Red Continent

Kalimdor, December 629 K.C

The old continent withers and dies. The cold hand of the Undead Scourge clasps the blackened spires of Lordaeron and stalks the halls of Ironforge. All across the Eastern Kingdoms, stirred by the mysterious prophet, kings and ancient dynasties lead their people to unknown shores.

The old hatreds simmer on the surface. Even the Great Scourging could not erase the memory of the wars of Alliance and Horde. The Kaldorei and the Khans vow to sweep the invaders from their ancestral homeland, inspired by the Demigod Cenarius and the traditions of their ancestors.

Kings take court in Tiragarde to pick at the bones of the leader of the Alliance of Kalimdor. A young, inexperienced Tandred Proudmoore ascends the title of Lord Admiral, and all men in Kalimdor scrutinize the character of the man that would continue his father’s vision for the Alliance. In Bael Modan, the Council of Three Hammers guards the Barrens from the horrors of the Scourge fortress of Razorfen, united in memory of Khaz Modan.

In the shadows skulk the Quel’dorei, spited but not forgotten, crafting a hidden city from the wonders of the new world. They gather themselves, neglected by Alliance and Horde alike. Greymane’’s stubborn folk burn a foothold through the dense forests of Feralas, struggling with harsh wilds and hostile natives. And the Kirin Tor, once thought a memory, stammer into life in the snows of Winterspring.

Grommash, aged but not feeble, stews in his citadel of Orgrimmar, and vows revenge for the unjust slaying of his erstwhile ally, the Shaman Thrall. The beaten peoples of the Horde, weary of war but hounded by the Alliance even where it once was safe, prepare for conflict neverending. Mulgore’s great gate remains sealed as the Tauren ponder a future in a home so marred by the terrors of war. Goblins labour for the only allies that will accommodate them, under threat of Tirasian sail and Orcish axe.

And now, once more, they paint a continent red.

In the war of Man and Orc, of Centaur and Elf, there can only be one victor; who shall come to master the living?

And who shall shield the new realms from the dead?

Setting and Context

Red Continent is based in an alternative reality Warcraft universe; one that asks the question of ‘What if Arthas had not culled Stratholme and failed to contain the Scourge?’

The Eastern Kingdoms have descended into a Scourged anarchy feuded over by petty warlords. Necromancers drink toasts to alliance in the ruins of Stromgarde one day and betray one another the next. The will of the Lich King wanes and teeters on collapse. The mindless dead think only for themselves.

Human and Orc alike lead an exodus to Kalimdor. Joined by their allies, the Alliance of Kalimdor, lead by Daelin Proudmoore, executed the Warchief Thrall and ended any talk of peace. What followed was three years of war with the New Horde of Grommash Hellscream, which nearly toppled the order of the continent.

All that kept the fragile peace was the explosive entrance of the Great Khan and the reunited Centaur. Forced back by Grommash, the Khanate now licks its wounds. Daelin, an old man, passes away in the city of Tiragarde, and his son, Tandred, eager to prove himself, looks to end the Orcish threat once and for all.

The people of the Horde were scarred most by the arrival of the Alliance; the Echo Isles were brutally occupied, and Mulgore sieged twice. Grommash, Baine, Vol’jin and Gazlowe nervously look to Tiragarde and pray for the collapse of the fragile Alliance, if only to preserve themselves the expense of another conflict. Gorehowl hungers to sweep the Humans from the shores of Durotar.

The Night Elves remain isolated in Darnassus, feuding with the isolated colonists of the fiercely independent Liam Greymane in Feralas and contending with both Orcish and Human incursions for the lumber of Ashenvale. It is only the demigod Cenarius who keeps the fragile peace at the shadow of Nordrassil, repelling expeditions and hordes with the power of the very forest itself.

The Centaur rally to another Great Khan and prepare for a new season of war, eager to reconquer the promised grasslands of Mulgore and avenge the disgrace the Horde brought upon their predecessor.

On Daelin Proudmoore’s deathbed, the continent appears to be mobilizing for a fresh series of conflicts. The Cult of the Ashbringer promises salvation in crusade, as pilgrim knights quest far and wide for a way to purify the sacred blade and reclaim their former homes from the Undead Scourge. Hundreds of thousands of men give thanks each day to the memory of Alexandros, as the flame of the old world remains alive in Theramore.

The Tauren look inward as they begin to question if the Horde truly has done more good than bad for them. Grimtotem and Bloodhoof rally their power blocs to fight a shadow feud that may determine whether Mulgore will remain, and risks destabilizing the Horde even as the Alliance is torn by their own politics. None know what bold schemes are hatched behind the shuttered doors of the Great Gate.

These are the inheritances of Red Continent. As a player, you will take control of a nation, and lead them to glory in the fighting to come.

Factions & Nations

Alliance of Kalimdor

Admiralty of Tiragarde

Naturally, the leadership of the Alliance had rested on the broad shoulders of Daelin Proudmoore; however as his grip on the scepter of power ebbs, Tiragarde exerts less steel-fisted intimidation over their allies on the continent, and as the Grand Admiral wanes away, many doubt his unsure son Tandred's ability to rule. Many would rather look to Theramore, yearning for the same brutish leadership that Daelin had cultivated over the years to navigate them through unsteady waters. Young and inexperienced, Tandred finds himself in a delicate position - at the seat of the world's largest navy, and at the helm of an unsteady Alliance that his neighbours have sought to topple for many years. Can he rise to fill his father's boots, or will he shirk the mantle of responsibility?

Kingdom of Theramore

Theramore had always domineered the largest ground forces of the Alliance of Kalimdor, and had thus been charged, alongside Galen Trollbane, with the larger campaigns. The largest offensive campaigns meted upon King Arthas Menethil gradually wore there forces thin, however they still boasted the vasted military in the coalition - however, the heavy reliance on Theramorian manpower quickly drew a divide between Arthas and Daelin, and thus far Arthas has yet to declare support for Tandred. This is worrying, as Theramore were traditionally the second largest member of the Alliance, and Arthas could possibly challenge Tandred for the natural leadership of the Alliance. Will Arthas support and prop up the boy Admiral, or will he seek leadership of his own?

Thoradin's Reach

Raised on the fallen trees of Ashenvale, the men of Stromgarde - that nation that was once the birthplace of men - make war against the impossible magic of the demigod Cenarius and the incursions of Grommash’s Horde as they struggle to build for themselves a legacy worthy of their great ancestors. Emboldened by their leadership in Galen Trollbane, wielding his dreaded blade Trol’Kalar, the men of Stromgarde look to years of grim struggle before their triumph. Will Galen manage to defy his dour situation and steer his people to victory?

Lion's Landing

Severely weakened, despite the stalwart leadership of King Varian, the former men-of-Stormwind battle tirelessly against the Naga in a bid to claim Azshara as their own. The impressive city of Lion's Landing stands tall over a tumultuous war zone, where fierce resistance from the Naga, rallying behind General Fangferror who seeks to push the humans from Azshara. Will Varian be able to hold out against Fangferror's assault, and put himself at the heart of the Alliance, or will he succumb to the onrushing foe?

Council of Three Hammers

Bael Modan was raised at the precipice of the Razorfen Downs by the first Bronzebeard and Wildhammer settlers fleeing the outbreak of the plague in their own kingdoms. The coalition has proven tense and terse, but WIldhammer aeries scattered across the Barrens and Bronzebeard excavators have proven to shape the city into a formidable bastion of Dwarven might reminiscent of Ironforge of old; the admission of Gelbin Mekkatorque to the Council of Three Hammers has bolstered the already advanced Dwarven arsenal as Gnomeregan’s exiles continue their innovations away from their fallen home. As the Downs begin to stir again, however, can Bael Modan afford complacency?

The Horde

Orgrimmar

Warchief Thrall’s great dream after he broke the shackles of the Orcs many years ago was to found a New Horde, and a nation of their own; in the red deserts of Durotar, he believed he had found his answer. However, when the Great Scourging dawned and the mysterious Prophet had fallen silent, humanity followed him to his new home. His attempts to mediate with Proudmoore proved wasted, and he was betrayed and executed. Grommash Hellscream, a wisened elder warrior, leads the Horde in a new age; and his crusade for vengeance against Proudmoore did not end with his death. The Horde must fight to survive in the new world.

Bloodhoof Confederation

The coalition of tribes of the Tauren owes much to the Horde; the banishment of the feared centaur saved their race from extinction, and all but the Grimtotem - power-hungry and resentful - took the plains of Mulgore for their home, raising Thunderbluff and the Bloodhoof Tribe to power. However, Proudmoore’s War did much to scar the Tauren people; a pact with the Grimtotem has allowed them to return to Mulgore in order to assist against what was a bloody siege against their Great Gate by the men of Tiragarde, and increasingly talks of a move away from Grommash begin to circulate. Bloodhoof or Grimtotem, these seem grim times to be part of the former migratory tribes.

Darkspear Tribe

None know adversity like the Darkspear Tribe of Vol’jin. Having originally been exiled from their own home by the schemes of a Naga sea witch, they found salvation in Thrall’s Horde and carved out an existence anew on the Echo Isles. However, the brutality of Proudmoore’s War has left even their new home a sacked ruin, and they are forced to cling to what little they have in the coastal village of Sen’jin. These may be the last chapters in the history of the once-mighty Trolls - or, perhaps, they will show yet more resilience to the winds of fate. That is yet to be seen as a new era dawns upon Kalimdor.

Steamwheedle Coalition in Ratchet (or just Steamwheedle Cartel)

Forced by the cannons of an Alliance blockade to choose between survival and trade, the Steamwheedle Coalition threw its lot in with the Horde when Admiral Proudmoore’s aggressive refusal to accept their neutrality backed them into a corner. A coalition of Venture Co. officials and Steamwheedle remnants, Ratchet is ideally positioned to inherit the legacy of Goblin trade lost to the Great Scourge - however, whether this is done alone or as part of the Horde is yet to be seen. Which path will Ratchet take?

Neutrals

The Long Vigil

Long has Malfurion Stormrage slept beneath the Barrow Den of Moonglade, and long have the Kaldorei kept their great vigil of the sacred forests. Sensing the destruction that threatens to rend the land, tensions continue to arise between Archdruid Fandral Staghelm and the itinerant priestess of Elune Tyrande Whisperwind as to who should govern the Kaldorei in this new era of intrusive warring Alliances and Hordes; whatever the interlopers may feel, however, the Children of the Night know that the Burning Legion’s shadow continues to hover over Azeroth in its darkest hour - and their Long Vigil remains unbroken.

New Gilneas

Fiercely independent, The Gilneans were entirely itinerant for an extended period of time. Occupied with battles of their own against the Night Elves, trying to carve out their own home in Feralas, the Alliance of Kalimdor held very little allure for the Gilneans - and the sentiment was returned in Tiragarde, where Daelin grew tired of their reluctance to dedicate themselves to his wars. In fact, it was only Genn's perseverance that convinced the nation to stay in the coalition, and upon his death very little bound the country to their allies, and Liam Greymane immediately seceded from the group. Battling chiefly against Feathermoon Stronghold and hulking Ogres, can Liam manage to use his newfound independence to lead his nation to glory, or will Gilneas' isolation be her undoing?

The Cult of Ashbringer

Remnants of the Order of the Silver Hand, Renault Mograine and his devout followers cling to the past - in possession of the corrupted Ashbringer, questing Knights roam their new realm in search of a means to purify the blade. Calling their Cathedral in Theramore home, they are a small, itinerant group that maintain a distinct 'neutrality', with only one goal in mind. Where will they search for a way to purify the almighty blade, if at all? And will they manage to chase their task and maintain the shaky neutrality, or will they be forced to take a side?

Centaur Khanate

The threat of the Centaur hordes were abated after their scathing defeat at the hands of Grommash Hellscream, and forced to retreat across vast swathes of Kalimdor. Since then, the Khan succumbed to a wasting disease, and the leadership of the Khanate was put to contest - traditionally, only the mightiest warriors of the Horde would be able to grasp the reins, and that has been put to the test. Will a great warrior best his foes and take command of the Khanate, or will infighting see the end of the feared Centaur Khanate?

Timeline
October, 612 (K.C) - The Great Scourging begins in Lordaeron. Prince Arthas and Jaina Proudmoore mount a detailed investigation into the mysterious plague gripping the northlands and Andorhal. The mastermind behind the plague - and it’s terrible effect of turning the afflicted to the mindless dead - are revealed in Stratholme. However, faced with the choice of culling his people to stop the mindless Horde, Arthas refuses, and withdraws with Uther the Lightbringer to prepare for battle with the legions of the Dreadlord Mal’ganis.
November, 612 (K.C) - The Undead in the Plaguelands overwhelm an unexpectant Andorhal and Tyr’s Hand. The dead are raised and the legions multiply with terrifying efficiency. The Dreadlords command their dead directly from field to field, as countless paladins - including Uther himself - fall attempting to aid the evacuation into Tirisfal.
January, 613 (K.C) - With Lordaeron crippled, the Alliance collapses. Gilneas withdraws and Stromgarde - terrified of the new Scourge - withdraws to their borders and makes ready to defend Thoradin’s Wall. Alterac is abandoned to the mercy of the Scourge pouring from the Darrowmere into Hillsbrad. Kul Tiras remains cooperative, sending ships to aid the evacuation of non-plagued personnel.
February, 613 (K.C) - Southshore is sacked and Tarren Mill along with it. Alterac is overwhelmed by the Scourge. The first Frost Wyrms begin to terrorize Tirisfal and Arathi. Thoras of Stromgarde leads a sally from the wall that briefly secures Durnholde from a beleaguered Lordaeron garrison, but only succeeds in carrying the plague into his own nation by opening the gates of Thoradin’s Wall.
June, 613 (K.C) - Alexandros Mograine, wielding the Ashbringer, turns the tide of battles in Darrowmere. The Scourge are forced back into Andorhal. The Order of the Silver Hand becomes resurgent lead by Arthas and Mograine alike. Terenas Menethil II reaffirms his dedication to the people of Lordaeron and refuses to abandon his borders as the military advance is once more on the side of the Alliance.
July, 613 (K.C) - The Greymane Wall opens and the Gilnean army sally forth to capture Hillsbrad from the Scourge. Initial successes spearheaded by Darius Crowley secure Southshore and the furthest banks of the Thondroril from the Scourge. However, the Gilnean army were in fact lured into a trap - they are cut off at the Thondroril banks and attempts to fight their way out end disastrously. Scourge numbers in Hillsbrad bolster as much of the Gilnean army is obliterated.
December, 613 (K.C) - Alexandros dies at the Battle of Andorhal, after having slain all four Dreadlords responsible for the rise of the Scourge. The dead become feral and mindless as the will guiding them is stifled. The Ashbringer and Alexandros’ soul is corrupted by his battle with the potent demons. Renault, his son, takes the corrupted blade and grants his father’s request for a quick death. Scourge attacks on Tirisfal redouble.
January, 614 (K.C) - The Silver Hand collapses following the deaths of many of their senior leadership battling the Scourge. Andorhal - recently reclaimed - is lost once more. The Scourge begin to plague and blight the land - Darrowmere blackens. The House of Barov and Rivendare are revealed as traitors to the Crown, and their mysterious, black-armoured knights are said to be leading the charges of the mindless dead.
June, 614 (K.C) - Terenas II Menethil refuses the appeals of his son to lead their people west. Arthas, acting on his own initiative to save his people, heeds the advice of the Prophet and - with his own and Jaina’s following - sail for the lost lands of Kalimdor. Tirisfal Glades falls to the Scourge shortly after, and the Capitol is sacked.
July, 614 (K.C) - Dalaran is sacked by the Undead Scourge. Archmage Antonidas and several of the senior magi had already been overwhelmed in the initial fighting for Alterac. Scourge sieges of both Thoradin’s and the Greymane Wall begin. Frost Wyrms raid Stromgarde and Gilneas City. Appeals are sent to Quel’thalas for help.
August, 614 (K.C) - Having completed the evacuation of their most senior magi and Prince Kael’thas from the ruins of Dalaran, King Anasterian Sunstrider of Quel’thalas seals the Elfgates. The Scourge are unable to penetrate the magical barriers, and a conspiracy of House Barov and Rivendare are forced to search for an alternative route into the High Kingdom for shadowy purposes. The Council of Silvermoon debate for months about the sending of aid to the nations of Gilneas and Stromgarde, but no effective response is sent to their allies.
October 614 (K.C) - The co-conspirators begin to meet with Dar’Khan Drathir of the Council of Silvermoon. Promised dominion over an Undead Quel’thalas, Dark’Khan agrees to show Lord Barov and Baron Rivendare how to deactivate the Elfgates. The Scourge of Caer Darrow and Stratholme vacate their former holdings and their conflicts with the Mindless Dead, preparing to swarm across the kingdom alongside the Death Knights.
January 615 (K.C) - The undermanned Greymane Wall is overwhelmed and toppled by Scourge infiltrators. Gilneas is evacuated by a reluctant Genn Greymane. Baron Silverlaine and the remnants of the army stage a typically stubborn last stand at the headland, rumouredly briefly triumphing over the Scourge before being stifled. Plagued populations in Stromgarde begin to turn and the nation descends into anarchy.
February 615 (K.C) - Quel’thalas is swarmed by the combined Barov and Rivendare forces. Sylvanas Windrunner, charged with the defense of the High Kingdom, successfully holds the line outside of Tranquillien. Frustrated by the strength of the Elf resistance and the barriers of the magical runestones, Barov and Rivendare are forced to reconsider their tactics. Plague is spread throughout the land, and wells are contaminated with it. Many plagued Quel’dorei fester in the population.
August 615 (K.C) - Thoradin’s Wall collapses under the weight of a focused Scourge offensive. Stromgarde - already embroiled in containing its own plagued and dead - can mount little resistance. Thoras Trollbane and his Praetorian Guard lead numerous defensive battles, whilst his son - Prince Galen - is gifted with Trol’kalar and flees with the civilian population that are deemed healthy.
September 615 (K.C) - The entirety of the Northern Eastern Kingdoms is occupied and scourging begins. The plague spreads to Khaz Modan through fleeing refugees. Tirisfal, Darrowmere and Hillsbrad are reduced to plagued ruins within weeks. At Drisburg, plagued refugees turn and the failure to contain the town results in an organised Scourge force beginning to battle for the mainland of Kul Tiras. The fleet of Duke Falrevere attempt to contain the situation only to take sizeable casualties and be forced to withdraw to the capital.
December 615 (K.C) - Disburg becomes a Scourge citadel as the corpses of the fallen are raised. The Scourge army advances toward Boralus despite heavy opposition. Daelin Proudmoore’s fleets are effective in repulsing Scourge attempts to cross into his nation and transporting refugees to Kalimdor.
January 616 (K.C) - With the Scourge presence in his kingdom doubling, Admiral Daelin evacuates the entire civilian population to Crestfall to prepare them for a similar exodus to Kalimdor. Boralus - empty - is left to the Scourge. Crestfall is effectively defended by the Tirasian Fleet and evacuation is smoothe - the sail to Kalimdor allows Daelin and his son Tandred to prepare their next move.
Theramore is established on a remote isle by Arthas and Jaina, the first Alliance colony in Kalimdor. Arthas remains detached and understandably broken - settlement is encouraged by the resources brought from Lordaeron. He finds solace in Jaina, and the two conceive a child.
August 616 (K.C) - A Scourge invasion of Khaz Modan lead by Baron Rivendare secures the Wetlands and Menethil Harbour - one of the last remaining human cities in the Northern Eastern Kingdoms - is conquered. Progress stagnates as King Magni bitterly defends the mountain passes of his homeland, but an outbreak of the plague in Dun Morogh itself begins to create internal strife.
Daelin Proudmoore arrives in Kalimdor, claiming leadership of the Alliance. He effectively sidelines Theramore and establishes Tiragarde as the new capital of his ‘Alliance of Kalimdor’. He begins to antagonize the well-established Orcs of Orgrimmar, who are held back by Thrall.
Genn Greymane, refusing to acknowledge Daelin’s supposed authority, splinters from the Alliance once more and vows to forge his own path, leading his people on an exodus into the interior of Kalimdor.
Galen Trollbane, one of the weakest of the Alliance rulers after his nation’s near-destruction, submits to Proudmoore’s authority alongside a reluctant Arthas. The Alliance begins to consolidate itself.
November 616 (K.C) - Khaz Modan is penetrated by Rivendare, and Ironforge is sealed. The Wildhammers of the Aerie arrive in Ironforge and Falstad Wildhammer acknowledges a pact of peace and cooperation. With the loss of nearly all their continental allies and facing potential starvation in waiting out a Scourge siege, the Dwarves put their trust in the Gnomish Tram and arrive in Stormwind en masse.
Magni, Mekkatorque and Falstad all warn the Lord Regent Bolvar of Stormwind of the now-unstoppable Scourge host. Stormwind prepares to - for the second time in its troubled history - evacuate.
Thrall continues to attempt to mediate between himself and the Humans, finding cooperation in Theramore in the person of Jaina Proudmoore and Arthas Menethil. However, Daelin crudely interrupts negotiations, has the Orc arrested, and executes him. A vengeful Grommash Hellscream ascends to the position of Warchief.
Uther Menethil, named Arthas’ son and heir, is born to him and Lady Jaina. The pair immediately announce marriage arrangements and legitimize their child. Celebrations in the streets of Theramore.
December 616 (K.C) - The Regent Lord’s evacuation of Stormwind is completed by the time the Scourge fall upon the abandoned provinces. The far south is bled dry, as the Regent Lord and his men garrison Stormwind City. The final pitched Human opposition in the Eastern Kingdoms are gradually worn down and Bolvar himself dies outside Stormwind Keep on Rivendare’s runeblade.
The young King of Stormwind, Varian Wrynn, is sent to Kalimdor with his people.
July 617 (K.C) - War breaks out between Grommash’ Horde and Daelin’s Alliance as the forces of Stormwind and the Dwarves land in Theramore. Initial skirmishes in the Barrens result in the sacking of the Crossroads and the pushing back of the Horde defensive lines. Galen Trollbane proves a capable commander in the field.
The non-existent Horde Fleet allows for a blockade of Orgrimmar to take place, but foul weather and storms blow the fleet off course before their arrival - the survivors, lead by Elizabeth Fairmount, establish what would one day be Northwatch Hold to defend the coast from Horde attack.
A period of stagnation follows as each side considers their next move.
August 617 (K.C) - Daelin dispatches Galen with a continent of Stromsmen to enclose and sack the Echo Isles. Wielding Trol’kalar, the Stromic raider successfully torch Darkspear Hold and prepare for further advances into Durotar. Tiragarde briefly comes under siege by Grommash personally, however Alliance offensives in the Barrens demand the Warchief’s full attention, and he redirects his forces to face them.
Alliance forces are shattered in the Barrens by an efficient and crushing series of maneuvers from Mulgore and Grommash leave them enclosed. Baine Bloodhoof expresses concerns over the war and Grommash’ single-minded military style of rule - he is rebuked.
Vol’jin and the Darkspear Tribe retreat to the coast and prepare for a defensive battle.
September 617 (K.C) - Enraged by the Tauren intervention in the war, Daelin instructs Galen to abandon the planned invasion of Durotar to focus on the Barrens front. The Echo Isles have their soil salted and much of the vegetation is burnt alongside Darkspear Hold.
Grommash launches an attack on the budding Northwatch Hold, Captain Fairmount is forced to withdraw from her original position. Daelin demands Ratchet cease their arms trade to the Horde, but when Gazlowe refuses to comply, an Alliance blockade strangles Ratchet. The Steamwheedle Cartel, under political pressure, joins the Horde.
Daelin besieges the Great Gate after forcing Baine Bloodhoof into full retreat. Cairne, his father, oversees the defense. The Tauren of Camp Taurajo are massacred.
November 617 (K.C) - The Centaur Khans are called to a meeting in the Valley of Spears as Khan Hratha begins to gain a considerable advantage in the civil war rife within the former Centaur Khanate. His fellow Khans are butchered upon arrival, and their clans forced to swear fealty at the point of a sword - from the Holy Site of Maraduron, Hratha is declared Great Khan as the Centaur mobilize under him for war.
The Barrens campaign stagnates in the winter months as the bulk of the Alliance army attempt to besiege the Great Gate in order to penetrate into Mulgore. The Horde begin to re occupy and fortify their positions in the Crossroads as they regroup and plan their next move.
The Alliance Fleet succeed in blockading Orgrimmar as well as Ratchet, effectively cutting off both nations from one another. Stormwindian colonists land in Azshara, and Lion’s Landing - the new settlement Daelin certifies to the House of Wrynn - is established in order to secure the northlands from the Horde.
March 618 (K.C) - Anasterian Sunstrider and the Quel’dorei appear in Theramore after a taxing teleportation spell. Survivors number in the few thousands. Word quickly spreads of Quel’thalas having fallen and unknown designs on the Sunwell being executed. Orthmar Garithos, former Lord of Blackwood, is quick to condemn the Elves for abandoning Stromgarde and Gilneas in their time of need. Jaina refuses to imprison the King, and a political crisis develops in Theramore between Garithos’ army and Arthas’ noble elite. The planned offensive out of Dustwallow against the Horde is cancelled as troops remain in deadlock over the fate of the Elves.
April 618 (K.C) - A Centaur invasion of the Barrens sweeps aside most opposition, more focused on one side rather than the other. The war in the Barrens becomes increasingly costly and bloody for both sides. Khan Hratha succeeds in cutting Dustwallow off from the main Alliance force at the Great Gate, defeating Galen’s secondary army at the base of Razorfen and briefly taking the King of Stromgarde hostage before he is ransomed.
The Horde - attempting to capitalize on the Alliance’s misfortune - only realize they were the intended target. Daelin Proudmoore’s force begins a march away from the Great Gate as their place is taken by a vengeful Khanate looking to reconquer the rich grasslands of Mulgore for themselves. Mulgore - isolated from Orgrimmar - cannot supply an increasingly strangled Horde.
With his reserve army destroyed and his main force beginning to succumb to the harsh Barrens summer, Daelin and the beleaguered Grommash agree a reluctant truce to combat the Centaur.
Before a decision over the fate of the Elves can be reached by the leadership of the Alliance of Kalimdor, the Quel’dorei mysteriously vanish following a series of vengeful lynchings and the crippling effects of withdrawal from the Sunwell beginning to set in.
May 618 (K.C) - Cairne Bloodhoof passes away of stress, and his son Baine succeeds him. The emergence of a more independent and isolationist Tauren policy heralds the sacking of Moonglade by Alliance infiltrators as a way to shatter Tauren unions with Night Elves. The Grimtotem Tribe are welcomed back into the fold as Mulgore becomes desperate to repel the Great Khan from their borders.
The Alliance withdraw to Tiragarde and Dustwallow proper to recuperate. Reports of Quilboar activity from the Razorfen Downs are ignored as the men and women of Northwatch return to secure their positions whilst the Alliance consolidates politically.
Genn Greymane dies of wasting sickness as his people - worn and off record for years - reach Feralas. His son and successor Liam Greymane founds New Gilneas and initiates a series of conflicts with Feathermoon Stronghold and the nearby Gordunni Ogres to secure further territory.
The Khan’s armies sweep aside the army at the Crossroads. A coalition of Grommash and Baine prepare to attack the contingent besieging Mulgore - the Centaur briefly dominate large parts of the Barrens.
June 618 (K.C) - Grommash and Baine crush the Khan’s main army when they are in pitched siege. The Khan’s authority is briefly crippled as he is forced to retreat across large swathes of the Barrens.
The Second Scourging begins when the Lich of Razorfen awakens the plagued Quilboar, having grown fat from the bloodshed of recent conflicts. Grommash and the Horde abandon the Barrens altogether, exhausted from fighting. Parts of the Barrens and Razorfen Kraul itself were subjected to plaguing. A great many feared the resurgence of the Scourge on Kalimdor to prepare for an invasion.
Daelin ordered the mobilization of the recently-arrived Dwarves and Gnomes, and Magni - eager to assent - lead the attack upon the Kraul.
The Cult of the Ashbringer became increasingly popular with it’s vision for a final salvation from the Scourge, particularly in threatened Theramore. Knights and patrons begun to emerge from the Alliance nobility and elite.
December 618 (K.C) - After a great many months bitter fighting, the Lich Coldbringer was supposedly slain by Magni himself within Razorfen. The Quilboar were scattered to the wind, most burnt at the behest of the victors to avoid the plague’s spread. Razorfen was left standing as the thorns receded in the Southern Barrens.
The victorious Dwarves and Gnomes were granted the right to establish the fortress of Bael Modan, and upon uncovering evidence of Titan intervention in the Barrens, Magni eagerly begun to expand. Falstad established a new aerie for the famed gryphon riders after many years of aimless wandering.
Mekkatorque and his people settled alongside their Dwarven cousins - later allegations Bael Modan was a ‘New Ironforge’ were not exaggerated
The Horde eventually re-settle the Northern Barrens, whilst Mulgore withdraws inward.
Anasterian Sunstrider leads his people in exodus to Hyjal, crafting for them a veiled city of Selama (‘Justice’ in Thalassian) to recover and rebuild.
July 628 (K.C) - A fully-recovered Alliance under an elderly Daelin invade Ashenvale and begin the Ashenvale War with both the Night Elves and the Horde. Galen Trollbane - now a seasoned general - is given the right to establish Thoradin’s Reach in the south of Ashenvale to cultivate the valuable lumber resources of the region.
Grommash establishes the Mor’shan Ramparts, going on to challenge the authority of the demigod Cenarius. The Night Elves retort with the Demigod in force, and Orcish forces quickly become entangled in a struggle with the very forest itself. Galen’s Rise suffers the first barbs of Night Elven scouts, as rumours of war with the fabled savages began to spread in Trollbane’s halls.
December 629 (K.C) - Daelin Proudmoore, frail with wasting sickness, passes away in Tiragarde, having been preparing the Alliance to intervene in the Ashenvale War before his death. His son, Tandred, is declared his successor.
Jaina Proudmoore and a vestigial faction of mages abandon the Alliance and make to settle Winterspring.
