Years had passed since Naraku's defeat by Inuyasha and his friends. The miko, Kagome had decided the Feudal Era was where she belonged and even Sango and Miroku had started a family.

Rin, having been commanded by Lord Sesshomaru to stay in Kaede's village, had long awaited the day she would be considered a woman, old enough to make the choice to stay with Kaede and the others or return to her travels alongside the demon dog.

For weeks, Rin laid awake at night, a bit angry and afraid of the possibility that Sesshomaru would never return for her.

Her only comfort was the sound of the villagers hustling and bustling about to prepare for Sesshomaru's imminent return.

At last! Springtime would arrive and Rin would see her old friend again!

One particular morning, on the first day of the new season, the old priestess Kaede entered the home of the hanyo and miko.

"Rin, are ye awake yet? Tis sunrise, child! We must go to th-" Kaede stopped dead in her tracks, scanning the hut for any sign of the young woman. "Rin?" She groaned in frustration. "Kagome! Inuyasha! She's gone again!"

Eager to see her lord again, Rin was already awake and doing her chores. Fetching the water from the stream, gathering herbs, sewing together any clothing the villagers needed mending and didn't quite have time for.

Currently, she was bringing used clothing to the river for washing when she heard Kaede's shouting.

"I'm coming!" Rin called, as she tossed sopping wet fabric into a large bucket. Once back within village grounds, Rin knew she was in trouble.

"Rin, ye know ye cannot leave the village alone, child. Tis dangerous!" Kaede scolded the girl, who dropped the heavy bucket she was carrying with a sigh. "I know. I know. Can I go now?!"

With Naraku rising in power, it was too dangerous for Rin to stay by his side any longer. Sesshomaru had ordered the young girl to stay in Kaede’s village until his return.

Years have passed since Naraku’s defeat and Sesshomaru has made the long and dangerous journey back to the village. Exhausted by restless nights but knowing Rin is safe eased half of his worries.

Though Inuyasha had beaten Naraku once and for all there were doubts that the demon was dead, it nagged at Sesshomaru.

A villager who kept watch from a tower spotted the demon lord at the gate. “ Lord Sesshomaru has returned! Lord Sesshomaru has returned!” Everyone scrambled to open the gates and greet him.

As the villagers took Ah-Un away, he scanned the village for Rin expecting the now young woman to be overjoyed with his safe return. He could go for a hot bath and relax right about now but seeing Rin was more important.

"You can't go yet." Inuyasha had sort of taken on a fatherly role when it came to Rin. He couldn't help it. The girl did live in his home after all.

"Remember what we talked about last night?" Inuyasha asked, much to Rin's annoyance. "Yes. You said I should give my decision a lot of thought before making it. But I just spent six years thinking about it."

"Good. And you remember what his-" Inuyasha was cut off by Rin again.

"Yes, Lord Sesshomaru's mother said she wouldn't be bringing me back to life if I died again and Tenseiga is useless when it comes to restoring my life again." Rin had heard this almost every day for years now. "Can I go now?"

Kagome's hand gently intertwined with her husband's. "Make sure you stay close to Sesshomaru and be back before dark. We want your decision to be made in front of everyone."

Rin nodded. "Thanks! Bye!" It was as if she hadn't heard a word the couple just said. The bare footed girl dashed toward the village gate and disappeared.

Sesshomaru's right hand, Jaken the imp, stayed as close as he could to the demon lord. "Milord, do you really think it's safe to meet Rin in the village? W-With Lord...Inuyasha around?"

Rin pushed through the crowd until she could see the tall, handsome demon with white hair mere feet from her. "Lord Sesshomaru!" It had been so long since she'd seen him last. He did visit occasionally, but that wasn't enough to satisfy her.

Rin closed the distance between herself and the two demons and scooped Jaken up into a strong embrace. "I've missed you so much!"

Jaken began to squirm. "Ah! Rin! We've talked about this before! You're crushing me!"

Sesshomaru opened his mouth to speak, fortunately Rin showed up when she did otherwise his answer to Jaken’s question would’ve been a terse one. “ I had some affairs that needed my attention back at the castle. Fret not, I'll be here for a couple of days.” He knows Rin misses him with his visits far in between.

He handled a group of demons causing trouble at the borders of his land; they were simple creatures not even considered a threat at least to his level. It made no sense to have Rin worry about something petty such as creatures that are all bark. “ You had quite a busy morning yourself it seems.” He took note of the exhaustion on her face. Yet, Rin’s energy seemed to have created a soft soft for Sesshomaru.

Leaving Rin in Inuyasha’s care of all his connections wasn’t exactly an easy choice but it was for the best. He fixed his gaze hard at Inuyasha who approached the gates with his wife, his cold stare would’ve cut the souls of millions down but soon that ice turned into a resting face. “ I would make sure Rin never leaves my side and is safe inside the village before dark.” He would kill any fool who dares to harm a hair on Rin’s head anyway.

Rin frowned at the thought of Sesshomaru returning her to the village after all, but she didn't say anything to indicate her displeasure. She wasn't a child anymore, but a young lady. She needed to act like one especially if she wanted to prove she could handle the world outside the village.

"So you're staying in the area?" Kagome asked while hugging Inuyasha's arm to keep him from getting so worked up in his brother's presence.

"We can't tell you where we're going because we don't want you to follow us." Rin commented, her grip on the little green imp tightening quickly.

"R-Rin...can't...br-breathe!" Jaken wrestled away from the woman and tumbled backward in the process, rolling like a bowling ball into the crowd of people.

"Rin, this is serious." Kagome chastised. Rin simply shrugged. "Look, I'll be fine. Nothing's gonna happen." Sesshomaru had even said he'd be here for a couple of days. That eased her mind a great deal.

Noticing the stares they were getting from the small children of the village, Rin quickly took hold of Sesshomaru's hand. "I trust him. I wish you two could trust me enough to know I can handle a lot more than you think."

Kagome had an idea. "Then prove it." The miko whispered into her husband's ear and he disappeared among the crowd again, returning moments later with a withered bow and arrow set.

"If you can pin Inuyasha down, you can go. No questions asked." Kagome explained. Inuyasha's eyes snapped open. "Wait. What?! You're going to let her shoot me?! Have you seen her aim?!"

“ Yes I am staying nearby that should help ease your worries.” Sesshomaru wasn’t keen on breathing the same air as Inuyasha, almost wishing Rin’s aim would be off. It’s petty but he won’t get his hands dirty after all.

He stepped back, crossing his arms. “ Go on Rin.” This perhaps would be the moment that the young woman would prove herself in front her guardian’s eyes once and for all. It seemed like a rite of passage.

He had thoughts of taking Rin back to his castle and giving her a tour of his lands, maybe inviting her to stay however long she wanted. Sesshomaru thought of asking if that’s something she wanted to do. Although he knows the answer, it was something that was sitting on the back of his mind. However, he didn’t cross that threshold knowing she’s better off with Inuyasha.

"Wait a minute! Wait just a minute!" Inuyasha held up his hands for everyone to shut up. "Why should I be the target? Sesshomaru's the one with a breast plate!"

"Inuyasha, the arrows aren't blessed. They can't hurt you." Kagome assured, her hand on her husband's arm. "Please? Do it for me?"

Inuyasha rolled his eyes. "What about that nasty dragon of yours, Sesshomaru? Those arrows can't hurt him either."

"Inuyasha, I'm not shooting Ah-Un." Rin retorted, her patience wearing thin. "Will you just do it, please? I'll never ask you for anything ever again!" Now, Rin was practically jumping on the spot. "It's important to me." Rin stuck her lower lip out.

"Don't look at me like that, Rin." Inuyasha too folded his arms across his chest.

"Please?!" Now the human girl was hanging onto Inuyasha's arm.

"Stop acting like a baby." Inuyasha was growing impatient. "Kagome? Sesshomaru, get her to quit it!"

Sesshomaru knew he was pinned by Kikyo’s arrow upon the act of Inuyasha’s supposed betrayal. It sounds like a drama one he thinks of it as two lovers but a love story with betrayal sprinkled in it. “ Keep Ah-Un and me out of this.” He said coldly, taking to standing in the background acting as a spectator rather than volunteering.

It was a matter of Inuyasha giving in to Rin's request even though Sesshomaru had all week to give the young woman his undivided attention but his patience is limited. He stood there watching Inuyasha make a fool of himself.

He would suggest an alternative if Inuyasha chooses to be stubborn, unable to believe the spectacle that’s happening in front of him. Sesshomaru looked for anything viable; the only thing he could think of is an apple though that sounded cliche; it was better than hearing Inuyasha whining and carrying on.

Disappearing into the crowd he returned with an apple and stood there waiting. He had nothing else he could think of though this is important to Rin. He won’t lie, it was touching she would go to great lengths just to be by his side even if it’s for a couple of days.

"Oh, yeah. Give her a target that doesn't move. Hopefully any demon she comes across will stand still while she fires at them." Inuyasha snorted at Rin's intended target. "I didn't think you had a sense of humor, Sesshomaru."

"Stop it, Inuyasha. You're being rude." Kagome smiled at Rin. "Okay, if you can hit that apple from all the way back here, you can go." Kagome guided Rin by the shoulder a bit further back. "Everyone, stand back!" She barked, knowing she was ultimately responsible for any injury sustained if Rin misfired and struck someone.

Rin waited for everyone to get out of the way before she even thought of nocking her arrow.

But what if she accidentally struck Sesshomaru?! The very thought sent ice cold chills down the girl's spine. No. He'll get out of the way. I know he will. Rin raised her weapon, pulled the bowstring to her cheek, and exhaled deeply, trying to relax before shooting. Here we go!

Rin released her grip on the bowstring and sent the arrow rocketing forward toward the apple! Rin waited with baited breath, praying she'd strike her target and not the demon holding her target!

Mere seconds later, Rin heard the sharp noise of an apple being pierced, then pinned to a tree behind the demon lord. VICTORY! Rin, whose knees had been a bit wobbly all morning, finally sank to them, almost in tears from how happy she was in that moment!

“ It was either the apple or hearing your incessant whining. I chose the former.” He retorted, glancing at Rin who was prepared to aim and shoot the apple. He had confidence she’ll do well.

Rin shot the arrow in a single strike, which was pretty impressive. He nodded his head though there was a bit of approval in those golden eyes.

He started making his way to Ah-Un seeing no point in staying longer than necessary, making plans on setting up camp nearby. He is still intending on broaching Rin with the idea of visiting his palace for a month if she wishes. He saw no harm in letting her stay longer.

Rin’s company is always welcome in his home or to come and go as she pleases though preferably with him escorting her to and fro. Although Naraku is gone the borders between his lands are still unsafe.

He returned with his dragon, looking ready to go off and make camp. “ I do believe Rin proved herself capable.” He looked from the young woman than to her guardians, frowning.

"And I think you're full of shit." Inuyasha murmured under his breath.

"Sit!" Kagome commanded, observing the Beads of Subjugation around Inuyasha's neck force him face first into the soil at his feet.

"Whatcha do that for, Kagome?! Inuyasha asked after spitting the excrement from his mouth.

Kagome hugged Rin goodbye and sent her to greet the two headed dragon. "Why can't you two get along? You've fought side by side before. You two do actually care about each other whether you're willing to admit it or not."

Inuyasha remained silent as he stood up and dusted himself off, though his golden eyes did roll.

Rin skipped right up to the beast and grabbed one of its heads in her fragile arms, squeaking with joy at the reunion! "Ah-Un! Let's go! I'm ready to get out of here for a bit." The head Rin wasn't hugging nudged Rin in her side. "No." Rin gently pushed it away. "No. I don't have anything this time!"

Jaken scrambled up to his master. "Milord, help!" The imp hugged Sesshomaru's leg. "They're after me!"

Rin observed a pair of young twin girls push their way through the crowd. "Jaken! You promised!" One of them was waving a pink kimono with golden trim in the air. The perfect size for the imp!

Rin suppressed a giggle. "Aww, c'mon, Master Jaken. You said you'd watch them the last time you were here."

Sesshomaru ignored the scathing remark coming out of Inuyasha’s mouth; certainly it was amusing to see how those subjugation beads work. Inuyasha got his just desserts without Sesshomaru needing to silence him.

He doesn’t see him getting along with Inuyasha only if the situation calls for them to work together. Kagome couldn’t be any more wrong. He stood there silently and if looks could kill he would have buried the fool he calls his younger brother.

Narrowing his eyes at Jaken, quite frankly he didn’t want the little imp to tag along. Moving his leg from Jaken’s grip, he tightened the reins on Ah-Un. “ Let’s go Rin.” Jaken will be on his own for a couple of hours thinking he will be fine for now. He didn’t want anyone there, not even her guardians.

It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in sight. He hopes it stays that way while he’s here. He guided Ah-Un to the gates.

Rin followed the demon dog on foot, running to catch up to him. "I knew you'd come back." The girl stated once the village was nowhere in sight. "I wasn't worried about it for a second."

Suddenly, she felt something scaly and thick wrap around her waist and lift her into the air, only to be seated in Ah Un's saddle. "I don't know. Everyone in the village thought I was crazy for how I reacted when I knew you were coming." Rin felt the dragon's tail relinquish her body the second she was safely on his back.

Finding it odd that Sesshomaru had left the imp behind, Rin bit her bottom lip, wanting to ask why but also not wanting to go back and have Jaken tag along. So she changed the subject. "I know you said you were on your own land, but what about your mother? Have you seen her recently?"

The memory of the beautiful woman haunted and intrigued Rin. When they had first met, Rin was a little girl. But now? What would happen if she ran into the demon lady now?

“ I was attending to my political affairs. I have no time for visits as of late.” It would take two days to get to his mother’s lands if there were no bumps on the road. It was nearly a month since he last saw her. He’s simply busy keeping his lands running smoothly.

Sesshomaru didn’t say anything else until camp was set up and Rin settled in for a little while at least. Then he turned to the young woman expressionless. “ Rin, would you love to come with me to my palace and stay there for at least a month? My mother has been asking about you. We can spend more time together that way if that’s what you want.” He doesn’t have much to do around the castle or his lands except small things that don’t require him to be away.

“ You don’t have to accept my offer, I'll understand and we can keep up with our normal arrangement.” He added but having Rin around will make his day brighter, some things things he never admitted to himself or her. Things better left unsaid.

( I’m enjoying this rp <3)

Rin, who had been thinking of their long journey ahead as well, knew she would need to find her own food. Not that it bothered her. She'd done it while traveling with Sesshomaru before, after all. Surely there were fruits and berries in the area. Perhaps a small stream to catch fish in. But how would she carry such items?

Kagome had given her tools! How could she have forgotten that already? The girl stood up and rushed to a nearby tree where she'd stored her weapon while Sesshomaru had been speaking. What? Lady Irasue had been asking about her?

"Your mother?" Rin threw the quiver over her shoulder. "But I thought she hated humans?" Why? Rin was a little scared to ask. "But if she's extending the invitation, I'm not going to decline."

Rin refused to accept only seeing her friend once a month! And if she had to brave the possibility of being kidnapped by a hellhound of the underworld again, she would!

"Please excuse me." Rin stated while nocking her first arrow onto the bow string. "I won't be gone long, but I'm hungry and it's gonna be a long two days before we get to your mother's home."

Rin took off into the forest without another word.

He didn’t know why his mother requested Rin now; he'll have to wait and see for himself. He’ll protect Rin if he has to. “ Alright, stay safe and be aware of your environment.” He got up and went to set up the campfire for the night. It will be a chilly night tonight though he never knew Rin cooks. He’s curious what she has planned for their first meal together.

Sesshomaru’s demonic senses were attuned to the environment around him, a gift that proved useful in many situations. He was keen tonight for Rin’s sake ready to take action if things go wrong. The sounds he heard were the calming chirps of crickets which would lull anyone off to sleep. He's no exception to the rule. He had little sleep for the past two days while traveling wishing to get to Rin as quickly as possible.

With her head held high, Rin followed the sound of running water. Perhaps this was the same stream the people of Kaede's village used! It was very possible. They hadn't travelled very far. Along the way to the water, Rin scanned the canopy above for either tree dwelling demons or edible fruit, praying she'd avoid the former but having her weapon ready just in case.

By the time Rin had reached the stream, half of her quiver was full of apples and peaches! Now, for the fun part! Rin focused a new arrow on the stream, but didn't use her bow. She simply jabbed at the water with it as if using a knife!

By the time she was done, she was probably carrying half of her weight on her back. "Oh yeah! This should be enough for at least two days." As Rin got to her feet again, she heard a familiar sound of snapping twigs. "Lord... Sesshomaru?" The girl whispered, noting that the cracking seemed to loud to have been caused by her companion. The footsteps were too heavy for his humanoid from and too light for his true form! "Is...that you? Ah-Un?"

Suddenly, a gray bear like creature with four pale yellow eyes burst through the trees and knocked Rin flat on her back! His horrid breath brushed her hair away from her face, his saliva coating her hair!

Rin slowly, carefully reached for the arrow she'd been using to stab the fish and forced it into the bear's throat just as it was going to deliver the fatal blow! "GET BACK!"

“ Rin?” He sprinted into the forest sensing the danger, his sense of smell and sight at an all time high. All sorts of scenarios played in his mind getting to Rin matters the most. He got to her in time for him to see the bear lording over her. It was not an ordinary bear by any means it radiated dark energy. “Your fight is with me.” He unsheathed his Tenseiga as the bear turned to Sesshomaru growling and snarling.

It swiped its claws in the air before lunging at the demon lord snapping and snarling. He moved fluidly making the fatal cut and turning to see it let out a low groan and collapsed onto the ground in a massive heap. Sheathing his Tenseiga, he walked over and checked Rin for injuries she seemed fine to him.

“ You did well.” He said, proud she handled herself well against that demon. She seemed like she was busy gathering peaches and apples for supper. They looked tasty in his opinion. He noticed she got some fish for dinner too. “ You need help cooking those fish?” He had no problem helping the young woman.

Rin was caught off guard with Sesshomaru volunteering to help her cook the fish. "Well, I do need help figuring out how we're going to light a fire without Jaken's staff." She admitted with a shrug.

The woman couldn't help but turn entirely crimson in the face when Sesshomaru praised her fighting skills. "Thank you. Sango taught me." She began to comb helplessly through her messy hair to get the bear slime out of it.

"And I had him right where I wanted him, by the way!" Rin watched as the bear disintegrated into nothing but skeletal remains. "Something tells me that if I hadn't screamed, he would have died by my hand!"

Sesshomaru will figure out how to make it work without Jaken’s staff. “ We’ll manage somehow.” He might as well work this out with the imp back at the village. He looked at the fish realizing he’s hungry himself. Though the lord planned to help Rin regardless. “ Let me help you, it's the least I could do for you.” Fish that’s grilled over an open flame sounds good.

“ You should continue your training though. I can arrange some lessons at the palace if you like.” Sesshomaru ran his fingers through her hair to get the slime out.

He looked at the bear who disintegrated into nothing but a skeleton. “ You did well. I think you have potential to be a good fighter and with proper training you may grow to be just as strong as Inuyasha and I.” He wasn’t blowing smoke or buttering her up for any reason; he does believe in her.

"Oh, I wouldn't say that." Rin felt disgusting. She was covered in bear sludge and was soaking wet from splashing around in the water to get enough fish for them both. "You've already done so much for me. Saving me again, for instance." Rin nodded toward the skeleton. "But I'm gonna figure out how to save you the trouble from now on!"

How was she supposed to focus on cooking when she smelled like rotting meat? "Why don't I stay here for a few minutes and clean all of this off of me while you figure out how to start a fire for us? I'm going to need it to dry off anyway.

Rin couldn't see herself meeting Irasue while looking and smelling of death. "And I'll think about your offer. There are a lot of things to go over before we get back to your home."

“ Alright. Stay safe and don’t take long.” Sesshomaru made his way to the camp watching as Ah Un had helped themselves to a patch of grass chewing their first dinner. He grabbed two rocks, dragging them together, and striking them together to make a flint. It took several attempts then the logs swept in fire.

He stared at the fire as the wood made a whip-like snap from the flames. It was warm and inviting. It had him thinking about the things he could do at the palace if Rin accepted his offer to come home with him. He grabbed a stick off the ground prodding the embers two times. Meanwhile Ah Un was eating their dinner looking like they’re at peace for now.

Rin washed herself from head to toe in the stream, constantly stealing glimpses of the treeline to make sure she wasn't being watched. The water was cool and refreshing. Just what she needed after almost being eaten by a demon bear.

When she was done, the young woman wrung out her sleeves and skirt while making her way back to their camp. "Ya know, I distinctly remember the first thing you ever said to me was you don't eat human food." Rin stated once Sesshomaru came into view.

"I say this only because you're cooking the fish." The human sat as close as she could to the fire, her hands outstretched toward it. "And now this brings on a million questions that might make you send me back to Kagome and Inuyasha."

How would she survive in Irasue's home as the only human there? Rin couldn't recall Sesshomaru sleeping very often, so where would she sleep? Who would be teaching her to fight?! Were there certain mannerisms she was supposed to be accustomed to before she met the queen?!

Sesshomaru didn’t have an appetite for human food previously. He would get his fill from devouring demon flesh elsewhere or get his nutrients from Naraku’s demons. “ You won’t believe me, but I’m starting to have an appetite for human food.” His first time was cooking over an open fire while on the road recently. The charred fish tasted pretty good. It tasted almost better than the flavor of demon flesh. “ I don’t mind cooking.” He shrugged, he's good at cooking simple things over the fire.

“ What kind of questions?” He frowns, preparing the fish over the open flame, letting it absorb that smoky flavor. He was curious what’s on Rin’s now, staring at the fire the wood cracked and snapped.

"Well," Rin scooted closer to Sesshomaru. "What if your mother or her servants don't accept me?" Surely there was a sore spot in Irasue's heart for humans. After all, Toga had left her for Izayoi. And if Sesshomaru left them alone together, surely the queen would kill her without any effort at all! "She won't approve of having me around the palace. I know that. Even if she's invited me there, I don't think she means to allow me to stay." Rin leaned her head on Sesshomaru's shoulder. "Am I over thinking this? You said I could learn to fight, but what if she sets me up to be killed by one of her guards?!"
