Psionic Schools

Designations:

Each psion is typically trained and proficient in one school. A small percentage of the psion population (estimated to around 10%) can use more than one schools’ abilities. Approximately 7% of the psion population are “duos” and can use abilities from two different schools. Approximately 2% of the psion population are “trios” and can use abilities from three different schools. “Quads” make up approximately .08% of the psion population. The most rare are “stars” who can utilize powers from all five schools. It is estimated that any given time there are five or less stars alive in the world. Celes and Ceres are the most famous and powerful “stars” in Psydrium’s recorded history, though there is conjecture famous figures may have been “stars” of the past.
In the event a psion is a “duo,” “trio,” “quad,” or “star” they are without exception better at one school than the rest. This is their ‘preferred school’ and what they will identify with in psion society.
Psions of each school have varying amounts of natural talent: however, with enough effort, time, and training even the weakest student can become a master of the most difficult abilities in their school. No amount of training will help them transition to learning another school’s powers, however. If a psion does not have natural ability in a school, they can not be taught even the lowest tier of powers of that school.

School Names:
Because many psions must operate in secrecy when abroad or in mixed company, they have developed their own terminology for the different schools as seen below. Persons capable of teleportation, for example, are called “travelers.” Talking about a traveler in public is certainly less suspicious than discussing a teleporter!

Symbolism:
Before Psydrium existed, there were two organizations formed by Celes and Ceres, the legendary “stars.” Celes founded Daughters of Celes (“DOC”) while Ceres founded the Alliance of Psions & Allies (AOPA). Along with their different ideologies they used different symbols to denote the schools. Celes favored the use of colors and in mixed gatherings, psions would often wear the color of their school. Ceres, however, favored nature and using animal symbols. As a result, both color and animal symbols are used interchangeably and together to help identify the particular school of a psion both within Psydrium’s city walls and abroad.
