Buc Iron
Buc continued to calmly eat his chips as he was asked a question, giving himself time to mull it over in his mind. He was given even more time when the swiftly continued the conversation and another boy arrived. But that didn't mean he had forgotten the question, he was simply just slow to answer. "Depends on what you're worrying about, I suppose. No point in worrying about something you don't know will happen, because it might not happen. But then there are things you know will happen, and I'd say it's worth worrying about those. Get ready for it, I suppose."

Having said his piece, he looks at the giant that introduced himself. Well, perhaps not introduce himself, but inserted himself in the same way he was dragged into it. "That one," he said, pointing to Saphira, "was worrying about someone. And that one," this time pointing to Lapis, "says there's no point in worrying even though she doesn't know what the other is worrying about." Popping the last of the chips into his mouth, he nonchalantly crams the empty packet into his coat pocket before wiping his hands off on his legs. "I'm Buc, by the way. Spelled without the k."

Tanner swore profusely as he swung down to the ground, he knew he should have checked the cargo pallet better. With a slight twirl of his wrist, the grappling anchor let go of the railing far above. His free hand grabbed on to the rope that suspended the pallet, and his legs swung round and clamped on tight. He slid down just barely slow enough to avoid a friction burn and hit the ground running after the ball of cloth. Such a silly mistake to make. Just because he thought the pile was safe wedged between suitcases didn’t mean a thing. Why didn’t he double check the netting?

The trail the ball of cloth left made it easy to track at least. Nobody seemed to get hurt, good. It stopped just shy of the tiny slip of a girl he spotted earlier, with that tall boy next to him. Up close Tanner really got a good look at the guy built more like a mainmast than a human. Out of the ball, somehow, the practically shirtless man pulled a rabbit faunus.

“Aye, what. What? Yer not a stowaway, what arr ye doin in the cargo?” Tanner blurted out. He’d seen the girl pay and board.

“I didn’t load ye into the bloody cargo pallet by accident did I?” Tanner continued softly with a sinking feeling, a feeling that got quickly swallowed by excitement. Everyone here looked like they held a suitcase. That meant fresh arrivals.

That meant fellow first years!

“I do apologise fer that, was a bit distracted saying my goodbyes. Name’s Tanner, Tanner Mannerheim. How ye all doin? I just gotta go cast off me old home, then we can get to know each other? I mean, I take it yer all new students ‘ere right?”

CWVkxr3VAAACI3E.png Before the Faunus could reply to Lapis, someone else enters the circle. A tall, handsome raven-haired boy with honey-glazed eyes. His outward appearance could easily intimidate, but there is innocence coming off of him that she could easily relate. He asked what the problem was as if implying there was something to break up.

The question accommodates what Buc says next, informing the man about what's going on and following up with their opinion. They validated and at the same time agreed that to worry over something that has yet to happen should not be taken too seriously, but on the other hand, it's her business to feel however she wanted over the ordeal. Saph hangs her head low, biting her lower lip in attempts of not to cry. What she felt wasn't so small to her. It's something she's done for so long and can only be described as "separation anxiety" and "fear of being alone". Being a twin wasn't always great to Atomic, but for Saph it's a wonderful relationship. To be able to share the world with someone knowing that no matter what, there is someone willing to pick her up and assist without vocalizing any concern. To have that stripped away since birth is unsettling. It's like tossing a fawn into the deep end for them to learn, which is exactly what they've applied to. Still, the thought alone has barely scathed the girl into believing that soon, she will be on her own with no one at her side to understand.

"Ok, fine. Whatever." She mumbled. "You guys just don't understand because you probably don't have siblings or are even close to any to understand how terrible it feels to be stripped away of the one good thing you have." She huffed before raising her head and glaring at everyone with frustration and tears daring to fall. She wanted to run. She wanted to yell, but knew that it wouldn't make a difference and it would only cause trouble.

Just then, the P.A. intercom rings with a graceful tune to announce the newcomers to approach the entrance hall for a quick assembly.

The cute but strange girl who was hanging on the branch stated she was from a far off place and here to kill Grimm but didn't help clue him into the situation much. The faunus with horns who introduced himself as Buc explained things more clearly, but failed to mention whatever the source of the problem appeared to be. As Xander was about to speak up, the other attractive girl said they wouldn't understand before getting up in a huff to leave. He was about to object as he too had a sibling overseas he wished was here with him, but he knew he wouldn't live his whole life with his sibling at his side so he shouldn't get TOO attached. He was starting to understand the bigger picture, though he wasn't the greatest with academics he wasn't dumb, learning from books and lectures never sat well with him and he needed hands on training for things to stick. From everything the group said he deduced, she was having separation anxiety about her sibling as she was freaking out about not being on the same team with them. "I'm Xander by the way, nice to meet you Buc, and...?" He stated to the two remaining students as he moved towards the entrance exams seeing as the other girl already left.

The horned boy Buc really didn't help lapis understand with his answer that was more a you are both right and wrong type. Lapis had honestly expected for him to just agree with one of them and help her figure out what kind of view this place had, it was all to weird. The people here were just like children back home, the headmaster had talked about kids, but she had expected them to be the normal 5 or 6 year olds not adults that acted like children. Really they should all be getting married by now, or thinking about it, yet none seemed to mature enough for such a thing. The girl was the most unstable of them, her words were really odd did people not have large families did their siblings not die here? Well she knew that they didn't but that was on the levels of a fact not a truth it didn't really sink in. Lots of this place was fact not truth and while Lapis knew it she didn't truly register everything she knew as real. Before Lapis could say more the other girl ran off, it was likely for the best though as Lapis suspected telling her siblings died plenty and all you could do was remember them would help. These kids were free of the specter of death and did not have to watch friends and family being taken by the reaper, they were not hardened to it. They didn't know in the face of death you smiled and had a laugh.

" I am Lapis " She said before shrugging " Well she certainly was an odd kid. Well no point dwelling on someone who won't last long" Lapis sighed her tone a bit to cheery for implying somone would die soon, but that was what she did, that was the truth why get overly depressed about it? It was then the announcement registered, and exam that was a fight that really perked her up " Finally a fight think it will be a deathstalker, or an alpha beaowolf but that might be to easy. I know a Nuckelavee now there is a decent test" Lapis giggled not realizing those might be considered dangerous here and not used in tests. The idea that a test was more than killing things was not even present in her mind, and the headmaster would likely have set things up for Lapis who would need a lot of remedial classes in normal subjects.

He didn't know what to think of the girl as she practically stormed off. He had tried to been diplomatic about what he said, but that obviously hadn't worked. And now this other one, this Lapis, was calling her strange before going on to say how excited she was to fight a Grimm. Buc raised an eyebrow and looked at Xander as if to say 'Pot calling the kettle black' but didn't dare say anything. He hadn't been the smartest in his classes, nor was he a social butterfly, but he knew enough to keep his mouth shut and not poke the Ursa. And so he simply turned stood up, turned around, and picked up his things that had been, until this point, hidden behind him. He wasn't traveling light, either, there were many things that he had to carry. But he seemed to carry them with a practice ease, not even straining with the effort to carry two full duffel bags with one hand.

"I wouldn't be so sure we're actually going to be fighting Grimm," Buc said to Lapis. "They just said we're going to the entrance hall to be escorted to the training hall. I doubt they'd have any Grimm on campus. I think it's more likely they'll have us fighting each other. See who fights the best and put them with people that didn't fight as good, balance it out see? Maybe have them learn a thing or two from each other."

Lucoco

"Thank you, big guy. Sometimes my blanket can be a little bit clingy." Lucoco gave the big boy a thumb up with a literal flash of light coming out as if it was a scene from a comic. She spotted the girl with glasses curiously spread the blanket and was dumbfounded by its sheer size.

"An interesting one, isn't it? My grandma said it was used to be a tribal tent and then became a base sheet for some shamanic ritual before we use it as tarp and then it became my blanket." She enthusiastly explained. "It's far from practical but I got kinda attached to it. Oh, and don't worry about the dried red stain in the middle. It's ketchup, I swear."

Another boy came into the scene and Lucoco recognized him as one of the ship staff. The faunus' rabbit ears immediately jolted up when he mentioned something about stowaway. She thought he suspected her for the trick she did with the payment so she replied with some stutteting as her brain scrambled to search for something to change the topic, fortunately the announcement provided her with it.

"I-I'm a not suspicious person who use some tricks to get cheap things. Hmm. Yes. Definitely. D-don't worry about the cargo, I have seen something much worse. Ehehehehehe. Oh wow, the bell is ringing. Time to go. Let's go. The principal is waiting."

Asher looked over at the boy that had walked up to him greeting the funny little group that had now assembled the boy seemed like a sailor type by the way he spoke, apparently the girl in the ball of blankets was some sort of stowaway? or just wanted a cheap flight or they where accidentally put in the cargo hold. "hu weird way to travel but ok fair enough" Asher just commented. the rabbit faunus girl was all gitter tho babbling on and explaining the apparently history of the blanket that had trapped her Asher laughting a bit as he found the nature of thier babbling amusing. "well funny story then bu aah yeah good point we should get going" asher would say putting the rabbit girl down he'd then turn to the shy girl of nula. "welp maybe you should stick by me incase you get lost seemed we've got to the entrance hall wherever that is" he'd comment with a grin looking around and to the others before spotting a building that seemed.. entance hally starting to push his own luggage that way. "well come hope we arn't late"

Tanner just gave the bunny eared huntress a flat stare with his head titled slightly.

“Lass. It’s that I know ye paid me sister, but yer just oozin shady as it stans.” he commented. “Nice blanket by the by.”

Another swear followed the announcement of the headmaster courtesy of Tanner. He dashed off to his home, just as his sisters appeared on the railing.

“I’ll cast ye off, don worry about it!” he yelled up. It might be the last thing he did for them in a while. They flashed thumbs up at him.

“Aft first! We’ll asse up about a mast’s height then swing off starboard!” Leeslie yelled back.

“Aft first, aye!” Tanner yelled back and sprung into action. Sails unfurled with a whisper and in one particular case, with a bit of a struggle. Tanner nearly leapt up, but his younger sister beat him to the punch and flashed him a peace sign as she rappelled down. The hull groaned slightly as the gravity dust soaked woods eagerly absorbed more power. Somewhat wistful, he let slip the lines one by one, as above him his sisters reeled them in. The ship flared upwards, straining on the last line as it slowly swung away from the school. Tanner waited for the tension to lessen, before at long last he made the fateful call.

“Castaway!” he yelled up.

“Fair winds!” his sister yelled back.

“Safe travels!” Tanner yelled as a final reply, and turned away. He had to do it quickly, like ripping a bandaid off by now. He’d done his fair share of the fare thee well dance for the day.

Thankfully, all he had to look for was the lad that stood out like a lighthouse. It was easy to find the small group again, and in no time he stood next to them all again. His complete lack of luggage certainly helped, with barely anything in his pockets at first glance.

“Aye, sorry boot leavin like that. Had to do me last bit of duty.” he said, and glanced up. The ‘Charlie overhead could still be made out pretty clearly. He tore his gaze away ‘fore it became painful.

“So, never did catch yer names?” he continued.

Gazing upon the blanket, she noticed its peculiar design and pattern. It's nothing like she's seen before. One of her questions gained an answer from the rabbit girl. She explains the history of the blanket, turns out this wasn't even a blanket, to begin with. Explains the design. She had a hint of curiosity on her face, who is this girl and where did she come from? A question she did not bother asking. Now gazing back at the Blanket before laying it spread across the clothes on the ground to prevent it from staining from the filth of the school grounds. The girl blabbers onto the big Faunus while she folds the blanket in a great delicate way, slowly and precisely as to respect the thick cloth, making minimal creases and symmetrical folds.

"Whaaaa...?" Her head looks back up to the rabbit girl with a jaw drop. Looking back at the blanket she did notice an out-of-place red blot that she paid no mind to earlier. Now that it is mentioned, she can't help but take a brief observation but not to be as obvious doing so. She's no forensics expert but she hopes it's not what she thinks it is.

While finishing the final folds. Another voice approaches the trio, a boy this time. Nula reveals her face towards the newcomer. Introducing himself as Tanner, a crew member of the unfamiliar ship from the docks. The rabbit girl quickly answers back Tanner in regards to being a stowaway passenger, Why is this girl trying to convince all of them that she is not in her own words "I-I'm a not suspicious person"? As far as she knows she's not some kind of undercovered cop looking for her. Is Asher...? Slowly looking back to Asher, observing him eeriely from head to toe. Shaking the improbable thought out of her head by literally shaking her head. All she just did was just look at the ripped Faunus eeriely for no apparent reason, which she quickly looked away from the moment he look back at her. She quickly stood up after, with the now perfectly folded blanket in her hands. Tanner asked if they were new students, she intentionally dodges the question.

The boy at the moment seems to have unfinished tasks left to do. Nula stood silent wondering if they should wait for him. Asher for at the moment suggests that she should stick close to him to avoid getting lost. She could only nod in acknowledgment, as much as she hates to admit it. She does tend to get lost and she's lucky someone nice enough gets to stick around with that. Tanner returns to continue the conversation. Now with a more significant question.

"I'm uggghhhh... Umm.... My name is... Nula."
It took a few seconds to just introduce her first name and she could have gone a little farther if it weren't for the reminding haste of the school P.A. to proceed further into the academy which drove her new classmates to into the school now.

"Oh! heresyourb-blanket. We h-have to go now... I'm sorry. We'll talk a-again some other time!" She basically shoved the folded blanket back to her owner before grabbing her own luggage and hastily walk towards the flow of students now going to the main entrance hall.

Headmaster Blanche Vos
1aaa0d86446699910eefbb4955da4d34 (1).jpg
Once the recruits set foot within the halls, they are met with a large Siberian tiger and a child with a large grin on their face. Some people seemed confused as to what had occured with the promised principal, but in the blink of an eye, all questions become answered as soon as the boy sized himself up into an adult form. He spins his staff and poses as though he performed a magic trick that awes the crowd into an applause. "Thank you." He bowed gratefully. "Welcome children, to Beacon Academy and to Vale for those of you that are here abroad. I am the headmaster, Blanche Vos and this is our mascot, Snow the tiger. Fear not, she is friendly." He strokes the animal's head earning a purr of approval. "It's a pleasure to see a magnificent set of ladies and gentlemen eager to excel into be extraordinary Huntsmen. Today you will start with your entrance exams. Now I know that may sound unsettling, I assure you that everyone is accepted. The exam is to test your skills on the field and decide whom you'll pair as a group for the remainder of your life. Whoever you choose to stick with may or may not be your partner of my choosing." He discerned.

Now that Vos had finished his introduction speech, he began to lead the crowd to the east wing where they find themselves inside a training ground simulator already set up with what appeared to be a labarinth and a forest. The walls covered the scenery leaving only trees to peek out from the high walls. The entrance contained a row of steel doors for every individual to stand in front of.
"This will be your exam, a maze fortified with nothing but the great outdoors. Of course, it wouldn't be a challenge without some Grim. Inside are various low-ranked Grim. Your mission is a scavenger hunt. You must obtain a totem presented within the ring. There are four hidden within each section. Four totems hidden in a lake under a waterfall, four hidden in the meadow of tall grass, four hidden inside the section of tall trees where you must climb to the highest peek in a cavity you shall find the totem. Last but not least, four more hidden in a cave full of winding tunnels where no light shines. Once you have a totem, you will be escorted to the exit by one of our staff that are supposed to show up but failed." He grumbled on the last part before composing himself.

"Now then, let's begin your exam. Step forward and pick a numbered door. When everyone has chosen, the alarm will signal and open the doors. Oh, as for your belongings, please leave them here. Once you passed, you will be given your rooms through your scrolls. If you get lost, there should be a map in your scrolls." Vos waits for everyone to pick a door creating suspense. After a good minute, the air horn signals and the steel doors budge wide open.

As soon as the announcement finished, Saph skedaddled as if awoken from the realization that school has officially started and left Atomic with her belongings. She wasn't intentionally leaving to avoid what Lapis or anyone in the group was going to say. Her body merely reacted on her own. None of it mattered now that she's made a thoughtless choice.

When arriving to the last place the girl had ditched her brother, she found no sign of him nor her bags. Having a clear head made he realize how foolish she reacted. Something she has to overcome for the sake of being a Huntress. Wasting no time, she makes her way over to the entrance hall where she thankfully locates her twin. "There you are. I'm so sorry I left you with my luggage." Atomic glares at the girl reminded of the trouble he had to drag along not only his baggage, but her sister's as well. He rudely shoves her bags in her face showing his irritation. "Next time, try not to be dramatic and if you runaway do so by dragging your crap or else I'll discard them." He scolded. Saph puffs her cheeks in offense even though she knew he wouldn't do such a thing even if it killed him. Still, being called "dramatic" was not cool. Sure she probably made a fuss, but she felt it was for a good reason that seems like she is the only one freaking out over. "I was not trying to be dramatic. I was upset about being separated. How can you be ok with this?"

Atomic sighed having no idea how to comfort Saph on the matter. It was definitely hard for both in their own way except, Atomic had some time to accept the fact while being made out to be the bad guy. Instead of proceeding to argue, he diverts her attention to the child standing in the center of the hall. Saph's blue eyes focused on the child and their huge tiger. It was amazing to see an animal. A real life one standing before them. While in awe, the boy soon becomes an adult with their cane in a white uniform. Saph claps along with the crowd actually entertained. They begin to introduce themselves as the principal with their pet tiger, Snow.

Now moving along, Saph scrambles to pick up her things and follows everyone into the training room. Her eyes marvel at the labyrinth. Such advanced technology flexed for all to see just how prominent, the school is. What befuddled her is the row of steel doors with numbers. As if on the same wavelength, the principal explains the rules to their exam before asking them to leave their stuff on the floor and step onto a door. Everyone begins to scramble for a door leaving Saph to wonder if numbers matter. She starts to panic and calculate every possible outcome all for the sake of sticking to her brother like glue. So absorbed in her thoughts, she failed to pick a door beside her brother, should it matter if they were to find one another or able to speak through the walls.

"Miss Blackwell, please station yourself to a door. Everyone is waiting." Vos commanded, startling the girl. Eyes staring at her for causing yet another commotion. Her face grows flustered, embarrassed that her head is on a whole different plane. "Y-yes sir!" She stuttered as she shuffles over to the only vacant door with the number, thirteen on it. She gulped hard wondering if it was bad luck that everyone avoided the number or was it a sign of her insecurities proving her right?

'I have to get my head in the game, otherwise I'll get injured. Come on, Saph! You'll find Atomic in the forest. Even if you don't maybe you can talk to the principal about changing groups or something? Yeah, that's right. Nothing is definite.'

The girl takes a deep breath slowly collecting herself into survival mode. Her focus on the door, her objective and every possible thought to keep her senses keen. After one minute, the horn signals the start throwing her off guard. Everyone had already lunged into the field while she again was left behind. "Oh shoot!" She cursed then dashes into maze where Vos was left sighing in disappointment of the first impression towards the girl.

Lapis looked at the group odd, which prompted Xander to look at her eyes which he realized some of which were gems, was it just spider garb and dress for show? It seemed so thus far. The girl introduced herself as Lapis before going on to say how odd the girl who ran off was, though her take was a bit morbid she seemed to come from somewhere with a harsh background so he didn't put too much thought into it. "Nice to meet you Lapis." Xander stated with a friendly smile, or at least his best attempt at one, which made him look more intimidating than friendly despite his best efforts, he didn't smile on command well. She went to talk about Grimm his parents told him about as being formidable even for some seasoned hunters as if they were nothing, which seemed in line with what he could tell from her home but still a bit... odd, off in some manner. "I don't think most people here are ready for those, we're here to learn after all." Xander commented trying to help her understand the situations of others. Even if she was familiar with them, it didn't translate to being able to fight them on her own or work well with a team, but that would unfold in time.

Buc gave him a look that told off of what he thought of Lapis. He also felt Buc was of similar build to himself, not physically of course but they seemed to be cut of similar cloth as the saying goes. He would have offered to help him with his bags had it not been for the effortlessness which Buc treated them, to offer to help someone who had it so under control might be an insult so he just nodded to Buc, who spoke up about the unlikelyhood of fighting grimm, while true Xander felt with the current headmaster being somewhat know for his unconventional nature, he wouldn't bet for or against those chances. "I feel sparring would be a bit difficult with some people coming from very different places in terms of skills and abilities." Xander commented absentmindedly as he though of people who relied on gadgets to do well and if they used practice weapons they would be at a loss, and if they did unarmed Xander felt confident he would win, though he knew better than to underestimate others.

The trio soon arrived at the hall where their new headmaster and a tiger stood, Xander's eyes practically sparkled as he desired to pet it as it would look, he missed the headmaster's magic trick as he continued to stare at the tiger. The headmaster seeming to notice Xander's eyes on Snow, mentioned she was friendly which caused Xander to break into a wide grin, a natural one that didn't come off as creepy. Still he focused in on what the headmaster was saying as he began to speak up about the exam. The groups would be chosen by him, which hopefully meant those they worked with would be on the same team likely, but the pairing of traits to cover one another's weaknesses would also be used so teams wouldn't purely be those they were with or worked well with at the start, at least that's what Xander came to expect.

The headmaster explained they would be in a maze which caused Xander to involuntarily groan, he hated mazes and puzzles. He wasn't smart enough to memorize things like paths and patterns except through repetition. His next words saying it was nothing but outdoors gave Xander hope as he was very used to being outside and surviving. He should be fine after all, with his sheer brawn he would be able to force his way through a maze and likely grimm of lower level. His friends joked he had the strength of an Ursa, seeing he might have a chance to test that in a safe and controlled enviorment, he decided he may as well risk it to show off a little, perhaps impress the girls... he blushed some and shook his head away from that train of thought, now wasn't the time. The rest of the details were roughly filed into his mind: Bust through the maze, find a totem, punch a grimm, wrestle an Ursa. He was pumped up and slipped on his gauntlets, the only weapons he hadn't managed to break yet with his brute force, though they were a bit worse for wear they still held up fine.

Xander chose door ten as he was used to ten being his lucky number, X marks the spot after all. He grinned and lumbered towards it as he moved through the door as it opened, he blasted into a sprint as the easiest way through a maze was... well through it. He made it to a tree and slammed into it using his semblance causing it to crack and break as he tore through it, slamming into the ground on the other side. This was not the maze he was expecting at all and he had been going too fast to stop easily due to his overall mass. He let out a groan, definitely not a softer wood. "Not doing that again..." He muttered aloud, though his aura protected him he still felt the tail end of it. Still he had a giant tree downed to show for his strength... though it felt off in some way, but he wasn't about to spend any brain power trying to figure out why. He decoded instead of getting lost in it, he would just go to the treetops and find his own way. As such he climbed the downed tree and started looking for other people and totems...

The idea that hunters wouldn't be tested against grimm to Lapis seemed stupid, they fought grimm not people what would fighting people prove. The best way to learn to fight was to go and fight, to kill or be killed by grimm. Teaching others how too fight also seemed silly, aside from tricks what could to teach someone, they had their own semblance and thus should fight different than you , again fighting was the only way to learn how to fight. Lapis didn't think such a view was harsh or to much, it was just how life had been, you didn't learnt o fight grimm by fighting people, you learned to fight grimm by fighting grimm.

" That is a good joke Buc I am sure the headmaster would not do something so silly" Lapis said not hiding how funny she found the idea of hunters sparing as an exam.

What did surprised her was Xander saying people not be ready for such grimm, well the last one might be tough, but the rest were suitable for kids. In fact deathstalkers were used in child games where you cut off their pincers and then saw who could let their stringer get the closest without getting hit. The people here were just so different from back home, Lapis would have thought the girl from before was not as odd if not for the two guys seeming to not completely confirm that girl was the normal one.

" i guess you are right kids like those here have to starts somewhere" Lapis sighed again seeing the people here many about to become adults as children. She half wondered how many of them had managed to get beyond drinking juice.

Heading over to where the headmaster made his announcement did confirm to lapis everyone here , except her of course, was a kid even if she was younger than them. As the headmaster went on Lapis kind of mentally came and went in terms of paying attention. To her it went something something something doors something something grimm something something totems something. Really he had her attention the most at the chance to fight grimm, which to her was the test. Finding a totem sounded kind of dull as what did that have to do with killing grimm? Lapis really only cared that she had to pick a door and that would her to the killing. Counting the doors Lapis moved to door six as she ran out of fingers to count on. She could count higher but now was not the time for math.

Whe the alarm went off Lapis lingered for a moment looking to see the girl from before not even heading for a door, well maybe she wouldn't join it was for the best this place had plenty of room for those to weak to fight. With that Lapis walked into her door and into the forest. She did wonder how she got to one, but just shrugged it off the headmaster was mysterious like that and right now she had grimm to kill. As Lapis walked her threads started to flow lout and into the air ready to be used.

Tanner gave a polite applause when the headmaster showed off his trick. He knew something would be up before he even set a foot on the schoolgrounds. One of the basic facts of life, no Huntsman could ever be considered bland. Sure, some hid it better than others, but flamboyance ran deep in their veins all the same. From flashy moves, colourful clothes, stage tricks thrown into their daily life or in the headmaster’s case all of the above and more, a true hunstman always, always stood out as larger than life. Huntsman and women were somehow more vibrant, in some ways more alive than others.

Tanner figured that suplexing Ursas for a living is what caused it. Live fast and fully, there’s no prizes for best looking corpse and all that.

His school year would put this theory to the test.

The eyes of the headmaster roamed the room, and a shiver ran down his spine. This man wasn’t all fun and games.

He was happy to move out.

Not having any belongings, in a manner of speaking, meant he could just stroll down the doorways until he found number seven. He knelt before the door and closed his eyes, head tilted to the side. AP, definitely, but maybe he should throw in some incendiary just to be sure. One by one, black boxes materialised in his hands. Oversized shells clinked softly as he packed the magazines away.

He glances to the side, at the faunus with the mask next to thim. The lad appears deep in thought. Best not to disturb him. The other one, a faunus with a pretty web pattern on her clothes and gems apparently fused directly to her skull, now she seemed like a fun one to tease.

“Ey, ye ready?” Tanner said lazily. He held a palm to the floor as something else rose from the floor. Something far more massive. The oversized gun is about as tall as Tanner is, and the young man handles it with pride and care. Experimentally, he twirls the heavy beast over his head, then throws up a single round of ammunition. A brass cartridge with for some reason no bullet, but just a red paper cone. He caught it with the open breech of the gun and slammed it into place, ready to fire. For some reason, in the opposite direction of the door. When the horn sounded, he kicked back. Just to be sure the door was actually open, or what happened next would be more embarrassing than kick ass.

“See ya!” he exclaimed, and pulled the trigger.

The ensuing blast shattered the floor, singed the opposite wall, and most importantly hurled Tanner into the maze. He didn’t have a bet going on with anyone, but for the hell of it he decided to try and get a token out first. As he flew on the recoil of Skoâne, he flung out one of his anchors. He swung around the corner, scanned the corridor, and threw up another incendiary round. The things were meant to basically blast a select area in front of the barrel with a short but intense flame. They also didn’t actually fire any bullets, so Tanner felt they were safer to use for recoil surfing than his AP rounds.

With another thunderous blast, he rocketed off again. Keep to the left fork, he thought to himself, keep left and only try a right after a dead end. A basic way to get through a maze, but no less effective. He figured he’d just skip right past most Grimm at first, lead them on a merry chase, and then once they all lined up, he’d mow them down right quick.

with everyone gathered up the principal would address them all greeting them and introducing himself as Blanche Vos and his pet tiger apparently? a bit odd but asher wasn't really going to judge frankly it was rather cool. once the introductory speech was finished. Blanche would then explain their entrance exam. they were gonna be thrown into a maze to go find 4 totems in some low level grim filled mess. it seemed reasonable at least to asher. until the mention of the escort staff where.. well not currently here that was somewhat worrisome. oh well, Asher would go up to a certain door looking over to Nula though and Lucoco girl. as the airship dude had already run off somewhere else. "you two want to join me once we are inside? we are probobly gonna need to make teams at some point so we might as well work together for now right? " Asher would say calmly to the others waving them over if the decided to join in that was perfectly fine and then the air horn blasted for them all to start.. most other really got running or blasting thier way in to the maze already showing off thier mobility. Asher door opened to the thick green forest instead of rushing inside hed walk rather quietly the nosey action of others having drawn away the Grimm to thier location leaving asher abd his blackish crystal blade to themselves for the most part. "Hu pays to take your time i suppose...?" Asher said to himself looking around for a moment. Before some grimn came shooting out of the forest swiftly being split in half by then large blade asher was carrying not thinking it was necessary for him to use his semblance just yet.

The Sharpening

It didn't take long for Nula to find the entrance with the increased number of students arriving and one just close by guiding on her way in. Stepping foot into the new training hall gave her goosebumps as she is greeted with faces of all kinds surrounding her. Each with their own motives to become hunters of Grimm. It's breathtaking and looking back she lost track of Asher. She frowns in worrisome, thinking she might have walked away too fast and stacked to crowd too much and ditched him. Looking all around she failed to find the Faunus who is 7 foot tall.

The time to look for him may have to be put on pause. A grand figure has caught the attention of the students, her included. On stage was a white-suited boy with a matching snow-white colored tiger that made froze in place for a brief moment. Now looking around more to check if everyone is seeing what she is seeing. She took off her glasses and cleaned them, leaving her eyes away from the Headmaster for a brief moment. Before recovering her vision with clearer spectacles. She noticed a slight difference from the headmaster from before, she failed to pinpoint so as the students applaud for their headmaster which she too followed along with her own soft clapping barely counting in the applause.

Four totems are hidden in a lake under a waterfall, four hidden in the meadow of tall grass, four hidden inside the section of tall trees where you must climb to the highest peak in a cavity you shall find the totem. Last but not least, four more are hidden in a cave full of winding tunnels where no light shines. Once you have a totem, you will be escorted to the exit by one of our staff that is supposed to show up but failed."

Introductions are made as Headmaster Vos now moves onto a rather early activity that will affect the rest of the school year, she gulps and clears her throat. Now looking down towards her scroll briefly to check the time and open a note application to jot down the information just in case. Just a habit back in Signal academy.

The further her rapid typing thumb types the objectives. The more she became worried about the road ahead. Her scroll slightly fidgets, showing her inner feelings to those who are near her. Looking back up to notice the picked up pace, she could barely ask any questions she would like to ask, and even if given the chance, there is no doubt she would even ask these anyway, not here nor in private.

"Now then, let's begin your exam. Step forward and pick a numbered door. When everyone has chosen, the alarm will signal and open the doors. Oh, as for your belongings, please leave them here. Once you pass, you will be given your rooms through your scrolls. If you get lost, there should be a map in your scrolls."

All she could do is tighten her shoulder bag in anticipation of what's to come before she eventually had to let go. With haste, she made her way into the doors and she left her belongings behind. On her way through the numbered doors, her eyes caught a certain figure in the crowd, with his size she found him. He notices her too and asked to team up inside the maze of trees with a matching warm smile.

"I-i... Uhhhh... I... I-I'mmmm."

"Yes!"

Being urged to decide quickly as she can see past Asher's shoulder, students lining up to their chosen doors and she looked around for vacant ones before answering him. Now jogging towards the very first door which is door number one. Standing before the painted number, she took one more deep breath before double-checking her gear. A plasma pistol and a quarterstaff. Looking at both and then to others, it could be better in her opinion.

She caught a brief look over the other standing students rowed beside her. Some are determined and some excited, it makes her more nervous than before. Showing a bit of false confidence. She shakes her head back to her weapon of choice, she draws out her blue/gold color plasma pistol, its highlights glow bright blue with a low whirring noise on startup. Aimed directly into the door, waiting for it to open at any given moment. Controlled breaths, an aligned aim, and a ready stance. Everything went muffled and near-silent, as she expects the door to be opened now, any conversation with her falls on deaf ears. The only thing that shattered the silence is the sound of the airhorn signaling the start of the exam.

"L-let's do this!"

Entering the opening door without hesitation, she was greeted with a thick green forest that shades over the student's heads. It's almost like the real thing. How was this built? better yet how will she get through this? Questions again dwell in her mind that she is forced to hold for now. Her fast pace forward walk is just as sure as her gun pointing deep into the complex maze. No Grimm in sight yet and knowing she just marched off a couple of steps away from starting point, she's confident that it is unlikely Grimm coming to ambush her from the back. Any Grimm coming her way, she'll have to be ready for. Who knows what dwells in these woods.

CWVkxr3VAAACI3E.png The minute the air horn went off, everyone lunged forward, minus one person who candidly chose to walk. Of course, Saphiria felt rushed as she fumbled between her thoughts and the exam failing to notice the maze indeed comprised of tall trees huddled together by hefty vines and fog to conceal the labyrinth. Should anyone attempted to hurdle through would be considered tangled up or worse. As Saph gradually composes herself, she starts up a plan while at the same time being vigilant. It was so surreal how holograms have advanced in their graphics taking on a whole new level. The girl couldn't help but marvel over how much the creators captured even the scents and weather. "Crazy." She mumbled.

Things grew crazier when the floor suddenly rumbles underneath and the trees afar shift. She wasn't the only one experiencing change, for she could hear the cries of a few people questioning what was going on. By the time the Earth stabilized, Saph proceeds hastily and with caution. At the end of the tunnel, she found herself trip down a steep hill causing her to land flat on the ground. She groans, cursing under her breath over the pain. How could she have fallen for such a trick? What's more, she takes a gander at her environment connecting the dots as she learns something interesting.

'Oh I see. The Earth shaking, the tunnels and trees shifting was a long platform that decides where we end up so not everyone ends up in the same space. Fascinating!'

She turns around facing a path filled with more trees only they are not pine but rather simple trees you find in every domestic town. After solving the mechanics, Saph is filled with a new-found determination. What makes things more exciting is the roar of a Beowulf. A grin crosses her lips as she prepares to travel into unknown territory and take on Grimm with her scissor-sword in hand.

"I'm heading out now, pops."
"Oh, is it that time already...? I'll be darned. Well, you take care!"

Garnet couldn't help but let an eye twitch in irritation. Here she was! Standing right in front of the door, Blastforge strapped to her back and a duffel bag slung over her shoulder. His one and only daughter was about to be leaving for maybe years! Who knew when they would see each other again? And all this man did— "Woah there! That egg just about jumped outta the frying pan, hahaha...! We got a feisty one!" —Was focus on cooking his breakfast?! Garnet had been dramatically facing the door, her back to her father as she said her farewells...but after waiting for a few moments more to no avail, Garnet stomped her foot and turned around with a huff.

"I'm leaving, you know?! I won't be back here for a long time...!"
"...Now where's this coming from, Garnet?" The man just looked over his shoulder, confused and with an arched brow. "I read all of the Academy's letters. I know what's gonna happen. Now, aren't those airships leaving soon...? You should hop to it!"
"That's—That's not the point! I mean, it kind of is but..." Garnet let out a frustrated groan and held her head, "...I don't know, shouldn't you be saying something right now? Some annoying lecture about stuff I already know, or a dumb smithy pun, or, or...! I don't know! Anything more than just ' cya later '?!"
With another boisterous laugh, her father walked from the kitchen to the foyer, bulky arms crossed as he did. "I thought you hated those, though!" Of course, her father found her pouting cute. It was always amusing to see his daughter throw a fuss whenever he poked at her like this. Even now Garnet was already huffing and preparing another bashful complaint. Usually, he'd keep at it until her face went red and she stormed off...

...But this time, he cut the games short as his voice cut out, stepping and kneeling in front of her.. "Garnet." His voice no longer held the same lighthearted tone from before. As he placed a hand on her shoulder, knowing her full attention was on him...he let the jovial smile fade from his face, his age finally showing across all of his features. "By now, I've already hammered everything I wanted to teach you into your thick skull. You're a good girl. My good girl. I trust you to keep yourself safe out there. I trust you to make us both proud." ...But even despite the weight in his voice, he couldn't let his face light up with warmth and love for his daughter, "And I know that no matter what you do in Beacon, your mother will be proud of you, too. Because you are our precious daughter." As Willhelm Alizarin ruffled her hair with his calloused hand, watching his daughter melt underneath the affection.

"...Dad...I..."
"...Eh? Eh?? Get it? I hammered it in? It's a blacksmith pun—C'mon, that was a good one...!"
"—Aargghhh! You piss me off so much! I'm going now, so BYE...!"

Now that she thought about it some more, she really should've had some of that breakfast he was cooking.

"—Crap...!" Her chest violently rose and fall with each panicked breath she took. The ground shook as her feet pounded at them in a wild sprint, pausing only to hop over what had to be a tree root intentionally designed to trip others. If she fell for a lame trick like THAT, how could she ever keep her pride as a Huntress? But more than that. This was a bad situation, and she couldn't afford to be making silly mistakes like that. "Come on, come on! Shake off of me already!" After the ground itself had begun shifting, the world twisting and contorting...at the end of her tunnel, she had been brought face-to-face with a singular Beowolf within a meadow of tall grass. Easy pickings for Blastforge! While she wasn't exactly wrong...the situation had long since spiraled out of her control.

Was this because the Headmaster had heard her itching for a fight? Just because she SAID she wanted to get fighting already didn't mean she actually mean...! Gah, there was no time to even complain about it all. Taking a sharp left turn around a particularly thick tree trunk, the meadow far behind her now, "Dammit! Damn you, Headmaster...!" She let out of another curse slip out between her pants. Blastforge was too destructive...after slaying the Grimm by catching it off guard with a single explosive swing, the flashy execution method had managed to reign in three more Beowolves directly onto her location! They hadn't let up since; each time she dared to slow down, the sight of their prey growing closer only made them more hungry for the kill. By the time it had occurred to her that the meadow she found might be the one where she could find a totem—she was already caught up in the hunt.

...It hurt her pride. It really did. But Garnet had no other choice. Her stamina had a limit. Her heavy weapon couldn't take on three agile Beowolves at once. And she needed time to search around the meadow, lest she risk running out of time because of this nonsense. So, swallowing her pride and taking a deep breath between all of her panting,
"HEY! IS ANYBODY THERE?! I COULD REALLY USE SOME HELP, OVER HERE...!" Garnet aggressively yelled into the depths of the forest, hoping her message would reach someone...and that someone would actually bother to come lending a hand.

lapis Had already started to have what little fun there was to be had in this hunt. Beowolves that weren't even alphas had little chance against her threads. Lapis could lash out and cut the grimm with ease, or tie them up and construct them, or even entrap them in stick strands to play with over time, but these weren't even alphas they were barely worth the time it took to be rid of them for all the fun it was. Lapis did worry that if this was what the children here started off with that they would be unable to deal with real grimm when they showed up. That was if they showed up and Xander had mentioned the grimm she saw as normal were considered strong here so maybe they got weaker the more south you got? Well that was true enough on her home, but still a big bad grimm could show up at anytime and if you played with beowolves you would not be ready.

Lapis was trying to remember where those totems were so she could grab one and go back, she was sure it was meant to be a team thing but shew didn't need one with weak grimm like this around. Where was a nevermore when you needed one, they might not be strong but flight was fun at least? Resting in a tree and stretching her legs having ditched her shoes awhile back Lapis was thinking maybe a nap would help jog her memory of where the totems were.

It was then she heard it, someone calling out for her. Lapis half wondered if they really needed help they were trying to be hunters and should expect death and crying out for help on such weak enemies was really not a good way to be remembered as a hunter. Well it wasn't like her people didn't need help , just if you needed help you better make sure the grimm was worth it or you would be laughed at big time. Needing help with beowolves was humiliating to any of her people. Well Lapis was the adult around here, she had gone on solo hunts and drank real alcohol not the watered down stuff for teens and adults had to help kids. Lapis had to help the girl, and maybe if she did the girl would know where the totems were. using her treads Lapis swung going faster and faster through the trees the threads actually shrinking to add momentum over her purely swinging.

In moments Lapis was close to the source of the screams and saw a girl with three beowolves coming at her. She had a weapon so Lapis didn't see why she needed help , but hunter weapons here seemed to be overly complex, you just needed a but of metal or a rock and your semblance to fight grimm not some transforming gear driven dust shooter. Lapis swung up going high into the air and with a twist starting herself spinning as she let her threads flow out. Barely visible the thin threads glinted in the sun and made a barely visible cone as lapis descend. The threads flared out and before Lapis touched the ground bit into the beowolves. Despite their thinness the threads were sharp and left clean slices through the grimm.

" You wouldn't happen to know where a totems is I am getting bored of Childs play?" Lapis asked the girl as the three grimm turned to dust sounding rather bored with the kill and in truth she was , there should have been more like double or triple the number then it might have been somewhat fun. she wasn't exactly concerned with the girl's safety if she got hurt she got hurt it wasn't Lapis's responsibility to care for the well being of others when she wasn't hunting with them.

Asher noticed the wierd rumbling it sounded like stuff was moving infact he was fairly sure the grass had been a far diffrent colour then what it was before. the mans slow but steady pace meant that he managed to spot a pitfall trap before he'd ended up falling into it as well a as few trip wires that where struck between seemed those that where rushing would have a bit of a harder them at it then himself at least that was asher thought. though his wandering was fairly aimless he'd not found any of the places that even seemed like where the totem would be located, the only things he manage to find where more low level grim, they where not the most difficult infact most of them where somewhat smaller then asher, the huge male cleaving them into fading pieaces. "did i manage to get lose or? hmmm" asher though to himself hearing nothing around him.. aside from the creaking of trees. there just wasn't really anything he could go off turning left he ended up in a far denser forest.. the sound of grimm rather apparent now. "right so no heat beams rather not cause the whole place to go ablaze.. wouldn't really go well" asher said to himself.

Tanner kicked off a tree branch, angled his body around and threw up a line. It snagged a blocky, not quite real trunk, and spun him around the tree like a ballerina. His legs ate the distance in massive loping strides, just barely enough to keep him from faceplanting into the not quite dirt on the floor. He twirled his wrist and pulled free, moving directly up for a brief moment. He burst through the leafy roof for a brief moment. A glint of white caught his eye, that of a fellow hopeful. The airman nodded.

Tanner threw the last of his flame burst bullets at the tree next to him. As he fell, he caught the shell into his gun on the rebound, snapped it shut and levelled the barrel. He spotted the white glint to his east, so he aimed west. Away from the Grimm, but with Skoâne the dangerous end didn’t just mean the part that the bullets came out of. Tanner grinned as he held the gun pointed backwards over his shoulder, thumb on the trigger in a position only a little bit awkward. The shoulder stock lined up with a beowulf. Tanner squeezed the trigger. A shot thundered out and the brutal recoil propelled the entire assembly wielder and all forward like a cannonball. Shoulder stock met wulf jaw and Tanner could feel the bone break under what was for all intents and purposes a rocket propelled punch. He didn’t anchor himself with Aura in the slightest, and rode the recoil. The still very much alive wulf scratched at him.

“Thankee kindly fer flyin with us sadly-” Tanner started, and punched the wulf off the shoulder stock, shattering the already broken bone and sending the monster crashing into the forest floor below. “- yer ticket is not valid, goodbye!”

Still coasting on his recoil, he just tapped a branch below him and leapt to the skies once more.

Slavering maws with wicked teeth snapped at his scent.

He was almost out of speed. So he planted his rifle barrel first in the ground. With the last of his momentum, he spun around and planted two feet squarely in the face of the wulf leading the chase. Like a bowling ball, it struck it’s fellows.

He glanced to the side. The lad he chased, and now found, stood a fair bit taller than him. Rough built, with simple clothes and an observant pair of brown eyes. Beaten, but well cared for gauntlets on his arms suggested a brawler. Perfect.

“Aye lad, up for a bit of a ruck?” Tanner said with a cheeky grin. “Need a sec of peace to pull out a special summat. Duck when I says to, aight?”

Xander swung through the trees mostly unhindered except for the occasional grimm which he easily batted away with enough force to make them dissipate. He didn't know the size of the things they were looking for but assumed that it wouldn't be something tiny that you would have a hard time seeing except from the ground, however before he could ponder this much more he noticed someone blasting his direction, quite literally. He decided it best to drop down to the ground to make it easier to converse with the other person, assuming they came to talk to him as they seemed to follow him as he had been moving.

As they approached, Xander heard them more than he saw them with what seemed to be clacking of tools and items. First thing he noticed of his newfound companion was that, he reeked akin to an engineer straight out of a factory in Atlas smelling of, grease, metal, vile synthetic chemicals, and an awful smell of something that burnt his nose and smelt like acid and gunpowder but not quite... regardless the stranger's scent was unpleasant to him, still he wasn't going to judge him solely off that, cows smelled unpleasant but were very useful and gentle creatures. Having taken in the scent of technology he was un-surprised to see that he was laden with the look of a city dweller or technician, scruffy clothes, pouches of tools, and a large gun.

However the way he talked was in such a rural manner Xander was somewhat caught off guard, while where he was from didn't use the same slang they had their own way of talking in his hometown. "Alright." He responded as he nodded to Tanner, they seemed alright so far, though he was somewhat perplexed by the strange mix of rural and urban found in the boy.

Lucoco

"Name's Lucoco. You can also call me Coco, Choco, Kokoa, Lucoa-" Lucoco started to count her fingers as she listed a few nicknames she had been called in the past. She seemed to have more in store but she decided to settle with those four as they arrived at the main hall and was greeted by a boy with his white tiger, and he turns out to be an adult whose turns out to be the principal. She just giggled at the occurence, she also oftenly use her semblance to prank people so she was more amused than confused about this principal Voz.

Next Voz explained the rules of the exam. Quite simple, get inside the place and look for a totem. Hearing the word totem briefly sent her mind back to those animal shapes carved and stacked into wooden poles in front of the tent of some Vacuan tribes. Ohh, now she wanted to get a bear totem. She got excited for it and immediately jogged towards one of the door when they finally begun. The first thing she saw the moment she got out of the tunnel was an ursa. A rather large one, it turned its head towards the faunus.

"Err. Do you have a bear totem with you?" The ursa lets out a loud roar at Lucoco, who use both of her hands to cover four of her ears as best as she could.

"I guess you don't." Lucoco ran away the moment the ursa stopped roaring. However, an after image of herself was left behind in her place and the grimm decided to lunge at the defenseless target, only to find the static faunus poofed out of existence the moment its claw touch the figure. It let out a frustated roar but by that time the real Lucoco was already too far for it to detect.

The rabbit faunus run through the forest, using her sharp hearing to avoid dangerous noises while occasionally sends out decoy illusions to misdirect a few grimms out of her way. She didn't know how long she would need to finish this exam so she would rather conserve her resources and avoid fighting unless necessary. She expect there would be more grimms the further she went into the forest but she felts like the opposite was happening. She now could relax a bit and her ears caught a rustling noise from above. Monkey? Lucoco looked up to confirm it and spotted a boy was climbing a tree, probably to look for a totem.

"Hellooo!!" The rabbit faunus called him from the ground, she's just happy to find someone else really. "See something interesting up there??"
