Robotech - The Invid War - IC

Mike looks over the map giving some thought to their approach. This was a fairly fresh unit against a new enemy. These bear men seemed to like their odds against the soldiers even without backup.

"The good folks here say they are capable of dealing with the soldiers, so I'll take their word for it. They know this enemy better than most of us. As for us, Orion, saddle up on your Cyclones. We have shock troopers to hunt. All of us. Make sure to keep eyes out for friendlies."

The lieutenant turned to the apparent leader of the bear men. "Keep in contact if you can. We'll provide backup if any surprises come your way."

Clear orders, little more to add. She's better in the air than on the ground, but her kind is made for war of all kinds - not being as proficient as some others will still be enough to crush a few bugs under her feet. "Understood; give me a moment, and I'll be ready to get in there." John got a headstart already, it seems; Jandra does her best to catch up. Getting the Cyclone out of the Alpha, going through all the preparation that's needed. Less familiar than she'd like, but a hunt is a hunt and she won't miss it.

John stands at the ready in his Nova, keeping watch for any signs of trouble as the others are getting their Cyclones ready.

As everyone is nearly done suiting up in their Cyclones, the one Bearman in here that's been talking to you gives a sudden start. "The Soldiers in the complex are on their way! They must know you are here somehow. You must hurry!"

Silanon

"Might have noticed our approach - either way, it makes finding them easier." One last check, a short nod as things seem to be to Jandra's liking. "Any actions against your people, or are the bugs only focused on us?"

Cyrus would speed up his attempts at getting his own Cyclone ready when the Bearman hurried the group. This would be a somewhat different experience for him, much more so than his work in his ship. he would be around 70% done with the process before he'd let his thoughts run a bit.
"I hope being a little green in this instance is not an issue.... Especially against the Invid out of a ship...."

"Could we not hold them off with our veritechs? Making then come to us?" Charlise suggested, despite her already getting her Cyclone ready.

"The Nova and Comet work best in space," she pointed out. "Forcing our hand inside the station might put us at a bit of a disadvantage."

From looking at the info delivered to you by the Karbarrans, you know that only the main complex of buildings have any generated gravity to them; the rest of the asteroid is very light compared to Earth at just .25 G. Given that, you know that the Cyclones will have no troubles at all. Heck, even though the Nova and the Comet are 'space' units, they work just fine in full gravity and atmosphere, too.

Jandra's knowledge of the Invid tells you that the Invid are probably tracking in on your power signature of your Protoculture engines of the Veritechs, so if you don't want to fight them inside the base, you'd better move.

Crebile tells you over the radio, "As I said before, the miners still inside the complex can deal with the four Soldiers. It is the Shock Troopers and the rest of the Soldiers in the mine shafts that are the trouble." The Bearman taps some sort of datapad, and a navigation path is lit up in your HUDs. "If you follow this path, it is the shortest route to the mine itself where many of our workers are under guard right now."

"Then that's where we should be headed, unless we are better off making our stance here, Lt. They might be sensing the Veritech - I did not think about it until now, but they can locate Protoculture tech from a good distance away. I do not know how exactly they do it, and how precise it is; but it was apparently enough to get them moving." A short moment of consideration. "If you ask me, there is no telling what the Invids will do once they face heavy resistance here. We might be better off being close to the civilians when the bugs realize they're in trouble."

Mike looks over the map as he speaks. "Sounds like a plan to me, let's get them out of there." He continues to scan over the passages leading that way. He attempts to gauge what patrol routes might look like, potential ambush and counter ambush movements might look like.

[Let us know if you want us to make any rolls for coming up with an ideal approach]

Now with everyone in their Cyclones and a plan in place, the six of you set out at a brisk pace through the complex for the entrance to the mine. Going through an airlock, you find yourselves outside the gravity generators' influence and you are once more in hard vacuum. Luckily for you, your CVR-3 armor has enough bottled air for many hours of space operations before you need to recharge your tanks.

At the opening of the mineshaft, you see several elevators, some for personnel that are easily large enough to accommodate all of you at once, and one much larger one that is obviously designed for hauling out the raw ore from the heart of the asteroid. Not that you really need to use an elevator; your Cyclones have flight jets on them that give you a much faster way of getting to the Invid in the center of the rock.

The shaft itself is a large pit measuring fifty feet wide and descending at least a couple of miles into the core of the asteroid.

Everyone with Detect Ambush or Detect Concealment, please give me a roll. If you do not have either one of those skills, make it a Perception roll at a -5.

While the squad is slowly flying down the main shaft of the mine, John spots a flash of light reflecting off of metal, then Cyrus spots it, too. It is just pure luck that you did catch sight of it, since it is still almost a thousand feet down below you. As you take a closer look, you both notice that there is a faint red glow, and you know that can't be just a shiny piece of rock.

Range to the light is now 800 feet and closing.

MrSaturnUL MrSaturnUL and Sherwood Sherwood , what do you do?

John hits the radio right away. "Rico here. I have a possible target, a flash of metal and a red light, six o'clock low, range 800 feet. Watch yourselves."

Cyrus does the same. "This is Adams, I confirm, I think they've been waiting."
Some red carpet this was....

With the warning given, there is no surprise when two Shock Troopers burst out from the rubble that has been piled up on the ledge. They had expected to ambush you, but you are now able to have your full defense against their attacks.

Initiative rolls, please! Don't forget, if you don't have MECT Cyclone, you only get your own, personal bonuses and not the ones from the Cyclone combat training.
