Freak Sheet
Welcome to the fantastical world of Oceanet! About eighty five percent of the planet is covered in ocean and the rest is filled with many different islands to explore- some civilised some, well, the opposite of that. Pirates are common in this world and they are exactly how you'd imagine them: thieving liars talented with sailing and sword fighting as well as greedy for treasure that'll give them status, wealth and power. But, despite their lack of rarity, they aren't very well liked among those who have traditional jobs and maintain the economy of the world through global trade. This is something that pirates often interrupt for their own wants and needs. Pirates often don't even get along well with each other if they're not in the same crew, many rival pirate crews often engage in conflicts- be it on land or sea for any and every reason.

Among these plentiful crews is a rather small crew that has outlived its glory days. This crew is the Dreadeus Crew. Once lead by Martin Dreadeus, the Dreadeus crew were some of the nastiest pirates you could come across, they were merciless and were said to be unbelievably skilled fighters. No wonder they were once amongst the most feared crews in Oceanet. That is they were until the current captain, Antonio Dreadeus the son of Martin Dreadeus, took control- his lack of an assertive nature led to the crew shrinking in size as less members of the Dreadeus Crew wanted to call him captain, this decreased the crew’s strength.

The lack of the power they once possessed invited rival crews, particularly the Pink Rose, to attack the Dreadeus Crew and kill off those who remained loyal as well as steal supplies and riches from them. The Pink Rose essentially stole all of what the Dreadeus Crew had and surpassed the Dreadeus Crew's status, power and wealth. Antonio was desperate at this point, his family's crew had sunk to the bottom of the food chain because of him- if he could not pull off something amazing to raise his crew up to the top once again then they would very quickly be destroyed and forgotten.

For a few years, this hope was nothing more than that- a hope. Until alas, the exploration of an insignificantly small and uncharted island in the middle of nowhere lead to a discovery that could save the Dreadeus Crew. For in a cave on this island Antonio discovered a being thought to be only of legend: a Djinni.

These beings were powerful and talented in the art of elemental manipulation- a practice that was recently becoming more common amongst more powerful pirates, although none of them could ever hope to match a Djinni in magical might. However, a Dijinni's power was limited to how much wealth it possessed, and this particular Djinni was far from wealthy- in fact her lack of wealth had rendered her unable to even float let alone manipulate elements. This lack of a basic Djinni ability left her stranded on this island. Though luckily for her, Djinni had the ability to sense treasures from far distances- tales told that pirate crews of the past used Djinni to find treasure, this lead to many conflicts over Djinni where many of the magical beings lost their lives. This was why there were very few left alive on Oceanet and many believed them to be extinct or nothing more than beings of legend.

Both the Djinni on the island, named Scarlet, and Antonio had a common goal: gain wealth- and a deal to help each other do so was struck. From that day forth the Dreadeus Crew had gained a new member who would hopefully spring them back to the top of the ranks of all the crews in Oceanet! That fateful meeting between Scarlet and Antonio was about two weeks ago and the Dreadeus Crew have been doing better recently, finding small treasures with Scarlet's help. Soon, reliable survivability of the Dreadeus Crew had been ensured thanks to Scarlet. In return for her help, Antonio promised they'd help her find something she'd told them that she's always wanted: The legendary Djinni treasure.

And as a member of the Dreadeus Crew, whatever your motivation be, finding it is your, and the rest of the crew's, quest!

The Pink Rose- Crew

The Pink Rose is a powerful crew that has rivaled The Dreadeus Crew ever since their glory days. Formerly lead by Nina Blossom, a ruthless and sadistic human who took everything from everyone she could get her greedy hands on. After her disappearance, the current Captain, Stephanie Blossom, Nina's younger sister stepped in. Or rather stepped on the Dreadeus Crew, their changes in Captains happened at the same time and Stephanie was all too eager to test Antonio. She was the major reason the Dreadeus Crew took such a hit, she killed off newer members and constantly stole from them, even resorting to waiting around wherever she saw their ship to ambush them later.

Stephanie herself is less intimidating than her sister was, being around 5'10" as opposed to her 6'2" older sister, Stephanie wears boots with 2 inch heels at least all the time to compensate. Despite her age, 21, Stephanie is very childish and acts like a spoilt brat when things don't go her way. Tantrums, crying and all. Her temper should be noted, compared to her cool, calm and collected sister, Stephanie is an inch long fuse lit by the sun. Many things can cause her to lose it.

Stephanie

Though don't let her childish nature fool you, she's almost as ruthless and brutal as her sister and rules over the crew uncontested for her position. They fear her just as much as other crews do. She's apparently an even better swordfighter than her sister too, the two of them used to go by the name "Twin Rose Blades" before Nina disappeared. Her talents, riches and power have created a cocky and unsympathetic monster who is aiming for the top just as Antonio is, though she is much closer than he is and doesn't even see the Dreadeus Crew as an equal to the dirt under her boot, her many attacks on them can be seen as harassment towards old rivals and bullying to build up her reputation as she always leaves a few alive, despite the rumors that they have acquired a Djinni floating around. She doesn't believe it and Antonio has kept Scarlet hidden from her.

The crew itself is much larger than the current Dreadeus crew and a mix of humans and creatures Stephanie refers to as "Goonlins". They resemble nothing else found in the world and no one wants to argue with her about it, so any researchers brave enough to ask about them have gone with that as their official name. The crew, even the Goonlins for some reason, is loyal to Stephanie and many admins have been put into place by Stephanie to carry out smaller tasks and keep control when Stephanie is busy.

Each of their ships is adorned with a Goonlin skull and peacock feathers like in the Captain Hat, sight of a ship with their sigil will mean trouble...

Goonlin (Taxonomic name: ”Goonlin whatever”) - Race

2d42ee79-26b1-4280-9e13-763aabde7f59-jpeg.471814

The Goonlins are voracious, carnivorous, aggressive humanoid creatures that all have a similar appearance and resemble a cross between bears and lions somewhat. They are all short, averaging a mere 4’, though their size and sometimes cute appearance is misleading. Goonlins are strong for their size, on average they can overpower fully grown men, their teeth and claws can damage solid rock and their resistance to blunt force is nothing to be scoffed at. Goonlins are also extremely quick on their feet, agile in combat and tend to swarm in large numbers. They also have a strong sense of smell and are easily tempted by food. More elite Goonlins are classified by their silver hair.

Goonlins are yet to be found in large numbers in the wild, exclusively appearing under the Pink Rose’s control or in smaller numbers on different islands, each with a silver haired chief, overrun by the Pink Rose. Seemingly they are placed there by the crew for either scouting or convenience for the crew to pick them up on an island should they need them. Despite their wild and aggressive nature towards everyone else, they are all obedient towards the Captain of the Pink Rose and often act as the overwhelming muscle for the crew when needed.

Unsurprisingly the Goonlins are not extremely bright, though they seem to understand human speech they are unable to communicate back and simply growl or squeal. Despite their lack of intelligence, Goonlins are surprisingly emotional creatures and require a place within a social group to function and avoid the depressed state they enter when left alone for long periods of time. Goonlins have issues dealing with ranged attacks since they have none of their own and their short size comes with both a lack of reach as well limited mobility despite their speed. Despite their high agility and power, a single Goonlin is not dangerous to an experienced person in combat. A Goonlin’s attacks are simple and not thought out, they are only animals afterall. More advanced Goonlins can use basic weapons unskilfully. They’re strength in numbers personified!...as a weird lion bear thingy...

Merfolk (Mermen/Mermaids) - Arcano-Sapiens Abrahamus - RACE

Merfolk are mysterious, ocean-dwelling creatures. While they are similar in appearance to humans, from their average height, body weight, and skin tone variation, to their general proportions and physical characteristics. There are, however, a few noteworthy differences. To get really basic, they are as follows; Humans = air. Merfolk=water. That probably deserves more explanation. Averaging between 5 and 7 feet tall, they tend to be long and lithe due to how poorly ice cream and chocolate fare under the waves. Their skin tones, while tending toward paler shades, can vary as much as humans', while their hair and eye colour vary widely from white and pure black, to rich coral and azure hues. Merfolk, male and female, have arrangements of scales dappled over their skin, the colour, shape, and pattern of which give hints as to their ocean of origin. Webbed fingers and toes end in bony, sharp fingernails, and extremities are often covered in somewhat thicker scales for protection. Their eyes are covered with nictating membranes to allow for perfect sight underwater, and they have both lungs and discreet gills to function in and out of the water ... though they obviously prefer the water.

Merfolk are born under the waves for the most part, living in large commune-cities underwater. Men and maids both, however, may also transform a human from the surface through a marriage ritual, and are encouraged to do so to draw wealth and influence into the community. This can be a big adjustment, since Merfolk culture is a little odd. The first thing outsiders tend to notice is the absence of clothing. Barring jewellery, Merfolk don't tend to wear anything because it creates drag while they swim. There are, of course, ceremonial and royal regalia, but it's only really for parties, weddings, and funerals. They believe in a diety called Oceanicalladria, a giant clam of undefined gender said to hold the world on its tongue, for which there is a network of shrines and temples throughout the open ocean, and the various merfolk communities. There are also merfolk holidays, but they're just for merfolk. Get your own.

Powerful magic users, masters of the ocean depths, Merfolk are not the most technologically advanced society (Again, YOU try to get things to work UNDER WATER), but it doesn't hamper their use of magical technology. Their culture is one that embraces art and freedom, environmental stewardship and community. Uh ... what else ... oh, they don't MEAN to sink ships. Uh, combat with them is relatively unheard of among peaceful races, and in combat they tend to make use of the fact that they can breathe underwater ... it's a hell of a home-field advantage. There are tribes that are more violent than others, but even the most violent tribe is only so toward invaders. Stay out of the depths, and you probably won't even know they exist ... well, unless you run into Nix.

Rockpeak Island- Island
562ADCDB-8F7E-49D8-8B1C-60BD1992732C.png

An uncivilized island where monsters who can adapt to the rocky highland with foresty patches geography reign supreme. This island is well known for its danger, pirates and resesrchers alike are wary of Rockpeak. As a result it is largely unexplored and details of indigenous wildlife is limited to "some kind of birds".

Anyone daring enough to start exploring the island have to deal with a high rocky climb up the edges of the island to even reach its supposedly dangerous terrain. Obviously the most notable part of the island is the highest peak in the centre of the island. What is up there other than a few skeletons is unknown. Climbing the peak is almost impossible, flying up there is one of the only options.

Because it is so unexplored it is theoretically home to undiscovered treasure, but as with most things about this island, it is unknown.

Nobleport- Island
9F8D8714-FE5C-4D96-A31B-5D502A647561.jpeg

Nobleport is one of the largest known islands on the planet of Oceanet. It is also home to the single largest city in the world, Cathedown. Cathedown is home to a large amount of recidencies and a large market where merchants come and trade goods with those who live there. Housing is expensive in Nobleport, and so is everything else, so the people who live there are often well off. That makes Nobleport a target for Pirates, though due to the island’s geography, ships can only get in one way without damaging the island. Because of that and the tight security, outright and full scale attacks on the island by crews are almost unheard of and have been so for a long time. Most pirates only steal smaller things on foot via more stealthy methods like pickpocketing and only the powerful/brave/stupid ones would really consider drawing attention to themselves in a heavily guarded area like Nobleport.

Pirates are heavily disliked by residents of Nobleport, and in a world where they are common, Nobleport is seen as a safe haven from them. As a result any pirate will be driven off by the numerous guards on the island upon discovery, or killed upon resistance.

Rogueshore- Island
202D227C-8FD5-4767-8C88-AC7A69DBB1AC.jpeg

Rogueshore, also called the Pirate’s hideaway, is a small and rundown island. It has few inhabitants and mostly serves as a tavern for pirates who need a place to gear up, look for recruits or pick a fight with another crew or whatever they want really. They’re pirates after all and the island itself is about as lawless as it gets. The island’s small size means the wooden tavern created from the wood of an abandoned ship and the small forest where it is located is really all there is on the island. Fortunately that limits the wildlife from getting too big as there isn’t enough food on the island to support such growth.

The tavern keeper is actually a high member of society from Noblecourt looking to make some fast change off of desperate pirates. He is known to spread rumours and tidbits of information about other crews, pirates or islands in exchange for some coins.

Fatalons (Taxonomic name: Sarcoramphus Fatalus) - Race

2ca0d3de32c4ff4b3c24bf4afa646882917af19e_hq.jpg

Extremely large birds of prey, standing at around five feet tall on average. They boast impressive strength for their size, able to easily lift their own weight into the air and fly with it grasped in their feet. Each foot has notably sharp talons, they play a role in their main method of killing. Fatalons excel in flapping their wings just above their prey and coming in to deliver a quick swipe with their talons, delivering many swipes to eventually wear down an opponent.

Fatalons are common throughout Oceanet's many islands, often asserting themselves as high level predators or scavengers in any ecosystem. They are known to attack people in groups between 3 and 10 birds at once. The large size of their wings often mean the frequent flapping they do to stay airborne is loud and easy to identify, they also have a very distinct cry which is supposedly used to alert other nearby Fatalons of targets to attack. Though that is unconfirmed. Despite their ferocity in numbers, Fatalons are cowardly on their own.

Dogorror (Taxonomic name: Canis Ogreus)- Race

4917082C-630B-40DF-AD32-3D6C8656A201.png

An apex predator with little to fear, the Dogorror is a beast of another kind. It stands at 5 foot tall and is 12 feet long, not the largest of terrestrial beasts but that isn't what makes it so formidable. It's claws are sharp enough to put Fatalons to shame, steel isn't strong enough to resist being cut through by its thick claws moved by powerful arms. Put a ravenous appetite, speed and agility that surpass any other flightless beast and an attitude that is beyond aggressive on there too and you have yourself a species which isn't the easiest to research. It is best avoided at all costs.
