Filling out Your Skills & Attributes

While the rest of the CS is hopefully fairly self-explanatory, the Skills and Attributes grid can be a little bit complex so we've provided a step by step guide to walk you through the process.

As you can see, the stat grid has three rows: attributes, skills and bonuses. The 15 points you start the RP with are only divided up among the categories in the first row, the skill row is filled out by averaging together different attributes and the bonuses row we will discuss further down.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 1 to 5 1 to 5 1 to 5 1 to 5 1 to 5 0 to 3 -5 to 0 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills (str+stm)/2 (agi+str)/2 (per+agi)/2 (int+per)/2 (stm+int)/2 (stat+stat)/2 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses

Your first step when filling out a stat grid should be to allocate points to your basic attributes, your character's strength, agility, perception, intelligence and stamina. You can go to the mechanics page to learn more about what each of these attributes do but this guide will assume you have already done that. You'll observe that in this example table we've allocated all our points to basic attributes but when you fiill out your grid you might want to reserve some of your attribute points for Mastery which we will cover further down.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 5 3 2 2 3 0 to 3 -5 to 0 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills (str+stm)/2 (agi+str)/2 (per+agi)/2 (int+per)/2 (stm+int)/2 (stat+stat)/2 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses

Calculating your basic skills is as simple as averaging together the two attributes related to that skill, in fact the exact formulas are displayed within the grid if you are unsure. You can see our example character has a fairly balanced skill profile, with good taijutsu and tools scores and very average scores in their other categories.

Skills 4 4 2.5 2 2.5 (stat+stat)/2 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses

Now you might find that the skills you end up with through this process don't quite suit the character you wanted. Maybe you wanted to specialize a little more, or you wanted to be really good at ninjutsu but terrible at genjutsu even though they are both partially derived from your intelligence score. This is where the two attribute categories we ignored earlier, Mastery and Ineptitude, come in.

Mastery is an attribute that allows us to raise any skill. Each attribute point invested in the mastery category allows us to add a bonus of +2 to any skill you want. These bonuses are marked in the third row, like so. Keep in mind that a character can only ever have 1/5th of their total attribute points invested in mastery. So with 15 points total to start with a new character can only have a maximum of 3 attribute points in it.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 5 3 2 2 3 1 -5 to 0 16
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills 4 4 2.5 2 2.5 - (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses +2

We've decided our example character here should be good at taijutsu, so we've spent an attribute point in mastery and added the +2 bonus there, raising our taijutsu score to 6. Now if you've been paying attention you might have noticed a problem: that extra point we spent has brought us to 16, one over the 15 point limit. This is where Ineptitude comes in. Ineptitude is like a negative, or opposite version mastery, we can lower our ineptitude score below zero to free up attribute points to spend elsewhere. However, each point we take out of ineptitude like this confers a penalty of -2 to a skill of our choosing, just like an opposite version of the +2 bonus.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 5 3 2 2 3 1 -1 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills 4 4 2.5 2 2.5 - (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses +2 -2

There we go, back to 15 points. Our genjutsu score was already very low so we've decided to neglect it completely and apply the penalty from our ineptitude there. This character is now very vulnerable to even basic genjutsu, but they have great taijutsu for a genin and lots of other options to fall back on as well. Now plenty of characters will be done at this stage. However anyone who wants to have particularly rare, or special techniques will have to deal with the specialization section of the Grid.

Specializations are described in greater detail on the mechanics page, so you should read that section if you intend to take one. But in short specializations are like extra skills. They cover unusual, or specialized techniques that not all shinobi will learn and utilize. Kekkei Genkai and Hiden techniques are two examples of specializations but there are some more common ones too: sensory ninjutsu or fuuinjutsu for example.

Each specialization has it's own score, just like the rest of your skills. Some specializations are derived from the same attributes as basic skills but many have their own, unique combinations. Some of the more common specializations have their attributes listed in the mechanics page, but for custom specializations or more obscure ones you will probably need to just ask a GM.

Let's adjust our example character's grid so that he can take a specialization and then give him Nintaijutsu: a specialization derived from strength and intelligence that will take advantage of his best attribute.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 4 2 2 2 2 1 -1 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: NintaijutsuSpecialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills 3 3 2 2 2 3 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses +2 -2

All Done! Now all that's left is fill out the rest of the character skeleton.

Hayate Yamamoto

hlh753d.png

We're done for the day, kick your feet up and take a load off.
Hayate

  • Team: Hayate
    Rank: Jounin
Personality: Overall, Hayate is far from the most serious shinobi to exist. Often found making jokes and comments even in the heat of battle, or lazing about during what time off he can claw out for himself. It's not too uncommon to hear him complain about how tedious and boring mundane missions tend to be. Though he'll get them done if only to avoid getting chewed out by the Tsumikage. Something he considers worse than helping clean out a barn. ("Seriously though," he'll complain, "who hires ninja to muck out stalls...?")

Despite this, threaten his students or someone close to him and it'll be like flipping a switch. Levity giving way for deadly determination to put a stop to whatever the threat may be. When it comes to the defense of someone, Hayate has little regard for his own safety. Standing down against impossible odds if it means the rest get away safely without so much as a second thought.

In all honesty, the thought of being a sensei terrifies the jounin. Having the lives of three young genin to defend and mold into the village's next generation? He often wonders if he's even cut out for the task, but would never voice such concerns. At least not sober.

History: Born to the Yamamoto clan, Hayate began learning to use his Crystal Release at a young age. Having shown a natural aptitude for both it and genjutsu - the clan's specialties - there were a lot of high hopes for the little Yamamoto. Except, there was one little problem... Hayate himself found those traditional techniques to be boring. Attacking from a distance and manipulating the minds of his opponents could be cool. But there was something thrilling about clashing up close and personal. So he heavily neglected his genjutsu studies and only looked to crystal release to form melee weapons.

Hayate would tell you his time as a genin wasn't all that remarkable. He became good friends with his teammates - Jun Atsukiyo and Tsubaki Kazehana - and often got in trouble with his sensei for slacking. But they got their missions done, slowly growing stronger together and eventually passing their chuunin exams. The years were hard, but Hayate looks back on them fondly.

As is common for ninja though, that happiness wasn't meant to last. It had been an ambush by shinobi from Jingakure, separating the three of them and making it impossible to back each other up. Hayate managed to finish off his own attacker, but couldn't get to either teammate fast enough to help them, slowed by walls of flames. Badly injured, the timely arrival of backup from Tsumigakure was the only reason Hayate even survived.

Hayate blamed himself for his teammates' deaths. Spending most of his time in the hospital stewing over his inability to get to either of them fast enough, or get past the flames unharmed. The moment the chuunin was discharged, he set to work trying to find a way to prevent it from happening again. It was likely the first time Hayate had shown such a singleminded determination. It took him a few years, but Hayate finally managed to create the teleportation technique that's since become his signature jutsu.

Eventually, his original demeanor returned, Hayate even reaching the rank of jounin. Though even with a couple years under his belt he wasn't prepared to have the surprise of genin dropped in his lap.

Clan Info: The Yamamoto clan is responsible for taking the special gems mined by the Kounna and cutting them to be worn. They've tried to use their Crystal Release kekkei genkai to recreate the stone, but even attempts at stimulating a sample to grow causes it to lose its ability to absorb the miasma. They claim it’s in case the mine runs out but it's obviously just political assholery.

An artistic clan, they specialize in using their crystal release with genjutsu or elaborate ninjutsu. Battlefields they've fought in can be left looking stunning.

Ichiro, the Feral

1579365103415.png
"Alright, first off, I am literally the worst person to be teaching you. I only made sensei by losing a bet. Guess ya might make a decent fight someday though, so I'll see what I can't do to toughen up those muscles. DODGE!
Ichiro

  • Team: Ichiro
    Rank: Jonin
    Personality:

A blood knight. Ichiro lives for battle, the moment his life is in danger, when he can hear his heart beating in his ears, when his body is pushed to the very edge. He savors it like a sociopath, and tends to throw a fit whenever a fight ends, showing cruelty out of frustration more than anything. Ichiro would give the whole world for a good fight. Ever since he matured (slightly) as a jonin, his definition of 'fight' has become looser, including some forms of competition that aren't quite blood sport. The word 'bet' itself instantly gets his attention, and if he thinks different than you and bet is applied to it, he WILL join in.

Blunt and honest, Ichiro is incapable of lying. If he says he'll do it, he will move heaven and earth to make sure it happens. Part of Ichiro likes everyone fearing him for being a blood thirsty psychopath, so he tends to drum up those aspects of him, but he tends to be more human than he lets on. He refuses to push anyone, and won't ask anything he himself won't do. This philosophy has actually turned him into quite the handiman as he hates the concept of paying someone for something he doesn't know how to do. This has led to him picking up all sorts of skills, often failing miserably when he first tries, but he'll keep at it.

He has a secret soft spot for kids and will kill anyone who would bring that up.

    History: At least three paragraphs

Some of Tsumikage's best come from prestigous clans, severe discipline and training, and age old techniques. Ichiro spits in the face of all of them. A street rat, Ichiro got into many fights as a kid, brawling was just who he was. Of course, no teacher, no ninjutsu he often lost. One fateful day, he picked a fight with a ninja. It...uh, ended badly. Ichiro had never seen so much of his own blood. And what was worse, he'd lost to a woman! But he'd sworn he'd learn something that day. He couldn't fight a ninja without ninjutsu.

Most people would stay far away from a man who'd almost murdered them, but not Ichiro. He stalked the woman relentlessly, trying to find the source of her power. The kunoichi, Kuroneko, was amused by this, and made a game of it, flashing away, laying traps, and occasionally letting him catch her train. Ichiro stole everything he could. The first time he'd been caught in a rabbit snare, he remade one to catch the kunoichi with perfectly. It caught some other helpless genin, but that was acceptable losses.

He caught her molding chakra, and he began to observe quietly, and try as well. He got angry when she corrected him and showed him the proper method.

Eventually, one day while navigating her traps, he felt a hand on his back, and turned to see.... some creepy looking mother@#$#'er in a dress.. Ichiro rolled his eyes, but Kuroneko appeared nearby. "See, that's the one I was telling you about. Better than most of my genin. I want to add him to my squad."

Ichiro blinked, not having much of a say as the two girls talked it out. After about fifteen minutes, he finally spoke up. "Don't I get a saw in this? What'cha talking about?" He felt a fist in his gut, and Kuroneko smiling over him. "Nope!" He'd later learn this was the Tsumikage that Kuroneko was talking to.

He woke up with a room of other scrubs, and an odd headband on his head as the infernal woman was talking about fighting bandits. Ichiro was in.

His path to ninja hood was marked in blood, but oddly high success, even on missions that 'weren't his style.' He'd bitch about them for weeks, but they got done. He also kept challenging Kuroneko to fights, and would inevitably get his ass kicked, and then she'd give him pointers, not even bothering to tell him to do something new, just how to do what he was doing better.

Thos were the days, and Ichiro secretly wished they would have continued forever. But as often happens with ninja, one day his sensei went out to a mission around The Village Hidden in Life, and just never came back.

Ichiro waited like a loyal dog at the training spot for her. Days, weeks... months. Finally the Tsumikage herself came to give him the news. With a snarl, he too disappeared.

When he appeared next, he walked up to the Tsumikage's office, in the middle of the thickest of the miasma, and demanded his jonin status. Surprisingly, he was granted it. Taking reckless mission after reckless mission, it seemed like Ichiro was on the warpath, determined to get himself killed, and take as many enemy ninja out the way with him.

Out of the blue, the Tsumikage challenged him to a duel. Ichiro was delighted. He'd never fought her before! She was the strongest in the village. She did ask for a favor though if she won. A bet it was!

Ichiro has no recollection of how that fight went, but when he woke up in the hospital, she handed him an assignment of teaching genin. The next building over could hear Ichiro cursing her out.

Clan Info: Village orphans tend to be found roaming the streets.

Miho Shimamura

Miho.png

gettin' too old for this shit- No! Wait! Forget I said that! I'm not even freakin thirty!
charactername

  • Team: Miho
    Rank: Jonin
Personality: Once upon a time Miho cared, cared a lot even. Not so long ago Miho Shimamura was a driven, ambitious career woman thinking long term about making a run at ascending to kage, right now though she just wants to go home and maybe smoke a cigarette before falling asleep with a book open. It wasn't any one event that derailed Miho's ambitions, more like a gradual build of disappointment, cynicism and apathy. She was passed over for promotion one too many times, stifled by red tape too often and spent one too many birthdays alone without ever having had a serious relationship.

So now Miho just...doesn't really give a crap. Make no mistake, she still does her job and does it well, just because she no longer cares about her job doesn't mean she intends to get sloppy and die while on it, same goes for anyone around her. But she's done going above and beyond, Miho completes her missions in the most efficient, painless way possible, not sparing any extra effort and as soon as she's off the clock Miho is out the door and God help anyone who tries to stop her. Of course, having to baby sit a trio of baby genins doesn't exactly fit into this plan so any potential students can expect a certain amount of resentment, especially if they were planning on making any after hours calls. Still for anyone who can keep up and not piss her off too much Miho's rich body of experience and clear eyed, unromantic view of shinobi work will be very valuable learning opportunities.

History: As far back as she can remember Miho wanted to be a shinobi. Maybe it was growing up poor that made her want something more for itself; maybe it was growing up surrounded by seven loud, older brothers that made her want to stand out. Maybe, certainly at least partially, MIho just thought it sounded cool. Whatever it was that first ignited this spark of passion Miho nursed it into a roaring fire throughout the span of her first two decades. She ran away from her family at ten, traveling across the country on foot and hitchhiking to arrive at Tsumigakure to train, after arrivign she worked nights at a dingy little inn, sweeping and cleaning dishes to pay for a room and her academy fees.

Miho wasn't especially gifted as a shinobi but neither was she particularly handicapped either, she wasn't very strong or blessed with large chakra reserves but she was nimble, alert and a quick learner. What really set Miho apart from her peers though was her obsessive level of dedication. When her peers were hanging out Miho was training; when they were first starting to date she was picking up extra missions; when they were getting married Miho was taking a stint in anbu to improve her career prospects.

This seemed just fine to Miho, none of her peers really liked her all that much and the feeling was pretty much mutual, the closer she got to them the more they held her back she felt, trying to drag her down to their level just like her family had. Gradually though this began to get less and less fine. See those other shinobi all had something MIho didn't: connections. They were members of clans whose older members pulled strings for each other, or they had buddies in other departments who went to bat for them. The higher up Miho went through the shinobi career track the more and more influence and relationships began to tilt the scales in other people's favor. Miho was working twice as hard for half the recognition and it began to wear on her slowly but steadily.

One day Miho woke up outright wondering if all of it, or even any of it hadd been worth it. What did all her achievements, that she had sacrificed actually mean. That was two years ago and Miho hasn't been the same since, she's bitter, aimless and worrying the few people who still care about her. In a bid to reignite some passion in her the Kage has arranged (very firmly) for Miho to teach some genin for the first time, something she has never really been keen on, only time will tell how this plays out but Miho sure as hell isnt looking forward to it.

Clan Info: The Shimamura family have nothing to do with Tsumigakure, they live in a poor village quite some distance away and for the most part work in the family brick making business (except for Tomusuke, the black sheep of the family, who started a tile making business instead) Miho does visit them for the occasional holiday, an ordeal she finds almost unbearable.

Sachiko Kounna

1579139732137.png
1632549238091.png

Don't worry, I'm lucky, like a rabbit. Also like a rabbit, prone to getting viciously torn apart by wolves, so... we get out of this I call it a plus!
Sachiko Kounna

  • Team: Miho
    Rank: Genin
Personality: A friendly klutz, Sachiko loves nothing more than to praise others of their skills, always finding a way to brighten a conversation or make a big deal out of something someone has done in a positive light. To call her hyper would be one hell of an understatement. She often seems a bit dull and a bit insane in her logic, taking conversations in completely the wrong direction. At least she's good for a laugh.

Sachiko doesn't want to be taken seriously. She wants her teammates' ideas to be praised and doesn't think much of herself personally. Its why a conversation about her will quickly be redirected to literally anyone else. Her 'logic' is so other people's ideas are taken seriously, and her coordination is much higher than she portrays. Sachiko prefers other people to think she's inept and 'at least she's trying her best'. Whenever she aims at a practice board, she never goes for the center, but pick various points around the circle. Out of the last 1,000 kunai thrown, not one has hit the bull's eye.

She does like helping her teammates train though, and tends to keep them company during their exercises, and offering herself as a human dummy long as the jutsu's not TOO lethal. If not, she can just comment and sit around with the odd conversation or so.

There is one aspect more deprived of Sachiko than all the above put together, however. Her ungodly love of puns could make an enemy nin stop just to facepalm. She generally keeps a book of them in one of her back pouches. And she will unleash these without mercy on friend and foe alike!

    History:

The Kounna clan, a prestigious clan famed for their explosion release. Sachiko was born 2nd child to the clan, and showed no talent in their natural Kg, not even having a regular chakra disposition, let alone the Lightning Earth Kekkei Genkai that combined into the clan's famous Explosions. Both of her brothers were natural-born geniuses at it, making quite the bang in the clan. The two often hung out and taught each other tricks. Sachiko was just happy to tag along and watch, not really thinking anything of it. She didn't feel jealous because her brothers never made her feel inferior due to it... okay maybe she felt a little bit jealous, she was always the third wheel, but they were amazing. Koshirou, four years older than her, and Koki, a single year behind her.

There was talk of Koshirou becoming a jonin when it happened. He'd even visited the Tsumikage's residence. As ninja do, he was sent out on a mission too difficult for him against the Hidden Life Village. Rather than let his squad get wiped out, Koshirou stayed detonated himself in a large blast, decimating the pursuing ninja and letting his teammates. He did his village proud, but it devastated Sachiko's family. The moment she was named heir, she ran away, and her clan couldn't find her.

She chose the quarry to hide in, refusing to believe her brother was hurt, and not wanting to come out. It wasn't anyone in her family who found her, but an old black smith gathering some material from the area who found her hidden behind a stone rock. He invited Sachiko into his house for tea. She shook her head, but he insisted, not taking no for an answer as he literally hefted her and set her down in a chair. Then, to the amazement of Sachiko, didn't ask what was wrong. He went on about how the weather was going nicely for his bonzai garden, and it was about time for the spring showers. Continuing the conversation mostly by himself, he went for nearly an hour, and Sachiko started to realize, while she was still sad, she was feeling much better. Without even asking her name, he told her she was welcome to stop by any time, and thanked her for the company. Sachiko hadn't said a single word, but was able to return home, somewhat in a daze.

She did go back. Tea was provided as promised, and this time she went on for an hour of her problems, and the old man simply listened. At the end, all he said was, "You're a brave girl, and I'm sorry to hear that. What do you think should happen now?" And an idea sparked in her head.

What should happen? Koshirou's favorite little brother, Koki should be clan head. He should have a chance to shine. The only way he could do that was if he was better than Sachiko. She didn't have to fail, she had to succeed, at everything, so her brother could succeed much more heartily. She had a goal. A legitimate striving for mediocrity. Thanking the man profusely, she returned home.

After a few months of this, it occurred to Sachiko she'd never asked the old blacksmith his name and had never given her own. During the middle of the tea, she stood up, bowed, and introduced herself as Sachiko Kounna. He smiled, introduced himself as the famed blacksmith of the village, Amakuni Yasutsuna. She asked if him being famous meant she shouldn't be having tea there? He laughed and said she was welcome any time.

Sachiko tried commissioning a few pieces from the old smith, he smiled, and whispered his pricetag. Sachiko went pale, and stopped asking. Amakuni laughed, and said he'd be willing to teach her though, a ninja shouldn't trust their tools to anyone else. Sachiko started to learn, though she never got good at it.

Her skills in shurikenjutsu also began to spike as well. Not wanting to be noticed, Sachiko began to aim and miss. Repeatedly. She only ever got the bare minimum to pass, which her teacher began to be suspicious of, but she passed every single time. Sachiko took up a gambler motiff purely to spite their sensei "Just luck!".

When exam time came, Sachiko knew she had harder goals than anyone else. Perfection was easy. The bare minimum was much harder, so she snuck into the office to steal the exam ahead of time, and studied it well, technically cheating and getting a lower score than she deserved. Again, a perfect 60. When their sensei graded it, he stamped her overall grade, and pulled out a huge bottle of sake from his desk and told her to get out.

As congratulations for passing, her parents presented her the cloth for her headband. Her brother, her toolkit. And old man Amakuni? He let her commission a single project he'd fulfill, telling her she could go for the most elaborate blade she could think it, it was a present. When she asked for a few bo shuriken, he laughed and told her he wished he had more customers like her. Then she presented him the outline and materials she wanted and he stopped laughing.
TLDR, 2nd child in a large clan. Became heir. Doesn't want to be the heir. Makes friends with a blacksmithTries to get everyone to name her younger brother heir. Decides to be mediocre.

    Clan Info:

Kounna Clan - A clan of explosion release users, the Kounna clan lives by the quarries and mines, and often assists in mining with their infamous release. (Kounna, however, doesn't share this, but does happen to be a 'princess' of a major clan in the village). They were one of the clans that left aside the Shimuzu when Tsumigakure was founded. They tend to have a fair bit of political clout but remain neutral on most matters.

Kurio Shimizu

wAuyS2h.png

Hold still, I'll get you patched up.
Kurio

  • Team: Ichiro
    Rank: Chuunin
Personality: More often than not Kurio comes off as calm and collected, that soft smile and gentle voice rarely leaving even in a high-stress situation. It's a trait common among the Shimizu, having the importance of keeping their emotions in check drilled in them at an early age. Kurio looks out for his teammates, offering support and encouragement where he can and patching them up whenever they fell.

Not that the boy isn't without his passions. He could talk all day about his favorite manga, though he's shy to talk about any of the figures made after them. Let alone show them. Kurio enjoys his privacy, with his room being the only place at home he wouldn't show a guest.

History: Born to the Shimizu clan, Kurio had an Akuma sealed inside him at birth as is tradition. Being the nephew of the current clan head and Tsumikage, Kurio wasn't in line to inherit the position of clan head at least. Even less so if his aunt were to settle down and have kids of her own. Despite that, he still had the clan name to live up to and lessons started early.

The most important of these was to keep his emotions in check. To lose control of them opened the door to losing control the Akuma sealed inside them. It'd make them a danger not only to themselves but to their teammates and village. Not that the lessons were all doom and gloom, young clan members are encouraged to find hobbies and outlets beyond their duties as shinobi. Kurio found himself enjoying tea ceremonies, even if the tea was more than a little bitter. As he grew older he developed a heavy interest in manga along with making figures based on the characters or specific scenes.

Even from an early age, Kurio saw the aftereffects of using the clan's power, the severe burns brought on by the Akuma's corrosive chakra. Techniques he was supposed to start training in after enrolling in the academy. Kurio refused, arguing instead to be allowed to train as a medic-nin instead. He went back in forth with his parents for a few weeks before Ema, the clan head herself, stepped in.

Much to the shock of his clanmates, she agreed. Though on the condition he would take on the clan's traditional training after becoming a genin.

Beyond that, the young Shimizu's time at the academy had been relatively uneventful. Not wanting to let Ema down, Kurio had thrown himself into his study of medical ninjutsu wholeheartedly. His performance at the academy had been average across the board as a result.

Now that he's graduated, maybe Kurio can put his skills to use for more than scrapes and bruises in the training field.

Clan info: Experts on Akuma and the creation of Jinchuuriki, the Shimizu are the founding and leading clan in Tsumigakure. While willing to listen to the other clans that have joined in with them, particularly longtime allies, they still have final say on matters. It's been a long road to finally carve out a proper place in the world, and they intend to protect the village and those inside of it. Even if the odds aren't necessarily in their favor.

Why do I continue to waste my time?
Wakanaka

  • Team: Miho
    Rank: Chuunin
Personality: A kind(?) hearted, if somewhat stubborn, young lad. Okay, really stubborn, like once he wanted something from the store as a kid and he has yet to live it down years later, even when he bought it with his own money he made a show of it to his parents as a "Fuck you it's mine no" type of thing... Like an elephant never forgets, this young man remembers each and every single slight against him and actively utilizes each and every single moment of his freetime, within reason if that isn't already breeched by that point, to finding a way to deploy his revenge.

This thankfully goes also into applying his than ks for good deeds done, he may go abit to far at times, but his heart is in it.

History: A long time ago, witnesses by the likeness of the Seven Lucky Gods, a woman gives birth, the child is sanctified, bestowed with as many gifts the shrine can gain, blessed with as many blessings the shrine could offer to ward off bad luck... However, it appears the gods saw fit to grant this young man a blessed birth... And make him very near sighted. Studious and strong, but his eyesight was... atrocious! This of course was only found out over the course of several years, reading was easy, but... Well... Lets say... he bumped into alot of things as a kid.

Thankfully, years of getting over this issue has allowed him to stop, mostly, hittings things with his forehead. Luckily, he was blessed in other ways. The academy was good to him, despite his eye sight issues reading was very much a easy passtime and he found himself capable in all facets of techniques despite genjutsu requiring good perceptive functions. Though being a hardass from a young age hasn't quite helped him get to many friends.

Nonetheless, he looks forward to a rewarding carreer with whatever jonin he is put under, he has great hopes and very, very high expectations for his future teacher!

He has hence since the start of his training come to believe less and less in the gods, for if to do so would mean his immence suffering at the hands of those he, begrudgingly, could call teammates would be their handiwork.

Clan Info: Religious, or in the very least keepers of the faith in a land full of ruin and death. The Tsube clan is a long running, and nearly undieing, family that is intent of supporting the people's needs for belief and spiritual protection. Their home is a shrine devoted to the Seven Lucky Gods, is one of the larger complexes due to it's function is a bastion for those looking to add that little bit extra luck in their life, or to give thanks for the luck they do receive. While many of the family have been practitioners of the shinobi arts many tend to retire to be priests after some time.

Shibata Yamamoto
18137-597764959.png
I'm aiming for the top, there's no room for anyone else there.
Shibata

  • Team:Hayate
    Rank: Chuunin
Personality: A single-minded perfectionist Shibata will be the best there is and anything less is failure and fun is a waste of time. His idea of a good friend is a training partner or study buddy as long as they don't get too far ahead of him, then they become a rival to be destroyed until they acknowledge his superiority, failing to bring down a rival results in grudging respect buried in a building tide of frustration.

While her laser focus is generally difficult to divert Shibata is easily buttered up by praise and manipulated by being asked to show off his skills. He also hates the idea of being indebted to anyone and will return any favours at the earliest opportunity often overdoing it in the process. A firm believer is the idea that form equals function he can make things a bit harder for himself in the name of finesse.

History: Second child of the current Yamamoto clan chief Shibata was initially raised under the impression that his several years older sister would be heir to the clan until she developed a degenerative condition which caused her to steadily weaken, while Shibata hasn't been officially named heir there is an unspoken understanding that his sister will not be able to assume the role.

Already something of a train-a-holic Shibata initially enjoyed the extra attention until he realised he was being groomed as a replacement for his sister and refused to train for a time until she called him out on it and encouraged him to work to meet his potential and do his duty to the clan. Picking himself up Shibata threw himself wholeheartedly into his training and his studies in pursuit of his ideal of perfection.

While at the academy Shibata's obsessive training continued with him working himself to exhaustion a few times before learning to moderate himself at least a little, his habits left little time to befriend his peers and his combative stance toward those that surpassed "his level" further alienated the standout students.

Shioreta Koino
3tbGiG5.jpg
In the grand scheme of things, an individual life really has so little value, yet it can be so interesting to see just how it might be wasted.
Shioreta

  • Team: Miho
    Rank: Chuunin
Personality: If there was one word to describe the rather frail girl the word would be stubborn. Despite being so fragile and weak Shioreta never gave up on her dream wanting to prove herself capable despite being advised even at a young age she was better off staying tucked away from the world not fit to do anything physical never mind being a Ninja. Despite having a rather bleak outlook on her life Shioreta is often quite bright and upbeat always smiling. She does her best to always be joyful, though she does have a bad habit of often having a dark sense of humor about her saying rather bleak things while managing to deliver it in a rather happy and off putting way.

While she always does her best to come off happy it doesn't stop her from deep down feeling rather down in the dumps. She tends to hide away her sadness through smiling even if she might hurt a lot deep down inside. There are many times where the pain or helplessness can get to her in her mind that she simply tries to suppress and hide away believing the best way to get over it is to smile and fight through it. She can be a bit envious of others sparking some jealousy though she tends to suppress it, though its been known to come out at times to time as small little verbal jabs she will often quickly play off as a joke.

History: Shioreta is an orphan taken into the village long ago. It was as a child efforts were believed to of been made to implant an Akuma into her.... a process that was believed to fail horribly leading to her general illness and fragility as a child. Despite appearing near death's door she was taken in by an old puppetmaster named Suru Koino. An entertainer by trade rather then a Ninja, the middle aged woman saw a lot of diseased younger child in her wishing to try and help the girl out. Constantly getting sick, hurting herself from simple play, or running out of breath and needing oxygen in order to help her breath she was far from an ideal child to raise. Despite this Suru worked hard to raise up Shioreta attempting to encourage the girl to not give up and try and live up to her dreams whatever they might end up being.

Shioreta took a liking to her adopted mother's puppetry rather early on. She took it on herself to learn how to do it, learning how to control her early puppet dog she named Ashi even at a young age despite having some hurdles with learning to control it due to her general lack of dexterity. When it came to the age of entering the academy to become a shinobi, Shioreta urged her adopted mother to let her join. While she agreed getting into the academy was a much different story being rejected up front due to being so fragile not viewing it to be possible for her to be a very effective shinobi. Suru helped to push for her to be allowed in with Shioreta going so far as to being tested barely making it through the test before they agreed to allow her in, though they expressed doubt she might be able to graduate in the end. Shioreta worked hard to do her best to prove them wrong.

Shioreta did her best to train herself. She was far from the most promising student and often struggled along the way. What she lacked in the physical department she applied herself intellectually working hard to ace all the exams she could to make up for her often sub par practical tests. While she continued to work through the academy she further progressed her puppetry getting her hands on more advance puppets working to prove her use of puppets could help supplement her own physical detriments. She dealt with a bit of bullying from her fellow classmates along the way but she was far to stubborn to give up. She felt she had to prove herself in the end.

Despite all the hurdles in her way, she managed to pass the academy and become accepted as a Genin. While she was far from the highest scoring student, she managed to pass with over-all average grades despite the struggle on the physical portion of her academy studies. Her skill in puppetry had helped to show she at least had talents that could make her useful on the field even though some would likely question her being there. It was her chance to show the world she could get past her own weaknesses... to go beyond what was expected of her.

Clan Info: The Koino family she was adopted into serve only really as entertainers in the village as of now. The family was said several generations to of had a Masterful Shinobi talented at the Puppet Technique though that predates the village itself and its existence. Shioreta's real parents are unknown being an orphan.

Okimi Bajirisuku

DCF32CA2-8488-44DA-94A7-E47C65EBD10D.jpeg
No matter what the rules say, whether I follow them or not is my choice, and mine alone.
Okimi

  • Team: Ichiro
    Rank: Chuunin
Personality: At heart, Okimi is hot-blooded and emotional. Against her mother’s wishes, she let’s this side of her slip out from time to time. Instead, Okimi maintains the outward appearance of a model student, daughter, and hopefully ninja. She never talks back to her superiors and follows orders to the fine print. It wouldn’t be uncommon for someone to tell their child to be more like ‘dragon girl who never causes a ruckus’. Okimi gives the word ‘calm’ a new definition, and not many things can make her crack. The only way to get under her skin is to speak ill of those closest to her, or her abilities. However, Okimi has become more of a trouble maker, and cares less for her reputation than she used to.

When Okimi cracks, she explodes. The offender becomes the first target of her rage, and she often assaults them with several balls of fire before calming down. If she can’t let out her anger on her offender, then she looks to the closest person to take its place. Those people usually receive a verbal assault while witnessing what can be summed up simply as a temper tantrum. Eventually, Okimi always stows away her rage. But like the inevitable rising of the sun, Okimi’s rage will return.

History: The Bajirisuku clan was never welcome in Hanegakure. From the village's early days on existence, the Bajirisukus attempted to control the village through intimidation and power. With their dragons at their side, the Bajirisuku Clan saw themselves as an unstoppable force. They were powerful enough that even other villages feared the mighty dragons of Hanegakure. Of course it was the people of Hanegakure that feared them most, and they weren't the type to live in it either. The Bajirisuku clan and the rest of the village soon went to war. Okimi's grandfather was the one leading the attacks. He possessed the largest dragon in the clan’s history, one that was green and breathed scorching flames. Okimi was told that he was the last of the dragon ninja to stand when his clan was defeated. Hanegakure drove out the Bajirisuku Clan immediately after the final battle that left their village heavily damaged. The clan wasn’t just driven out either, they were scattered and chased in different directions. Most were killed, others died later on starvation or by the wilderness. Few escaped to find safety. Of those few was Okimi’s mother who was 8 months into her pregnancy at the time. She and four others of her clan were taken in by Tsumigakure, likely due to the pregnant woman being present. Once let in, the broken clan had to try and be of use to their new home. All of them found odd jobs throughout the city, from delivering food, to housecleaning, to weapon making for a short time. The Bajirisuku Clan couldn’t quite make a name for themselves in their new home.

Once Okimi was born, and the draconic mark on her chest was seen, her mother had already planned out her entire life. Okimi was to restore the Bajirisuku Clan. Before that, she’d become a powerful ninja that the entire village respected. And even before that, she’d have a well scheduled life that would ensure the discipline to accomplish any goal she set her mind to. However, Okimi was quick to derail these plans. As a young child, she was terribly rebellious. She’d do the exact opposite of what she was told in order to spite her mother, and refused to play nice with anyone she was introduced to. She somehow managed to learn every naughty word in the dictionary too. No matter how strict her mother became, Okimi couldn’t help but embarrass her, and reject her at every turn.

Everything changed once Okimi summoned her dragon for the first time. It was a moment she’d never forget. A small green dragon, no more than two feet long took its first hesitant sniff of her hand as she reached out to touch the lizard who was to become her companion for life. The two took to each other instantly. From then on, Okimi began to do as her mother asked. She rarely talked back, and seemed to have returned to the path originally set out for her. It was if the dragon itself gave Okimi so much joy that actually going along with what her mother wanted wasn’t so bad.

Unfortunately, Okimi’s mother forced more than just her goals onto her. Okimi never knew much about why her clan was scattered across the land, but her mother convinced her that it was Hanegakure that forced them out because they feared the clan. She slowly but surely built a hatred of the village within her daughter in hopes that one day, she would be the one to not only restore the clan, but get revenge too. To this day, Okimi won’t believe anyone who might try to tell her that it was her clan who struck first. Even if it was true, she was already committed to revenge.

Clan Info: Originating from Hanegakure, the Bajirisuku clan’s claim to fame is their natural connection to dragons. Some Bajirisuku children are born with a summoning seal on their chest, right above their heart. They are taught to summon their dragon from a young age in order to help form a deep bond with them. Every dragon is different, not only in appearance, and elemental abilities, but in personality.

Sometimes known simply as 'Dragon Ninja'.

Aragi Onigake

The Battlefield is a Chess Board, and I am the King.
Aragi

  • Team: Ichiro
    Rank: Genin
Personality: Floating along like a leaf in the wind, Aragi takes all the things that life has to offer in stride, not letting it bring him down or push him around. Most people would see it as laid back, but he’d rather say that he was adaptable, willing to change course if it meant for a better outcome. He’s a strategist, and a competitive one at that, always keeping his eyes open and his ears listening for anything that could prove helpful. In this way, he doesn’t take half measures, putting full faith into his plans and really believing they’d help him succeed.

To say he was confident would get a weird response from him, as he wouldn’t consider it confidence to trust in one’s own strengths. He’s methodical and he knows it, always attempting to put his best foot forward and thinking ahead to get what he wants. Where the wild card comes in is when it's time to play a game. Any sort of game immediately brings out a more competitive side in Aragi, as he always wants to come home with the victory.

History: Aragi lived a quiet life for most of his early days in the village of Tsumigakure, enjoying his childhood and spending his days playing with other kids or helping out his mother around the house since his father had been a shinobi often away on missions. The Onigake clan is a small one, full of wanderers and tradesmen that would help eachother out, holding small gatherings where they could all reconnect and share their traditions. It was at these gatherings that Aragi had become enthralled by the game of Shogi, getting distracted by it while he was playing around with the other kids. After a few futile attempts of getting his attention, they just had left him to watch, and watch he did.

But he didn’t just watch, he asked questions and learned quickly, and at first the elders entertained his questions believing that Aragi was just another curious kid who would soon get bored and move on. But no, game after game he had stayed and watched, and at one point even asked to play. Of course the elders obliged, watching with a bit of interest as the little ones never seemed to like this sort of thing, and were amazed at how quickly he picked up the game. Though he didn’t win that first match, he had gotten pretty close to beating his opponent, which was a welcome surprise. The elders had celebrated his near victory, but Aragi hadn’t. He wanted to win, and continued to watch until he could figure out a surefire way to do so.

For months he had studied and played on his own, even challenging his father Inagi to matches when he would be home for a short period between missions. Both of his parents encouraged him in his endeavors, suggesting that he continue to practice and maybe even challenge other shinobi to games, as many of the clan heads were very skilled players. So wherever he could Aragi challenged them, he learned and learned, and would badger other people to play against him until they said yes. But this wouldn’t last long, as one day his father had been reported M.I.A., and both him and his mother had been hit by a wave of grief. Though there was no confirmation of his death, everyone around them treated it as such, but unlike his mother, who delved more into her cooking to mask her sorrows, Aragi wanted to find out what happened. And to do that, he had to become a ninja, avoiding the path of the chef like his father did. So the fervor that he poured into learning Shogi had been dumped into his training, even against the wishes of his mother, and as an academy student he had been highly praised for his intellect and strategy. So all that was left to do was to continue on this path and graduate, adapting the strategies that he had long since known and practiced in Shogi into his ninjutsu and taiijutsu, finding a piqued interest in Fuuinjutsu and Paper Ninjutsu, choosing those to be the cornerstone of his ninja way.

    Clan Info:
The Onigake are a relatively minor clan, with scattered members all across the Hidden village of Tsumigakure and even some present in smaller villages outside of the hidden villages borders. They are known for relatively little, but they all seem to have a shared interest in wandering from place to place, though that has largely subsided due to many conflicts arising amongst members when meeting relatives that are natives to other villages. Now, many of the Onigake clan reside in Tsumigakure as trradesman of all kinds, with the most well known being their excellent chefs, with years of study and knowledge from all across the continent being brought together into their food. Currently, there are several Onigake restaurants around Tsumigakure, with Aragi's mother Arami's being one of the most popular.

Akane Kabenari

vRm8izO.png

I am simply trying to ascertain the meaning of my existence, It's nothing personal
Akane

  • Team: Hayate
    Rank: Chunin
Personality: Akane is, for the most part, a quiet and dutiful girl. As much of the Kabenari clan is unable to take to the front lines, those few who are born healthy and with a working kekkei genkai such as Akane are burdened with a heavy duty all their lives. The clan's income and influence is predicated chiefly on the achievements of those few members who can fight with its less able members forced to work whatever odd jobs their poor condition allows. Akane accepts this burden with diligence and grace, dutifully training and studying and caring for her less fortunate family members. The Kabenari clan, distrusted by outsiders for the most part, are tightly knit and Akane enjoys her position at the centre of this warm and chaotic web.

Recently however Akane has discovered a new side of herself and is struggling with it. This side of the quiet, young girl has tasted death and bloodshed and developed a taste for it. In battle Akane's responsibilities and duties fade away and are lost in a haze of adrenaline, a brutal ballet of blow and counterblow that feels natural and addicting, so much so that after fights end the world often feels dully and lifeless. Is this lust for battle somehow a product of the modifications done to her genes? Or is something deep within Akane inherently savage and battle hungry? Akane is not quite sure but as she advances to chunin more battles and more brushes with this addiction are sure to follow.

History: Though the Kabenari clan are capable of producing some truly terrifying shinobi only a small minority of their members are born healthy and fit, in the vast majority of cases their own kekkei genkai develops improperly and cripples them. Akane was one of the lucky ones, healthy baby born with no complications or illnesses, from that moment on her fate was sealed as her clan pinned their hopes on her, praying that her income and exploits as a shinobi would prop up the clan's ever precarious fortunes. From a young age Akane seemed to accept her role and duties. The Kabenari clan is a warm, rather communal environment and Akane was raised as much by a cavalcade of aunts, uncles cousins and so on, most of whom were deeply ill or disabled. Akane cared for her relatives and was saddened that they could never enjoy the freedom from pain and effortless movement she had been fortunate enough to be born with.

Akane vowed to become the pillar her clan needed and devoted herself fully to study and training, fully intending to become an excellent shinobi and raise the standing of the clan as a whole. Unfortunately something was just... missing. Akane was a competent enough student and genin but not an exceptional one. She was athletic and strong and her kekkei genkai functioned well but she couldn't seem ot pull it all together in a cohesive package, she was hesitant in missions and struggled to work with her teammates, who thought of her as a freak they were burdened with. The team as a whole struggled to complete more than basic missions and missed out on participating in the chunin exams.

Then it happened. Akane, her teammates and their sensei were ambushed during an otherwise routine mission by Inochigakure shinobi. Akane's sensei was injured badly by a surprise attack and her teammates panicked and fled while Akane remained rooted to the spot in fear. Just as one of the enemy shinobi began walking towards the frozen genin to eliminate the loose end something inside of Akane snapped and her vision went red. When Akane returned to her senses she was covered in blood, only some of which was her own and one of the enemy ninja lay dead at her feet, the other two seemingly having fled. Akane carried her sensei, whi was still clinging faintly to life, back to the village and was rewarded for her "Heroism" with a promotion to chunin. However Akane's sensei, though he never said why refused to teach her or have anything to do with her after that day and eventually a transfer was arranged, placing the freshly minted chunin with a new squad.

Clan Info: It's said that Sangogakure is fascinated with kekkei genkai and that their top researchers are all dedicated to studying, manipulating and replicating them. If this is so then the Kabenari clan are proof that these researchers still have much to learn. The Kabenari are an entire clan of test subjects, a bloodline twisted and tampered with by human hands in the search for the ultimate warrior. Although a few of the Kabenari are indeed powerful shinobi it comes at a cost to the clan as a whole. For every capable and healthy shinobi the clan produces dozens are born deformed, crippled and sickened, prisoners in their own bodies. Eventually a small splinter of the Kabenari clan fled Sangogakure, where they were treated as failed test subjects, in search of a better life and although Tsumigakure gave them as warm a welcome as a traitor clan can reasonably expect their high number of invalids and difficulty producing capable shinobi have left the clan destitute and with little influence.

He will try to make his every strike have the highest probability of success before attempting them. Most of the time, Eizo likes to observe those around him and pay attention to his surroundings. Eizo will often be running through plans in his head, most of which he never has to carry out. Eizo tends to have trust issues with strangers due to fears that his grew in him after the "death" of his sensei. For the sake of appearances, Eizo is talkative with people and will act like he wants to make friends with everyone around him (to the point where it might seem a little fake).

When it comes to people he trusts and considers to be his friends, Eizo is supportive and open. He doesn't have too many secrets which he hides from his friends, and he enjoys spending time with people he trusts. Eizo also loves to train and fight, as is probably expected of a taijutsu specialist. He rarely holds a grudge and prefers not to seek revenge, but he always remembers. Despite his shortcomings and paranoid attitude, Eizo is fairly confident in himself and he won't back down from a challenge easily. His biggest flaw is his lack of improvisation and the need for constant planning and calculation before doing most things.

History: Having been born to one of the more reserved families of the Tanaka clan, Eizo wasn't expected to have much potential. Early on, in fact, the clan elders overlooked him when selecting young prospects that would learn to open the Eight Gates. Eizo didn't show much interest in training in his earlier years, as he much preferred to run off and explore Tsumigakure. During one of Eizo's excursions, he was found by an older woman who called herself Akari. At first, Eizo wasn't interested at all in her, until she picked up a small pebble and threw it into a pond she had in her home. When the rock bounced over and over on the water, Eizo's eyes went wide and he found himself enthralled. After that, Eizo would visit Akari's home every day to skip rocks with her.

One day, after a particularly bad argument with his parents, Eizo went to skip rocks at Akari's home. Due to his anger, Eizo ended up skipping a rock straight into a boulder, which almost broke in half on impact. Akari took notice of the young boy's strength and relayed what she witnessed to the clan elders, who quickly took an interest in Eizo. When he turned six, Eizo was recruited into the Tanaka clan training school, where he, and select other children of the clan, would train and eventually be taught how to open the Eight Gates. Surprisingly for Eizo, one of the main instructors was Akari herself, who took him in as her student. Naturally, Eizo's parents were ecstatic that their child would become a shinobi of Tsumigakure. As time went by, Eizo evolved quickly and outgrew most of his fellow trainees, much to Akari's joy. This was when he learned to open the first gate.

Eizo eventually joined the academy and passed with flying colors, becoming a genin. As a genin, Eizo ended up being slotted into Akari's team, which was just perfect for him since he'd grown to see her as something of a second mother. Besides, this allowed Eizo and Akari to continue skipping rocks whenever they went out on missions. Something began feeling off, however. It seemed as though Akari found herself distracted and babbling nonsense more often as time went by, which concerned Eizo. He brought this up with her several times but she simply stated that she was having family issues and that it was nothing to worry about. All of this came to a head just before the Chuunin Exams were set to begin, when Akari left Eizo a cryptic message telling him that he needed to forget she ever existed. Before Eizo could confront her, Akari was gone without a trace. What was even stranger, however, was that the Tanaka clan elders unanimously assured everyone that she had been killed on a mission even though there was no evidence to support that claim.

For a time, Eizo's parents were reluctant to allow their son to become a chuunin because of this, as they feared for his life. Eizo, however, had his mind elsewhere. Not only was he depressed that his sensei had just vanished, but he simply couldn't buy the story that the elders spread about her fate. The more he dug, however, the more distrustful he became of the official story, yet he became even more confused. It seemed as though there was no reason for Akari for having gone on a mission without her squad, but there was also no evidence that she had even existed beyond word of mouth. Sadly for Eizo, the Chuunin Exams were upon him and he needed to focus on training if he wanted any chance to leave the village and search for his former sensei. After a grueling series of tests and battles, Eizo emerged a fully-fledged chuunin and displayed incredible strength, somewhat calming his parents' fears. Now he finds himself assigned to a new team, Team Hayate, and has a new opportunity to venture out and find the truth.

Clan Info: The Tanaka clan is a fairly small and modest clan in Tsumigakure. They don't possess any kekkei genkai and they don't really participate in village politics. Most of the time, the Tanaka clan is seen as a group of people who do honest work and keep out of other people's business. What makes the Tanaka clan special is their Hiden, which is the ability to open the Eight Gates. Even though most members of the clan aren't fighters, there are some select members that learn this skill and are raised to be ninja and bring honor to the clan and the village. Genetically, the Tanaka clan seems to have bodies that recover a bit faster than others from opening any of the Gates due to their muscle tissue mending and healing more rapidly.
