Physical Description: Max is a flighty, often nervous looking boy of Ashkenazi Jewish and French descent. He is not tall, but not particularly short either; skinny, but not overly so. His chestnut brown hair falls in uneven, upturned waves, accepting his youthful appearance. His eyes are a dull blue, round and open with curiosity. He is pale, and blushes easily, and if you look closely he has a faint dash of freckles across his nose.
His clothes are often new and on-brand, indicating his family is relatively wealthy, but "fashionable" is not quite the word to describe it. He dresses with an outdoorsy vibe, always carrying a leather messenger bag full of sketchbooks, pencils and pressed flowers.

Caroline Berkowitz, 41.
Faceclaim: Kristen Schaal.
Max's mother. Art teacher and special education aide at Radcliffe Elementary. Like her son, she is Deaf. A sunshiny and extroverted woman, she fits her role as an elementary school teacher perfectly.

Well-known Facts: Max is Deaf since birth. He is trilingual: he can read and write both English and French, and can read lips for both. He can also speak, but has a deaf accent that is a bit harsh for hearing people to get used to at first. He strongly prefers ASL as his language of choice, but will resort to reading lips and speaking if pressed. He's a shelf stocker at the local bookstore.
History: Born in a small town down south, it was no surprise when the pediatric audiologist informed his parents their new baby was Deaf. After all, his mother was before him. Max was raised with one foot in Deaf culture and one in the world of the hearing. He was taught ASL first, of course, but also speech by a professional speech therapist. His mother was reticent to the idea at first, having had bad experiences in speech therapy herself, but Max felt safe learning this new method of communication. It certainly helped him a lot when it came time for him to start attending school.... well, a little anyway. He ended up getting bullied pretty harshly throughout elementary school, mostly behind his back since he couldn't hear to defend himself. His Deaf accent, trouble reading lips, and overall nerdy and offbeat personality all made him a target for schoolyard harassment.

He moved to Radcliffe with his family when he was 12 years old. His father had been offered a significant job promotion that required the move. Lost in this new town, Max started to isolate himself more and more, spending most of his time learning abiut plants. Botany became his passion, his comfort throughout the crippling loneliness that followed him into his teens.

Now a junior at Radcliffe High, he's known as a quiet and reserved kid, stuck in his daydreams and his sketches and cut off from his peers because of his disability. Will this year be a new start?

She is short, and very thin, her willowy legs often covered by high white stockings. She's frequently seen on a pair of 1980s roller skates, which she swaps out for high-top sneakers at school.
Her looks are in direct contrast to her feisty, upfront personality, and many are quick to misjudged her based on them.

Well-known Facts: Ivy is a foster kid who just moved into Redcliffe.
History: An orphan from a Russian orphanage, Ivy was adopted to the US by a wealthy family in Washington DC. Her early years started out pretty normally: she was an intelligent, imaginative toddler with a noticeable gift for music right from the start. She would sing along to her favorite cartoons, the radio, and once she was old enough, her own CD collection.

Then school started.

The transition from a happy little childhood at home to a chaotic flood of her peers was a breaking point for Ivy. Starting in first grade, she was constantly in academic suspension for starting playground fights, being disruptive and argumentative in class, and having emotional outbursts that were nearly impossible to control.

She started working with a therapist at age 7, and it would be 7 long years of little progress before her "family" decided that the shame of her behavioral problems was too much for their reputation to handle. So they had her sent back into foster care with hardly a goodbye.

Abandoned and torn from everything she ever knew, she wound up in a foster home in Radcliffe where she stays to this day.

Samantha is normally quite laid back, however, she does tend to have a temper. Though being the one to stand up for someone different than her, she’s fully aware of the looks that people give her. She always takes these looks with a grain of salt, but she never lets them get to her. theo isn't as muscular as, say, a football player, but he doesn't look like he could snap over someones knee like a toothpick. he's somewhere in the middle; he makes a habit to go for runs after school (and school activities that he participates in) and he does some weights sometimes, but its really just the bare minimum for health reasons.

once he got into an actual school, he became extremely social, trying to be friendly with as many people as possible. he fit in mostly with a nerdier group of people, but he also was a fan of heading to parties and hanging around sports games. he had a lot of energy; getting involved and going to school events, most of which social, ended up being a way to get rid of excess (and to avoid his anxiety; he has a bad habit of practicing distractional avoidance rather than actually facing things). he liked keeping himself busy. during his freshman year, he started to spend his summers helping his mom with whatever work she happened to be doing at the time, working as an unofficial intern. he ended up becoming a tutor when he reached his sophomore year of high school, and it ended up being one of his favorite things to do (not to mention it looked good on transcripts). college-wise, he applied to around 3 schools, and currently is waiting on responses from them.

Build: Tessa is pretty muscular due to her years doing timber sports and a rigorous workout routine that she tends to do with her father, not to mention her habit of relieving stress by hanging around the weight room.

Physical Desc.: Tessa is 6"2 with brown hair and eyes. She usually wears her hair down when just chilling, but puts it up in a pony tail when she is doing work, whether its working backstage or working out. Surprisingly for all the work she does, her hands aren't calloused; she makes sure to take good care of them to avoid it.

Body Mods/Scars: She has a small stick-and-poke tattoo that one of her old friends did when they were hanging out; its sloppily done, but you can tell that its a small heart. Its on the back of her left shoulder. She has pierced ears, and she has a few scars on her hands and arms from various accidents.

Clothing: Tessa likes to wear tanktops and unbuttoned flannels, along with a good pair of jeans and hiking boots. Usually, the sleeves of the flannels are rolled neatly up to her elbows, and she seems to be uncomfortable when they aren't. As someone who grew up incredibly scrawny, Owen is quite happy to flaunt the build puberty and hard-work blessed him with. Although he isn't ripped by any means, he does make an effort to exercise plenty and watch his diet, granting him a moderately rockin' bod (his own words).

physical description
Owen has slightly wavy dirty blond hair that he rarely puts much effort into styling. A simple comb through has always done the trick, he says, but that's a fat lie because his hair constantly looks unkempt. He's usually seen with a slight tan thanks to the time he spends outdoors and a surprising lack of freckles and blemishes. The exception, of course, being the blemishes constantly beneath his eyes that makes it seem like he's permanently sleep-deprived (he is). His eyes are a striking slate blue, a feature he likes to accentuate through clothing.

He does have a few piercings, but he's rarely ever seen wearing them. If ever, he's seen wearing simple studs in his ears. He has one single tattoo but it's so small he barely considers it one. It simply says "ow" on his wrist in his friend's really bad handwriting. They both got shitfaced at a party and decided to fuck around with a diy tattoo kit. Long story short, he got his own name tattooed on his wrist but made his friend stop after deciding it hurt too much, ironically leaving him with just "ow." Owen is one who doesn't care too much about what he wears but puts in just enough effort to not look like a slob. For the most part, Owen is pretty non-violent, but he's known to not take shit about his close friends and family. He's quick to resort to violence anytime his friends or family are mentioned in a bad light. He's been in trouble quite often for picking fights anytime someone brings up his momma in a negative way. He's pretty known for sleeping during most of his classes. It's a huge part of why he's so horrible at school (another well-known fact) but never quite stops. His mom is very involved in sex work and has quite the reputation for being a 'whore,' a reputation that has followed her own children.

Owen was born to a couple who's marriage was doomed to fail. His father was an older man and his mother a young woman naive enough to think the abusive man she was running towards couldn't be worse than the abusive parents she was leaving behind. She gave birth to Owen, the first of four children, just a few months after their wedding, when she was only seventeen years old. She did her best to provide for her son despite the situation, but nonetheless, Owen would grow up in a neglectful home. His mother would spend the day at work, slaving away every day for hours to keep the family fed and her husband content enough to not beat her. His father stayed at home, drunk or high or both, and with a lot of rage to take out on his wife and child.

The abuse was a constant and daily occurrence for both him and his mother, but things changed when his mother gave birth to his sisters. From the very beginning, Owen was fiercely protective of them. He took on a maternal role as soon as he was old enough to. With a working mom and an incompetent father, he learned to make meals and wash clothes and care for his sisters the way his parents weren't able to. Much of his life was spent making sure they had the best one they could despite the circumstances, but he regrets nothing. He, his siblings, and his mother grew up with an incredibly strong bond because of the pain they'd endured together. Owen learned early on that it was easier to deal with the abuse through distraction. So, he did. He dedicated his life to protecting his siblings, because anything was better than focusing on the reality of the situation. He learned to fake a smile and lie through his teeth because anything was better than being sent away, separated from his family.

Their entire lives all changed when his mother became pregnant for the fourth time, when Owen was fourteen years old. Through years of hard work, she had managed to scrape by enough cash to finally leave her abusive husband. Heavily pregnant and with three children, she moved all the way to Radcliffe, determined to clean her slate and start a new life for the Bostwick family. And start a new life, they did.

Things had been difficult, though. Heavily pregnant and dealing with the emotional trauma of the long-time abuse she had endured, it was hard for his mother to find a job. They spent the early months of their new lives in Radcliffe at homes for women and children until she was back on her feet. After the birth of her youngest son, they moved into a house on the poorer side of town, where they reside to this day. His mother, despite the freedom she had been given, turned to the bottle to deal with her trauma. Without a proper education and her newfound alcoholism, she continued to struggle finding a job. The only places she was ever hired paid minimum wage, hardly enough to provide for their family of five. A relatively young, attractive woman, she eventually discovered sex work and it paid tenfold. Desperate to provide, she agreed, something she actively doesn't discuss with her children, though the elder ones have suspicions.

Owen, too, dealt with the trauma the best he could. He took advantage of the clean slate moving had given him. Denial and distraction, a coping mechanism he was all-too-familiar with, he decided, was the best way to start fresh. He boxed away the trauma of his past and moved on, focusing on anything but it. He made friends, found passions, built up a life and a reputation for himself that he could be proud of. In high school, he changed completely, and decided to have fun. To make up for the fun and excitement his childhood had been robbed of. He became reckless. Desperate, even. For attention? To forget? He doesn't even know.

Deep down, though, he's just lost. He isn't sure where he belongs in the world. He isn't sure how to act or what to feel and he's scared because he thinks he'll never feel love or happiness that isn't forced. And now that it's senior year, he's more scared than ever, because he has no idea what happens next. Nonetheless, he's trying his best, and is desperate to make the year the best possible.

Kaleb is new in town, so probably not much is known about him at the moment, other than the fact that maybe a few people have seen him stopping to feed stray cats around town. He hasn't been caught stealing anything yet, but really its only a matter of time; he's trying to leave a good first impression on most people in the area and is trying to keep himself in check in terms of getting into fights and taking shit. Its possible people have run into him, though.

Kaleb was born in the coastal town of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

His father was a police officer at the time, and his mom an accountant. Later in his life, when he was about six, his father ended up becoming chief. Things were going well until when he was 9 and his mother filed for a divorce. Later that year, his mother moved to a different town with his father getting full custody. His mom, he later learned, hadn't even tried to get partial custody. So, he grew up with his dad. Often times he was left home alone due to his dad being busy, but he was fairly well-behaved (in most ways), albeit bored, ending in him taking up a variety of activities including theft, admittedly with some of them being attempts to get attention from his dad. He didn't know many kids around the town despite living there for his whole life, so he kept to himself.

Earlier in the current year, his house in Cape Elizabeth ended up going up in flames, for reasons unknown. His father was inside at the time, and unfortunately didn't make it out. With his guardian now deceased, it was decided that he would be put under the care of the next willing relative. His mother, unsurprisingly, said no, so he ended up moving to Radcliffe with his grandmother to complete his high school career there. Its been a few months and he's still sort of dealing with all of that still, but has decided to disclose none of it to current classmates or other people in the town; he isn't interested in the pity, nor is he interested in seeming like he's fishing for sympathy. He just wants a normal first year in Radcliffe, preferably with as little trouble as possible.

⟶ Célian, who goes by Cian for the simple-minded Americans who can't bother to learn his real name, is a foreign exchange student from France studying in America to "improve his language skills" and "discover another culture." (He's, like, 80% sure his mother sent him as punishment but... it's fine. Truly.) He's currently living with a host family. Other than that, not much is really known about him. He's very new to town, having only been around about a month.

History ⟶ Célian was born and raised in Nice, France.

His father is a pilot who was absent for a large part of both of his children’s childhoods. Nonetheless, he was practically worshipped by his two boys. He would be away for months and come home for short times only to shower the family with gifts before he was gone again. His mother was a lawyer who, while she was absent during much of the day, dedicated all of her free-time to her children. As a successful woman, she wanted the same for her children, and enrolled them both in the best private schools and hired expensive tutors, expecting nothing but the best from them both.

Because of the rather harsh expectations she had set on them both, Célian and his brother Bastian grew up very competitive. Both determined to outshine one another, they did their very best in school. Both brought back excellent grades and glowing reviews from their teachers. Célian, however, was always outshadowed by his brother. He was constantly being one-upped and, as a result, stopped trying around 2ème (read: 8th grade).

After disappointing his mother by bringing home bad grades, she enrolled him in the exchange student program to have him sent to America to ‘better improve his language skills’ and ‘engross himself in American culture’ and whatnot. While he was sure those were all excuses to have him, a known disappointment to the family, sent away for some time, he accepted purely so he’d have some alone time.

He arrived in America just a month or so before school started and has been living with a host family since his arrival. He’s still dealing with a bit of culture shock after moving to an entirely different country but he has experienced enough of America in his month there to know that he hates it and can’t wait to return home. He wholeheartedly believes he can be sent home earlier if he acts up enough… So that’s what he’s doing.

Frankie and his family moved to Radcliffe when he was about eight years old after his dad received a job offer at the local fire station. A new kid in a new town, Frankie was eager to make friends. He met Charlie shortly after arriving in Radcliffe and the two soon became best friends. He discovered his passion for the outdoors and surfing when he was very young and spent most of his childhood at the beach or attached at the hip to Charlie.

His life had been pretty uneventful until he was about fourteen years old and his dad was diagnosed with cancer. He spent the year taking on summer jobs and doing his very best to help pay for treatments but he ended up losing the battle nearly a year later anyway. He's been having a hard time ever since. Still hasn't properly grieved and somewhat blames himself for not doing enough to save him but he's doing his best!! If you pretend you're not sad eventually it will be true ... Haha.

Physical Description: Jace is pale skinned and somewhat athletic, with a physique well suited to running and climbing. Or playing tag. Whichever. His wavy hair is a golden blonde, kept relatively short but long enough to have bangs just over his eyes. It's almost always at least slightly messy, as if it had been rustled by some errant breeze, causing some rebellious strands to stray from an otherwise neatly parted hairstyle. With most of his bangs sweeping across the left side of his forehead and hanging just off from his left eye. Framed beneath those bangs are a pair of piercing, icy blue eyes set upon a sharply intelligent face. A face some might even describe as handsome. Or cute, given his typically playful mannerisms. Finally his hands are notable for their dexterity. With long, graceful fingers that would suit a pianist. Although Jace doesn't play the instrument himself. At least, he hasn't since he was little.

As for his clothing, Jace likes to have a mix of formal and informal in his available wardrobe. He almost never goes out into public without a blazer, usually black, and pretty much exclusively wears jeans of varying colors. If dark blue and black can be considered variation. His shirts however are much more diverse. From simple t-shirts of various emotes and brands to button up shirts that wouldn't look out of place at dance, what Jace wears underneath his blazer depends on what he feels like wearing that day. Although he'll usually wear a t-shirt underneath whenever he chooses more formal options anyways. Regardless, he never ever tucks the shirt(s) into his pants. Arthur Rose: 45 years old, Jace's father. He is a couple inches shorter and has a somewhat wider build than the young man he raised, but for the most part it's easy to see a familial resemblance between them. Although Arthur's eyes are green. Arthur is a fairly successful businessman, typically dealing in financial consultation and investment. His frequent business meetings tend to drag him all over the country, keeping him out of the house a lot of the time. However he has managed to maintain a decent relationship with his son, partially due to the fact that Jace doesn't mind having the house to himself. Although he sometimes becomes frustrated at Jace's lack of work ethic.

Scarlet Rose: 42 years old, Jace's mother. She's about 5'8", with a slender figure similar to her son. Her eyes are just like his, but her hair is a fiery red. Wavy and long, extending down to her shoulders. Age has treated her well, and she's often mistaken as being in her thirties. Scarlet has lead a successful career as an engineer in the aeronautics industry, leading to her current position as a project manager with a major aircraft manufacturer. Much like her husband, her job often requires that she travels for meetings. Sometimes abroad, as she's often called upon to meet with customers. Still she makes an effort to keep a close relationship with Jace, and along with Arthur was able to temper his more selfish tendencies in his early life.

History: Jace Rose was born among the majestic mountains and rolling plains of Colorado, specifically Colorado Springs, during a time when his parent's jobs weren't dragging them quite as far from home. Even from early on he was an outgoing, energetic boy, always looking for things to do and friends to play with. He had nary a shy bone in his body, and had no qualms about approaching complete strangers. All for the sake of curiosity and friendliness. Although as a little kid he was somewhat infamous for throwing a fit whenever he didn't get his way. A problem that was exacerbated by his strong dislike for most schoolwork, causing him to get in trouble for not participating in class. However when he wasn't being weighed down by elementary school work, and often even when he was, Jace spent his hours enthusiastically playing and exploring. From this he developed a variety of hobbies, as well as a general willingness to try new things. Most of the time. All in all he had a happy childhood, marred though it was by issues with school, and would eventually develop into a rather optimistic young man.

By the time he'd reached high school, most of Jace's more jarringly selfish tendencies had been quelled by the efforts of his parents. He was now a more well adjusted, if somewhat immature, teenager. Additionally his parent's careers had advanced to a point where they were starting to be around the house less and less. Though his mother and father were initially concerned about leaving their son alone for increasing periods of time, he quickly proved himself as quite amenable to the situation. In fact the now adolescent Jace enjoyed having the house to himself, and had little trouble adjusting. What he did have trouble adjusting to, however, was the way his peers changed around him. Gone were the simple days when he could easily make friends by simply approaching a random group of kids and joining in their games. Now there was an emphasis on chatting, parties, cliques, and even some hierarchy of popularity. It took some adjusting and middle school was rough for him as a result. Starting in 6th and 7th grade he was even bullied for the first time in his life. He'd had it at least partially figured out by the time he hit high school, however.

Jace would only get a couple years in his hometown high school, however, as forces beyond his control exerted their influence over his life. His mother had received a promotion offer that would require her to move to another state. All the way to Oregon. Jace didn't think too highly of this change. He liked Colorado. It was pretty, the people were nice, and it was where all his friends were. There wasn't much he could do about it, however, and sure enough the Rose family moved out not long before Jace was set to start his junior year. It wasn't all bad though. Sure it was a new neighborhood with a new school full of unfamiliar people, but it was also a new neighborhood with a new school full of unfamiliar people. Jace got over his homesickness pretty quick when curiosity took hold. Now he can't help but be excited as the new school year approaches, eager to see what it has in store for him.

Relationships: Jace moved in not long ago, so he hasn't had a chance to form any meaningful relationships. (Unless someone wants to plot otherwise of course~)

Physical Description Once upon a time, Vanessa wasn't quite the pretty girl she's known as today. Up until her last year of middle school, she was actually known for being the opposite. While she was once known for wearing bedazzled clothes from Justice well into her middle school years, she laid it all to rest with the rest of her old self the summer before her freshman year. Now, she'll wear things that accentuate her figure and draw attention to herself. While she'll wear anything trendy, she usually options for softer looking things. She's a fan of light, natural colors and floral prints.

Personality Her personality, just like everything else, was yet another thing she changed in order to fit in. She was a friendly, out-going girl once upon a time. Someone who was down-to-earth and completely herself because, back then, it was easier to not care about what people thought. But after years of being made fun of for who she was, she became desperate to fit in. She's one of those girls who seems nice and has the entire school convinced that she is, but deep down, she's motivated by popularity and appearance alone and will not hesitate to do what she must to fit in. Hobbies The hobby she's most known for is horse-back riding; she participates in many sports on horseback including dressage, show-jumping, and more. She's an attractive blond woman who really only married Walter for his money. Doesn't pay much attention to her husband or her step-children and is having an affair with their gardener; something the Olson family is aware of but refuses to acknowledge.

Paul Olson / 23 / Brother Paul is Vanessa's older brother and a carbon copy of their father when he was young. He lives with his wife and two-year old son in a condo a few miles away from Radcliffe and works at the country club their family owns.

Well-Known Facts She completely reinvented herself the summer before her freshman year, a fact that is generally well-known. She has changed so drastically that some fail to remember who she used to be, however. She's well-known for her (fake) compassion and generosity. She volunteers quite a bit at local senior centers, day-cares, cleaning up parks, etc. A teacher's pet in most of her classes and an absolute suck-up to most adults.

His Father and Mother couldn't control him in the city so they sent him to live with his Uncle in a smaller town. Now he is with his Uncle, Liam Rivers, Blonde graying hair, tall, very handsome for his age.
Liam is the the Machenic of the town and so Chance now works in his shop.
Common knowledge that might come up: Rumours say he steals motors for his Uncle, but none of it has been proven. He's new to town and rides a motorbike. He's a father's worst nightmare for a daughter.
