"Growf!"
One of the staple subgenres of science fiction is that of invasion by puppet masters. For this RP our Puppet masters will be similar in biology to the Goa-uld of Stargate SG-1. However, this is to be an “Original” storyline having nothing to do with the show. Once discovered, however, it will be natural for people to call the creatures Goa-uld. The effects the creatures have on their hosts will be very similar.
Our story will be set in the very near future (start date around summer of 2025, a few years from now). It will begin in the wake of the crash of Air Force One, killing Joe Biden just months into his second term. The new president, of course, will be Kamala Harris, the first female US President. This event followed a major earthquake that hit Los Angeles, stronger than the 1906 San Francisco quake.
Note: This does not reflect any political beliefs. Rather it is what I see as the likely outcome based on current events. The investigation of the crash itself will be the introduction of the story. Spoiler alert: Goa’uld were involved.
The Crash
Some facts are a matter of public knowledge. Air Force One was returning from Los Angeles following a visit in the wake of a major earthquake that rocked southern California. It was a massive 8.2. The 1906 earthquake was only 7.9. Naturally a national disaster was declared. The President had wanted to pay his respects to the people and offer his support. The former Vice President had been in the UK on a diplomatic mission.
The crash site is located in southwestern Colorado near the New Mexico border in a fairly remote region of the Rockies. There are no known survivors. The President’s pod never ejected. Rather the aircraft appears to have suffered a catastrophic failure in the fuel system that resulted in an explosion. Cause is TBD.
Theories
Feel free to elaborate, but events like this will always be accompanied by conspiracy theories. Given the nature of this RP we can’t forget the UFO conspiracy folks. Some of the really outlandish theories will point fingers at various political figures as aliens in disguise offing one another.
Puppet Master Technology
Puppet Masters have us beat in technology, but only by a small margin. They did not arrive with super advanced alien technology. Or if they did they either don’t know how to use it; they lost it, or it is extremely limited and so far impossible to reproduce.
Characters
Characters may come from a variety of origins. Secret Service, FBI, CIA, NTSB.
NTSB had operational authority over the crash itself.
CIA was looking for any signs of terrorism in play from foreign sources.
FBI was concerned with domestic terrorism.
There were also reporters. And we should also have a token conspiracy theorist. (But you didn’t get very far with all the government types if you were known for this. You were mostly wrong anyways.)
Scientists would be good too. That, or maybe forensic experts. After all, it wasn’t until we started autopsies that things got interesting.
Investigation results:
There were six missing bodies from the crash. Analysis of the debris indicates that the landing gear was down prior to the explosion. There were signs of gun play all around the President suggesting an assassination. The weapons used belonged to a variety of personnel. Some belonged to missing personnel. One of the missing bodies was the Navigator. There were strong traces of cyanide in the bodies of the pilot and co-pilot.
The President’s body was burned beyond recognition. A thermite charge was used on him.
The autopilot was disengaged and damaged.
The fuel system was not only tampered with. An unknown accelerant was mixed into the fuel.
The President’s escape pod was sabotaged. The chute lines were cut. The ALD was disabled. The ejection system was disabled. Someone really wanted to make sure he didn’t escape this way.
