The Story So Far
Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

You arrive at the Rosewind Tavern, if you have accepted the letter. Once there, a bar maid serves you any food or beverage you would like. The bar seems relatively quiet, though a few drunks sit in the corner gambling. The bar maid seems to be one of two employees on. The other looks like the Tavern owner. Both are of elven decent, though its hard to see through their hair.

They had opened this tavern centuries ago. So it was well known who they were to the locals. Normally the mostly human village didn't like outsiders. Especially elves. But these two had just kept to themselves, and created a tavern for the town and the surrounding area could relax. They were strong enough too, to throw out any riff raff that came along. So it was a nice, peaceful place.

As you look around, you see a solid wooden stair case leading to what is obviously rentable rooms upstairs. The loft hanging above the bar. The bard is playing light and quiet music in the corner. Not wanting to disturb the few guests. It is clear he is a novice, but he can carry a note. So many didn't mind him. You notice at the bar they have any of the top shelf spirits you wish, and the barrels of mead and ale seem plentiful. The fire place is roaring on the far side wall. Crackling, keeping the place a nice toasty warm. It was very inviting.

Chapter 2: A Shift Happens

The door of the Inn opens and in comes a cloaked man. It seems to have started storming outside, and he was drenched. Still he didn't show his face, but sat down in the dark corner and watched from under his hood. It seems like he is known to the Inn as they bring him a drink and set it in front of him. No order needed. However an aura comes from the cloak, that hints at something far different than a simple traveller. Perhaps this is the man that hired you?

The wind starts to pick up outside, making the windows shake a little. It was clearly too stormy to leave, and all would have to rent a room, or sleep in the stables. Something about this feels off, eerie. As if the weather isn't natural but a sign of whats to come. Lightning slashes through the sky, illuminating dark figures out in the streets. Until they disappeared, as if they were just figments of the imagination. Maybe there is more to this quest than you thought.

All the while, the tavern owner and the waitress kept working. Not at all disturbed by the rather abrupt weather change. Those with magic can now sense that the inn is shifting somewhere else. Its a small pocket dimension. Just to exist with the inn and town in it alone. Though the people who are citizens of the town have disappeared. Leaving only our hero's, the bartenders and the man in the cloak. The windows start to black out, and they were locked inside the Inn.

Emerald walked up to the door of the tavern. She had spent the last two weeks going back and forth on taking this quest. She wasn't even suppose to be out of the monastery. She wasn't ever going to be a monk, but they had raised her. She was abandoned by her family, who thought she was cursed. She had been born to a Shadow born. A cursed being. Well she was glad that she hadn't grown up as some pathetic farmers daughter.

And now she was free of the suffocating monastery. She hardly knew anything of the world, and she planned to see it. But sneaking out, that would get her in so much trouble if they caught her. She had to plan it very carefully. In fact, she hadn't been sure where that note had come from. That had led to even more confusion.

Getting herself out of her thoughts, she walked into the tavern. The smoke was almost too thick. The smell of stale ale, and old vomit from the floor made her gag. This was how the normal people lived? This was disgusting. Shuddering a little, as the monks had distilled a love of sanitation, she sat down. Wondering where to meet the mysterious stranger. She was a little early it seemed, as the Inn was almost empty.

"May I have a glass of water? And what is your menu? What other adventurers had come here?"

She asked the bar maid. She shook her head. "I'll get ya a special, and water. None yet, don' know what ya talkin bout." She said simply. Going to the kitchens

Rhyse looked at his Dragon Snake, who seemed to be aggitated, as he entered the Inn.

” What is the matter now Ember?”

He whispered to her, petting her head. He had felt it too. The shadow born. The cursed ones. Some that could become the greatest evil in the world. Though most stories seemed to be exaggerated. He had yet to meet one he couldn't take on. At least during the daylight. From the words she spoke, he immediately knew she was different from the others of her kind. She seemed so naive.

”So someone with such little experience got invited? Maybe this won't be my next challenge”

He boasted as he sat down, laughing a little at the womans sudden look. He had been an adventurer for almost 10 years. A mercenary with a reputation of completing the work. Well now maybe he could have a vacation. Escorting this little girl, and her new friend would be the easiest 1000g he had ever earned. Some people just didn't know the value of a mission. Speaking of missions.

”Either of you see the person who summoned us on what I can only guess is a stroll in the park, with the two of you sitting here. I expected to see some other highly famed hero's. But I would be wrong it would seem. Oh well, I am always in need of a rest. Purhaps this mission will be just that.”

He laughed, though he never lifted his eyes fully away from the Shadow One. She was dangerous, until he knew more about her. She would be the first to fall or first to turn on them, he was almost sure.

Danica Fallen Angel...

Danica looked around the fallen city of angels that she was bound to. Trapped to. She had been here for thousands of years, bound to the abandoned city. She watched as Nature took over the outskirts, but the dark magic scarring the centre of the city kept all life away from it. In a different life, under a different name, Danica was an angel at one time. She would defend anyone around her, and followed the path of Order. However, as the years went on and betrayal came into the picture, she turned to the goddess of Chaos. Lady Zystras. Her own mother.

Danica had helped take down the city of angels, but it came with a cost. Lady Zystras was bound into the city, and she was forced to protect the ruins. She couldn't leave the city's border. She still is loyal to Lady Zystras. As such, she has fed her souls of those unfortunately enough to cross the borders into the inner city. Soon Zystras would be free, she could feel it. Danica knew that her own power was growing, so Zystras's power was growing. She knew that Zystras had been corrupting the animals of the forest that these ruins were buried deep within. She made sure they would attack any settlements on the outskirts.

She was able to start corrupting humans into joining a cult of hers. Selling their souls to her. Giving her more power. Things were going from good to bad in a heartbeat. Dannica was living for it. She could feel the binds on the ruins starting to crumble. It would be awhile yet, but it was in the future. She would be happy to leave these ruins for the first time in ten thousand years.

.......Daughter of Chaos.

Temotamiku and her twin Shikimiriki stood infront of the tavern, looking at the door. They recieved the letter about an hour ago and decided to check it out out of curiosity. Shiki hadn't been at said Inn yet, which was strange by his part, having been a regular at all taverns and bars he knew. It was reccomended by a friend of his, but he didn't expect visiting it so soon. Temota was just known to punch and drag her twin out of the taverns, which was why some people at the bars respected her. She never heard of this one.

They both took a deep breath before going in. The place was overall nice, with the bard playing music and the calmness made it worth checking out. They both took a seat and ordered their foods

"Can I have some juice and rabbit stew, please?" Temota said, letting down her hood.

"I want anything you've made, beautiful" Shiki winked. The glare his twin sent him made him change his words.

"Some beer and rabbit stew too please" He said in a rather hushed voice, still being charming at the same time somehow.

Emerald was eating her soup and minding her own buisness when the doors opened a curious pair came in. She felt Shade tense, but lightly kicked him to tell him to knock it off. She didn't want to offend anyone who might have handed out this quest. She watched the two, and decided to go over. At the very least, perhaps they could tell her more of this town. She took her bowl and water over to where they sat.

"May I sit?"

She asked politely. Her shadow familiar was now only the size of a small kitty. Emerald had made sure that he wouldn't be in his true form, or even his large cat form. She didn't want to scare the townsfolk. She was already getting looks as it was, because of the pale skin, and the shadows seemed to pull in and around her. Almost like they were breathing. It was just what happened around her, especially at night. She couldn't help it.

"I am Emerald by the way! I am here because I was told to meet someone. Perhaps you were given the same letter?"

She asked, bringing out the letter. She was naive to the world. She hadn't seen how bad people could be. Sure she had seen some of it, but believed most to be good. Plus she wanted to prove to the kingdom that not all Shadowborn end up evil. She would be a good one. Saving innocents, and being adored. Instead of people holding their children away as she walked through town. Elders shaking their canes as if to defend themselves. And being followed by a guard until she got to the tavern. In the tavern, she had a bit of a better experience. Though not by much. She could feel the odd stares around her. She had felt the stare of what seemed to be an elf. She felt it intensify as she moved over to the new table. She didn't like it. She felt scared that this man would attack her. Or worse.

Temota and Shiki were already eating their food until one of the guests came over. Temota glanced at them with an annoyed look clearly not pleased with the interruption. Shiki, however, was delighted. A girl!. Temota raised a brow. Who was she?. The annoyance in her eyes were replaced with interest. Was she the person who sent the letter?

"Sure, you can sit with us" She said, eyeing her stew

"Yeah,, best sit next to me" Shiki winked and pat the seat adjacent to him, making his twin roll her eyes.

They both listened carefully to her introduction

"Oh..Nice to meet you, Emerald. You recieved a letter too?" Temota asked

"A beautiful name fit for an equally beautiful lady. I'm Shikimiriki, but you can call me anything you want, darling" Shiki smiled and winked once again, to the annoyance of his twin sister

Emerald smiled as she sat down beside them. Glad to be accepted, at least for now. She sat next to the man, putting her things down before answering them. Shade jumped off her shoulder and went under the table. He shifted to his panther sized form before resting his head on his paws. Emerald nudged him to shift back, to no avail. So she paid attention to the other two.

”I did. I wasn't sure how. I have never left my home before. I couldn't resist an adventure. Though now I am not sure.”

She looked around again, and found the young man still glaring daggers at her. She shifted in her seat when he got up and walked over. He sat down with his things, without even asking.

”Wow I never thought I would find such a naive cursed being. You Shadowborn are nothing but spawns of evil. Why not go and return to your home? Oh I bet you killed them all.”

His words made Emeralds stomache sink. This was what she had encountered from outsiders at the monastery. On her journey here, she had been given the cold shoulder by everyone. No Inn let her stay, no place would sell her food. Until she got here. Luckily she had been taught how to hunt. She felt a blush of shame cover her face for a moment.

”I didn't do anything to you or them.”

She snapped, tears on the edge of her eyes. She was so annoyed now. She felt Shade growling under the table. Warning the man off. The elf didn't listen. Instead he continued to eat. Not caring that he hadn't been invited. Emerald decided that she would just ignore his words and turned to the twins.

”Shikimiriki is a beautiful name.”

She said as she continued to eat in between their discussion.

Temota seemed satisfied and somewhat curious of her answer. She just nodded, looking back at her food. The twins somewhat tensed then they noticed there was a panther right below their table. Where was the kitty?. Temota narrowed her eyes at the uninvited elf and they narrowed even more at their words

"Look, I don't know who you are, sitting here uninvited and insulting other people but you better-Hmph!?" The rest of Temota's words were never known, since her twin leaned over her and covered her mouth with his hand

"Sorry! She just had a really bad day" He said, smiling apologetically. He looked at Emerald in concern, seeing as she was embarrassed. His worried face suddenly twisted into one of pain, and pulled back his hand which his twin had bitten

"You didn't have to do that!" He hissed, holding his hand.

Temota turned back to the elf and glared at him before sighing and looking at emerald with what could be a mix of worry and understanding before shifting some and glancing under the table with a raised brow

"Shh, don't be loud unless you want to get kicked out" She whispered to it.

Shiki stopped holding his hand when he heard the compliment and forgot the pain.

"Aw, my name isn't as beautiful as you though" He smiled.

”Well, I heard you talking about the letter you recieved. You two look capable, however”

Rhyse responded with a sneer to Emerald. ”I don't think we should have to babysit.”

He added. Emerald was starting to lose her temper, this man was nothing but rude. She hadn't done anything to him. Besides, if she didn't react, Shade would. That would end up getting them kicked out. She didn't want to cause them to get kicked out. Not when they may go for this incredible adventure.

”Look, I don't know who you are. But leave me the hell alone. You don't know anything about me”

She snapped. As her anger grew, the shadows in the tavern seemed to fly around her, spinning. She was starting to lose control of her abilities. She was tired of this type of attitude from people. She didn't hurt anyone. She was a kind person. But no, because of what she was, she was treated like a villian. She looked at the twins, trying to take a deep breath.

”Your not worth it”

She snapped at the elf before turning back to her new friends.

”I appologize. This isn't new to me. Your sweet Shiki.”

She blushed hearing his words. She tried to control the shadows, and release them. However, her temper was about to snap. Suddenly the shadows pushed Rhyse off the bench and hit the ground. He landed on his back. He quickly jumped to his feet and grabbed Emerald by the arm.

”You dare attack me? You are nothing. You cursed beings do nothing but kill.”

He yanked her to her feet, and she stumbled. She tried to pull her arm out of her grasp. All the while trying to keep Shade from attacking him. She felt her arm being squeezed enough it would probably bruise. Suddenly she felt herself flying across the floor of the tavern, landing near the bard. Suddenly everything stopped. As if it was the calm before the storm.

Temota looked at the pair with a raised eyebrow. If they were going to have this 'adventure' then their constant arguing would definetly not benefit them. She held back a growl, this elf was getting on her nerves. If he kept that up they would be kicked out. Shiki was also tensed. He knew about Rhyse, his reputation and his deeds since they were common stories at the taverns, but he didn't know he was rude or mean.

"It's noticable" Temota said, nodding

"Well, I am made of sugar, wanna taste it later?" Shiki winked, making his twin facepalm

They both tensed when the elf suddenly fell. They both sensed a fight and they weren't wrong.

Temota was quick and nimbe, and ran to Rhyse, she swung her leg below his, tripping him and pointed an arrow at his neck

"Don't you know angering a random stranger is rude?" She said slyly.

Shiki ran to Emerald and lifted her up

"Are you alright?" He asked, concern

The calmness took them both by surprise and made Temota lower her guard

A young girl walked into the tavern. There was something off about her- perhaps it was her striking red hair, or her creepily pale skin, or the fact that her flesh was rotting off her bones. Who could say for sure? The undead looked at the mayhem, gathering dark energy in her palms. "Gentleman. Lady. I don't know what in the Inferno your problem is, but I suggest you cease immediately. Otherwise, I will have to restrain you forcefully- I've seen enough of violence, on both sides of the Veil.

Your choice."

”You guys don't know what your getting into. This Shadow Born will be the death of all of us.”

He scowled, before rolling back from the arrow at his neck. He realized he wouldn't get anywhere with these two. He decided to take his snake from the fire place, and went upstairs to the room he rented. Without saying anything else. He would come back down later. If he decided to take this quest. With a Shadow Born, the quest may not be worth the thousand gold. However, if he could ensure that she didn't make it? He hated shadow born. They had killed his family, and destroyed his village. They were cruel beings. He didn't trust this naive one. If she wasn't evil yet, she would become evil. The shadows corrupt all. He didn't even give the new girl a glance before he had gone upstairs.

Meanwhile,

Emerald looked up to see someone coming in. She could feel the energy moving, and quickly bowed her head. She didn't want any trouble. She was here for an adventure. She looked at the twins.

”Thank you.”

She turned back to the new girl.

”I am sorry you had to walk into that. I won't continue any attacks. I don't want to hurt others.”

She said shyly, sitting back down. Her head was down, trying to stop the tears. She was so tired of being the outsider. The evil thing to fear. She wanted to show them, she wasn't evil. She didn't want to kill or hurt anyone. She just wanted to see the world. She felt Shade shift to the small cat and jump on her lap. Purring in an attempt to comfort her. She tried to control the tears, before wiping them away and looking back up.
"I am Emerald by the way"
She introduced herself to the new young woman.

Temota put the arrow back on it's quiver while Rhyse rolled away. She watched as he climbed up the stairs and sighed. She nodded at Emerald and look at the new girl. She raised a brow. Was she a necromacer or something?. She walked over to Shiki and Emerald, patting her on the shoulder in an attempt to calm her down. And she saw the cat. There it was!

"Don't mention it" Shiki smiled before looking at the newcomer. Her appearance and the dark magic made him tense
"Err..Hello?" He said in an attempt at a greeting

The undead did a passable curtsy. "Rebecca Van Zant. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Emerald. I see you have knowledge of shadowmancy- I know something of the Art myself. Perhaps we can stop and compare our skills?"

She then turned to the other pair. "Don't worry, I won't do anything to you. I'm not that kind of necromancer. Now, if someone could bring me some spicewine, that would be absolutely lovely."

Emerald looked up at Shiki with a small smile. He seemed to be really sweet. She wasn't use to being flirted with, and she was falling into that trap. She was still as naive as a child when it came to romance and the world. The Monastry had couples and such. However, no one wanted to be tainted by the Shadow born. She was tolerated by her age group. The older monks treated her well. She just felt out of place all her life. Which isn't getting better tonight.

”Yes I do know some Shadow Magick. Its nice to meet you.”

She let Shade jump off her lap. He ran up to the new girl, sniffing her before sneezing. When he sneezed all of a suddenly he was in his full form. A large panther like creature, with large black furred wings, a large tail with a spiked ball on the end, and claws that could rip you to shreds. Emerald paled.

”Shade, what the hell”

She snapped, and the creature look at them and bowed his head. Before doing something he had never done with people around. He spoke.

”Sorry Mera. I don't know what happened.”

The large creature looked around at everyone. He bowed his head to the twins, as if to say they had his respect. Then his eyes landed on the Necromancer. The rotting girl in front of him.

”It happened when I got close to you. How were you able to pull me out of my other forms?”

Emerald was starting to go red as other patrons were watching. Some with a curious look, others with horror on their faces. The poor waitress was hiding behind the bar. She didn't want to scare everyone.

”Shade, your scaring everyone. Please just return to your other size. Please?”

She begged him as a couple of the rougher patrons had their weapons out and on the table. Almost threatening to attack, should the thing come near them. Emerald didn't want to see him hurt. Not that he could die forever. But last time it happened, it ripped a part of her self away for months before she could summon him back from the shadow realm. She didn't want to do it again.

(I stopped formatting because its easier to write my characters with colors. Rhyse is red, Danica is blue and Emerald aka Mera, is purple.

The twins relaxed, their tension leaving them. She was probably another person sent here because of the letter.
Temota raised a brow. Shadowmacy? As in controlling shadows.. It made sense.

Shiki smiled back. He enjoyed flirting and Emerald was one of the very few girls that didn't slap him or tell him off.

The twins took a few steps back in surprise when the cat turned into a panther. They both nodded back at it, but their reactions were different as it spoke.
Temota was watching in interest while Shiki was gaping in surprise. Temota walked to Shade and stood infront of him defensively

"No one touches the big cat until I or she says so" Temota said sternly and in an intimidating manner, gesturing at Emerald. Her blue eyes glaring at the people with the weapons, daring them to touch their weapons

A tall, green-eyed man, tan and clothed in teal and gold, pushed the door open slowly, his eyes darting around the room for something- or someone- amiss. The small patched rat on his shoulder gazed unblinkingly at the fire with small, beady eyes as he navigated to a table next to a wall and sat up against it. He politely declined the food and leant on his hand, casting lazy eyes over the fight that seemed to be brewing. He straightened out the white tunic he wore and raised an eyebrow at everyone's antics.

Shiki saw another newcomer and wondered how many people recieved the same letter. He watched his twin with amusement. She was using the same look he got used to hen he got drunk. Sending a small wave to the newcomer, Shiki continued to watch, curious of what would enfold.

Rebecca was taken aback by the true nature of Emerald's pet. "It must have been quite a feat to bind such a spirit, something to truly be proud of. I'm impressed, Lady Emerald." The necromancer bowed deeply in respect for the other witch's skill. As her drink was brought to her, she took a seat and started sipping. Unfortunately, she must have had some new rot in her throat, because her neck started to leak. "Ah, dammit. I should have checked that. Oh, well." She turned to the other patrons. "How about we all get to know each other? I'll tell you my story if you tell me yours."

Arrow's eyes darted up, analyzing the... zombie...? Well, he'd certainly never seen one of those. "Ah, but my story is far too long for such a short time," intoned he dramatically, a wide smile- more like a smirk than anything- making its way onto his face. He leant back in his chair and pretended to examine his nails. "Far too filled with dastardly deeds for such fair maidens! And men," he added, glancing around. "The blonde especially- you, with the snake." He pointed to Rhyse and winked. "Do feel free to, ah, shall we say... contact me?"

Emerald smiled at the Necromancer.
"No such feat. Shade was born with me. Shadow born have a shadow familiar. It is what escorts them in the shadow realm and protects us in this one. They grow as we grow. "
She explained before looking up to see another person enter. She hadn't even noticed that Rhyse had come back down. She was too intrigued by the other patrons. She looked at the twins with a huge smile as they defended Shade. Who slowly went back to his small form, and jumped on her shoulders.
"Thank you, no one looks out for us usually. Most believe all Shadow Born are evil. Full stop."
She sighed, nodding her head towards Rhyse, who had come down and sat by the fire. Glaring at her until someone motioned to him.

Rhyse raised an eyebrow and smirked. Well well, this might be an interesting quest after all. Even if he had to deal with a shadow born. Perhaps she was weak now, and killing her should she show her true self, well it shouldn't be that hard. With that thought out of the way, he ignored the other four in favor for Arrow.
"I do feel free to do such things" Rhyse said with a smile.

Sorry so shitty guys....writers block atm

Shiki had joined other by the table and listened to their stories with interest. Well at Emeralds. He felt sorry for her.He didin't know anything about Shadowborn. Temota came to join them too not before giving the violent guests one last warning glare, and nodded to Rhyse and the new patron in greeting before sitting down. She heard enough to understand what was going on but she looked like she didn't care

"So my twin sister and I are travelers, we've been to many places now and we're good at surviving in the wild. We escort caravans and stop bandits, that kind of stuff. She's an archer and I'm a swordsman" Shiki said, smiling.

Temota said nothing but looked around. After the commotion they all caused, where was the main person they were here for?

"Stops bandits, eh?" He withdrew a small ring knife from his coat, twirling it around his finger and totally not dropping it because he was trying to look cool. "Well, that's a bit inconvenient, but I'm sure we can make it work. Whaddya say, chief, have some mercy for your local thief extraordinaire?" Arrow grinned and glanced around the room. "I'm certainly good enough at scaling walls. It's honest work, y'know?"

Shiki was surprised. A thief within them. Temota raised a brow and looked at the knife. The sight of the blade made her uneasy.
"Er..Well..I guess?" He said, somewhat confused "You aren't going to...Steal anything, are you?" He asked, looking at the small finger-knife-twirling spectacle
