Vampires

The power of a vampire is not, despite common belief, tied to their age. While an older Vampire is likely to be stronger simply due to having a greater wealth of knowledge and skill, this doesn't necessarily mean that it will be faster or physically stronger then a younger vampire. What truly determines the potency of the curse running through their veins is their 'generation'. A first or second generation vampire are immensely powerful beings that border upon being gods made flesh. With each 'passing' of the curse, the dark magic is weakened. As should be obvious, the first generation is the 'sire' of the bloodlines.

Vampires cannot have children, not with mortals nor themselves. As such, many Vampires when they 'sire' someone will consider them to be their children and there tends to be a bond that exist between a sire and the sired, while this bond can be broken and does not force them to be beholden to one another, it is there nonetheless. When a vampire 'sires' multiple people, the 'sired' vampire can feel a pull to the other members created by their 'Master'. This pull can lead them exactly to that vampire; though it is not a constant pull and the vampire can easily ignore it should they choose to. Same goes for a pull to their 'Master' it is always there, but only if they wish it to be.

First generation vampires are HIGHLY rare nowadays due to the Red Lung virus, and as such there tends to be a shortage in show many vampires they can create. A first gen will be able to create a second gen without much fear of the second gen turning into a Rapid. Second gens have a 50% chance to 'sire' another, but they typically create a Rabid. Third gens are unable to sire any another vampires, as any humans they try to turn will be transformed into a Rabid. Thus why it is a rule that only Master's are allowed to sire others, and even so they tend not to in fear that it will shorten the food supply further.

Red Lung Disease
Red Lung Disease
is the plague that wiped out most of Earth's population. It is highly contagious and deadly within forty-eight hours.

Symptoms
Red Lung begins with the onset of flu-like symptoms including fever, aching, nausea, coughing, and fatigue. These symptoms persist for several days and then begin to escalate. Within one week of exposure, necrosis sets into the lung tissue, causing lesions and open sores. This, in turn, results in bleeding into the lungs, causing difficulty breathing, and the bloody coughing that led to the name “red lung.” Once lesions in the lungs begin, they proceed rapidly, ultimately resulting in death, generally within forty-eight hours. Death is most often ascribed to asphyxia from fluid accumulation in the lungs.

Mortality and Contagion
Red Lung is an airborne virus, spread through viral droplet nuclei transmission – minute samples of the virus are transferred when an infected person coughs or sneezes, spreading mucus-coated virus molecules. The comparatively slow progress of the early stages of the virus and the mundane nature of the initial symptoms allowed Red Lung to spread through the population before public health officials could institute policies to curtail travel or quarantine suspected carriers. By the time world governments realized a problem existed, Red Lung was already rampant and spreading throughout all of the industrialized nations.

Before the public health systems crumbled, Red Lung mortality rates were measured at greater than 70%, on par with the worst outbreaks of the Bubonic Plague. The rare cases of recovery conferred immunity on the survivors. This immunity was found to be passed down through genetic bloodlines. Unfortunately, the death rate far exceeded the birth rate, leading to a rapidly declining population.

Rabids

Rabids are humans and vampires alike that have been inflicted with a more severe case of the Red Lung disease. Rabids are created when vampires try to turn humans into vampires. In the creation process, the human is given the blood of their 'master' to become a human and since every vampire is a carrier of the Red Lung disease, many of the vampires turn the humans into feral beast like creatures that behave like vampires that have gone several years without blood.

Rabids are extremely pale creatures with milky white eyes, no pupil. They have long sharp canine teeth littering their mouth and they tend to look like walking skeletons with long sharp claws to tear into you. During the day, they burrow deep into the ground to take shelter and sleep. At night the prowl about, looking for anything to eat. Their senses are sharper, more attuned to the feral needs of a vampire. They can smell even the faintest hint of blood in the wind. When dealing with these creatures, there is but one way to kill them. Decapitation.

Staten Island: Staten Island is the base of power of Morrigan. Outside of a few pockets of human resistant and bands of Rabids that keep to the sewers, the Vampires have claimed it with an iron fist as it was less 'protected' then Manhattan and its island state allowed them to quickly lock it down and make their dominance known.

Manhattan: Is the true center of 'conflict' within New York city. Lower Manhattan is controlled by the Vampires as they have established a foothold and are looking to push forward to claim the rest as, just like Staten Island, the only ways to it are through barge or the few bridges allowing it to be easily held and locked down. Upper Manhattan is firmly under control of Flesh Gods who seek to kick the vampires out and lock Manhattan down in order to curb the ambitions of the blood drinkers. Rabid are everywhere, especially, in the sewer systems and central park.

Bronx: Not much is known on Bronx, it lacks the sheer rabid population density as Queens and Brooklyn, but the true state of it is mostly unknown. 'Large' amounts of humans call it their home and the Bronx is also home to the local US military remnants and survivors of the local government.

Queens/Brooklyn: Completely overrun, the city is sprinkled with large craters and decaying buildings from the failed US military attempt at reclaiming ground from the hordes of Rabids. Queens and Brooklyn contain the largest amount of rabids per square block and any attempts or talks about establishing a foothold there is often quickly discarded as an improbability. Small pockets of humans have been spotted attempting to survive within the ruins.

Ranks

Lamia Military

Important Note: While firearms are used primarily by the Vampires, they do make use of melee weaponry, especially swords. This comes from centuries of belief in their own nobility and thanks to their sheer speed and strength, such archaic weaponry can be implemented with incredibly lethality. They are also very effect at killing Rabids.
Obsidian Guard: These are twenty vampires, both male and female, who guard [Insert Queen Name], they are her most trusted 'children' and have devoted their lives to her. They tend to wear dark armor, long, beautifully crafted swords and most tend to carry some form of submachineguns or pistol on their person. These Guard are very 'pampered' given luxurious rooms and various pleasures when not on duty and each is given a number of high quality chattel to do with as they will for 'rewards of their service'.

Hunters: Elite vampires that act as scouts and 'hunters'. They are well supplied, trained and rewarded for it is their duty to find new resources for the Regulars to bring in and are often the ones catching surviving humans to bring them back to fulfill their purpose as cattle.

Lamia Regulars: The armed force of the Lamia, they come in all different shapes and sizes to fulfill whatever purpose the are needed to. They are the primary fighting force within Lower Manhattan.

Night Watch: The closest thing to a 'police' force of the Lamia. They are made up over low generation vampires, light body armor, pistols, batons and other such weaponry. They can, if needed, acquire heavier weaponry, but their primary job is ensuring cattle know their place.

Sewer Rats: These are small squads of human cattle wearing explosive collars and sent into the sewers beneath Staten Island and Lower Manhattan to clear out the Rabids. They are given pistols, knives and other small weaponry and tend to be 'led' by a low generation vampire whom keeps them in line.

Vampire Ranks
Obsidian Matriarch:
The most powerful of the Lamia vampires and the claimant to the domain of New York. {Position Taken}

The Handmaidens: These six vampire women are the closest servants and 'daughters' of the Matriarch. While they hold no 'official' rank, unofficially, they each carry immense power and influence as they have the ear of the Matriarch and can, in dire times, speak with her will.

The Eternal Court: This makes up the majority of powerful Lamia vampires, many will call themselves 'Dukes', 'Lords' and 'Barons', and, indeed, many are either from the past or they can follow their 'bloodline' to one of these prestigious ranks, however, the title is nothing more then flair as the true marks of power within the Eternal Court is personal wealth and power and how greatly the Matriarch favors them which is constantly swaying as the struggle for her favor is an ever going struggle.

Dark Heralds: These are the lesser vampiric nobility, they often act as 'servants' of members of the Eternal Court or as prominent members and commanders of the Lamia military arms.

Vampires: This broad rank covers the vast majority of Lamia vampires from the soldiers to the common 'citizenry'. They hold no real special rank or purpose.

Human Ranks

*Luxury Cattle:
These humans are the 'pets', they tend to have some feature that attracts their dark overlords usually, it is their looks, as they tend to be very beautiful or handsome and so not something the Vampire would be embarrassed having 'serving' their guest. Luxury cattle tends to be more 'female' then 'male' as females are, usually, seen as more 'physically' pleasing especially as servants. They hold more 'expense' and so hold more value, then other cattle.

*Specialized Cattle: These cattle tend to have some kind of use, either as good fighters for gladiatorial pits or as broken bodyguards, be incredibly intelligent and serve as advisers or teachers, or any other positions. They can be pleasing, or not, and it isn't uncommon for a specialized cattle to also be a luxury cattle.

*Menial Cattle: Menial cattle are the lowest of the low, their primary job is to do 'menial' jobs that no one else will do, they are treated like dirt and often not given second looks by anyone.

Unregistered: Humans who are off the 'grid'. These people live in broken homes and places. Often with no food and rare in sight. These are people who are not under the protection of Her Majesty, and as such they do not get food rations, protection, homes, or any of the like. They keep to the outskirts of the city, living in what broken places exist out there. Many of the people in this rank are known to join 'gangs' in order to survive. These people are left alone, but no one of bats an eye if a few of them die or are taken since they do not bare the mark of the Queen.

*These cattle are considered Registered humans.
