It's been years since the first outbreak took place in 2033. Ever since then, cities were left in ruins, overrun by one of the infected that have spread throughout the globe. Somewhere up north where the day is scorching hot and the night freezing cold, a small survivor camp was established by the remaining youngsters after the main camps were lost to the local armed raiders who wanted to take all the immunes hostage in order to create a cure in the most unethical way possible. Having to lay low, the camp is placed somewhere up on the deserted cliffs, always blending in with the sand.

The hierarchy is cut between three groups. The first being the most important of all, the teenagers that are immune to the virus, being the source to make possible antidotes, they are usually kept safe behind the camp walls, rarely venturing out alone due to the risks of losing them to the infected or the local rebels. They're usually prioritized over every group due to their immunity as their blood can help the group that is dependent on the daily antidote. They work as leaders of certain divisions or even those who go out and scavenge with the mutated.

The second group belongs to those who aren't immune and also haven't been touched by the infected. They usually get responsibilities that keep them inside the camp, be it cooking, gardening, or medics. Used to be able to get out of the camp but due to the rising numbers of infected swarming the area, they are no longer able to get out.

The third, The mutated, the majority of the camp's population are mutants or infected that either has yet turned or couldn't turn due to abnormalities in their bodies or due to the homemade antidotes that they have been given. They're considered far more expendable and are usually responsible for gathering both intel and resources outside the camp. New mutants are usually kept safe inside until the rest are sure that the new mutants won't turn due to the homemade antidotes only working for 60% of the whole population. Old mutants or those who have been infected even before they came into the camp are usually given the most responsibilities outside of camp as they could go out of the camp for more than a day and survive without much problem, they are the oldest in the camp, usually ranging from 17-24 years old while the youngest comes from the immune being at least 15 years old. They tend to be the supervisors for the immune due to their mutant abilities that give them an advantage over the infected (minor strengths). They can be Scouters, fighters, or field medics.

However, the local raiders stormed the camp that one night, taking hostage most immune and uninfected survivors, leaving only a handful of people left while the rest of the mutants had either gone MIA or killed in action. With two immunes, two uninfected, and three mutants, the rest were forced to survive with whatever's left from the incident while devising out a plan to rescue the survivors that were held captive by the local raiders.

well it depends, some might be able to go undetected in places where infected roam the most. Some might be able to use their blood to act as a repellent or to attract the infected ex. they have it on a vial and throw it either to a spot or a person. Some might be able to locate a living human from a mile away with their sense of smell and can tell if they're infected or just normal. some might heal faster when it comes to injuries and stuff. the list goes on, but they're all pretty minor abilities. Not like superpowers or anything.

So are all the mutations positive? And can't be seen from the outside?

no of course there are drawbacks to being a mutant, not only will some of them need the daily antidote, depending on their advantages, say like the blood repellent can be anemic which leads to them easily being fatigued, passing out rather easily, and if they're losing too much blood, the likelihood of surviving is decreased and so on so forth. but some might only have the drawbacks if that's what you're asking.

I didn't really think of an external indication since mostly they discover their drawbacks and advantages through the diagnostic received when they first got diagnosed as a mutant. Unless you're referring to how others can differentiate whether they're mutants or not, mostly not since the mutation is usually internal but some might have external changes that make it quite obvious like perhaps boils or rash on the skin, slight blindness ( their eyes would turn white at that point), purple fingers (poor blood circulation), and etc.
