Past Events
  • The Red Cataclysm
A catastrophic event that affected the entire continent. What started off as a mere, stunning meteor shower of red rocks, quickly turned into a massacre, as terrible monsters hatched from the rocks as if they were eggs. These creatures, later to be named Revelos, grew exponentially in strength as they hunted and ate other beings, quickly becoming a threat to all of humankind. Their powers, abilities and forms vary greatly, but the one thing they had in common was their bright red skin, dyed the colour of blood. Most had poor, beast-like intelligence, but those that had eaten thousands of humans began to show the intelligence of a child, an alarming feature to a land already struggling to survive.

Fortunately, a single mage appeared, travelling from city to city, he destroyed countless Revelos through brute magical strength alone. No one knows where he came from, or who he was, but he was the Hero of Aralis. He took on countless apprentices, revolutionizing magical knowledge as the continent knew it, and aided each kingdom equally as the leftover Revelos from the meteor shower were slain one by one.

Now, a hundred years later, the land is more or less at peace. Hundreds of statues of the hero were erected throughout the continent. Additionally, the Hero of Aralis did one last thing before he vanished, he founded an academy in the center of the continent with his only friend, Zale Randalla.

Map of Aes Aralis
full

"Aes Aralis, or simply Aralis, is the name of the continent in which this roleplay will take place. It is a land that glows and thrives with magic and mana, though it is still recovering from the cataclysm that occurred only a century ago."
  • Quidor
A pitiful kingdom that had a civil war only a few years before the Red Cataclysm, hence they were perhaps hit hardest by the attacks of the Revelos as they were much more unstable. However, despite this, the conflict between North and South Quidor only grows more distressing day by day.

    South Quidor Settlements:
Emesa (Capital of South Quidor/The Unbending City)
Emesa is well known as the centerpoint of culture and history within, and of, South Quidor, or at least what's left it. Between the events of the Red Cataclysm and the Civil War raged not long before, whatever historical scriptures or artifacts were left from when the North and South split find their way here. Within the walls of the city, the majority of the population is made up of artisans and intellectuals of both the arcane and mundane varieties. The people are well known for being welcoming, but incredibly stubborn when it comes to their disputes with the North.

The Historium is the most notable thing about Emesa. This large ornately crafted building functions as both an institute of higher learning in the capital, as well as a museum to house various artifacts and remnants of the past. Interestingly after this icon was built was when the city was given its nickname as the Unbending City, due to the unwillingness and sheer willpower of its people to cling on to whatever ideals they could, which eventually lead to the movement for preservation of knowledge and culture.

    Newhill
Newhill is a farming village just on the edge of the forests to the east of South Quidor. On top of the large crop harvests they produce for Emesa and the other major cities of South Quidor, they are also well known as the last stop on any new students journey to Randalla Academy. The town was originally founded as a way to increase food production after the revelos attacks had ceased and was one of the building blocks into renewed stability for South Quidor.

    North Quidor Settlements:
    Codville/Nachtigall Domain
    An isolated, family estate.

Randalla Academy
Randalla Academy
Welcome
"Unlike those other education facilities with glided exteriors and luxurious decor, Randalla Academy is not one for the faint of heart. Arduous training, spilt blood, skimming the fate of death, such things are common occurrences here at this academy. However, as I'm sure you all know, there is a valuable reason why we have our stellar reputation. Our methods have proven incredibly successful in creating world-renowned mages."

"For those that have chosen to apply despite knowing all this, I welcome you with open arms. The path ahead of you will not be an easy one. Regardless of whether you are courageous, foolhardy, or ignorant of how things are truly run here, we will nurture you into a powerful mage to be feared. Or perhaps... you may die during the process."

"Either way, I have spoken enough, I'm sure you have much you want to do during your first day on campus."

"Once again, I welcome you. To the Perilious Academy of Randalla."
-Headmistress Belladonna

Summary
Battle Mage Academy

Randalla Academy, otherwise known as the Academy of Perils, or the Perilious Academy, is a very well-known education facility throughout the continent of Aes Aralis. Young adults seeking to explore their magical worth from across the nations are welcome to apply to study here, regardless of their background and/or reputation. Though a magic academy, Randalla in particular is known for nurturing battle mages, ones that utilize magical prowess in combat, whether through offensive spells, defensive buffs or disrupting the enemy. An incredibly wide variety of combat or utility orientated magic can be learnt here, with the academy's functioning led by the distinguished Randalla lineage.

Infamy
Though well-known, Randalla Academy is not necessarily famous for good reason. Neither rich, high-class or prestigious, the academy is primarily known for its incredibly dangerous training regimes. Training frequently involves undertaking missions to dangerous lands, where life and death are the farthest from guaranteed. Even on campus, the methods for learning heavily focus on being pushed to the limit, to discover the potential that lies within. Many who have dropped out complain about their 'sadistic' and 'insane' methods, however, those that manage to endure through this training, and survive till the end, become incredibly successful.

Positive Fame
It is near fact that the mages that emerge from Randalla Academy are the strongest. Though the patriotic academies in other nations, funded by nobility/royalty, may try and say otherwise, it is undeniable the feats that their graduates have accomplished, and how frequently in international tournaments, they come on top.

Even Alfin Totael, the man known as the strongest Vorracian mage, who studied at his nation's own royal academy, said this:

"One randallian mage, is equal to three mages from anywhere else."

Perhaps it may be an exaggeration, and it likely doesn't account for every randallian mage, but it gave the continent a new view on Randalla Academy and its methods.

Habitat
: Auvaylian Forests
Size: Small, palm-sized

Small, palm sized owls that live in the forests of Auvayles. They are notoriously curious birds and relatively intelligent. Colorations are always primarily white with black or brown spotting. The hunt small snakes, tiny rodents, beetles, worms, and grubs primarily. They get their pipper nickname from the unique soft "pip pip pip..." sounds they make occasionally. Auvaylian folktales tell stories of pipper owls causing mischief by resting on the shoulders of hunters or travelers and whispering lies in their ears or screeching to scare off game.

Spiritual Gates
Magical locations where the barrier between the mortal realm and the spiritual realm is stretched thin, allowing beings from both sides to wander into the depths of the other. Though curious spirits can explore freely, ordinary humans cannot, unless they have a high degree of magical experience, as their bodies cannot withstand the almost pure magical aura of the spiritual realm.

Known Spiritual Gates:
  • Randalla Academy: Valley of the Fae
    • ???
  • North Quidor: Castle of the Fae
    • The lost royal castle of united Quidor, before its civil war. No one knows how/when it became a spiritual gate, since it was only discovered to have become so a few decades ago.
