Other Roleplay Pet peeves

Something that has been irritating me recently is the transactional nature surrounding doubling, and how structured it feels. I am fine with playing multiple characters -- in fact, I prefer it in some situations. But having everything be framed as a deal -- you play my love interest, I play yours, even if we don't really like the character -- feels icky, for lack of a better word. Especially because I'm not always seeking romantical roleplays. A lot of the time, I prefer something platonic. So the assumption they playing multiple characters is always doubling, and it's always romantic, irritates me. Especially when it's for a fandom and people want to do OC x CC for both sides.

I just wish everything wasn't so narrow and specific all of the time.

I dunno if anyone else has mentioned this but it's always been a pet peeve of mine. When people say they don't talk to minors for "legal reasons". Now granted I only know of the cyber laws in my state but from what I can tell they fall into two main categories.

1. Online Bullying
2. Distributing Sexual Content About / To Minors

Both of which are also against the site rules.

So for anyone going around thinking that they can be arrested for talking to a child under eighteen online I would recommend looking up the cyber laws in your location. Specifically if they you can be prosecuted based on your specific location or the location of where the website is hosted. As that is something that varies from what I can tell. And what they cover specifically because for the most part it's not just "I talked to a kid about making a roleplay". You have to be doing specifically harmful behavior in order for the law to get involved.

Also look at the Site Rules because a lot of the things your worried about are already going to be banned from this specific website specifically because the people running it don't want legal problems. As this website is meant to be safe to use for anyone 13+ so they have rules in place to protect children already.

Now it's one thing to be worried about awkward conversations or parents freaking out, that's fine. But that isn't the same as being like "I could face legal issues". Because if your writing stuff that could get you put in jail your more than likely breaking the site rules anyway. And also you have no way of knowing the person who is claiming to be an adult is actually one. So you could get in trouble anyway because a child pretended to be an adult to cover the content. So I would just steer clear of touchy subjects in their entirety and then you don't have to stress.

If someone reaches out to me and says they think we would mesh as partners, but when I ask you about your interests you continually dodge the question. I don’t understand this. How am I supposed to know what you’d like to do? I’m not a mind reader, unfortunately.

When your partner wants to only plot and care about their side of the story while ignoring yours and, if you push to have some light on your side, they begin to dislike the RP and want to go to something else. If this is something you do a lot, maybe you should be forward and say you're not into doubling.

"you must do 5 paragraths or your not wroth my time" like y. i do small reponses of one or 3 sentences i cant keep up with that.

when you get "you pick"ed when you said "pls pick your own stuff i dont want to do it for you"

One of my biggest pet peeves for role playing is one liners. There is nothing worse than pouring so much creative energy into a starter that you think is magnificent only to be met with "smells like a BBQ! Lol!"

Like I get it you don't have to match the length but it would be nice to be able to read something and have something to work with.

Another pet peeve of mine is making a character that cant do anything wrong, thinks everyone is supposed to love them and that they are gods greatest gift to the role play. Okay fine we all think our characters are the perfect creation but give them some flaws, let the character develop! I want to see your character get to the nitty gritty! I want some conflict to happen! I cant stand the flawless, my character is perfect in every way view.

So a pet peeve I have with application based roleplays is that they occasionally won't offer any sort of feedback of your character when you apply.

Now, I get that asking for anything in depth is a bit silly but my issue is that a lot won't even say anything when the character won't work for the roleplay. Whether that be that the character is too overpowered or if they just don't fit the vibe or whatever. You know, stuff that the people running the roleplay would be able to tell immediately that this character is going to be rejected.

I just don't see why people can't be given a chance to fix that sort of thing.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when the person I'm role playing control the actions of my character and does a complete take over other people's characters as well, it just drains the fun and causes me to be done with the rp for good.

I am once again coming here, dusting off my soap box, to remind you all...

Setting your font to the lowest possible size in insane color schemes for :bishiesparklesl: Aesthetic Reasons :bishiesparklesl: is all well and good but y'all need to have something, somewhere, for those of us who are visually impaired. I'm not pulling out my magnifying glass to see what you wrote. I'm not copying and pasting it into a google doc and adjusting the font so I can make out what you wrote. Just be mindful of us who would love to write with you but have to turn you don't because idk what you typed out.

This happened on another forum I frequent, but here's my contribution to the thread, haha.
  • Not reading a request thread in its entirety, and only going straight to the idea/plot.
  • Being given a fetish/kink/sexual list when you are NOT looking for that kind of RP.
  • Avoiding giving details about yourself as a role-player(but asking me to give details on how I RP even though it's in my request thread.)
  • Asking me to start off the RP when we didn't plan out anything.

[/LIST]

This happened in my early roleplay career. Back before I learned to recognize the behavior and nip it in the bud. This one lady fully asked me if I would be okay with writing a lesbian roleplay (fine) then proceeded to write a detailed kink about a character that wasn’t in the plot to begin with. Baring in mind I explicitly stated this was a PG13 roleplay based on children’s cartoons. So like read the room.

It's not related per-say to the specific practice of RP or anything I've encountered while RP'ing, but more or less site based and personal approach. But having come up generally in the incredibly niche approach of Nation Roleplaying/Nation Building I am continually perplexed by what seems to be a confusion as to what that is. If they're not turn based quasi-dice games which is at least a segment of NRP/NB then some of the other NRPs appear to basically be standard group RPs where as I've seen what I would consider NRPs in the group RP section. Basically: unless it's 1x1 or dice/table top games no one really seems to know where what goes.

This might just be because genre moderation is light. Or that NRP/NBRP is so niche that it doesn't matter where X or Y is relegated. But it's a little thing that bothers me sometimes

once had a GM on tumblr constantly bashing on the newbies.. when they advertised their RP as beginner friendly. Respectfully if you don’t want newcomers maybe don’t cater to them, Going with “experienced players only” is always an option😅 Might just be me though

This. This drives me up the wall. I don't mind starting if asked, but it makes me mad if we haven't plotted anything but I am expected to figure out a starting point. It’s worse if I ask to plot and I’m either told no, as the other person doesn't plot. Or they do the bare minimum or less.
