Just do the general history and add to it piece by piece overtime. You can edit posts whenever and it should free you up for other stuff.

How descriptive should the starter be?

For magical school Rps the standard is usually just saying how your character gets there. Whether there's an opening ceremony or if buses or transportation are used, that kinda stuff.

If you've got some grand plot planned or other important NPCs then a starter could be used to allude to them.

But just do whatever feels natural
