Rutherford University has been a top notch university ever since its establishment in 1889. With an acceptance rate of 5.9%, it remains one of the most selective universities in the country. Only the brightest, the most unique, the most creativeโthe cream of the crop, can attend. Students are met with awestruck gazes bordering on reverence when they announce that they attend Rutherford, those that they are talking to wishing that they, too, attended.
While Rutherford is home to top notch academics and students, it is also home to hundreds of clubs and societies. These range from cooking club and book club to nursing and honors societies. However, one society stands out above the rest:
Sextus Sensu.
Latin for; the Sixth Sense. But, thereโs just one problem: no one knows if it actually exists. Rumor has it that Sextus Sensu has been at Rutherford University ever since its founding and is an invitation only society. Yet, no one has heard any hint of a meeting, has known a member or seen any indication of existence. This doesnโt stop people from believing or dreaming of joining.
But it does exist. Sextus Sensu does existโ itโs just that no one knows who is in it, where the meetings are, who the members are. The members are forbidden to talk about the society outside of meetings and gatherings, and so far, the society and its members has remained a secret for over 100 years.
Sooner than they anticipate, the secret might be coming to a close. This past year, Sextus Sensu members have been disappearing. Poof. Gone. Vanishing without a trace. No one can figure out why, how, or where they are disappearing to. After the most recent disappearance, the faculty head, Professor Lovell, a beloved philosophy professor, took it upon himself to investigate.
Then he, too, disappeared. And now they were down to six. Fearing that they could be next, the remaining members decide to take it upon themselves to piece together what happened and where their members might have gone. But they have to be careful not to make what they are doing obvious, or it could mean the downfall of them all.

the arcanum

The arcanum is the oldest of the group, and therefore, is viewed somewhat as the student leader. However, he is a complete mystery to everyone. Appears out of thin air, there one moment and gone the nextโhe never lingers in one place. Nor does he say very much, only offering up a response when necessary. Yet, despite all of this, the rest of the group still views him as their leader.

The magi is the son of a previous Sextus Sensu member, so it was a no-brainer that he would be invited to join. Most assumed that being the son of a member is the only reason he got in, however, that is not the case. The magi is the type of person that seems to hold a magical air around him. A magical aura that naturally draws people in, hypnotizes and enchants them into doing his bidding.
the scurra

The scurra is exactly as the name means, the joker. Sheโs the clown of the group, always telling jokes and stories, always making everyone laugh. When things are getting dark and serious, count on her to lighten the mood. Funny, warmhearted and kind, sheโs the heart and soul of the group. Everyone wants her as a friend.
the ferox

The ferox is the enigma of the six. An enigma in that no one knows why they were invited to join the society. The wild childโthe one who attends a party nearly every day of the week, the one who seems to hold no regard for personal safety, the one who makes no effort in school yet gets good grades anyway. The debate on why the ferox was invited has lasted for over a year, but until the ferox comes forward with the actual reason, no one will know.
the medium

The medium is the problem solver of the group. Whenever a problem exists in the society, count on them to be the one to solve it. If there are issues between members, they're right there, helping them out. A true mediator, the medium will never be in the thick of things or taking sides, preferring to step back and listen to both sides of the story. Sextus Sensu has found themselves in a tricky situation? The medium will be the one to get them out.
the animo

The animo is the brains of the society. Despite every member being intelligent (you have to be to get into the university in the first place), the animo is by far the smartest, a cut above the rest. Though they donโt posture, it is visible in the way they speak, the way they carry themselves. Every member relies on them for homework help, which the animo is always willing to give. If a problem does occur, they will be right by the mediumโs side, helping solve it.

This plot is loosely based off of the book "Ninth House" and the Netflix shows "Outer Banks" and "The Order" (minus all of the monsters, magic, etc.), though Iโve added my own twists and turns to it. Big shoutout to @neon reverie for being my editor and coming up with brilliant ideas.
2.
The first three roles are gender locked and the latter three arenโt. Feel free to apply for those roles using whichever gender you feel like! Though please try to keep it even. When applications close, I will pick the applications best suited to the role and overall plot. LGBTQ+ friendly, all identities and sexualities accepted.
3.
Not first-come, first served! This will be application based and I will pick the characters that best fit the role and overall plot.
4.
Since Sextus Sensu members must be third year or above in university, characters will be between the ages of 20-23.

Realistic face-claims only please!

This shouldnโt be an issue since the characters themselves will be 20+, but please donโt use minors as face-claims! Meaning, you shouldnโt be using any face-claim who is 17 or under. I will ask you to change it if you do. If youโre unsure of the FCโs age, ask me for help or search it.
7.
Discord will be required for OOC chat and relationship planning between accepted applicants.
