Self-insert martial artists

One Thousand Club
Some settings I would like to join. However, in an attempt to both make a self-insert less cringe inducing to no one but myself but still deliver on a personal fantasy, I have made an effort to justify my particular passions and hobbies within the setting they are being placed. This has resulted in a list of characters from a variety of settings that share broad similarities but different details.

Name: Wei Yu Summerstep

Appearance:

wei_yu_by_huntressakari-d9amm9p.png

Nickname: "Wei"

Age: 33

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Straight

Species: Pandaren

Powers: Master level pandaren martial arts, adept ability in other Azeroth races fighting techniques. This gives him a unique and versatile fighting style.

Fandom: Warcraft

Personality: An ardent disciple of the Tushui philosophy, Wei Yu always thinks it is better to talk things out and that there is an absolute right and wrong. This manifests in a diplomatic approach to problem solving. Wei Yu always encourages belligerents to actually voice their concerns and try to work things out before coming to blows and that there must be a mutually beneficial solution if everyone is willing to work for it.

Wei Yu is also a descendant of Liu Lang by action as much as blood. He took to the Alliance cultures quickly and loves to learn about others.

Biography: Wei Yu Summerstep was raised along with his brother, Lu Kwei, on the Wandering Isle. The two of them were very different but their love for each other was never in question. However, Wei Yu being Tushui and Lu Kwei being Huojin, the two of them were separated when they joined the Alliance and Horde respectively. Both of them were completely unaware of the level of animosity between the factions that decreed their brother was now their enemy.

Wei Yu steered as clear and away from the building tension as he could, but he was swept up in the tides of war now and again despite his determination not to get involved. This was contrasting his newfound love and appreciation for the people he found himself among. In particular he was fascinated with the Church of the Holy Light and studied there often. He created a syncretic belief between his ancestral pandaren teachings and the Holy Light. Even with this newfound grace and wisdom, Wei Yu could feel the fatigues of conflict weighing upon his soul. When it wasn't the Horde it was the Defias Brotherhood, or Scourge breakaways, or the Twilight Hammer Cult, or even desperate ploys of the Shadow Council to summon their masters in the Burning Legion. This reached its zenith when Wei Yu was attacked in Desolace by none other than Lu Kwei, his brother. Wei Yu pleaded that they did not need to fight but Lu was relentless in his attack so Wei Yu had to defend himself. Luckily, Wei Yu received reinforcements and Lu Kwei was forced to flee.

Wei Yu's reluctant service earned him a few friends within the Alliance military, which helped bring him aboard the mission that would unwittingly bring him to his ancestral homeland of Pandaria. Once there, Wei Yu would blend in with the locals. They had no idea he was from the Wandering Isle or a member of an Alliance they didn't even know existed and Wei Yu did not make it a point to clarify this. For now, he had found a peace the likes of which he hadn't even realized he'd forgotten. The battles and troubles of the rest of Azeroth seemed so far away and trivial compared to the simple pleasures of food and craft, the deeply satisfying training at the Tian monastary, and the preparation of the completion of the Serpent's Heart.

When the Sha was released and the Alliance that he had supported was in part to blame, Wei Yu saved his comrades from danger, but effectively defected. He joined with the Shado-Pan shortly after. Wei Yu was indoctrinated into their way of thinking, rejecting the Alliance and anything beyond Pandaria. Fighting in the Townlong Steppes and the Dread Heart, Wei Yu found a sense of purpose but he was not at peace. He was defending Pandaria to be sure but not only were the Shado-Pan not to feel emotion, his attempts to include even other Pandarian races were shot down by his superiors. Eventually, Wei Yu realized that, as flawed as the Alliance is, it is where his heart truly lied and he returned to them.

His return was met in time with another reunion with Lu Kwei and Garrosh's defiling of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The two brothers fought alongside each other again in the Darkspear Rebellion. In the after math, Wei Yu returned with the Alliance but Lu Kwei's strength had been spent. Even with Garrosh dethroned and Pandaria partially colonized already, Lu Kwei could not return to his comrades and entered a self-imposed exile deep into Pandaria's interior. The two brothers said their last goodbyes to each other and Wei Yu Summerstep returned to his home . . . in Stormwind.

Other: N/A

Name: Straight Edge

Appearance:

Robot Mode: Straight Edge is a tad shorter than most of his size class, but he has a brawny, stocky build. His armor is evocative of a Roman Preatorian. (Elite Guard) and much later, a knight or samurai. Of note, Straight Edge is never seen without the scabbard that contains his weapon, either at his hip or on his back as the situation demands. (Color Scheme: Blue and silver.)

Vehicle Mode: Straight Edge's vehicle form is a Cybertronian armored combat truck, meant to hit hard and take damage. Post reformatting, his new vehicle mode is a heavy motorcycle with several ports for blades to extend from.

Nickname: N/A

Age: Young for a Cybertronian

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Straight

Species: Autobot

Powers:

Robot Mode: Straight Edge is a peerless sword fighter, able to match most foes in close combat. Though he prefers swordplay, he is also comfortable with spears, axes, hammers/clubs, or his bare fists. Through his meditation and unique training, Straight Edge can analyze an opponent's style and adapt tactics on the fly to counter them. (Such only applies to hand to hand combat, not generalized warfare.)

Vehicle Mode: Straight Edge has a retractable shield that can take high yield projectiles and makes an exceptional battering ram. Post reformatting, he has lost the shield in vehicle mode and traded defense for speed. In exchange though, he's also gained new offensive weapons when in vehicle mode.

Weapons/Tools/Equipment/Special Abilities/Powers:

-Thermo Energon sword

-Custom cyber-scabbard

-Retractable shield

Weapons/abilities description:

-Straight Edge's sword is suitable for cutting or thrusting and can transform into different types of swords so he can comfortably switch fighting styles in the middle of combat.

-The scabbard is far more than a simple holder. It can fire his weapon forward, giving him greater speed and strength on the draw as well as serving as a rudimentary projectile. The scabbard can also attract it's sword through a wavelength selective magnetism.

-Straight Edge is knowledgeable in Metallikato, Circuit-Su, and other martial arts.

Weakness:

-Straight Edge is a piss poor shot! Though his skill in close combat can't be doubted, this Autobot couldn't hit the broadside of a Dinobot if it was sitting on him!

-More subtly, Straight Edge is both gullible and emotionally vulnerable. It isn't difficult to fool or deceive Straight Edge. As he values honesty and sincerity, however he is feeling about a situation is usually plainly written on his faceplate. So he's not a very good liar even when discretion would be the better option.

Fandom: Transformers

Personality: Straight Edge is a gentlebot first and foremost; he greatly values honor, respect, and chivalry. Although he doesn't mind more casual or frank dialogue, he will not tolerate disrespecting ideals or champions of them.

((Encounter with humans: Straight Edge would introduce himself politely and by his full rank. Hoping to best represent the Cyber-Ninja Corps., the Autobots, and Cybertron.))

Straight Edge's primary motivation is the perfection of his swordsmanship. He does not seek renown, though he certainly wouldn't mind it, rather he recognizes a gift and wishes to excel in it. Seeing his prowess as a path to self-perfection. Though not a mystic himself, Straight Edge is a religious Autobot; often studying different Cybertronian faiths, deeply respecting those versed in the arcane (such as Yoketron or Alpha Trion), and holding the Primes in pietistic reverence.

((Encounter with humans: Straight Edge would joyfully exchange knowledge on human customs and traditions, seeing it as a way to expand his cultural and spiritual pool.))

Straight Edge is an honest bot, he strives for sincerity in all he does. However, this serves as a double edged sword. (No pun intended.) Although his friends enjoy a close relationship with a comrade who's willing to comfort them and give them his honest advice, they also may have some difficulty with his trouble of understanding any form of double speak.

((Encounter with humans: Without a doubt Straight Edge's area of trouble during first contact. Any humans who would speak in sarcasm or idiom, say . . . children, would quickly loose or even frustrate the Autobot.))

Biography:

Straight Edge hails from Iacon near the beginning of the war. He attended the Autobot Academy, where he studied Cybertronian history, art, and fencing. Dedicated and respectful of his commanding officers, he was a sure-in for the Elite Guard.

After graduating and being commissioned, he was tasked with guarding High Roller, a master in the Merchant Guild. The two got along famously, even sharing refreshments at MacAdam's Old Oil House. Straight Edge admired High Roller's honest business policies and the businessbot appreciated Straight Edge's loyalty and respect. He taught Straight Edge the value of chasing down dreams and personal aspirations, as long as they are within ethical practice. Though they kept things professional most of the time, it was clear the two had become close friends.

However, as the war intensified, Straight Edge found his job growing more difficult. There were simply too many dangerous areas and too many potential assailants to avoid. High Roller was controversially open about his business policies, trusting Bots on their character, not caste. He always spoke of suffrage and egalitarianism, to the point of earning much ire from his own guild members and other Autobots higher ups. Half the time, Straight Edge was there to make sure his friend wasn't harassed just as much as he was there to ensure his safety. One day, it all finally caught up to them.

Straight Edge and High Roller were cruising down a highway to Altithex. High Roller was going to secure a war bond deal with an anonymous party. Straight Edge called for High Roller to stop and wait while he checked the road ahead. Not but a mile down the stretch did Straight Edge come under attack by Decepticons. The swordsman slew them all, his first taste of true battle. At first he was relieved, calling High Roller on his comm to tell him the assassins had been dealt with. Straight Edge was met with static. It dawned on him that the Decepticons he had just fought were not meant to kill the Master Merchant, . . . . but to distract his bodyguard.

Rushing back with all the speed his wheels could give him, Straight Edge cursed his foolishness. By the time the Autobot swordsman returned, his friend and mentor was dead. High Roller did not go quietly to the All-Spark though, as Straight Edge found a fresh trail of energon and followed it. High Roller's murderer was nearby, leaking from a wound the Merchant managed to get off before falling himself. Straight Edge easily subdued the murderer and was about to drive his sword through the Decepticon's spark, but his mentor's words rang in his ear. He wouldn't want his friend to avenge him this way. So with a mighty cry and a broken spark, Straight Edge stabbed his blade into the ground. Straight Edge then slapped stasis cuffs on the decepticon and lead him away, to be sentenced by the Merchant Guild's justicars.

Though no one blamed "the Golden Bot" for High Roller's death, Straight Edge himself was consumed by guilt and uncertainty of purpose. Both in himself and the entire Autobot cause. Judged unfit for duty by command, Straight Edge wasted his days at the Old Oil House, ever mourning High Roller. It was there another Autobot named Springer found Straight Edge. Seeing such a promising sword fighter wasting his life away, Springer offered Straight Edge another path he could take. With nothing better to do, Straight Edge accepted and was then brought to the Cyber-Ninja Corps. Even though they were formally recognized as a military branch, the Corps. held many practices behind closed doors that would not be approved of by the High Council. Such as taking in and even training some low caste Autobots and even Decepticons.

Under the guidance of Master Yoketron, and new friend, Springer, Straight Edge progressed much further in his swordplay than he ever did at the academy. He remarked that the sword training he received before was "stiff" and "unintuitive." Yoketron remarked that much of the bastardized combat forms had been stripped of the Spark. It was akin to only training someone in half of what they needed to know. After cycles and cycles of study, Straight Edge grew to appreciate both the physical and mystical aspects of his art. Although he never could succeed Yoketron for his inability to use processor over matter, Straight Edge graduated as a recognized Cyber-Samurai.

As the war with the Decepticons raged on, Straight Edge shocked everyone by resigning from the Elite Guard and joining the Cyber-Ninja Corps. full time. Though his faith in Primus and even the Autobots had been renewed, he still refused to directly serve the regime his old friend struggled so hard against.

It would take a true Prime to win back his loyalty . . .

Name: Dorothea T'Veris

Appearance:
87e4eed844a1f6863e39105abc95fc94.jpg

.
Nickname: Dorothy

Age: 352

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Straight

Species: Asari

Powers: As a retired Huntress or Asari Commando, Dorothea is trained in special forces tactics but she truly excels in hand to hand combat. Among the already legendary fighters of the Asari huntresses, Dorothea is considered particularly skilled. Still, this is belied by her profession as a lawyer or "advocate" on the Citadel. She is schooled in multiple theories and systems of law and knows how to navigate the labyrinth when these systems clash in court. She also has a minor in theology and loves to study the belief systems of many species. She often has lengthy email correspondences with a brilliant Salarian scientist on the matter.

Fandom: Mass Effect

Personality: Dorothea tries to be just and fair in all she does. She believes in a form of moral absolutism, that there is good and there is evil, and that codes and laws are an imperfect but still viable attempt to achieve and live within good. This has come to trouble her at times since she has a natural sense of compassion that clashes with her worldview of uncompromising justice.

Biography: Dorothea was born on Omega shortly after Aria T'Loak started consolidating her position as the head of a criminal empire. Even though Aria's supporters claimed she "kept order" it was only in so much as the crime that did happen didn't rock the boat. Both her parents struggled, both to keep a roof over their heads but also to raise enough money for their daughter to have a better life than either of them did. After being assaulted one night by a batarian and barely fending off the attacker, both Dorothea's parents started teaching her self-defense. Her mother was a powerful biotic and her father was a turian veteran. Dorothea took to the training with enthusiasm. It became more than self-defense, it was a passion and something she could share with her parents.

Things changed when some other asari came around looking for recruits for a mercenary company. Both Dorothea's parents encouraged her to enlist because it would get her off Omega. After rolling with them for awhile, Dorothea abandoned with outfit on Thessia and enlisted in the Asari Commandos. From there she enrolled in the Presidium University of Law. Having grown up in a lawless place, she understood the importance of the law.

Others: She has contemplated joining the Justicars at some point.
