There's thousands of Dimmensions with thousands of different Ricks and Mortys each classed by letters and numbers. Like every great tale, there is a beginning as other Ricks started travelling to various dimmensions for differing reasons and at differing times in his life.
The A dimmensions are where Rick's multidimmensional escapades really began. Rick A-001, or Genious Rick as he is known in Ricklantis was the first rick to travel to other dimmensions. Rick A-001 worked on a top secret project for the FBI that aimed to bend space and time for the purposes of teleporting spies.
Rick volenteered to teleport himself once earth's first portal was made and he has had adventure after adventure since. Now, in 1988 Rick A-050 is something of a deadbeat father to his three kids with Beth being his youngest. He makes his living selling guns to anti-Galactic federation terrorist groups. You work with Rick Sanchez, beit as one of his kids or as one of his allies.
