Realistic or Modern Something Wicked This Way Comes: Carnival of Terror (group rp)

Lizbeth
They watched under the shadows of a trailer as patrons started to slither in at a trickle then a steady flow. Fear forgotten in order to not be left out. They made it to easy at times.

A few seem to notice them but the exposed joints of their arms and stillness resembled that of a prop so they quickly moved on. Watching some children pass by they knew they should be opening their booth but weren't really in the mood to eat right now. The memories from their past lingered at the back of their mind and ruined their appetite. Deciding to make themselves useful the began heading tp the big tent. They could always help with set up and may even perform.

As they flowed through the crowds, responding to the gasp and calls for attention with a smile, Lizbeth noticed Trixy passing by inquiring about Samantha. Remembering seeing her Lizbeth moved closer. "Samantha was heading toward the carousel Trixy. She was giving a girl a tour."

Arha:

She was walking over to the bigtop to set up for Samantha, when she saw her leading the girl to the carousel. She wanted to cry. She watched raptly as the girl, Lily, got on. She wanted to do something. Save her. But she couldn't.

She had never questioned the Carnival, Vie's Father had raised her from an egg. He was a conman, sure, but he raised her in the Carnival. She watched Lily and Sam for another minute, before feeling a tug in the back of her mind. It wasn't too strong a power, but she could always tell when a thread was pulled. It was Lizabeth, but setting up was more important. It wasnt an emergency tug (that signal was three pulls on any thread), so she ignored it for now.

She watched the stream of people pick up, sticking to the shadows, as to not kill anyone from fright yet.

Once at the bigtop, she started to set up, singing while she worked. A haunting tune, slowly bringing in a stream of people outside the bigtop, ready for the performance of a lifetime. Literally.

The carnival was an interesting place, even for someone who had been there for more years than she cared to admit. Though things often felt old and tiring, because no matter how many times they relocated, they were bound to the same scene every day, exciting things did happen. Granted, Dominique wasn't grotesque or cannibalistic, so most of the "excitement" wasn't actually exciting to her in the same way that it was to others. She didn't grimace at the suffering of others because it had lost its shock value by now, but she also wasn't turned on by it, as some of the others were. It was neither here nor there - just simply a part of life. Feeling guilty about it would only make life miserable, she had learned long ago.

There was something comforting about the feeling of the carnival settling into place after a move. It meant that they had a new home, for the time being at least. Sometimes Dominique found herself using her power of appearance alteration when the carnival touched down somewhere new. It was quite helpful in keeping their new prey calm, as with the discrete brush of a shoulder, she could take on the appearance of anyone that that person knew. She often transformed into friends of the carnival goers, allowing them to feel like they were in familiar company and that everything was going to be fine and dandy. Sometimes she would go so far as to ride rides with them, eat carnival foods and play games, up until the very last moment. Sometimes she felt bad for the deceit, other times, not.

Though she knew that Vie would have preferred she made herself useful by doing such a thing, Dominique didn't have the desire to play pretend at the moment. Instead, she left her trailer and headed through the carnival in search of its boundaries. She wanted to see where they were, and though they were typically in the outskirts or off the beaten path, sometimes reaching the edge allowed her some semblance of idea of where they were located. It didn't mean anything - it wasn't like she could leave if she wanted to, but it was nice to pretend to be empowered and knowledgeable.

On her way, she was nearly trampled by Trixy, whose surplus of energy was apparent as she tumbled through the carnival, just then being stopped by Lizbeth. Even if she was a jovial and energetic clown, if Dominique didn't know her, she'd still pin her as being creepy. All clowns were to most humans. "Calmati!" she chided, though only half-heartedly, as she knew that A. Trixy wasn't going to calm down and B. she was also harmless. While Dominique wasn't a fan of flamboyance herself, she appreciated it in other people. There was no way to stay sane here, so embracing the crazy wasn't something she could blame Trixy for. After all, Dominique could still remember her as another poor, innocent girl who got trapped here what felt like not so long ago. For a little while, she had nearly felt guilty for letting Trixy get into the trouble she had gotten into with Vie in the beginning. Dominique had inadvertently found herself taking on a maternal role to one too many performers, so the need to protect some of the new ones often came without her even meaning for it to. "And when you take a moment to stop being a lunatic, you better eat something tonight," she found herself warning the girl, trying to sound annoyed rather than maternal, since she disliked feeling so concerned about some of these kids. If Lizbeth was going to hang out with her, Dominique was happy to allow the two to do whatever they were doing. She needed a reason to not feel responsible.

Lily

Lily sat on the horse confused she didn’t remember getting on or riding it but she felt like she’d already been around It before. It wasn’t a happy good feeling though it made her feels sick to her stomach like it was painful. She climbed off and went back to the woman taking her cat out of her arms. Whiskers hissed and growled at her and lily knew something was off.

“Thank you for showing me around but I think we’ll be on our way.” It looked dark out like it was late and while she should’ve been worried about her mother’s reaction it felt like the horrible woman was no longer a problem to her. The more she walked the more she felt an odd impeding sense of dread and she couldn’t find the exit no matter where she walked or for how long it felt like it had been hours. She considered asking Arha but she didn’t want to ask for help just yet.

She stared down at the map again there was a place with animals a face painting booth and a fortune reader. She decided to check out the face painting booth since it was the closet and she began to make her way to the stand her bracelet jingling the whole way.

As the four individuals strolled towards the eating area, Kjell could feel something change within the carnival's atmosphere. He paused and tilted his head up slightly, nose pointed as he took in a light, quiet breath. It was an all too familiar scent. The way it tickled his nose and made his stomach dance in excitement was how he knew humans had stumbled into their little horror show. He couldn't quite tell how many had entered as his enhanced sense of smell only got him so far. The only thing he did know was that there was yet another person, or people, he'd have to avoid for the time being.

"We have guests..." Kjell said, his eyes turning that signature black has his dark veins pulsed beneath his fair skin. He took in a deep breath to calm himself, the momentary change in appearance subsiding. "Apologize." The man sighed as he adjusted his attire. His hunger had begun acting up more often lately and that usually meant it was around the time for him to have a human meal.

It didn't take long for the small group to arrive to the communal kitchen. Unfortunately, Dominique was no where in sight which meant it was up to Kjell to cook. He could tell by the look Elle gave him that the job would fall into his hands anyways. Once everyone got situated, the bleach blonde began boiling some water and preparing the necessary materials. While waiting for the water, he decided to go fetch Dominique since her cooking skill was better than his. Though Kjell was decent, his taste buds were not always reliable. Sometimes they were extremely sensitive so the food would end up under-seasoned. Other times they were not sensitive so the food ended up too flavored.

"Domnique." Kjell stated, appearing out of nowhere. He noticed Trixy and offered a small nod. "The children are hungry. Elle suggested pasta so I went ahead and prepared everything. I would cook it all myself, but I fear I won't be reliably tonight due to personal reasons." After relaying the message, he disappeared with a swoosh once again and arrived back at the kitchen, sitting down at one of the tables.

Trixy

Trixy had stopped stopped to take a moment to look around, though her lead leg was still poised to vault. She switched between searching for Samantha and taking in all the new faces. She was giddy as can be.
Her trance was broken by Lizbeth walking up to her, informing her where she had last seen Samantha.
She looked at her blankly as she spoke only to have her eyes light up as she finished.
"Grazie, mia bella amica!" she responded, turning to face her. With a twirl and some change she closed with Lizbeth and pulled a small bouquet of artificials from who knows where. In the time she'd spent here, no one could say she hadn't gotten good at her job.
She placed the arrangement in her hands as she passed her and went about her mission finding Samantha.
Trixy couldn't have gone further than 15 meters before almost aerialing into Dominque, a staff member much her senior.
She, unlike Samantha and Lizbeth, commanded a much more sizable amount of respect. That's not to say the other two weren't respected. She was just more often austere and authoritative and just as often correct in her methods.
Trixy knew she had almost taken somebody out but hadn't seen who. It wasn't until she turned to look and heard a familiar voice reprimand her that she shrunk into an ashamed or apologetic body language, holding her hands behind her back, bowing her head and giving Dominique a sheepish smile.
"Hehe...scusi..." she squeaked.
Again her mien did a 180 as Dominique changed the subject to her nutrition. She beamed at her calling her a lunatic.
"Never!" she impishly and prematurely responded to her telling her to stop being one, ignoring the rest.
Performing a back walkover, she made her escape from out of Dominique's reach and, with a peace sign to Kjell who had just arrived and offered her an opening, she went back to the task at hand; finding Samantha.
Trixy didn't make the trip singlemindedly, however. She stopped to interact with the guests fairly often and was mostly welcomely. Every now and again she'd give a few a taste of what was to come, leaving a group spooked and shouting among the sea of people.
Some time and several feats of acrobatics later, she finally made it to the carousel. She took a few moments to scope out the scene and pinpoint Samantha.
The second she locked her eyes on her and the girl she was with she screamed "Sammy!!!!" and energetically sprung towards her, managing a double Arabian half-out on her way.
"I been looking everywhere for you!" Trixy exclaimed, just now a bit out of breath. She stared expectantly at Samantha for a moment, then becoming distracted by her company.
"And who is this!?" she asked, already enthused by the girl.

Kjell appeared seemingly out of nowhere, and disappeared just as quickly, leaving her only with a request to come to the kitchen to cook for the others. While Dominique was more concerned for the others than she cared to admit, it was important to know that she didn't necessarily like being as motherly as she sometimes was. She felt that it was a personality trait that she had developed out of necessity more-so than out of desire, and it wasn't a trait that she wore constantly. She preferred to keep those thoughts in her mind until someone did something dangerous, or bothersome, or troubling, and then she would speak on it.

And today, being told that she was to cook while everyone else lounged around and waited for their food, as if she was their servant, had her feeling little concern for the others. It was a bit spiteful, but she didn't owe anyone her time anymore than they owed it to her. Outside of the few mortals that were involved in the carnival, most of the others had existed for extensive periods of time. While time seemed to be more of a man-made concept when it came to the maturity of some, they all couldn't play that card. She had a weird soft spot for Elle, who similar to how Roman saw her, felt like an annoying little sister. The others, though, were more than capable of being self-sufficient and call it petty, but there was something that irked her particularly about being expected to serve men. Even if she wasn't necessarily out and about in society to experience it any longer, she knew that times had changed since the days that she roamed free, and she enjoyed that. It was important to note, however, that she liked Kjell and Rogue. They were two of the more "normal" companions around, and she appreciated hanging out with them from time to time. In fact, she had cooked for them all many times before. However, Dominique was Dominique, and her moods were unpredictable and changed just as quickly as her physical form could.

While she had no interest in cooking for people who simply expected to be served, she was also irritable and hungry. If they had to entertain "customers" tonight, she needed to get something in her stomach. She was surprised that Kjell was able to sneak away from his booth now that customers were on the grounds, too, but she merely made a mental note of it as she headed towards the kitchen. "You're all out of your minds if you think I'm cooking for anyone other than myself," she said, turning the stove off and stepping aside to prepare a piece of toast for herself. "You can't make pasta by yourselves? Pathetic." Her words were cutting, but she lacked any true anger or passion in her tone, simply because she was feigning the harshness more than anything. This was her family at the end of the day, and she wasn't looking to insult them so much as she was looking to remind them of their place.

Nyx sighed as she felt the carnival settle. Putting her pets away, for now, she got up. The cards had already told her it was New York. It was interesting to be back here. She couldn't remember much from the last time. Or perhaps she just didn't care. Either way, it would be interesting to see who their new victims would be. As such, she left her tent, through the back entrance. The front was her fortune telling stall. She had it spelled that if anyone walked in, she would know. She could port herself through her shadows back. It often mystified her guests. Allowing her to gain more control without them realizing it.

She walked around the carnival. She made sure to wear her dancing outfit. She danced around the rows of attractions they had. To any guest she passed, she handed out an ancient looking card.

“Come see into the future at Nyx's Tidings and Fortunes” She told them. “Be dazzled by the shadows, bewildered by the darkness, enchanted by the cards” She then would move along swaying and dancing. Allowing the bells to ring as she did. She often found this was the most entertaining way to attract guests to her little tent. Her eyes almost glowed as she walked around. Her normally red hair a bright white. Her normally red eyes a crystal blue. Shadows and illusions were her gifts. Changing her appearance was easy. She preferred to look more human when luring them in.

To those that lived in the carnival, Nyx would either nod or wave. Depending on how well she knew them, and what she thought of them. She wasn't one to start drama, having had thousands of years worth to make it any sort of entertainment. No, she was more one to stay in her own little area of the Carnival. She did make a few friends as time went on. So overall, she didn't mind her existance. It was much better than being alone. But she wished to truly be free. Though it may never happen for her.

Zephyr

To say he was agitated would be an understatement. Zephyr snorted an pawed at his stall door, nostrils flaring and his angered eyes a warm shade of red. Zephyr disliked moving locations. especially while being confined to a small space with no where to go. The large Unicorn stood at almost 17 hands high, so he was slightly larger than the average riding horse. The stallion's mane dropped down onto his neck and the forelock covered a single eye, while his dull yet silver horn stood out like a sore thumb on his large head. Letting out a neigh in frustration he began to kick at the walls.

Finally as the Carnival came to a stop an placed itself comfortably in its location, Zephyr snorted as he was eager to escape the stall but it sure felt like a prison cell. FINALLY someone had arrived to release him and a few of the circus horses into the pasture. Zephyr took off running, the handler didn't even have a chance to remove the rope from his neck. Trotting around the open area gave him a slight sense of peace, however the trapped souls of the Carnival sang in his ears as they stay perked on his head. The handler was still attempting to retrieve his rope as Zephyr paced around the corral. Nickering an snorting at the other equines. The handler grew frustrated an leaned against the railing "You are such a pain" he muttered under his breath as he tried to fill his lungs to their capacity with oxygen. The dark stallion stopping in front of him he fixed his now dull silver eyes on the man, connecting his mind to the handler he let an eerie laugh fill the mans head "Silly man, you cannot catch me. Am I to fast? Would you like your rope, I am growing very tired of this game" The voice that sang inside the handlers head was again, eerie and of a masculine tone, its words almost slithering through.

The Handler seemed a little taken aback when the large brute came to stand in front of him, only a few short paces away. They turned ghostly white as Zephyr's voice called out to them. They stood frozen, much like a deer caught in a pair of headlights. Zephyr stood very still as they slowly moved forward, reaching out a hand to grasp the rope an pull it over his head. Lowering his neck slightly to make it easier, Zephyr then turned and took off like a bullet as the rope just passed over his ears. The handler, startled and slightly bothered took off running for the gate. With a heavy snort, Zephyr laughed to himself and shook out his mane before lowering his head to graze. He had adapted quite well to his new body once he stopped fighting it an realised it might not be so bad. The human world never enjoyed his company anyway.

Samantha smiled at Trixy as she flew over to her in the most flamboyant way anyone could, turning to see Lily walk away she grinned wider. Knowing exactly where the girl was going. "Well, you see we have a very interesting new guest. This one, I believe would make a great addition. She's unique, unlike all these other humans. She even came with a cat. I have just the idea for her. This girl is walking on a very thin thread and I'm holding the needle." She concluded before turning back to Trixy. The girl was crazy but somewhat obedient, if not easy to manipulate, always jumping quite literally at any idea given to her. "She's going to the face paint booth. I just wonder what she'll choose." Samantha chuckled already having decided the young girl's fate.

"This way Trixy dear." Samantha beckoned walking in a different direction. A shortcut if you will. Before bumping into Dominique as they cut through the Kitchen. "Looks good Dominique." The red-haired girl commented on the toast she was making. "Oh Trixy, while we're here, Dominique was right you really should eat." Samantha was spying on Trixy the entire time. Possibly out of obsession or possibly out of caution for everyone else, Ahra's children were quite fond of the doll and helped her out around the Carnival often. "We're in no rush, even and undead needs some energy. Especially with as much as you burn. Remember the time your stomach nearly cannibalized itself?" That was an odd night even for her. Trixy was so active the clown was radiating heat and nearly burned her clothes off and her stomach was cooking. It was quite bizarre, especially since undead are unusually cold. The longer you stay here the more insane things become, going along with it is often your only choice or you will lose yourself. Samantha found herself and apple and took tiny bites, not wanting to stress her fresh stitching.

Looking around again Samantha saw the situation. Dominique was trying to be annoyed and making toast, whilst Kjell, Elle, and Hela were sitting at one of the tables just outside the Kitchen and there were pasta ingredients sitting around the counters and smiled. "I'm here so I may as well take care of it." Samantha said to herself turning the stove back on and getting to work cooking the Pasta, setting her apple to the side.

Lily

Lilith616 Lilith616 koala koala

Lily walked around the face painting booth inspecting it. No one was attending it but there was a painting there that someone had been working on earlier. It was a wonderful piece and Lily couldn’t wrap her mind around why someone with that talent would just want to paint faces at a carnival. She knew everyone had to make money but that much talent almost seemed wasted to her, unless it was a side gig maybe.

“This place seems so strange what do you think of it Whiskers?” She looked down at the little cat. Whiskers rubbed against her leg before freezing and sticking her ears up staring off into the distance. Lily looked in the direction whiskers was looking confused as to what she might be looking at. Whiskers rushed off and Lily chased behind her. It felt odd just following her cat around the place but she felt like somehow Whiskers understood this place better than she did. Eventually she caught up with whiskers who was now simply sitting in front of a woman dancing she was staring at her as if entranced by the dance or maybe just trying to make her presence known as if trying to demand the woman’s attention. The woman was beautiful almost too beautiful to be human apparently there was no short supply of nonhuman looking employees around here. Lily pulled herself out of her lost thoughts and back to reality as she approached the woman scooping whiskers up in her arms before taking one of the cards the woman was handing out.

“Sorry about Whiskers.” Lily said as she studied the ancient looking card for a minute before looking back at the fortune teller. “I think she’s just excited to get her fortune told! I’ve never had it done before I’d be happy to have you tell me mine if you don’t mind.” Whiskers purred in her arms as she stared at the woman her tail swishing, she seemed to be excited and happy to meet the woman but also cautious as her eyes were wide and focus on her every movements.
