Trappings aren't really effects, it's more like a way to fluff up the power which is totally fine to do it, you wanted to. So yeah if you want to be from telekinesis, it's totally okay.
Sometime a trapping might come into play, giving a minor bonus like if you use fire trapping for example and the creature is weak to fire etc....
Mystics of course have divine trappings which have a more mechanical impact in the game compared to regular trappings.
