Vitals

Age: 31

Race: Human

Affiliation: Union, Ex-military

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Theme Song:

Appearance: In the up-kept, civilized world Ryan stands out due to his unkempt appearance. Standing at 5'10, medium build, weighing approximately 189 pounds, Ryan tends to stand out in rooms due to his long brown hair and beard. Underneath the beard he has a square jaw, fine chin, and a relatively young complexion for his age.

Not known for a keen sense of fashion, Ryan normally wears a simple pilot jumpsuit with the sleeves rolled up, with a good pair of boots. Accompanying this he normally wears a utility vest of some sort on top of the jumpsuit, with a fine pair of sunglasses latched on.

Birthplace: Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Profession: Cargo Pilot, though skilled in other craft.

Psionics or Cybernetics: None

Equipment:

Revolver:
Reliable, simple, and powerful. Having been by his side for many years, Ryan never goes anywhere without his revolver. Using 357. Magnum rounds, this isn't the most powerful revolver on the market, yet it still packs a punch!

Invader Drive: Essentially a hacking device, this was once the smartphone model from about 3 years ago. Ryan won it in a game of poker, and rather than activating it he decided to modify it for his own personal means. Now it's been modified to act as a small computer solely, with capabilities to link up with many computer interfaces.

Character Skills/Flaws
Character Skills: (Advantageous Skills not related to your powers)

  • Major Skill 1: Piloting - Ryan is an extremely skilled pilot due to a combination of natural skill and experience. During his time as a military pilot, he became qualified in flying almost all class of aircraft as well as types, making him the renaissance man of piloting. There's almost no human ship he can't pilot, and no better pilot currently on the market for hire.
  • Minor Skill 1: Engineering - A must for any respectable pilot. Ryan has an advanced understanding of both ships and weapons, and is constantly tinkering and jury-rigging pieces of equipment in order to prolong their use. It's not uncommon for him to try and make the right tool for the job from scratch either.
  • Minor Skill 2: Weapon handling - During his time in the armed forces of the Union, Ryan was taught how to properly handle a weapon. While he is by no means as skilled as an advanced soldier, he can hold his own in a firefight should the time happen.
  • Minor Skill 3: Hacking - Ryan has an advanced understanding on how computer programs work, but more importantly he knows how to break into systems and make them do as he pleases. It's no uncommon for Ryan to hack into the systems of his vessels in order to 'reprogram' it to his needs.

Character Flaws: (Things your character is unskilled in, things that are ether their weaknesses or limitations.) You need to have 3 minimum flaws but you can have more if you want.

  • Disadvantage 1: Sucker for Women - Known for being a womanizer, while he may be stubborn and generally no-nonsense, his main weakness is to the opposite gender. Women tend to throw off his temporary goals and shift his focus. Around the opposite gender he is very venerable and prone to making poor, rash decisions.
  • Disadvantage 2: Purist - Ryan believes firmly in the values of being human, and is very much against cybernetics. He believes that man and machine should be separate entities, and that machine should serve man. This is why he firmly stands against individuals who become more machine then man. An augmentation here or there is fine, as in today's world everyone needs an arm replaced or needs a slight enhancement for a job. But once someone crosses the 50% mark for cybernetics, he becomes extremely prejudice.
  • Disadvantage 3: Addictive Personality - Ryan has the genetics and mental makeup of an addict. It is very easy for him to become addicted to things like medication, alcohol, and even gambling. This may also be part of the reason why he enjoys things like hacking, piloting, and even shooting as the adrenaline rush is addicting.
Personality
Fears: Ryan has an extreme fear of Psionic users, leading to extreme distrust of anyone with Psionic capabilities. Going along with this is an unsettling fear of the impending future, and what consequences could possibly come with it.

Ryan is also very xenophobic toward Alien races, and does not trust anything that is not entirely human.

Optimism vs. Pessimism:
Ryan tends to shift somewhere in between Optimisim and Pessimism, though more towards optimism. It's extremely uncommon for him to see the greater good in situations, but it's also extremely uncommon for him to see no-win situations.

Introvert vs. Extrovert: Ryan is definitely introverted. By no means is he a loner, or socially awkward, but he prefers the cold vacuum of space and the cramped interior of ships for a reason. He tends to enjoy smaller crowds filled with people that her personally knows and can trust compared to a vast ocean of strangers. Overall he keeps to himself as well.

Justice vs. Mercy: Ryan prefers justice over mercy. In his mind, people never change. There's no reason in showing mercy as it's insane to expect they'll act any different. Combat pilots usually have this attitude reinforced as well, as it's their job to press the button that can easily destroy countless lives.

Feelings on the Union: In his eyes, the Union is the only future. While at times they may be excessive or ineffective, Ryan believes in the cause and will support it.

Common Mannerisms: Ryan will often flaunt a slanted, cocky grin whenever he feels like he's accomplished something. It's just his way of patting himself in the back.
Ryan always keeps himself occupied in some way. If he's not piloting, sleeping, talking, eating, or drinking, then he's probably reading a book or playing computer chess.
No matter where he is, Ryan also tends to keep a relaxed posture. He leans back in all of his chairs, spreads his legs when sitting, and rests his arms on something if there are no controls to handle.
Ryan also speaks in a very common manner. He does not over-complicate things, nor does he speak like an idiot.
He also makes nicknames for everyone, whether they like it or not. Normal names just won't do for him...too personal.

Interests & Hobbies: Avid Chess Player- Ryan plays chess often and ass much as he can. It's not that uncommon for him to examine a situation in the form of a chess match either. He can usually be found playing the computer in his spare time.

Gearhead-
Ryan takes a deep interest in how things work mechanically. Just the general concept of tinkering is something he enjoys, and because of this he scraps most of his useless tech and will try to piece together something useful.

Gambler-
An avid gambler, Ryan also enjoys risking his own savings in order to make a quick buck just for the thrill of things.

Overall Personality: Ryan is best summed up as a no-nonsense type of person, who sticks to his guns and plays with his cards close to his chest. He doesn't care about things such as rank, wealth, or status. Instead he simply prefers to do what he enjoys, and what gets him by. Never was he ever one to fully commit himself himself into something that he has no business in. Once things go bad, which they tend to do due to his willingness to take risks, he doesn't stick around and face his problems. Instead he simply leaves, and moves onto brighter shores. Many people call him a drifter because of this, and he won't argue with it.

Commitment is also an issue for him. Ryan doesn't like to think of the future. When you commit to something, you often have to view yourself in the long term. He can't do that, and thus he constantly moves from job to job, relationship to relationship, relying only on his skill set as pilots are always in demand. Another major flaw is his extreme distrust of Psi users and people who are more Machine than man (Extreme cybernetics).

Ryan is also known for being very daring and risk-taking. He has a very confident attitude that sometimes comes out as cocky. For better or for worse, Ryan is willing to take chances that others wouldn't be able to.

History
History: Ryan Woods was born 31 years ago in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. He was born into a normal middle class family, in a normal middle class neighborhood. Everything in his life was normal. The only exception is that at the age of 9 his father walked out of him, simply claiming he was going to get a pack of cigarettes. They never heard or saw him again. Even to this day Ryan still doesn't know why his father did it, and it bothered him for years. With his father gone it was just his sister, mother, and himself. In spite of this they still never struggled financially as they were well off to begin with. On paper Ryan should have grown up to be a productive citizen. Should have

Ryan never did become a model citizen. In school his teachers constantly complained about his lack of commitment, and his employers always complained about a lack of motivation. When he graduated from high school he decided to attend the University of Omaha for a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. Afterall, he enjoyed working with computers and was very good with machinery, so why not put the both of them together? He was actually motivated for a while and making great progress until, to the surprise of many, he dropped that plan and settled for a two-year degree. Immediately he enlisted in the Union Military to become a pilot, and due to his natural athletic ability and skill as an engineer, he quickly found himself in the ranks of the military.

The military gave Ryan some motivation. Some. Many were impressed by his natural abilities to pilot and tinker, and he quickly moved up the ranks. He learned how to fly almost anything with wings and a heat shield. From cargo-ships to combat shuttles, Ryan or 'Woods' as he was commonly referred to could fly it. For a while he was the talk of command, showing exceptional prowess in what he did. His career highlighted when he was given the opportunity to become an experimental craft pilot, where he would test fly top-secret aircraft before they were released into the Union forces. All seemed to be going well, there were even talks of training him as a special ops pilot.

Once he got word of this however, things took a turn for the worse. His attitude changed sharply, and he 'resigned' (In reality was discharged) out of the military. For the next few years he simply worked as a free-lance pilot. Good pilots are hard to come by outside of the Union Military, and Ryan could make a lot of quick money fast just flying cargo in a fast, efficient manner. He did this for multiple companies, and was still very well known for being the pilot to go to. This is probably why he was recruited to work on the orbital platform, and where he currently resides.
