Nikki sighed with relief, glancing at her box-filled room. Finally done with bringing everything over! She didn’t bring many belongings, but, of the ones she did being, most were houseplants. Nix debated beginning the long process of unpacking as well, but decided against it. There was plenty of time to get unpacked later in the day. Besides, she wanted to be ready to meet her roommates! She had to befriend them sooner or later, or, at least, she wanted to if she was going to have to live with them for who knows how long.
Yawning, and pushing past the chocolate brown door of her room, she headed to the kitchen, which took up most of the space that wasn’t dedicated to bedrooms, aside from the bathroom, that is. Some might call the kitchen cozy. Others would call it cramped. Personally, Nix thought it was pretty neat, but the bland cream colored walls definitely needed some decorations. Or just plants. Either way.
She sighed, flopping facedown onto the fluffy brown carpet out of boredom.

Jesse Slater. 21.

When she arrived, she didn’t know what to expect, after all it was a new place, and she was living with complete strangers. Jesse looked around the room. It was a fairly average place, bland walls, bland place, bland people. She saw one of her new roommates in the kitchen, a young woman her own age, but the redhead didn’t bother to say hi. She just walked into the nearest room and dumped her stuff there. She didn’t have much stuff or any personal items, just clothes and some food. So it didn’t take long for her to “unpack”. She then walked back into the box-filled living room.

“So you my new roommate?” She said to no one in particular.

Nikki popped upward off of the carpet, blushing faintly. She glanced in the direction the voice came from, hastily shoving her sky blue hair behind her shoulder in an attempt to tame the frizz. “Oh, uh, yeah! I’m Nikki, but you can call me Nix.“ She paused for a second, “Ah... you?”

“Jesse, you can just call me Jesse.”
Even she could hear the bored inflection in her voice. Oh, how she needed a drink right now. It would definitely liven up her day. “So, is it just us girls? Or is there more?”
It would be extremely jading if it were just the two of them. Then again life was boring. You eat, drink, shit, get a job, get a family, pay taxes and then die. That was around it. They were just faces among faces, a speck in the wheel of life or some other poetic shit like that. She had long since given up on being even remotely important in life. But she didn’t say anything like that. Not to a stranger.
“Nice place,” she said instead, feigning interest as she looked around. Yep, an normal bland apartment filled with normal bland people. The girl, Nix, at least had the sense of spicing things up a bit with her dyes, even if she did look like a rebellious delinquent. “Nice hair, you do it yourself?” A compliment wouldn’t hurt.

Dreux-22 Years-Tagged: None

Is this it? Doesn’t look any different from any other home. Don’t even know why...

The thoughts vanished like a whisper of wind, one second there and then gone. His gaze faced the window from where he sat on the window seat, a cool breeze blowing into the room though was nothing compared to the Andes or the jungles of the Amazon. A few boxes were scattered about the room, the only things he had collected over two years when trying to recover. Even now, Dreux still suffered, the figure reaching around himself to retrieve the cane leaning against the wall as he unfolded his knees and stretched his legs.

Since coming to the house, a place divided into several bedrooms an hour earlier, Dreux hadn’t left the room he’d been given though he didn’t know how he had been given such an opportunity. His boxes remained unpacked, the belongings within needing put away. Dreux used the wall to carefully push himself up, his back cracking as he stood. His good eye...his only eye...focused on the door as he began limping towards it.

Might as well investigate the place.

The man that entered the room was stunning to stay the least, strong jaw, locks of dark unruly hair, tall, tan skin. He had the looks of one of those macho men from those erotica. It took her a second to register him in his entirety, caught off guard by his handsomeness. Had she been a lesser more love-seeking girl, her heart would have fluttered in her chest, her breath would have caught and her soul would have cried out in longing, and she probably would have tripped on something adorably where her inner goddess (excuse me while I barf internally) jumped for joy. Instead she just looked at him as he entered, her heart still and her insides utterly unflustered. Hell, just thinking that way made her insides vomit.
“Ah hello, didn’t notice ya,” she said, “you must be the other roommate.” Now that the moment of girly infatuation was over, she could take in details about him, the cane, the way he limped, the eye patch that made him kind of look like a pirate. No doubt he noticed her eyes taking him in. She didn’t f***king care! They were going to be roommates, might as well get used to each other. “The name’s Jesse by the way.”

Nikki grinned. So her new roommate seemed a bit... serious. Oh well! She would break through that tired exterior eventually!
“Nice to meet cha, Jesse.” She grinned from her place on the rug, as she moved into a cross-legged sit. “There’s three more besides us, I think.” She said, shrugging nonchalantly. “Not sure if they’re all girls though. Probably not.”
She paused at the dye question, before once again shrugging. “Nah, I’m not nearly that skilled with dyes. I got it at a barber’s a few blocks down from my old dorm.”
Nix was quickly distracted by the new guy. “Hi! I’m Nix!”

It didn’t take long for Dreux to reach the stairs, only to catch sight of his appearance in a mirror and head back to his room. Shifting through the smallest box, he pulled something out and headed back out, slipping the object over his right eye and adjusting it via the mirror. Turning towards the stairs, he made his way down them, using the railing for balance as his cane hit every other step in front of him. Reaching the bottom, voices reached his ears, people coming into view.

Two women stood before him, well one day on the floor, their conversation falling silent as he entered. It was likely due to his looks or so he had been told. Something he expected to happen and had grown used to, though they would likely be more unsettled, like everyone else, had he chosen to continue without the eyepatch upon seeing the crude work scar around his right eye. An eye that, should the stitches ever be undone, would show only an empty socket.

The one man stared at him for the longest time, even as the other continued chatting until she turned and noticed him as well. An imperceptible nod was the one lady’s answer as she broke the silence, stating he was the other roommate. “One of them.” When she introduced herself, followed by the lady on the floor, Dreux made his way away from the betting of the stairs, venturing further into the room. “Dreux.”

“Nice name.” She said. Fits your looks. No doubt he had baggage, with his limp and eye patch. Most of the men did. Even the ones she’s been with had some sort of tragic tale that they would divulge to her as if she were a secret keeper. She heard it all, abuse, sexual assault, etc, etc. Let’s not think about that. This is a fresh start, no need to dwell on the past. She didn’t really like attachment that much, it made her feel uncomfortable if not vurnerable so she avoided it as best she could. Which is why almost everyone thought she was cold or too serious. She folded her arms, her fingers twitching for a flask, she almost instinctively went for it only to stop herself at the last minute. There was no flask and she knew it. But not having one in her hand made her twitchy. She smiled a bit, and sat down, nothing much to do now except the oligitary meet and greet. She wondered how long until they were at each other’s throats. She gave it a week.

It seemed as if everyone had gone uncomfortably silent, even awkwardly silent. Jesse didn’t know how to break the silence, she didn’t know any of these people.
“So,” she finally said, “how did you all come here?” Might as start something. Break the ice as it were.

Dreux ambled slowly into the kitchen until he reached the table, his eye focusing solely on Jesse as he pulled out a chair and seated himself. Giving a shrug in response to her compliment. “Do not know. Get note saying this address and there was room...to make the most of it.”

“I figured as much,” Jesse said, flicking her red hair away from her face, training her eyes on Dreux. “I too got the same note. Blah blah blah. Space available. Blah blah blah. Take advantage of this opportunity. Seems like a pretty normal place. Not sure what’s so special about it.”
(Like how we’re collaboratively setting up the reveal of the book.)

Andres, having woken up late, was nervous about being the last one at the new place. Stress dreams from the previous night kept him worrying -- he knew many of his new roommates would be younger than him and he didn't want to start off with a bad impression by being late. Looking at his watch as the bus slowed to a stop, Andres tapped his left foot anxiously. He bolted out of his seat when the bus finally stopped.

"So this is it, huh," Andres mumbled to himself as he pulled his small luggage behind him toward the apartment building. It was just like any other apartment around this area, leaving much to be desired. But it was a safe community, he had made sure of that before he moved in. Biting his bottom lip, Andres went inside the building and went to the stairs to pull his stuff up.

When Andres got to the door, he knocked politely before letting himself in. He was sure he wasn't the first in so he didn't want to frighten anyone already inside. "Hello? Are people here already?"

Nikki stayed silent as her other two roommates conversed, unsure of what exactly to say. Fortunately, she was interupted by a lnock at the door, and an unfamiliar voice asking, “Hello? Are people here already?”
Nix glanced over to the doorway just as yet another roommate entered. “Hi! I’m Nikki! Call me Nix!” She chirped.

Jesse heard the knock and immediately went to open the door. Upon seeing Andre enter, the fiery redhead took a moment to take him in, before stating rather bluntly, “roommate? I assume so.” She made a grand scarastic guesture toward the box-filled living room. “Welcome to your new abode.” She stated as she walked away. “The name’s Jesse.”

Dreux set his cane between his legs as he listened to the women talk, Jesse speaking of getting the same letter he had got which gave him this opportunity. A knock sounded on the door after an uncomfortable amount of silence, Jesse heading to the door and opening it to reveal a new person standing there, another man, when Dreux turned his head. Another room mate.

Great, another roommate, Jesse thought as she walked away, well it's just to be expected.
She never had much luck with roommates, they were either stone-cold bitches or whiney boys pretending to be men, one of the two. These men seemed nice though, and Jesse suspected that they might get along. If only as a mutual aquantance. Besides, she didn't plan to stay for long anyway. She was a drifter for a reason. With that thought in mind, she headed to her room, where she had just dumped her stuff and began to finish unpacking.
Yet another bland apartment with perfectly mundane people leading utterly insufficent lives, she thought as she unpacked each one of her clothes and personal effects, as few items that she had.

Dreux got up and headed around the house, inspecting the living room and the back garden before heading back upstairs to his room. Shutting the door behind him, he limped over to one of the boxes and set about unpacking.

Thirty minutes later.

Now that everything was offically unpacked, Jesse just stood there, looking at the room. A prevaliant silence has enveloped the place, a silence so daunting that it was almost severely thick enough to puncture with a finger. She lays on the bed and just stares at the ceiling. Three roommates, she thought, three roommates, two men, two women. If this weren't the real world, I would have sworn this was the beginning of a sitcom. Sighing, she walked out of the room and into the back garden.

It took him around half an hour to an hour to put his things away. Some stuff was heavy and with his limp it made things difficult but when he was done the boxes were stacked in the walk-in closet and he had retired to his bed. His cane rested against the wall as he lay there, staring up at the ceiling. Reaching up, he removed the eye patch andventelly massaged the area around his missing eye.
