Humans


Humans are by far the most populous of all the races, occupying the majority spot in every country save for Albia. Similarly to the Jotnar, humans tend to live into their 80s though this varies somewhat from country to country.

Jötnar


The Jotnar (sing. Jotunn) inhabit the Northern peninsula that juts out from the western continent. Known for their great strength, though not for their technological prowess. The Jotnar share similar lifespans with humans, living into their 80s or so.


The Jotnar are the tallest of the races, with their male average height being around 8'0" and the female average height around 7'0". Their skin ranges from blue to light bluish-grey and they also tend to be very well built and thus very strong, the strongest of the races, other than purpose built Dolls that is. They also possess an extreme resistance to the cold, being entirely comfortable in their harsh northern environment. However, they are terrible with the heat, overheating at much lower temperatures than any of the other races.


The Jotnar live in tribes lead by chieftains and often war with rival tribes. They live in established villages, not benefitting from the technology of the southern races. This is due to the fact that in general the Jotnar choose to isolate themselves from the other races and specifically their technology, living a much more primitive lifestyle with an emphasis on tradition. Most of the Jotnar are at the least guarded, and at most fully hostile, towards the other races, preferring to be left alone. However, some Jotnar, especially younger ones, have been growing curious about the world to the south, with some venturing forth to seek their fortunes there.


Dökkalves


The Dokkalves are a race of people who live in subterranean villages and cities. They share the trait of longevity with the alves but to a lesser extent, living to around 150 years or so . As a race they are known for their ingenuity and mechanical adeptness, particularly when it comes to the creation of steam-powered mechanisms and vehicles.


There are two types of Dokkalves, those that come from the southern end of the western continent, and those that come from the southern end of the eastern continent. The western Dokkalves have brown skin (5'4 being the average for females and 5'8" for males) and are slightly taller than their grey-skinned eastern counterparts (5'2" for females and 5'6" for males). The Eastern Dokkalves also tend to be stockier, though neither variant can really be described as being particularly well built.

In the west the Dokkalves organize themselves more loosely, forming several different cities that trade with each other and maintain a sort of mutual defense treaty. However, the occupants of these cities refer to Dokkalves from other cities as foreigners. In the east it is much different, with the Dokkalves there forming a singular community, run by a council of elders. One thing to note is that there are significant tensions between the eastern and western Dokkalves, with each regarding the other as inferior. In general western Dokkalves are more open and accepting with other races, particularly humans, while eastern Dokkalves tend to be more guarded. However, both agree on a general dislike of Alves.


Alves


The Alves are the race that inhabits the island nation of Albia. Known for their longevity, a trait they share with the Dokkalves, they can live into their early 200s. They are also known for their talent in the creation of magic circuits and engines, and for being the only race capable of the creation of clockwork dolls.

The Alves are a tall race, with 6'2" being the female average and 6'5" the male average, and they also tend to have lithe frames. Also, like the Dokkalves, Alves have characteristic pointed ears, though unlike them the Alves have light skin.


The Alves are split into two communities in Albia, the northern and southern Alves. However, there is not nearly as much of a split as between the eastern and western Dokkalves. At most the differences are in lifestyle, with the south being more urban and the north more natural, and there isn't any of the tension as with the Dokkalves. In general, the Alves are a proud race and they keep to themselves most of the time. When they do deal with other races they often act with a sort of vague haughtiness, as if they're looking down on all non-Alves. This is especially apparent with the Dokkalves, whom they view as especially inferior. However, this view has been changing somewhat with the younger generations.


Clockwork Dolls


Clockwork Dolls, or just simply Dolls, are a mechanical race that are given sentience via specialized magical circuits whose construction details are a closely guarded secret of the Alves. Due to the fact that only master Alf craftsmen can produce the necessary circuits, though any craftsmen skilled enough could feasibly create or repair the body, Dolls are very expensive and as such are not commonplace. They tend to be built to do dangerous jobs such as being guardsmen or else as servants. Something to note is that while the Alves can influence a Doll's personality during the production of their circuits they do not have fine-tune control, which means that Dolls can develop idiosyncrasies and personalities of their own. Similarly, Dolls can be influenced to have a predisposition for one or two fields, learning those fields much more quickly than could a member of the other races. However, this comes with the downside that Dolls have an incredibly hard time learning to do things outside of their specializations, meaning they are far less versatile than the other races. The circuits used were invented 12 years before the beginning of the rp and the first Dolls that could fully mimic the races began to appear within the last 3 years.

Dolls come in many shapes and sizes depending on their purpose, from giant mechanical-looking behemoths to appearing almost the same as a human (or any other race). Furthermore, being mechanical they can have various tools/implements built into their bodies, again depending on their purpose. Similarly, physical capabilities vary between Dolls but in general they outmatch most of the races, save for possibly the Jotnar. In general, Dolls are more resistant than the other races to ballistic damage. That said, the circuits that create their consciousness are vulnerable to electricity, overloading and shutting down or breaking at much lower voltages than the other races.


Dolls need not eat or sleep, they instead draw power from a magical core (which can be produced by any craftsman skilled enough) that must be periodically replaced. When this needs to happen depends on the core itself, varying from weekly for cheaper cores, to needing to be replaced only after several years for the more high-end models. Also, being inorganic in nature, Dolls do not heal over time, instead needing to be repaired when broken, though they don't feel pain either.


Valkyries


Valkyries are a winged, female only race that inhabit the mountains in the north of the Western Continent. Their lifespans are roughly the same as those of humans and they mature at a comparative rate. They are known for their intensive militarism, their skill as mercenaries, and their flight capabilities.


Valkyries tend to be on the taller side, standing between 5'10" and 6'2" on average. However, their most distinctive features are their large, feathery wings that sprout from their shoulders, their wingspans generally being 13-17ft across. Other features of the Valkyries include heightened agility and extremely sharp eyesight, like that of predatory birds. In general, Valkyries are fair-haired with light eyes, but those with differing features are not uncommon either.


The Valkyries live in cities high up in the mountains, each ruled by the strongest warrior amongst them, chosen via an annual tournament. However, this isn't to say that that warrior handles all of the administrative tasks and all, rather they serve more as a public figurehead, albeit with actual authority. As a race, the Valkyries value face-to-face combat more than ranged tactics, deeming it more honorable for a warrior to fight as such. Due to this, most Valkyries fight with melee weapons and shields, though a small portion do train to fight with bows and guns. That said, their technology, like that of the Jotnar, lags behind that of the other races, though it should be noted that they posses better technology than the Jotnar and do not actively shun new tech. Due to this militaristic nature, many Valkyries leave their cities once they complete their training and become fully fledged warriors to work as mercenaries for hire, famed for their effectiveness and skill.
