Futuristic Rules of Engagement: Section I

SFC Jessica Waverly 'Archangel' Princeton
PALADIN Squad Sigma

Reloading her Rifle, she heard her commander on the Wireless Communication. "Yes sir." She smiled, planning on having a field day with the enemy. Taking aim, she pulled the trigger, firing at the enemies that ran towards her teammates. Whether it was taking out small groups of two or more, or popping their heads off, Princeton just made sure her team was making it to their objective and keeping the enemy at bay. Smoke caused by her explosive rods started to riddle the air in the distance. She then bared her teeth. "For each Paladin that loses their lives to you monsters...I'll kill ten more of you..." She said coldly as she continued to open fire. After the last magazine went empty, she decided to change positions, taking one behind the enemy, since they were focused on her team. Though at the same time, it seemed like they were trying to flush her out of hiding. Not like that was gonna happen. She started hindering that, starting with the Sniper Trackers that the enemy tried to set up and continuing to take down the rest of them accordingly.

Lucienne was covering Zurgus with her shotgun keeping the birdbrains away from him as much as possible as he set up charges on the AA's, she was all in her zone until it was broken when Zurgus yelled "RUN" She quickly jumped away just in time as she felt the massive vibrations of AA guns firing near her. "JUST HIT IT" she held her head down incase any shrapnel found its way there

Zurgus peeked slightly out of cover to try and spot if Lucienne was clear but he couldn't see in her in the second that it took for the guns to swivel back towards him. He placed a charge on the gun he currently used as cover and strapped an AT mine to the side. He set his feet and primed his jump jets. "FIRE IN THE HOLE" He launched into the air. He heard the guns start to adjust to track him then he hit the detonator. The shock-wave hit and sent him spiraling to the ground. He slammed into the ground roughly fifty meters away from what used to be the gun emplacement but was now a large pit housing a raging fire. Smoke billowed from the wreckage covering the area.

"Sigma five to Lead. Objective complete but Iv'e lost visual on Sigma six." Zurgus ran towards the smoke cloud. "please, please, please." He said over and over as he searched. He'ed made the charges too big. He thought they would have time to clear out before setting them off. He was mistaken.

Once again Riktor was engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the Talakan, having taken a few out before they got too close to his cover and he had no other choice. At least the rifle he had grabbed was coming in handy in this case, a nice weapon with a spiked ammo useful for ammo and made more damage if they got pulled out from the ammo cache on it. Getting a tiny break as he found another spot he took a moment to address the Major's response and orders. "Understood Major, I'll be expecting you." The Private nods as he readjusts his grip on the rifle in his hands to fire it, popping up from cover and in the next moment the left part of his goggles was broken and cracked, shards of grassing hitting his eyes but what was worse was the crystal in the goggles and taking cover he quickly ripped them off as the shard shattered itself doing minor damage to his hand where it had been worse if he kept it on.
Now without a current read of vitals and a bleeding eye he popped back up and laid into the offender, to say the least that bird-brain would be full of shards and so would his friends heads. He could switch the vitals readout but he had other priorities, at least he still had audio but it was less useful and more activity-requiring, but it'd still work.
"Shoulda stayed crying…" He mumbled to himself as he took aim yet again and began to clear the top of the stairs, his aim still on for the majority of his shots despite his messed-up eye.

The chaotic nature of the ensuing battle had provided Lebowski with the perfect cover to carry out his mission. He made sure to exploit such an opportunity to its fullest.

When the sniper decided that he wanted to make scaling the cliff side even more of an obstacle than it already was, the Sergeant Major employed a tactic to avoid the gunfire. The simple ‘going around’ technique. It worked, but now Lebowski was missing half the fun. It was a time consuming effort, but such a thing would always be ten times better than being the target of a sharpshooter and wearing no helmet.

The greyed veteran finally managed to get a leg up over the cliff. Of course there would be more xenos just beyond. Luckily not a single one had their attentions fixed on Lebowski himself. They were all devoted to laying down suppressive fire against his fellow squaddies. It was a perfect opportunity, ready to be taken advantage of.

Buenos dias, amigos.” Lebowski grabbed an unsepecting alien by the helmet before forcing a fist straight into its temple with his punching arm and reducing its face to mere purée by slamming it into the ground. He reached for the corpse’s weapon, turning it against their unsuspecting comrades. Two fell, and one barely stood after being shot in the gut. He finished the creature of swiftly, bringing the weapon of foreign design around into its cheek meat as if it were a game of baseball.

Sigma 3, here. I see my apprentice has made use of his skills.”

"Nice of you to join us Lebowski." Marius Replied over his Coms unit, firing another three round burst from his GSM-40. The Incendiary round struck home, setting the avian invader ablaze, when a sight that would forever haunt his memories took place. In the thick of battle, he spotted Reese cleaving her way through several Fanatics, when she took a burst of Shredder rounds to her chest. Due to her synthetic nature, the lambent crystals didn't detonate moments later, sending the Liberis into a frenzy. Of course this was short lived when one of the still very much alive and burning Talakan fanatic sprinted past setting the already doomed Paladin ablaze as well.
Panic filled the Liberis' eyes as she took off trying to put herself out screaming "
at the top of her lungs, sprinting towards what seemed to be an ammo cache. It was as if watching a school bus full of handicap children crashed headlong into a brick wall while on fire in slow motion. He just could tear his eyes away. Moments later the Shredder crystals detonated, due to the excessive heat from the burning synthetic, causing her chest to erupt into a shower of crystalline fragments and burning flesh and viscera, followed by the ammo cache.

"Holy Shit..." Marius said slack jawed from the horribly gruesome and explosive death, as violet flames licked the sky, torching any enemies near by. "Maybe she's still-" Before he could finish his sentence, a medical supply crate the size of a trailer streaked through the sky and impacted the burning cache. "Somebody must of really had it out for you... Fuck... Um mission accomplished... Holy shit..."

SFC Jessica Waverly 'Archangel' Princeton
PALADIN Squad Sigma

While her team continued their mission, Princeton did her best to ensure her Teammates completed their mission. However, watching Reese die through her scope was a rather terrifying moment. This was not the first time she has witnessed a Soldier die in battle, but she feared it wouldn't be the last. War always had casualties. She shook the feeling of shock before continuing to concentrate. Taking out that Ammo Cache will probably be used to their advantage. While keeping an eye out for her teammates, Princeton kept her finger above the trigger, not wanting a friendly fire incident. However, the last thing she needed was her Unit getting wiped out. Enough of them have died as it is on this mission. Hopefully Command would find it worth it. She lost a lot of friends today, and she wasn't about to lose anymore. "This is Sigma Sniper, requesting Mission Update."

When Zurgus detonated his charge Lucienne was engulfed in flames and thrown back a little, she closed her eyes tight as she felt the shock wave impacted her side, laying down had mitigated much of the damage that it would've done but it was still enough to send her flying a few feet. when she opened her eyes her HUD was filled with nothing but fire and her body ached like no tomorrow, debating on whether or not to pretend to be knocked out she instinctively got up from her rather warm position on the ground and preceded to walk out of the firestorm she found herself in. "Sigma Six reporting in, im not dead" she stumbled out of the flames to look at the destruction around her but her peaceful little sight seeing was interrupted when she realized that she was still in a battlefield with hostile bird-brains all around her. She had missed the news of Reese's death but she couldn't really care as she quickly ran for cover before she was caught by any sneaky bird.

"Major! Mission update? that explosion rattled me a bit but the AA guns are out!"
Peaking out of her cover she looked about taking in her surroundings, there were quite a few fireballs some she could distinguish as ones made by Zurgus's charges and others were unfamiliar.

Shaking himself from the horrible demise of their newest addition, Marius chinned the coms unit opening the channel to all friendly forces in the area. "The is Major Arulious to all Confederate personnel. Regroup at grid 274-17S. Bring everything you can carry. As of right now, we are stranded. if we are to survive, we'll need to band together now more than ever." He barked over the open channel before switching it to Sigma's. "Ostrogo, Clear out the stragglers, take Takahn with you. The rest of you see what you can salvage." He said making his way towards the pinned medic.
Upon entering the remains of the structure, the Major found several bodies, all Talakan, most of them fanatic with the odd Deacon strewn about the floors. Damn kid, remind me not to piss you off. The major thought policing any gear that would prove useful. Making his way up the stairs, he spotted the splattered corpses of the avian invaiders along with several lambent glowing shards peppering the area. "You alright kid?" Marius asked seeing the light wounds the medic received. "We'll have friendlies inbound for the final gun, then we'll det up here as a staging point for our push into the ruins. Rest up, you've earned it"

Well, at least the battle was over for now, and judging by the sounds of those explosions so was the first part of the mission but of course. No reason for getting rid of the emplacements now that the ship had been blown to smithereens, but another would come eventually the ship probably had gotten out some signal before it got blown from existence anyhow. So, looking at his handiwork and hearing Marius over the comms he decided to sit for a moment, his eye was still bleeding so at least he could take care of it for now as he set his new weapon beside him and opened up his medkit as he heard more footsteps approaching underneath him. Readying his Shredder he aimed it at the steps just in case he had missed a straggler, but was met by the face of the Major and smiles as he set the rifle back down and returned to his medkit as he was spoken to. "Yeah. I'm good Major, gonna need to find a med officer I trust to help me with my eye when I get back but, I'll be fine." Riktor spoke with a smirk as he held his left eye open and applied a small amount of med-gel to it to stop the bleeding, at least after this engagement he wouldn't have to listen to anymore talk about him being "green", and that alone was worth the time he'd have to getting his fur right again. It was mostly for aesthetic after all, not many snowey places around here.
After finishing his cleanup of himself and listening to Marius he got up, seeming fine without rest.
"No offense Major, but I'll decide when I've earned that rest. But… We lose anyone else? My readout got destroyed in the fight up here, got to switch it over to audio still… I just heard a few things and, I need to know if I got to add anyone else to the casualty list." He said this all whilst looking the Major dead in the eyes with his one functioning one, adjusting his one-handed grip on the Shredder he would be using for the rest of the campaign along with his GSM-40. He knew he had things to scavenge before they headed out, after all maybe this place had some Talakan medical supplies somewhere, be good for study.

The sounds of battle were becoming quieter and quieter. Zurgus stepped up onto an outcropping and looked across the battlefield as friendly units started making their way to the rally point. They dragged equipment and wounded as they made their way to the burned out gun emplacement. He keyed his radio "Sigma Five to lead. Looks like we're clear but we have a lot of wounded coming in. Maybe we can make that structure a temporary field hospital?" As he spoke his eyes scanned over the friendly troops. He saw a few gun turrets and communications devices brought up. A few medics weaved through the troops attending to those being carried on makeshift stretchers. And then he saw it again. The blur flashed between a foxhole and a pile of rubble. Zurgus gripped his weapon hard, mainly to keep his hand from shaking. He took a deep breath in and reopened his eyes. And the blur was gone. He breathed out. Slung his weapon over his shoulder and started directing the troops to set up defensive positions.

SFC Jessica Waverly 'Archangel' Princeton
PALADIN Squad Sigma

The battle began to die down. Without the worry of having enemies coming for her, Jessica decided to go regroup with the remainder of Sigma Squad. It would seem that the unit was hit pretty hard in this battle. While the Paladins took heavy casualties, it would seem that the playing field was evened out, as the enemy has also taken heavy casualties. Seeing the Takahn corpses riddle the field made her feel almost satisfied. Most of them were her own kills to keep them from getting close to her teammates. Along the way, she slung her Rifle over her shoulder and just switched to her side-arm, not expecting anymore long-range combat. But even then, her side-arm can fire pretty far itself. Making her way to the base, granted it took some time, Princeton was happy to be reunited with her team, after spending much time being separated from them and having to play 'One-Woman Army'. Upon reuniting with her team, she holstered her side-arm, this time looking to rely on her augmentations. "This is Sigma Sniper. I've regrouped with Sigma Five. Requesting further orders." She said via wireless communication as she looked at Zurgus.

1800 hours, Five days after drop. Location, FOB in the Arctic Region, 20km from Shiv Ruins....

The past five days had been hell for the stranded forces, as they hunted and persued the Talakan threat towards the northern regions of Noctis. Silently, the rallied forces of the Confederacy prepared for their primary objective, the assualt on the entrenched invaders. Of course Marius and the rest of sigma had seperate orders. To the east of the ancient Shiv compound was an abandoned mine, that lead directly to the facility. Chances were it would be lightly guarded when the Main force attacked from the front. At least that was the plan. Once inside, Sigma would infiltrate and capture a Bishop, one of the high ranking commanders of the Talakan command structure. If that could not be accomplished, they were to gather what data they could and destroy the facility.

Flexing his new prosthetic, the major watched as the bio-alloy moved with the precision of his original limb. Due to the micro-shrapnel from the Talakan weapon, the crystals had destroyed the arm, the only thing holding it together being the copious amounts of bio-gel and pain killers. Tearing his gaze away from the medical marvel, he mentally prepared himself for the mission that would most likely end in the lives of many Confederate soldiers. The wind was howling as it started to kick up a blizzard. "Seemed the gods of war were on our side after all" the Major mused switching his visor to thermal imaging.

Zurgus folded up the thin thermal sheet he had been using as a bed for the last five days and stored it in his pack. He had just woken up after a particularly long guard shift. A few items lay on the ground next to him in the small tent that he Lebowski and Riktor had been sharing. The tent was supposed to be for two but most of their supplies never made it planet side so everyone had to share. They were fortunate that the its was procedure to drop rations and water purification kits first after soldiers. They were however comically low on heavy ordnance, medical supplies and communication equipment. Zurgus stood and hoisted his pack over his shoulder and stepped out of the tent. He walked over to the quartermasters tent and handed in his pack and retrieved some ammo. He would collect his gear after the battle was over. He put on his helmet, switched his visor to thermals and looked around for other members of Sigma Squad but the only one he could see was the major looking in the direction of there objective. He walked over to him and saluted. "Reporting for duty sir."
