Saralyn of Lightwood

The Fairy Queen of the Light

Pale skin and very light, brown hair that reaches her shoulders. Saralyn's eyes are a curiously bright rose. The scales on her eyes and cheeks are part.

Vesti of Lightwood, Saralyn's mother, the former queen and a woman like no other - the people loved her unconditionally and saw her as their own beacon of hope in dark times. For Vesti was the one that fended off the King of Darkhold when he reached the castle after he had seemingly won the brutal war; coronation at 20, and her first major victory at the same age, only intensified by the peace treaty she had forced out of the King in the same year. The Woods of Light entered a new period of prosperity, of joy and happyness like no other. Saralyn looked up to her mother. She wanted to be the same fierce warrior, have the same strong personality, and yet she couldn't. The princess was too shy, too soft-spoken, too afraid to ever even touch a weapon. The people loved her still, and looked forward to a reign with her as Queen, but she couldn't imagine ever being as wonderful as Vesti was.

Only weeks after Saralyn's fifthteenth birthday, the unthinkable happened. Darkhold had broken it's promise and had built up troops im secret to storm Lightwood Castle - and so they did. The loss both sides suffered was inmeasureable. Thousand of soldiers in a grave of corpses - the Castle was ruined, families torn apart. The King of Darkhold lost his brother, but he hardly cared. The Queen of Lightwood and her husband were in his capture, withering away in the darkest halls of his castle.

Saralyn was crowned a month later. Her mother and father were presumed dead, and there was no other choice than to name her Queen. Her life flashed before her eyes - she got married, she had a child and tried desperately to repair a broken land as her husband defended the country from the frontlines. She was clueless of what her duty even was; they had set her out into the world without any preparation. After some dubious choices Saralyn had completely given up and instead left Lightwood in some select advisors hands, hoping they could fix her mistake and make a better ruler out of her son than she could ever.

And yet she still prays to a simple shrine every year, a painting of her mother surrounded by flowers, and believes that someday, Vesti will lend her the strength to lead.

Aubade

The longbow of Vesti, recovered from the battlefield. Saralyn almost never uses it, but knows how to shoot the bow.
