Alrighty - didn't check the thread for one day, and we suddenly have a new player - great to have you, WlfSamurai WlfSamurai !

The other two summed up everything pretty well, so I'll probably just leave it at that - maybe let me point out that while Eron's magically augmented, he's not really a magic user; he's really mostly a melee specialist with enhanced senses and speed. And strength. And regeneration. And... well, you get the idea. Expect heroic charges, a hint of chivalry, and a bunch of weird thoughts that somehow add up to a personality that I really enjoy playing at the moment.

Crazies come with insanities, drawbacks that they get as the game progresses. Eron has a cat phobia, so you might not want to be a cat, necessarily; other than that, you're good to bring any good-aligned character and Eron will have a blast fighting alongside 'em. Lemme know if there's something I can help with.

In regards to the insanities, Sherwood Sherwood : Quite a while ago, I told you that I'd like to replace the hate for musicians with something that doesn't step on Dann's toes by accident - lately, Dann and I have done a bit of brainstorming in that direction. The stuff in the book doesn't quite work out for Eron, specifically, so I'd like to make you a proposal that's in the same spirit, but more in line with Eron's character. Mostly, I want to replace the hate for music with his obsession with the heroism of the cyber knights in battle that's always been present for him already. Haven't found the time to make it precise, yet - but would that generally be something that might find your approval?

Wow, yeah. There are almost TOO many options. Some really cool ideas and concepts, though.

So, let me toss out some concepts and some questions:
  1. Is there a way to play a sword-toting (beam sword or otherwise) character who can leap around the battlefield anime-style and cut things to shreds?
  2. I really like the idea of the Combat Cyborg: having an impervious body to walk through a hail of gunfire or being a living machine. This one is obvious.
  3. I assume the "Iron Man" character concept is would be a Robot Pilot? Can they be as nimble as Iron Man in power armor? Or is it more static hulking tank-style?
  4. Is the Ley Line Walker severely hampered on what they are able to achieve if they're not near a Ley Line?

I like the building obsession of the Cyber Knights and their codes of conduct. That will work just fine for me.

If you think that there are too many options now, just be glad you only have the one book to look at. There is probably at least eighty books for the setting.

1. Yes. Many different classes can be tweaked into being able to do that.
2. The only downside is the need for repairs when you take damage.
3. Yes. Either the Robot Pilot from the RUE book, or like Psychie suggested, a Cyclone pilot from Robotech. Either one would work.
4. No. They are just more powerful on a Ley Line, but outside one, you can still sling spells pretty effectively.

2. One solution to the repair need of the Borg is the Anti-Monster RCC. It is basically a magic cyborg, and has the ability to regenerate its damage over time. It can also add to that the fun of being a swordsman and slice and dice the bad guys.

3. The robot pilot can have a smaller, lightweight suit of armor that is more maneuverable, or it can be the larger, heavier style suit. The idea of using a Cyclone Pilot OCC from the UEEF Marines sourcebook would work pretty good.

4. The Ley Line Walker is more along the lines of a 'classic' spellcaster. They can do a lot on and off of a Ley Line.

What an unusual staff! It is vulnerable to magical energy, but it'll shrug off the biggest Zentraedi particle beam? Huh!

Can you imagine being shot at by something like the SDF-1's main gun only to stand there after the blast has passed, waving at them with a little staff in your hand?

"Hi!" *blows kisses* "Care to try again?"

Okay! I'm planting my flag! So many concepts and options, it was hard.

But, I'm going to play a Ley Line Walker.

...now just to...make him/her...

Hooray, WlfSamurai! Two curiosities:

1. What do you prefer to be called (have you a nickname or the like)?

2. Would you like help in creating your Ley Line Walker (of whatever race/species/what-have-you you and Sherwood decide upon)?

As a Ley Line Walker, you are going to be at level 8, so keep that in mind for your hit points, PPE and various skill percentiles.

Any thought on what race you wish to play?

Huh. Never really thought about it. Call me whatever.

I’ll definitely need help I’m sure. I’ve made many Robotech characters. But I want to make sure I can keep up with the team and I don’t know which options will benefit me most.

For instance:

I have no idea! I hadn’t even thought about it. I was so focused on which OCC to play. LOL.

Any suggestions?

Ugh!!!! I keep coming back to Cyber-Knight. I can’t let it go. It’s such a character that I would play. I was trying subvert, but I can’t do it.

I’VE CHANGED MY MIND. I’m going Cyber-Knight. Sorry!

Are there any races in the core book other than the RCC Dragon?

Cyber Knights are cool, and you will certainly get on Eron's good side by being one.

There are very few playable races in the core book. If you want an in with Terra and Snowfall (besides the Cyber Knight thing, that is), you could go with an Atlantian. They have good stats to them, and I'd even let you get a couple of extra magic tattoos to enhance your character.

There are two different books with Atlantian stats in them; World Book 2: Atlantis, and Dimension Book 15: Atlantis. If you don't have those books, I can copy over the stat rolls you'll need to make here so you can get rolling.

Yeah. If you don’t mind. I’ll look at them on DriveThru too.

What are the Atlantians about? Just being underwater? Can they breathe underwater?

The Atlantians are not aquatic. After their home was brought back to the world with the time of the Rifts, Atlantis was taken over by a group of very nasty critters called the Splurgoth. Those that are still alive are now refugees, living in various places around the Megaverse.
Man, they are crazy. So do I take the RCC on top of the OCC? I never remember how that works.
Yes, you get the attributes and bonuses of being the Atlantian, and then you add the bonuses from the Cyber Knight training.

Hey! "Whatever" it is! An odd name, but this is RP Nation and anything is possible (Just Kidding!). =)

I find this to be incredibly generous as Cyber-Knights are cybernetic by their very nature (hence the name cyber-knight), and cyberware and tattoo magic don't mix anywhere else in the game that I'm aware of. Which is why the Coalition States sometimes chop off the hands of magic-using prisoners reducing them to cybernetic beings forever incapable of using any real magic.

In addition, Cyber-knights are also psionicists. They can, at will, create a psychic Mega-damage blade (or two) out of thin air along with some other neat psionic tricks. WlfSamurai, I am firmly convinced Sherwood is allowing you the best of three wonderful worlds here - a very opportunity indeed.

What are the Atlantians about?
Small side note here. Only God knows why, but a number of Rifts Players refer to the spelling of Atlantean with an "i" in the name when their best sourcebook is titled"Secrets of the Atlanteans." Note, no "i." To my odd brain, It's kind of like a spelling cyber-knight with an "s" instead of a "c."

As for the race, I think anyone who is seriously considering playing an Atlantean is doing themselves a disservice unless they thoroughly read Secrets of the Atlanteans. That book is solid gold!

If you don't mind another definition/explanation of True Atlanteans, here is one to consider. The Atlanteans are for the most part a good-aligned clan-based race that lives all across the vast Megaverse righting wrongs, fighting evil (especially vampires!), and adding to the universe as they have for many millennia. Each clan is in a different situation in life and they have their own individual take on what it is to be Atlantean. In fact, one clan is not good-aligned at all; their secretive tattoo magics are unique only to them.

Magical by nature, often strong-hearted and compassionate by choice, the "True Atlanteans" are largely natural enemies of evil. Their technological wonders (like their pyramids or crystal items) are often magical. They learned their powerful and versatile tattoo magic from the creators of that magic, the ancient and true Chiang-Ku dragons, with whom they are closely allied.

If you've got the time and inclination, check out Gradicus "the Red Edge" of Clan Marciniszyn, my Undead Slayer with whom I had a great time prior to playing Snowfall. And have fun, WlfSamurai WlfSamurai !

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

From what I am to understand about the Cyber Knights, their implanted chest piece is capable of regenerating itself once the character hits 4th level, making it more bio-tech instead of cyberware. Also, it can be said that the character class has its name spelled wrong. It should be Psyber Knights, since they can make their Psi Sword and many have psi powers in addition to that, including the ability to get Super Psionics as you level up.
