Character Creation Guidelines

SilverFeathers

Ruler of the Sky
Character Creation:
  • Characters are limited to little or no prior combat/magic experience. This includes things like hunting, martial arts and self defence training.
  • All characters start off with a single elemental affinity, which will be their main source of magic. (At a later date, it will be possible to branch into other types of magic.)
  • No fantasy races for this roleplay please, purely human.
  • I will most likely lay out some rough world/geographical lore with kingdom outlines, but I expect you to add to this in your character's backstories. Free to make up cities/towns/villages/forests/mountains and whatnot. If you want to make the capital of ____ widely known for their clown displays and circuses, go for it. Would love to see how I can somehow get a diplomat of said kingdom to visit and show off some tricks...
  • If you plan to write about something major/already-existing in your character's backstory, it would be good to give a forewarning in the OOC chat, so that people do not write over each other's lore without meaning to.

(Remove everything in brackets. Also, feel free to use pretty code and what not. Just don't use tiny font because I personally hate it.)

"Headmistress Belladonna is perhaps the most mysterious and reclusive of the senior staff, despite her role and lineage. She is rarely seen on the academy's campus, only showing up in brief moments for notable events and assemblies. It is said that she was a prodigious child, grasping understanding of the most complex arcane constructs with ease at a young age. However, the depths of her knowledge and power remain unknown to the public, and her nickname, Belladonna, once earned through an incident hurriedly covered up by the higher ups in Vorracia, remains a mystery to all."

Barbarella Elise Andilet
Barbarella.jpg

Name: Barbarella Elise Andilet

Aliases: Barb, Bella

Age: 19 y/o

Gender: Female (She/Her)

Sexuality: Demisexual

Appearance: A pale, sullen faced girl with white hair and amber colored eyes. Her cheeks are dotted with small imperfections which often stand out more due to her constantly flushed complexion. Barb is 5’4” and weighs approximately 121 lbs. Her slim figure hasn’t filled out nearly at all, making her look a little younger than her age. Although pigtails are her go-to everyday look, at night she takes them out. Her hair falls just at her upper back, and her unkempt curly hair sticks out wildly- something she tries hard to tame, but can never seem to.

Personality: An exceptionally well mannered young woman, Barb is often seen as quiet and reserved when first introduced. She seems to get along better with those who are older than her, and is put out by people who are easily excitable. Despite this she does try to get along with everyone. She doesn’t like confrontation and doesn’t seek out drama, but she refuses to be talked down to and does get angered easily if she thinks someone is undermining her.

Because she is desperate to prove herself to others, she has a tendency to jump into situations she is not prepared for, more often than not biting off more than she can chew. On a brighter note however, she does enjoy encouraging those who are down on their luck, bringing out a somewhat motherly side that she doesn’t show too much. She’s honest and very down to earth.

Character flaws: Irritable, aloof, blunt, can be overly opinionated, stubborn, often undersells how dangerous a situation can be

Aspirations: Mostly a self-discovery journey. Barb comes from a family (And town) that is conservative in their ideals, and has more than once shut her down in her interests, and even feelings. They’ve enforced the idea that because she is a woman, she can’t have the experiences a man (Like her father, for example) is allowed to have. Barb wants more than anything to have a voice, although finding it is a bit more difficult than she would have thought. Despite believing that this academy will be her one ticket to prove her worth, she hasn’t come to realize just how brutal the environment can be.

Kingdom of origin: Vorracia

Bio:
Barb was born in Pincil, Vorracia on March 6th. Notably this town is known for its many tourist sights, innovative structures and somewhat large population, as well as the conservitave ideals and its production of wealthy men. From the start Barb was given the short stick, and she began to realize this the older she got. Her family was more than willing to buy into the views of the town of course. Her father worked as a blacksmith/ business man, selling his well crafted armor and weapons to travellers that came through Pincil. He made a good living off of it, able to support his small family with more than enough to spare. Her mother stayed home (As was expected of the women there) to take care of their daughter and teach her to do tasks around the house.

Although Barb was home schooled, she made a few friends around the neighborhood. She wasn’t ever lonely, but felt disconnected from her friends most of the time. It seemed many were ok with being kept quiet, and Barb knew that speaking her mind against the matter would make things worse. It wasn’t until she was eighteen when she heard about the academy. A story in a history book she had borrowed from the town’s library told the parable of an unknown hero who had conquered many Revelos, bringing some sense of safety to the places he visited and ultimately opening an academy for mages.

Using her powers was prohibited in her family specifically, and it was then that she decided she needed to go. She was tired of living her life practically as a shut in maid. She knew she could be more, and wanted desperately to escape the restricting confines of her family and hometown.

Skills: Sew, clean, cook, play the flute, good bedside manner for those who are sick

Weaknesses: Because Barb was expected to take up household chores only, her knowledge on anything else is quite limited. She doesn’t know how to fix everyday machinery, and is overall pretty useless in most situations. She’s never had to worry about any manual labor, so she isn’t as strong as she may want others to believe.

Elemental affinity: Fire

Favored mage type: Weaponed mage

Khestri Hale Belmont
Basics
Name: Khestri Hale Belmont
Aliases: Khessi [K-eh-see], Hale, Bell, Lady Belmont
Gender: Demi Girl [she/they]
Age: 18
Sexuality: Unsure about labels, but definitely not straight.

Appearance
ff7c2cbe970b95a7b2622b1a6c56.png

Persona
Personality:
Khestri is a protective person. They love to give back to those who have given to them, despite their upbringing. They are quick to tag along on adventures. Their life before the Academy was boring, and the anticipation of actually experiencing life rather than just luxury has given them the thirst for action. Standing still feels like a waste of time, and makes them feel as though they are wasting it. This can get them into some trouble; recklessness is high on the What Will Get Me Killed list.

They're nosy. Anything amiss will earn her inquisitive eye and swift solutions. Or attempts at solutions. According to her, Khestri and Khestri only knows what’s best. Khestri doesn’t dawdle on anything, and it can often lead them to act without the necessary precautions. Someone unaccustomed to obstacles standing in their way.

She loves the finer things in life. Though their eye is trained to stay on track, there’s something bird-like in the way anything that sparkles catches her attention, and then her heart. It’s best not to try to command her attention when around such things.

The lady Belmont is a lot of things — argumentative, sly, and a bit snarky — but she is not a pushover. Being raised as nobility was a blessing and a curse. They don't know how many times they've found servants to be a bit more manipulative than she liked. Sticky-fingered, condescending, and ignorant to who she was. Not her name, but who she was. None of them stayed very long, finding the budding noble to be a bit too keen on finding out what they were up to, all the while never falling an inch for their tricks and sickly sweet smiles. Khestri will stand their ground, with a look of disdain. Anyone who thinks her a fool has another thing coming.

Character Flaws: Nosy, domineering, careless.
Aspirations: To live an exciting life. Khestri wasn’t sure what plan their parents had for them, but the moment marriage was a subject, they took off. Certainly there’s more to life than finding someone to give a ring.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin: Ruiyol - they grew up a bit aways from the rest of the cities in Ruiyol, a location picked for her father’s hunting hobbies called Serith. A settlement her parents hope she will one day take hold of as their Lady Belmont.
Backstory: Khestri grew up in a noble family. One that gradually deteriorated to poverty. When she was born, it was into the lap of luxury. Everything came to them easily. They didn’t have to ask more than once for things, and other times all they had to do was stare longingly at an object for their parents to hand over a bulging coin purse. The deterioration took a couple steps into her pre-teen years for her to notice.

Khestri’s parents spent too willingly, and didn’t handle their land well, or their workers. Their business was going down hill, and they didn’t know how to bring it back up. They found more comfort in bottles than each other. Khestri learned very quickly how to get things done around the house. Pretending to be someone she wasn’t through a pen. Swiftly they began to forge notes and do their best to keep certain things moving. Khestri missed the gifts, but mostly they just missed the light in their parents' eyes, rather than the dread and the anticipation of finding themselves in less than livable conditions.

Noticing that their businesses were coming back to life due to some mysterious force, they gradually drew themselves from the bottle. Khestri’s father returned to his hunting, and a clever mention of, perhaps, monetizing his skills as a hunter, began to teach the young boys in the area to hunt, for a ‘small fee’.

Khestri decided that their mission was complete and began to focus on themselves. Their mother encouraged their passion of learning and the arcane, eventually convincing Khestri to either get a move on to the Academy, or to start looking for someone to fancy. Khestri, unable to tell if the latter was a joke, quickly rushed to gather information on the Randalla Academy and begin their transition.

Skills: Play piano (or something similar), how to forge documents and signatures, research, how to make small animal traps (on a scale of one to ten? Barely a five.), Finding information, Drawing (she saved her family's nobility by creating new furniture designs and an upgraded design to help the navy chart the stars and their locations better.), sewing (clothing and linens.)
Weaknesses: Cooking (it’s hard!), Actually hunting (their father didn’t teach them much, just a lousy trap for rabbits.), Not telling people what to do (can you blame her? She seems to be the only one who knows what’s going on! mostly.) Learning new skills (generally... if she doesn't get them immediately, she'll get upset.)

Luce Flynn
Basics
Name
: Luce Laurent Flynn
Aliases: Blademaster
Gender: Male
Age: 20-years-old.
Sexuality: Bisexual

Appearance
Faceclaim
: Luce is highly identifiable by his hair, a full and sharp coiff with a dark brown hue; only really made unique by the exaggerated copper racing stripe in his hair, often seen as proof of the Flynn bloodline (that is if his family had any real notoriety). His skin is a deep tan, as he's developed from the heat of the forge's fires; he's a far cry from the pale ghoul he was born as. He's often seen as intimidating because of his hooded eyes, often creating a naturally intense resting-bitch-face. He's slightly on the shorter side, and while he isn't quite skinny he makes up for that with a strong amount of muscle definition. This man doesn't skip leg day and it shows.

Persona
Personality
: Luce can be a difficult person to get a grasp of, as the way he speaks and acts can very often be contrary to itself. He is simultaneously polite and professional, but also infinitely smug and having that bastard energy. He's very often for one reason or another been referred to as a 'mood', whatever the fuck that means.
Character Flaws: Inconsistent, quick to anger, too much Ludus.
Aspirations: Having been raised by the famous Chariot Master, Apollo Flynn. Luce grew up in a forge, and spent a great deal of his life learning to work with metal. Still, despite having become a renown blade smith, he's not at the level he could be at if he knew magic.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin
: Vorracia

Backstory: Luce was born in the trade city of Vencil, Vorracia; a sister city to Pincil created to support the infrastructure of the highly profitable tourism. While Pincil was a city in which plenty of hands worked in metal and wood, any real smithy took up work in Vencil: home of the famous Chariot Master. Being his son, Luce was privy to the many secrets to structural metallurgy his father used to support the trade and architecture of Vencil and Pincil alike. Still, what Luce truly loved to create was armour and weapons; call it a longing for the concept of adventure.

It was when his blades hit the market in his mid teens that he slowly gained more renown, not dissimilar to his father. He carved a name for himself, and was visited by many many adventurers. He sucked in the stories, the tales of derring-do and heroic bloodshed. Even more, he networked a group of friends that he had a lot of fun partying away the most recent three years of his life with. One teaching him how to play single-reed instruments. Still, he wasn't content. Luce was set for his life, his weapons and armour becoming a tourist attraction of their own, he could live the rest of his life chucking together some stuff to sell for the first four days of the week and partying the other three all the way until his death. But with that line of work came an unfortunate price. Something that awakened him to what he truly desired: he wanted to venture out into the open world before this price rendered his body bankrupt.

Skills: Cooking, metallurgy, single reed instruments.
Weaknesses: Acute alcoholism, self-destructive/poor self-preservation.

Nina Simone Rivera
Basics
Name: Nina Simone Rivera
Aliases: None
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Sexuality: Pansexual

Appearance
Faceclaim:
Screenshot_20210814-180610.jpg
Persona
Personality: Nina is a sweetheart. At a first meeting she can be kind of awkward and strange. Maybe her openly kind demeanor can even seem suspicious to some. But- she has good intentions and she gets a lot better at talking you when you get to know her. She's extremely loyal, thoughtful and considerate, and she has this comforting vibe about her that makes her seem like the perfect person to project your insecurities on and use as a therapist- i mean confide in.
Nina appears to be rather naive. Nina doesn't seem to stem from ignorance– or a lack of knowing better. This blind trust in others seems to originate from a love of people. She wants to believe in everyone even if she's knows they are using her or if they are a bad person. (Though, admittedly she isn't the brightest bulb when it comes to logical decisions) There are many times when she knew she was being manipulated and she let it happen, so long as it didn't hurt someone else. She doesn't have very much self worth.
Nina also has a hard time conveying her feelings to people in general. She doesn't comprehend body language or social cues like most people do. Things like sarcasm and most humor can easily go over her head. But she's spent most of her life trying to hide her autism so she's learned how to laugh along with stuff she doesn't get. Which kinda makes her a good liar, it's an unfitting talent, to be honest. But she finds herself lying more than she'd like to admit. She also finds herself almost manipulating people when she's upset she usually corrects herself afterwards.
Character Flaws: Horrible at coping mechanisms, will willingly allow herself to be manipulated, doesn't understand social ques, hypocrite, not very logical, and naive.
Aspirations: She's only going to this school because her parents told her to. It's a tradition for the eldest in her family to go to this school.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin: Vorracia.
Backstory: Nina was born the eldest daughter of one of the wealthiest families in the capital of Vorracia. Known for their magical prowress and claiming to be the descendants of an apprentice of the Hero of Aralis. That came with expectations and responsibilities. Even some distain from her parents for not being a son.
Despite that, the family kept to their traditions of making the eldest the heir. So from a young age Nina was immediately thrown into etiquette training, homeschooled classes, and given many tutors. It was extremely overwhelming for Nina, which was worsened by the fact that every failure she had would be harshly punished by her mother. Such as picking up the wrong fork during dinner and then not being allowed to eat for the rest of the day. Or if she failed a test from one of her classes she'd be locked in an empty room with a book on the topic she failed and she wouldn't be allowed to leave until she could properly recite the section she failed.
And she was completely brainwashed into believing that the treatment she received was acceptable, and that she deserved it. The only person in her family that thought otherwise was her younger twin, Markus Lee. He would beg her to relinquish her title as the heir to him, to free herself from the expectations set upon her. But Nina refused everytime, she wasn't aware that she was being pushed harder than a normal heir because she was a woman and thought that Markus would be treated the same if she gave up. So she continued in with her training, thinking she was protecting her brother from suffering like her.
Now that she is 18 she will be sent to the same Academy that her father, and his father before him, and every eldest in her family before her attended. The only person to send her off with a goodbye was her brother. Bit that was enough for her.
Skills: Nina has a lot of book smarts, and she knows alot about magic, but only the written aspects. Like the history and records of some different spells. She knows advanced etiquette, how to quickly memorize things, and can disassociate on command!
Weaknesses: This girl needs help, like, immediate therapy. She's terrified of so many things, and has a lot of bottled up trauma. She also has a tendency to forget everything she's ever learn when put on the spot out of pure fear alone, and she's physically weak. Wesker than average thank to a lot of missed dinners in her childhood.

Magic
Elemental Affinity: Nature
Favoured Mage Type: Devastation Magic, something she can concentrate on without getting put on the spot.

Persona
Personality:
[Alignment: Chaotic Neutral | Myers-Briggs: ENTP | Enneagram: 7w6]

When the charisma of a deranged scientist meets the mania of a sylph. A bubbly and energetic figure, Asteria possesses a friendly mentality and an easy optimism. Effortlessly inclined towards casual sociability, there’s an extremely enthusiastic and carefree nature to her, and she’s often seen with a smile no matter how dissonant the scenario. The ability to adapt to her surroundings, no matter what they may be, with unerring positivity paired with a penchant of being loud, talkative, and always one to offer a bit of humor. Yet, her hyperactive demeanor belies a knife-sharp intelligence; despite whatever simple-minded, airy facade she may display, her actions are carefully crafted and she knows exactly what she’s doing.

Asteria wants things to be easy, and she will often seek out security and connections with others in order to bring this desire into fruition. Yet, while she’d hate to work harder on anything than she has to, she has a fear of missing out and will consequently seek excitement and gratification whenever possible. She tends to not take things as seriously as she likely should; difficult situations are faced with a comedic, slightly obnoxious air as she pushes forward a facade of childishness to annoy her foe. An impish demeanor.

Asteria genuinely cares greatly about the people she is close to. Despite a rampant hyperactivity that leaves her always amidst her own little world, she is supportive where it counts and is quick to lend a hand in aid (or some words of morally-questionable advice). She proves curious about other people and will express a desire to know more about them. Random gifts of junk food or silly doodles of both herself and the recipient are an inevitability.

While cheerful and easygoing the majority of the time, Asteria is quick to cackle, bare her teeth, and speak rather darkly whenever something (or someone) gets in her way. She can become surprisingly destructive -- a maelstrom of chaotic energy. Yet even when displaying acts of brutality, she manages to retain an affable demeanor. A jubilant and carefree tilt to her lips even when she’s one breath away from rage. It’s rare that her anger progresses past this point, yet when it does, there’s a certain vindictiveness to her: cold, angered, and annoyed. Pray that you never meet it.

Character Flaws: Violent, Airy, Morally-Grey, Insensitive, Hedonistic
Aspirations: For fun and profit! Randalla Academy is supposed to be exciting -- certainly not one of those stuck-up, froufrou schools where danger is balked at. Where’s the excitement in that? Regardless, honing her magical abilities has always been a deep-rooted interest of hers, and doing so at Randalla, of all places, is only a bonus. When she becomes a mage, she’ll be bringing in gold coins by the bucketfull.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin:
Ruiyol
Backstory: Even within the wealthiest nation of the continent, poverty festers between dilapidated corners and crumbling architecture: the abandoned corners of a grand, otherwise-picturesque city where the nobility turn a blind eye. Born in Ilmestys, the capital in the center of Ruiyol, to a family barely treading the line between minimal indulgence and utter poverty, Asteria was raised beneath a singular mantra: make do. Yet, her parents, perhaps recognizing the hopelessness of their situation, knew that they couldn’t raise a child under such circumstances, and by means legally-questionable at the very least, Asteria and her family were living in the middle ring of the city by her fifth year.

Asteria’s father was a hunter, and every month, he would take her to the forest and let her run wild. Climbing trees, jumping off hills, and bounding over streams. Hunting itself was beyond her, but taught her the basics of stealth and survival -- how to sneak up on game without rustling the leaves beneath, or how to taste the humidity in the air to predict the rainfall. Her mother’s occupation, on the other hand, was considerably more ambiguous -- a broker, of a sort, though not necessarily with physical items. She taught Asteria the value of a silver tongue, and she taught her well. Connections at school were already effortless -- sociable, even then -- but this? Provided a whole new wealth of opportunity.

Magic was always something that interested Asteria. Grand feats of fantasy that rested dormant in every being, easily accessible with only the correct tutor? She was all too interested, and the potential for money to be made was only a bonus. She scraped together every copper and silver coin she had, took odd jobs, studied and worked harder than ever before… and she made it in. By some wondrous, amazing, incredible miracle.

So… what now?

Skills: Acrobatics, Deception, Survival, Stealth, Persuasion.
Weaknesses: Can't stay in one place for too long, lazy when it comes to practical/academic matters, discouraged when things don’t come effortlessly, doesn't plan for the long-term.

Aliases: Elle, Ellie
Gender: Female
Age: 19 | October 1st
Sexuality: Bisexual

Appearance

46718715_p0.png
Persona
Personality
: Noelle is relaxed and collected in almost any situation, though as ever-changing as the breeze she has trouble keeping focus, particularly to things she perceives as boring or monotonous, even everyday tasks or chores. This brings about of stigma of laziness and aloofness about her when in reality, she's simply forgetful. Aside from that she's a very social girl, often bringing extra liveliness to any conversation she's a part of. She enjoys working with people and will always put others before herself.

Due to her upbringing, she is very naive about the darker sides of humanity, and fully believes that everyone deserves a second chance, no matter the circumstances. She's much more likely to attempt to persuade an enemy or adversary before slinging any spells.

Aspirations: The request of her mother and to find something a bit more thrilling and/or interesting in her life. Mainly self-fulfilled though.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin
: South Quidor
Backstory: Noelle was born and raised in the capital city of South Quidor, Emesa, where she was raised by her mother and father Joan and Alistair Ostberg, along with her older brother, Blaine. Sadly she never knew her father, as he had passed away shortly after she was born. Her mother was an aspiring politician rising up through the city council, though outside of that her mother didn't talk about work much. For the most part Noelle lived a normal life, slightly more upper class than most within Emesa, but still not incredibly wealthy.

As time passed and Noelle grew out of her childhood, her mother began teaching her about the inner workings of the council and the city, though Noelle had no interest in becoming a politician, she did at least try for her mothers sake. As more time passed and the gap between the North and the South widened to dangerous levels, Noelle's brother eventually left to join the military, in fear of an upcoming civil war. Her mother began fearing for the safety of Noelle, and thusly made a request to be accepted into Randalla Academy, which Noelle happily obliged. She had never really liked being sheltered in the city or wanted to become a politician, so learning magic was infinitely more interesting to her. Thus she packed her bags and was sent on a carriage off to the Academy.

Skills: Calligraphy - Her handwriting is immaculate due to her mothers training in scribing.

Public Speaking - She's seen her mother give enough speeches to write an encyclopedia about it. Even if she much prefers casual conversation, she can still "flip the switch" so to speak.

Cooking - Though she dislikes doing it, Noelle is a surprisingly good cook. The hard part is actually getting her motivated enough to start the process.

Weaknesses: Passive - Aside from when she's helping others, Noelle will keep to herself when conflict arises unless it directly involves her. The easiest way to deal with a problem is to pretend it doesn't exist for a while and eventually forget about it.

Focus - Noelles attention span will vary from completely uninterested to absolute necessity depending on her mindset (or how long she procrastinated for) that day.

Niklaus Nachtigall
KLAUS

Basics
Name
: Niklaus Nachtigall
Aliases: Klaus, Nik
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Appearance
General Description:

Klaus has snow-white hair that contrasts nicely with the radiant warmth of his hazel eyes, serving to frame the sharp, angular features of his face. This him appear older than he really is — and somewhat intimidating, considering his height.

A unique piece of clothing he possesses is a piece of tight-fitting black cloth is secured around his neck, extending to cover his right shoulder and most of his upper arm, with only the bicep being visible. Further down each arm, he has separated black sleeves made of the same cloth, reaching down his entire forearm. The right arm's sleeve transitions into a glove that covers only his thumb, index, and middle finger; however, this transition isn't present on the left sleeve.

Klaus also wears a sleeveless Nagagi that exposes a decent portion of his upper chest, tucked into an Obi-secured Hakana. Over the Nagagi, he wears a Haori that's tucked into the Obi belt, but not the Hakana, the robe extends slightly past his crotch at certain points. This allows Klaus to take either one or both arms out of the Haori, letting the upper portion of the robe hang behind him as a waist-cape. On certain occasions, he may take his arms out of the Nagagi's armholes and allow it to rest freely on his waist as well. However, due to its length, it does not hang like his robe - it simply blends in with the rest of the fabric at his waistline, right above where it's secured by the Obi.

Persona
Personality:
"I need to be perfect—the pinnacle. Nothing less will suffice." At its most extreme degree, this is an unhealthy mindset to perpetuate. For Klaus, this is all he knows. A competitive extremist, there is a particular way he carries himself when interacting with others. Usually, even if only through subtle body-language, Klaus will treat others as rivals, no matter the situation. Through his eyes, everyone is trying to win at life. Each and every individual who has had the resolve not to sit down and wallow in the dirt obviously deserves recognition as a threat. This makes Klaus incredibly hesitant to form meaningful relationships with others. While he otherwise remains rather sociable, anyone seeking to unlock the door to his inner feelings will discover an impregnable stone wall. True friends, for Klaus, are one in a million. Due to his refusal to open up to others, people can only get so close to him. However, he remains cordial towards the majority of the people he interacts with. In fact, Klaus is extremely boisterous and lively in most scenarios, engaging in cheerful banter and conversation - to the point where it may become overbearing. He actively seeks out others to get on good terms with them, desiring to get acquainted with them. Even though his trust remains absent, there's no hatred towards anyone without reason. He simply sees them as either like-minded "collaborators" in situations wherein they must work together, or as friendly rivals.

This absolute distrust of others, luckily, makes manipulation an unattractive strategy against Klaus. He's a tough nut to crack, with mental fortitude that has been refined over the years due to his own inner torment and emotional seclusion from his family. Caution is an important virtue that he cherishes, having protected him from otherwise hazardous scenarios dozens of times. He's particularly attuned towards reading people's intentions. After only talking to them for a few minutes, he can usually get a good idea if they're genuine about the conversation or simply desire to use him in order to further their own goals. Even if they are genuine, he can't help the lingering fear, keeping his guard up nonetheless.

His cockiness and pride refuses to blossom into condescending arrogance, specifically due to his openness towards critiquing himself and refusal to belittle those who are inferior in skill or ability. It's "I'm so amazing!" rather than "I'm more amazing than you!" He holds respect for everyone greater than himself and aims to use their capabilities to measure and improve upon his own. Such respect remains even after he has surpassed them, as he continues to view them as spiritual equals who deserve acknowledgement for their own, unique accomplishments.

He aims to be the best, but he's not, and he'll remain diligent until then. Such diligence is what has allowed his confidence to grow so substantially in the first place, after all. His vanity in his accomplishments isn't something he tries to hide—praising his own skill and aptitude whenever he has the chance. While his own moral principles are an apt enough deterrent against disparage against others, his self-centered nature is yet another method. He's too focused on his own improvement to even consider disregarding someone else's worth. Even though Klaus definitely enjoys acknowledgement and praise from others for his accomplishments, the one he seeks approval from the most is himself.

With that said, losing at anything is absolutely soul-crushing for him, usually leading into a situation where he feels he needs to prove his worth. He is his own worst critic, through and through, accepting his own inferiority and the seemingly infinite mountain that he'll need to scale before he reaches the peak.

Character Flaws:
See personality.

Aspirations:
If it wasn't already obvious, Niklaus motivations for attending the academy are to improve both himself and the family name. Such dangerous conditions are the ideal environment to grow as quickly as possible, while simultaneously conditioning Klaus for dangerous scenarios.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin
:
North Quidor. For a large portion of his life, Niklaus lived on the grounds of an isolated estate with his family. This estate, referred to as the Nachtigall Domain, contained many facilities and covered all of the necessities that a family would have. A majority of the things he's been taught have been within the domain, with private tutors and his parents being the primary source of learning throughout his early life.

Backstory:
The youngest of three other brothers, Klaus' was immediately thrown into a family that aimed to prepare him for a bright future. Their methods in doing so, however, hoped to turn the four brothers against eachother. Conceived in Northern Quidor, his family had acquired massive amounts of wealth through a successful trade entrepreneurship that had been passed down from the previous generation, allowing Klaus' mother and father to live comfortably with little to no worry about the future. However, Klaus' parents desired more for the family's name, deciding that they'd create an ideal individual of their own blood, born to prosper at Randalla Academy and develop into an individual who would guarantee that their name would go down in history. From a young age, Klaus' father, Sebastian, made it abundantly clear that only the best of them would succeed. His parents taught him to forgo familial love, looking only towards his brothers with disdain. For him to succeed, they would need to fail. Intelligence, of course, was the primary test that Klaus' parents put him and his brothers through, which was what allowed Klaus to become so hard-working. This extended to other skills as well, such as cooking, sewing, and general athleticism between the four brothers. Underhanded tactics and attempts of sabotage weren't uncommon either, as each brother worked hard to secure their spot at top.

Eventually, of course, a decision had to be made. At the age of 15, Klaus' parents had decided that he was prime child out of the four. This revelation, of course, both angered the brothers and instilled pride within Klaus. He had done it. He had succeeded. His giddy laughter was not directed towards his brothers, but to the sky above. He had worked so hard to achieve this, why wouldn't he revel in the moment? While, for so many years, the brothers were aware that one of them would be chosen, there was no indication as to what would happen to the other three. After failing to come out on top, the other three brothers were exiled from the family. Having been both stripped of their names and shipped off to Vorracia, it was an incredibly cruel fate — much more cruel than Klaus had anticipated, in fact.

The new three years were dedicated, primarily, to self-reflection. He was still being taught by his family, but he also was given a lot more free time as they waited to send him off to the academy. Overwhelming guilt lingered in his mind, but he did not regret the effort he put in to achieve his position as the best out of the brothers. The disdain that had previously been directed towards his brothers was now entirely redirected towards his parents.

The fate that his brothers had met was a terrible one, but there was nothing that Klaus could do about it. He could only wonder who exactly his brothers held their hatred towards now—his parents, or him. Either way, he wasn't sure if he could bear meeting them again, especially as the years continue to go by. Nevertheless, he had made up his mind. Klaus had a new resolve: he was doing this for himself, not his parents.

His 18th birthday came to rather quickly, leading directly into his departure for the academy. As he left, he didn't look to his parents, and his parents only cared enough to send him off with a simple goodbye. There were no feelings. Nothing. There never were, after all. They only ever saw Klaus as a tool.

Klaus is going to redefine the Nachtigall name. Through his own strength, he will represent his family, separating himself from his parents. His passion and unwavering defiance will ensure his success.

Skills: Klaus has extensive book knowledge and history. Both reading and writing are strong suits of his, primarily due to how intensely he focused on his studies. He also has decent cooking knowledge and general physical ability.

Weaknesses: He doesn't have any knowledge when it comes to foraging or hunting, only being capable of working with resources that have been provided to him with guidance. Along with this, he rarely ever has gone outside the Nachtigall domain - he has absolutely no street smarts at all. While he has knowledge of how the outside world functions, he's never actually experienced it.

She wondered what lies in the other part of the world other than snow and freezing water.

Helina_1.jpg

Persona
Personality
: Who Helina was and who she is today are two different answers. Before the tragedy at Mignar castle happened, she was soft spoken, playful, and a bit head strong. Like other kids her age she saw the world as a place full of wonders to be discovered and looked forward to leaving the forest to make friendships with interesting people, go on an adventure of her own, and make her mark on the world. Now, Helina thinks the world is cruel and unforgiving. People are cowardly and selfish, herself being no exception. Helina despises who she is and is desperate to change herself. She wants to become powerful enough to not need to hide anymore and to be capable of protecting those she cares about--not that she has many people left to care for. As long as people don't hold her back or try slowing her down, she won't have a problem with them, but she's not attending Randalla Academy to make friends. She's strictly there to learn how to cast magic and how to kill a Revelos.
Character Flaws: Cold, Cynical, Stubborn, Impatient
Aspirations: Helina has already seen just how dangerous the world can be. Her quest for revenge will inevitably put her in grave danger, and she knows it. She needs the power to defeat her enemy and she feels Randalla Academy is the best place for her to gain that power.

Biography
Kingdom of Origin
: Auvayles
Backstory: Though Auvayles is technically a kingdom, united under a single crown, Auvayles' royalty holds far less power than those in other kingdoms. The union of the old clans has allowed them to maintain their independence from Vorracian expansionism, but the noble clans were never thrilled with the idea of saving themselves from the rule of one tyrant by swearing to another. Auvaylians preferred to be left alone to live their lives free from outside influence, and electing a king could put that way of life at risk. Still, they had little choice in the matter, so they gritted their teeth and did what was necessary at the time. In exchange for their fealty, the old clans made sure they would still hold the majority of the political power when combined.

The Mignar family is one of many old clans turned nobles. Historically they've been most well known for producing several powerful healers and mages that fought to push back invaders, but the Mignar are also well known for owning a large swath of Auvayles' land for just one family, encompassing just over half of the entire northern forest. While it is common for the Auvaylian noble families to abstain from foreign politics, Mignar has uniquely been absent from internal politics for the last couple generations as well. It started when Helina's grandfather began to make claims that he was a direct descendant to the Hero of Aralis. Predictably so, he was laughed out of court, and with every passing week he grew more and more mad. Thoroughly embarrassed, the Mignars withdrew from the courts and cloistered themselves deep within their cold and quiet forest. As more time passed, stories began to be told by the villages bordering the forest that the forest was so lonely and quiet that it would drive you mad. Mothers used the stories to scare their children from wandering off alone into the forest, but soon the idea that the forest was actually cursed started to be taken seriously by people. Now, most people avoid it just to be safe. The crown still receives what little taxes it's owed from people, who have lived and worked on the Mignar family's land since before the scandal, acting as messengers. So far, no one has bothered to investigate if the Mignars are even still alive. If someone had checked, though, the belief that the forest was cursed would only grow stronger.

Helina's early childhood was uneventful. She, her four siblings, and her cousins all played hide and sneak in the forest, learned how to read and write, helped take care of their bedridden grandfather, and helped their family attend to managing the few small villages that worked the land. They listened to fun stories about the Hero of Aralis and members of the Mignar family fighting to protect their land and people with powerful magic. Helina could always tell that something wasn't quite right because every time their grandfather tried talking about the Hero of Aralis or magic one of their relatives would divert the topic to something else. The adults respected him, or at least his position, but they always kept the interactions with him as brief as they could be. She never thought he was unpleasant to be around during the day, but the terrors he had in the night scared her.

A month after she had turned 12, she awoke to the worst terror she had ever heard. It wasn't just her grandfather. People all around the castle were screaming. Blood curdling screams. The forest had never been this loud before. Terrified, she hid in her best hiding spot in her room. There she waited, clutching her ears, until the screams stopped. Still paralyzed with fear, she stayed hidden. When the screams fell quiet she could hear heavy steps pacing the halls. It entered her room searching for its next victim. She saw through the crack in her hiding spot flashed of bright red flesh, but the crack was too small to see much else, and she didn't dare move to get a better look. The beast snorted at the air, obviously scanning for more prey. For a moment, she knew she was next, but to her shocked the creature never sniffed her out. In the distance a strange horn sounded softly, and immediately the red beast ran out of the castle. Helina waited another minute before leaving her hiding spot. As she walked the halls of the castle in a daze, calling for her parents the smell of blood filled her senses.. The castle and the forest, were silent. More silent than they had ever been. She knows she found everyone that day as she searched the castle grounds, but she can't remember the images. She can't let herself remember them.

Among that horrific scene, not everything was painted in death. Helina was not the only person to survive the castle attack by hiding. Two of her cousins, an uncle, and an aunt survived as well. They leaned on each other for support, but there would be no healing for the trauma. Filled with guilt and rage, Helina demanded they hunt down this beast, but her aunt and uncle rejected the idea. They had all seen what happens to those that try fighting it and had no intentions on joining the others. And besides, they needed to rebuild if they were going to maintain the family position as nobility. Helina refused to take no as an answer and went over her guardians' heads by writing directly to Randalla Academy requesting they admit her. She had heard the stories about the red beast the Hero of Aralis had defeated and of the academy he built. She planned to go there and learn how to find and kill the beast that had murdered her family, but Randalla Academy rejected her. She was too young. Try again when you're older, they wrote back to her. So every year she wrote them pleading that they give her an exception, and every year they rejected her. Until, this year. While she's still technically only 17, they agreed that since she would turn 18 during the first week of attendance that she would finally be allowed to attend Randalla Academy.
Skills: Helina has learned a good deal about herbal medicine. She's particularly talented at making herbal teas that can cure whatever ails you be it insomnia, fever, or just the cold of winter. She's also good at not being found when she doesn't want to be. She knows how to ride a horse, read and write, and used her literacy to spend the time she wasn't able to learn magic studying folktales and legends about the Revelos in anticipation of one day hunting them. Helina's most unique talent, though, is that she seems to be a walking human compass. She pretty much always knows what direction she's facing and has an easy time getting un-lost should she ever become lost.
Weaknesses:
- Reckless - Helina's impatience gets the best of her at times, and she tries acting tougher than she actually is but jumping into situations she's not prepared to handle.
- Traumatized - Helina has never gotten over the terror of that fateful day. She a very light sleeper as a result and rarely gets a full night's rest. This means she's often not able to perform at 100%. This also means she's guaranteed to lock up from fear should she ever encounter a Revelos before she's learned to actually heal some of the trauma.
- Loner - Not being able to accomplish something on her own just means she's not strong enough yet.
