Purr Purr Trent wouldn't like the idea of sending a bunch of people back to our only ride off the island when the group knows nothing about them.... for all they know, the people could be hunters in disguise and sink the River Walker.... Trent votes to leave them where they are and tell them nothing about who we are, what we are doing, or where we came from....

O.K. At the risk of repeating myself...
So... with Gradicus approaching the refugees alone, and if all goes well with the meeting, is Gradicus going to recommend... (pick A, B, or C)
(underline mine)

I thought about that after I hit reply... I'll go back and add in a spoiler reaction to it, maybe tonight if i can find time.

Great! And if not tonight, no worries. We all have lives to live. =)

If Gradicus gets a good vibe from them, I would think that it could work to send them towards the coast with some encrypted radio codes and gear. Once we have our payday secured, we can then round them up and have a much shorter trip to get them to the ship and freedom.

Psychie gets it. I like this idea. =)

Well, there is one vote to possibly send the survivors to ride on the back of Blake's truck, and two votes to send them off towards the coast in the general direction of the River Walker. Silanon Silanon , still waiting to hear your voice, and Purr Purr , you have been somewhat mum on the subject. With these options and opinions being offered up, what do you want to do?

Yeah, sorry - the timing of Dann's post didn't go too well with my sleeping schedule... been sick the last few days (still am) and thus rather silent - especially after Trent's choice of words, Shaona's vote will certainly be B. I'll try to get an IC post up for that as well, should be doable in a few hours from now.

Short note - edited my post a bit, felt like it targeted Gradicus more than it should have.

Sherwood Sherwood And here I was thinking I was pretty clear about the whole thing. Guess not! =)

Here is what is going on in my head:
1. Post a vote in an attempt to get everyone's feelings on this.
2. Post in-character based on what everyone voted on. Boom-done! =)

As for being mum, don't you remember? I'm the player that first recommended sending the refugees to the boat, but that doesn't mean my opinion is right.

I just want everyone's opinion before I post and potentially change the course of our game. =)

i hope you feel better soon Silanon Silanon .

on a side note, i hadn't really thought of it before but since its winter and atlantis is technically a tropical habitat (i have no idea if that is true I'm just making an assumption please correct me if i am wrong) wouldn't we be in the middle of cyclone / severe storms territory? winter time on tropic islands usually brings bad storms.

I feel your pain. I had just gotten over one cold with a nasty ear infection when my niece comes home with a new germ from school to reinfect me. I've been resting and taking in lots of fluids for over a week, and I'm just barely starting to get to feeling better.

Mrph! That's no good!

Are you taking vitamins, Sherwood? At a time like that, I recommend lots of vitamin C, preferably from fresh fruit.

Purr Purr - Just to be clear, Trent would vote to leave them where they are. He would never compromise his mission for people he didn't know, regardless of the need. Sending them to the River Walker could be disastrous if they are caught before they got to it and then were tortured for information... you know how the rest would go....

After reading the latest IC, I'm really starting to wonder if there is a place in this group for me... We are on a mission and this is the second time that Trent has tried to remind everyone of that and he gets nothing but grief for it... I mean is the group supposed to rescue every injured squirrel we come across? Save everyone that is oppressed? The mission isn't to liberate the whole of Atlantis and create Utopia... Sherwood Sherwood mentioned about other missions after this one, but I dont think we will finish this one anytime soon if we have to stop and help everyone we possibly come across or have heard of...

Dano Dano Oh, that's the impression I received, hence my liking of Psychie's plan (basically get them on board the River Walker right before we leave and don't disclose even its existence until then). Thanks for your clarity, Dano! =)

Re: Vote. Hmm. Folks, if I'm counting the votes right, if all goes well with the meeting with the refugees, we have... 2 PCs in favor of putting them all in the back of Blake's Road Hammer, 2 PCs in favor of picking them up on our way back from the adventure, and 1 PC in favor of leaving them altogether (since Pips is still out).

Sherwood Sherwood (Forgive me if you've already answered this somewhere). Would the refugees that Shaona has seen so far, plus the cyber-ogre, all fit into Blake's Road Hammer?

Purr Purr If you need a tie break, I'm fine with Psychie's solution as well. Shaona will likely see reason as long as we do more than heal one guy and act as if that was enough.

Dano Dano It's too late to write too much right now; might write more tomorrow or something; Trent certainly sticks out in that he cares way less about morals than anyone else in the group. In addition to that, he does so in a very polarizing manner - that first sentence asked for a clear reaction, and at least two people directly took the opposite approach without too much thought.
I feel like Trent only sees the mission while the others follow their ideals that just happen to be in line with the mission, if that makes any sense. Trent came to Atlantis to get four guys, the rest of the group came to do the same and do as much good as possible along the way. Of course, that'll put him in a spot where his voice isn't heard as frequently as it should; I still believe that this can work, but it doesn't come up for the second time for no reason.

Dano Dano I am not going to make you stay if you are not happy. Also, I am not in the place where I feel a need to ask you to go. That is your choice. But consider this: While it is important to play a character that you like and will enjoy, do you need to do so at the cost of being completely against everyone else in the party? Your first character idea of the Fire-and-Brimstone Preacher was interesting, but with the entire party playing a DBee of one kind or another, that was not feasible. Then with your current sheet, you knew that the rest of the team were pulling out very good aligned characters (a quasi-paladin in Gradicus' case), you decide to play a very selfish character that is all about himself and his payday.

Now, there's nothing wrong with that, but instead of seeing this as a way to let your character grow and change as a person in the same vein as Han Solo did in Star Wars when he came back to save Luke, you are now getting ready to toss in the towel on him. Like I said, it is your choice. If you are truly unhappy with Trent as he is and want to change, you have the option of having a character in the group of refugees that want to join in with the others to free the four escaped slaves. I would then NPC Trent and have him take on more of a background role.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.

Would the refugees that Shaona has seen so far, plus the cyber-ogre, all fit into Blake's Road Hammer?
The Road Hammer has an internal sleeping room that can fit five or six people, so that would not be enough room, since Shaona has seen about twelve to fifteen people.

If you need a tie break, I'm fine with Psychie's solution as well. Shaona will likely see reason as long as we do more than heal one guy and act as if that was enough.

I hear that. That was never Gradicus's intention (if the refugees really are legit); like Shaona, he wants to help all of them somehow, someway.

@Sherwood mentioned about other missions after this one, but I dont think we will finish this one anytime soon if we have to stop and help everyone we possibly come across or have heard of...

Dano Dano A place for you or for Trent?

Dano, you're a really good roleplayer; I'd hate to see you go. However, I want to see you happy too. If memory serves, this is your very first Rifts game, right? While no one is asking you to play a Cyber-Knight, I have to ask - are you comfortable playing a character who cares about people enough to help them when their lives are endangered? Is it possible Trent could have a change of heart? What do you normally roleplay that might mesh better with this group?

And most importantly, what reasonable solution would make you happier here in this game? =)

Purr Purr That's the thing... I normally play the lawful good type (hence the Fire & Brimstone Preacher)... but in this case I wanted to do something more neutral. Trent isn't a 'bad' guy by any stretch of the means (and he isn't selfish, he simply covers his ass), he just wants to do the job that they were hired to do so he can move on to the next one... I'm not sure what the solution is here. I understand the alignment of wanting to help people, but do not understand the lack of focus on the task at hand... so far it seems like our actual mission is taking a backseat to every other thing that pops up...

At least from my perspective, the mission mostly took a back seat thus far because other decisions didn't interfere too much with it - yeah, we might have lost an hour defending the village, but that's not a big deal in the long run. This case is certainly different - but at least to me, it feels like there's some room to maneuver without risking the mission itself.

he just wants to do the job that they were hired to do so he can move on to the next one
Think that sums up the problem pretty well - it's a job for Trent, not much more; meanwhile, most others care very much about doing the right thing, not just collecting coins.

One thing that actually might help out would be the realization by Trent that he simply won't get these people he's dealt with to simply focus on the job and let everything else as it is; think from that perspective, it'd be possible for him to try to influence the group to care more for the mission while not always taking a position that's completely contrary to the rest of the group. I'm thinking in terms of "yeah, I know you'll want to save these people; let's find a way that won't bite us in the ass long-term." Of course, you might feel like that's not a n option for the way you want to play Trent, just an idea that I had. I don't know if it'd do the trick, either...

Edit: The thought is already in your last post, at least the way I read it - perhaps if Trent follows that line of thought a little further, he'll get to a place where he's still a voice of reason, while avoiding a position that noone will listen to anyway, as he formulated it?

Real Life strikes. Just learned a work buddy I've known for years is dead after a heart attack. I am not good right now.

I'll post when I post. Game on without me for now. Sorry to hold up the game.

Since Dannigan is dealing with some personal issues right now, should we proceed with the game? At this moment, I can see either Shaona or Terra being good candidates to go and try to break the ice with the people.

That is up to you guys. I am quite willing to proceed with the scene.
