he spoke was more refined than most combat types she had had met. At least, the ones who share is scruffy appearance. Perhaps he was a hunter? That would make sense, though maybe it was something more violent? He had mentioned an employer. "I'll admit to some curiosity," Valeris started, "We're you a Hunter? Or a mercenary?" She didn't expect either of those guesses to be right in the money, but she had a slight sparkle in her eye when it came to discovering new things.

However, her attention turned to the girl she had been watching in the corner of her eye, giving her a soft smile. "Alex, there's no reason to be so nervous. I don't bite, and I have a good reason to believe that he won't either. Everything's okay." Alex was decently not use to dealing with social situations, and Valeris could already tell it would take a while for her to break out of that shell. One of her friends back in Odalor acted very similar, and all you had to do was be patient. "Anyway, I hope the three of us will be friends! You two seem very interesting."
