Raymond "Reirei" Kimura is the son of two Japanese immigrants to the United States. Wishing to give their child a "western" name, they named him Raymond, but due to familiarizing him with the pet name Reirei, that became the name Reirei goes by among friends and at school.

With a single working mom at home and a disadvantaged brother, Nova's learned fast to stand on her own and lead her own life. She's the one who came up with the idea of a road trip, as one last hurrah for her high school friends group.
