Sanya is known to be a patient if at times boastful man. He loves drink, food, song and a bit of attention from the fairer sex. The Kossar are renowned for the pride they take in upholding their oaths, and Sanya is prime example of that. Though he is the last of the Swords of Kossar, and the king he once served is no more, he is determined to bring his murderer to justice.
Sanya had a penchant for swordsmanship since his early childhood, so it was no surprise that he eventually became an excellent swordsman. He joined adventuring parties, guarded traveling caravans, even traveled all the way to the dwarven kingdom of Knalga where he spent years honing his existing skills and learning new ones. Upon his return home, he proceeded to serve as a champion for several Kossariat princes.
His hard work and acquired experience ultimately led to a surprise visit from Mikhail Serrano, one of the legendary Seven Swords of Kossar. As Mikhail was nearing the end of his long life and career, he was pressed to name a successor - and that successor was to be Sanya. Honored beyond words, Sanya accepted. The two left on a series of missions and trials together, and in the end Sanya earned himself the title of the next Seventh Sword of Kossar.
As the Seventh Sword, Sanya commanded the respect of the nation and had nearly as much authority as the Kossariat princes themselves, yet he answered only to the King and Queen of Asgard. For decades he kept the peace alongside his six new brothers, enforcing the king's law in the Kossariat League. Until the Great War happened.
Like everyone else, the Kossariat League on the whole joined the war effort, with its Seven Swords acting as generals. Being closest to the source of the demonic invasion, the dwarves and the Kossar took the brunt of it. They bought valuable time for the rest of the Royal Army to mobilize and set up defense lines, but the cost was high. Even higher for the Kossar when Knalga unexpectedly switched sides. Though the dwarves didn't technically fight their old allies, simply the fact that they withdrew and surrendered to the Sorceress meant the complete annihilation of the Kossar army. Sanya Sarkov was not just among the few survivors to return home; he was the last survivor of the Seven Swords as well.
Sanya supported the decision to burn down the cities of the League when it was made. He was one of the leaders of the Kossar exodus, seeing his people safely east into the wilderness beyond, where the enemy was both unable and uninterested to follow. Before long, news came of Alicante itself falling into enemy hands. It was officially over. The war had been lost.
But not for Sanya, and not for many others. The Seventh Sword vowed to fulfill his oath to the murdered king and his Kossar brothers by exacting revenge on the Sorceress, and that he would do. After ensuring that his people enjoyed relative safety and stability in their new home, Sanya left the wilds and journeyed west, seeking out the last pockets of loyalist forces with plans to organize them into a proper movement of resistance. He was glad to discover that one was already made.
That was how Sanya joined the Resistance, serving both as an advisor and a fighter despite his creeping old age. He may have been the last of the Seven Swords, but he was determined to outlive the enemy that had brought such ruin to his people. He would kill the Sorceress himself, and he would use the swords of his fallen brothers to do it.
